We all have those moments when bright ideas hit us, but not everyone can develop such moments into the fruits of creative thinking. While we believe creative thinking is the falling apple of Isaac Newton, who was born in 1643, we seldom notice that creative thinking is in fact a process.
Let’s look at what happened in 1666. Sitting in the garden, Newton watched an apple fall from a tree. He began to wonder if the same force that pulled the apple down also kept the moon circling the earth. Newton believed it did. He called it “gravity”.
This story has become one of the most popular examples of “eureka” moments. But when we cheer for the great discovery, the whole process of creative thinking shouldn’t be forgotten. Newton studied mathematics for a long time to have a better understanding of the world. He always enjoyed finding new ways to solve problems.
Newton began to examine “gravity” carefully. He experimented, studied the results, and used what he learned to design new experiments. This process of inquiry (调查) , which began with the falling apple, lasted for many years until he finally published (发表) his groundbreaking work in 1687.
The whole process of creative thinking works the same in our life. In school, we prepare ourselves for the right moment. Once the moment comes, we catch it and then keep on working in the years to come. It takes a lot to get the fruits of creative thinking, but the sweetest fruits will be ready for those who wait the longest.
26.How long did Newton continue to study gravity after the apple fell?
A.For 44 years B.For 33 years C.For 23 years D.For 21 years
27.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The moon. B.The earth. C.The force. D.The apple.

A.I’ve got it B.I give up C.I have no idea D.I believe it
29.What can we learn from Newton’s story?
A.Practice makes perfect. B.Rome wasn’t built in a day.
C.The early bird catches the worm. D.Action speaks louder than words.
30.What is the best title for the text?
A.Tips on Becoming a Scientist B.Creative Thinking: A Long Road
C.Newton’s Apple: A Lucky Moment D.The Importance of Patience in Science
【答案】26.D 27.C 28.A 29.B 30.B

Teachers are often thought to be engineers of the human soul. 36 But there’s one person in China who is called the “teacher of teachers”.
He is the Chinese educator Tao Xingzhi. Born in Anhui Province, China, in 1891, Tao studied at Columbia University, US, in 1914. 37 But when Tao returned to China in 1917 and began his own career as an educator, he did not blindly copy Dewey’s education methods or theories. He encouraged “unity of teaching, learning, and reflective acting”.
38 After doing surveys in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai in 1921, Tao was surprised to learn that over 70 percent of the people in cities were not able to read or write. 39 To deal with the lack of teachers and money, in 1927, Tao set up Xiaozhuang Normal College in the countryside of Nanjing to train teachers and educators, most of whom became teachers at rural schools.
40 He set up Yucai Middle School in Chongqing and offered free education to refugee (难民) children.
Maybe Tao’s motto is the best explanation for his life, “Giving a whole heart, yet taking nothing in return, not even a leaf of grass.”
A.There he studied under John Dewey, a well-known American educator.
B.Even during the war, Tao never forgot his dream.

28.The underlined word “eureka” in paragraph 3 probably means ________.
A.I’ve got it B.I give up C.I have no idea D.I believe it

A.Practice makes perfect. B.Rome wasn’t built in a day.
C.The early bird catches the worm. D.Action speaks louder than words.
30.What is the best title for the text?
A.Tips on Becoming a Scientist B.Creative Thinking: A Long Road
C.Newton’s Apple: A Lucky Moment D.The Importance of Patience in Science
