三、阅读理解(A 课文原文改编;B 社区志愿者时文)
Passage A
At the back of our house, there was a small piece of unused land. Mum said it was a pity to let it go to waste. Since all my brothers and sisters loved eating peanuts, we decided to turn it into a peanut field. We bought seeds, dug up the ground and watered them every single day. After a couple of months, we got a big harvest.
Mum cooked peanuts in different ways and held a small garden party to celebrate. During the party, Father told us the special point of peanuts. Unlike peach trees that show fruit high on branches, peanuts hide all fruit under the earth. You cannot know if it bears fruit until you dig it out from soil. Father told us not to only admire attractive flowers. He expected us to be plain but useful people, not those who only look for others’ praise or attention. His words stay clear in my mind till now.

C. Everyone must plant peanuts at home D. We should buy expensive fruit often
5.What’s the main idea of Passage A?
A. Skills of growing peanuts B. Life lesson from peanuts
C. Introduction of fruit trees D. Ways to hold garden parties

Aunt Li is a community volunteer who has worked in our neighbourhood for over ten years. Every day she visits elderly families to check their physical health. Many old people can’t walk to clinics by themselves, so she takes medicine and medical tools to their houses in her spare time.
She often works extra hours without any pay. When flu comes every winter, she stays late to share healthy living tips with families. She never puts her good deeds online to get likes or public praise. Just like peanuts, she works quietly and brings real help to people around her. She says the greatest satisfaction comes from looking after weak elders, not getting others’ attention.
6. How long has Aunt Li worked as a community volunteer?
A. Six years B. Over ten years C. Sixteen years D. Twenty years
7. What does Aunt Li do for elderly neighbours?
A. Grow peanuts for them B. Check health at home

Information table passage
Peanuts don’t have bright flowers, but they give us tasty nuts and oil. They teach us to live a plain but valuable life. Many volunteers work quietly every day. They never look for public praise. We should never leave unused farmland empty and learn the spirit of peanuts.
Listening passage
Lots of ordinary workers around us have typical peanut-like qualities. They take on hard work day after day and never post their good deeds online to win public praise. Just like peanuts, they don’t have attractive bright flowers to show off, but they create real and lasting value for our whole society. Many people only admire those pretty-looking flowers at first sight and ignore these silent workers around us. The writer tells us teenagers should change this idea. We ought to learn the spirit of quiet devotion from these common people instead of only paying attention to good-looking appearances.

六、范文
Growing peanuts from the text brings me deep and meaningful thinking about life. Peanuts are far more valuable than those bright, fancy roses that only have pretty looks. Roses attract people at first sight but bring little real help, while peanuts hide fruit underground and offer us nuts and cooking oil. Community volunteers around our neighbourhood are just like plain peanuts. They spend their spare time visiting lonely elderly neighbours and never seek online praise. The more we focus on inner value, the less we will care about attractive appearances. I decide to learn from peanuts and these kind volunteers. At school, I will quietly help classmates in need and try to be a useful person instead of caring too much about my looks.
