Inner Mongolia shows strong progress this year
Clean Power
Inner Mongolia now uses more wind and solar power. This year, about 300 to 450 new clean power stations were built and put into use. More factories use clean energy now. This helps keep the air clean and gives thousands of people new jobs.
Green Deserts
People are planting trees to stop the desert. This year, about 50 million trees have been planted in Ordos. Now, there are fewer and fewer sandstorms. Some wild animals, like the Mongolian gazelle (羚羊), are coming back. The land has turned greener, and the area is becoming a better home for wildlife.
Culture and Travel
Traditional customs meet new travel. This summer, more people attended the Naadam Festival in different areas in Inner Mongolia. They watched horse races, listened to folk songs, and bought handmade gifts. Many families on the grassland opened their homes to tourists. This brings more money and helps share local culture.
Better Health
Health care for villagers is getting better. This year, about 150 to 250 small hospitals on buses visited villages and towns. Villagers can also see a doctor online. About 6.5 to 7.2 million people got free health checks. This saves time and helps people become healthier and happier.
These are the changes this year. We hope for more good news next year.

Dear Headteacher White,
I’m Jason from Grade Eight. A recent class topic about students’ reading time drew our interest, and we did research in Grade Eight. The results of the research we did led me to think that we should be given more time to read—or at least take part in some reading activities. I am writing this letter respectfully for you to think about it.
The research results are shown in the chart (图表) below.
As we can see in the chart above, the time for students’ reading has become less and less.
It is time to make a change. Could I suggest that we should have more reading time at school to solve the problem? I’m looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
Dear Jason,
Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts about students’ reading time. I admire your passion for this topic.
Reading is really an important part of student life. I promise our school will do research about it. But before that, I need your help. Please think about the questions below.
· Does your research include Grade Seven and Grade Nine students?
· How much time for reading every day do you think is necessary?
· Can students spend more time reading at home?
· Have you got any favourite reading activities in mind already?
· What kind of books are you most interested in?
Feel free to answer this letter if you would like to talk about it further, or if necessary, you are welcome to come to my office for a face-to-face discussion.
Sincerely,
1. What is Jason’s advice?
A. The school should do more research.
B. The school should buy different kinds of books.
C. The school should give students more reading time.
2. Why does Jason show the chart to the headteacher?
A. To make his letter more interesting.
B. To make the headteacher believe what he said.
C. To make the students’ reading activities more colourful.
3. What do you think of the headteacher according to his letter?
A. Funny. B. Brave. C. Open.
4. What may Jason do next?
A. Do further research. B. Talk to his parents. C. Correct his mistakes.
