Last week, I finally managed to ask my parents to buy me a new football shirt for the school match. I was very excited and wore it to the training before the match, but I wished I hadn’t done that! My new shirt was torn (破损的) after the training and only a tailor (裁缝) could help!
As I walked home worriedly, I saw a shop sign: All Kinds of Repairs and Services! I went inside at once. I looked around the shop and saw broken toys, broken chairs…I wondered if I was in the wrong place. Just at that moment, a man with white hair came up to me and said cheerfully, “Welcome! This is a repair shop and I can repair everything!”
“But…what I need is a tailor to deal with my football shirt.”
“You’ve come to the right place. I’ve been waiting a long, long time to repair a football shirt.”
“Really?” I held the shirt in my hands.
To my surprise, he took the shirt from me, put on glasses and sat down on the sofa with my shirt in his hands. “I guess you are a striker (前锋) ,” he smiled warmly. How could he know? The man gave me a wink (眨眼) and said calmly, “See that picture on the wall? That was me 30 years ago.”
I couldn’t believe my eyes! He was Orhan, the famous footballer who was on the city team years ago! I told him I was playing for the school team and I had been his fan for years. I told him everything, my dream, my practice and even my dad’s words. “Dad thinks I should be an engineer or a doctor.” I lowered my head.
“Follow your dream, choose a job you love and carry on.” The man smiled at me with his blue eyes. He patted (轻拍) me on the shoulder and put the shirt he had repaired in my bag.
Today I have become a footballer and I still keep that shirt in my closet.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Most of us have heard this old saying and followed it to keep healthy. But recently, a new study has told us whether there’s any truth in this old saying.
A team of researchers led by Matthew Davis of the University of Michigan School of Nursing in the US asked 8,399 people to answer questions about diet and health. A total of 753 were apple eaters. The other 7,646 were non-apple eaters.
When both groups answered questions on trips to the doctor and trips to the pharmacy (药店) per year, the apple eaters were found to be 27 percent less likely to visit the pharmacist for drugs.
However, when regarding other factors that can influence the frequency (频率) of medical visits, such as weight, race, education and health insurance (健康保险) , the difference disappeared. And the researchers found daily apple eaters were just as likely as non-apple eaters to go to the doctor. In other words, an apple a day might keep the pharmacist away.
In any case, Davis said to USA Today, nothing in the study suggests eating apples is not a healthy habit. It’s not clear if people who go to the doctor less often are healthier, he said. Doctors generally agree that apples can be a good food choice. They are rich in vitamin C and also contain small amounts of vitamin A, calcium (钙) and iron.
However, “One apple isn’t going to be enough to make a difference unless it’s part of a healthy food pattern,” said Steven Zeisel, from the University of North Carolina’s Nutrition Research Institute, to NBC News.
The old saying is thought to come from Wales in the 1800s. Apples, which have a long shelf life (保质期) , were likely one of the few fruits that were available throughout the year, according to NBC News.
11. What percentage of the participants (参与者) are apple eaters?
A. About 9 percent. B. About 27 percent.
C. About 50 percent. D. About 91 percent.
12. What does the underlined word “factors” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Numbers that divide into other numbers.
B. Amounts which increase or decrease by.
C. Ways which help you do your job.
D. Things that cause something.
13. According to the new study, if you eat an apple a day, ________
A. you are unlikely to get ill
B. it makes no big difference to your health
C. you are much healthier than non-apple eaters
D. you weigh less than non-apple eaters
14. According to NBC News, the old saying may come from the fact that ________.
A. apples are rich in vitamin C
B. apples contain a lot of calcium
C. apples can be stored throughout the year
D. apples play a big part in a healthy food pattern
15. What can we infer (推断) from the story?
A. People with a higher education are less likely to eat apples.
B. An apple a day is not enough to make people much healthier.
C. Non-apple eaters are healthier than others.
D. Old sayings are often the money-making traps (陷阱) of big companies.

In my opinion, the wheel is the most important thing that human beings have ever invented. It might seem strange to say that something so simple-looking and so common could be so important. ____16____
Firstly, wheels influence almost every part of our lives. Wheels are used, for example, in clocks, machines and cars. If you visit just one factory, you will see how important wheels are. ____17____

Thirdly, our world would be completely different if we did not have the wheel for transport. Before the wheel was invented, people used to have to travel on foot or by riding an animal. They didn’t know where to put their heavy bags. ____19____ That is what we would be doing now if we did not have the wheel. Everything would take longer to do.
We would be back to the Stone Age if the clever ancient people had not invented the wheel. Our modern world would simply be impossible. ____20____
根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项。
A. It took long to finish their journeys.
B. You will see wheels on almost every machine.
C. The wheel is surely the most important invention of all time.

One thing I keep doing every day
Good morning, everyone!
I am very happy to be here to make a speech today. The topic of my speech is one thing I keep doing every day.
As we know, what we keep doing every day is very important for us to achieve our goals. That’s why I keep reading every day no matter how busy I am. I usually spend about one hour a day reading my favorite books and I often share what I read with my friends. Honestly speaking, reading not only brings me knowledge, but also teaches me how to get on well with others and how to be a better person.
Keeping reading helps me open up my eyes to the outside world. The more I read, the wiser I will be.
That’s all. Thank you!
