Welcome to Great Minds. Today we're going to talk about famous people in history. Confucius lived over 2,000 years ago in China. He was an educator and philosopher. He spent much of his life travelling and meeting different people. He is remembered for his wise sayings. They were written down by his students.
William Shakespeare was born in a small town in England on 23 April 1564. He started writing plays at about 30 years old. During his life, he wrote around 40 plays as well as hundreds of poems. He's one of the most famous writers in the English language. One of his most popular plays is called Hamlet.
Charles Darwin was a famous British biologist and naturalist. He was born on 12 February 1809. He was the founder of the theory of evolution.
In 1859, he published The Origin of Species and put forward the theory of evolution, which was one of the greatest discoveries in natural sciences in the 19th century.
Marie Curie was a famous Polish-French physicist and chemist. In 1903, she won the Nobel Prize in Physics for her research on radioactivity. Later, she won a second Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering the elements of polonium and radium. She was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize twice in the world.
Albert Einstein was born in Germany in 1879, and died in the US in 1955. He is considered to be the greatest scientist of the 20th century. His theories explain the way the universe works. In many photographs, you can see his smiling face. He didn't care much about money and lived a simple life, but made a great contribution to mankind.
