一、阅读理解
Passage 1
The Hidden Cost of Fast Fashion
When you buy a cheap T-shirt for just $5,you might feel you've got a bargain. However, the tue cost of
that shirt extends far beyond the price tag.The fashion industry is responsible for approximately 10%of
global carbon emissions-more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined.Yet most
consumers remain unaware of the environmental devastation caused by their shopping habits
Fast fashion refers to the rapid production of cheap, trendy clothing that mimics popular styles from
luxury brands. These garments are designed to be worn only a few times before being discarded. The
business model relies on convincing consumers that clothes are disposable, encouraging them to buy
more and more.In fact, the average person today buys 60%more clothing than they did 15 years ago,but
keeps each item for only half as long.
The environmental impact is staggering. To produce a single cotton shit requires approximately 2,700
liters of water-enough for one person to drink for two and a half years. Moreover, the dyeing process
releases toxic chemicals into rivers, poisoning water sources and damaging ecosystems in developing
countries where most garment factories are located. In regions like Bangladesh and Cambodia, entire
communities have suffered from contaminated drinking water as a direct result of textile production.
But the problems don't end with production. When clothes are thrown away,85%of them end up in
landfills or are incinerated.Synthetic fabrics like polyester can take hundreds of years to decompose,
releasing microplastics into the soil and oceans. The situation has become so severe that researchers have
found microplastic fibres in 83%of tap water samples worldwide.
Fortunately,a growing movement is challenging the fast fashion model.Organizations like Fashion
Revolution are campaigning for greater transparency in the industry.Their "Who Made My Clothes?"
campaign encourages consumers to ask brands about their supply chains.Meanwhile, sustainable fashion
brands are emerging, using organic materials and ethical production methods. Some companies have
introduced take-back programs, where old clothes are collected and recycled into new garments
Individual actions matter too.Choosing quality over quantity, repairing clothes instead of throwing them
away, and buying second-hand are all ways to reduce your fashion footprint. As consumers,we hold
significant power.Every purchase is a vote for the kind of world we want to live in.By making conscious
choices,we can push the industry toward a more sustainable future.
()1.What does the author mainly want to tell us in the passage?
A.Fast fashion is affordable but harms the environment.

()3.The underlined word "incinerated"(paragraph 4)most probably means
A.reused for other purposes
B.buried deep underground
C.bumned to destroy waste
D.broken down by natural processes
()4.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Individual consumers have limited influence on the fashion industry.
B.Sustainable fashion brands are not yet commercially successful.
C.Changing shopping habits can contribute to environmental protection.
D.The best solution is to stop the fast fashion industry completely.
()5.What is the author's attitude toward the future of the fashion industry?
A.Optimistic but cautious.

Passage 2
Urban Green Spaces:More Than Just Pretty Views
Cities around the world are becoming increasingly crowded, with concrete and asphalt replacing natural
landscapes. However,a quiet revolution is taking place as urban planners and environmentalists push for
the creation and preservation ofgreen spaces within city limits. These areas-ranging from large parks to
small community gardens-offer benefits that go far beyond their aesthetic appeal.
Research has consistently shown that access to green spaces improves both physical and mental health.A
landmark study published in The Lancet followed 100,000 people over five years and found that those
living within 300 meters of a park or green area reported significantly lower levels of stress and anxiety.
The calming effect of nature, even in small doses, appears to reduce cortisol levels and lower blood
pressure.Children who regularly play in green environments also show improved concentration and
creativity compared to those who spend most of their time indoors.
Beyond individual health, urban green spaces play a crucial role in combating climate change.Trees
absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, acting as natural air filters.A single mature tree can absorb up
to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.In cities notorious for poor air quality, such as Beijing and Delhi,
expanding green cover has become a key strategy for reducing pollution.Additionally, green roofs and
walls help regulate building temperatures, reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling by up to
25%.
Biodiversity is another critical benefit.Urban green spaces serve as habitats for birds, insects, and small
mammals, creating ecological coridors that connect fragmented natural areas. The High Line in New
York City,a park built on an abandoned railway track, now supports over 500 species of plants and
attracts dozens of bird species.Such projects demonstrate that even small green spaces can significantly
contibute to urban biodiversity.
However, creating effective green spaces requires careful planning.Simply planting grass and trees is not
enough.Successful urban green spaces must be designed with community needs in mind, including safe
walking paths, seating areas, and spaces for social interaction. They must also be accessible to all
residents, regardless of income or neighborhood.Studies show that low-income communities often have
less access to green spaces,a problem known as "green gentrification."
Despite these challenges, the benefits of urban green spaces are undeniable.Cities like Singapore have
integrated greenery into their urban fabric so successfully that they are now models for sustainable urban
development. As more people move to cities, investing in green infrastructure is not just an option-it is a
necessity for creating livable, healthy, and resilient urban environments.
()1.What is the main pupose of the passage?
A.To criticize cities for their lack of green spaces.
B.To introduce the multiple benefits of urban green spaces.
C.To compare different approaches to urban planning.
D.To discuss the challenges of building parks in cities.
()2.According to the research mentioned in paragraph 2,what effect do green spaces have on
children?
A.They become more physically active.
B.They have reduced levels of creativity.
C.They show better focus and imagination
D.They develop stronger social skills.
()3.How do green roofs and walls help the environment?
A.By providing habitats for rare animals.
B.By reducing the energy needed for temperature control.
C.By absorbing harmful chemicals from the soil.
D.By increasing the amount of rainfall in cities.
()4.What is the problem of "green gentrification"mentioned in paragraph 5?
A.Green spaces are too expensive for most cities to build.
B.Rich neighborhoods get more green spaces than poor ones.
C.Green spaces attract too many tourists to residential areas.
D.Parks are often destroyed to make way for new buildings.
()5.What can we leam from Singapore's example?
A.Building green spaces requires huge government funding.
B.It is possible to integrate nature successfully into a city.
C.Small parks are more effective than large ones in cities.
D.Developing countries cannot afford green infrastructure.

三、阅读短文回答问题
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。请将答案写在横线上。
From Small Seeds Come Big Changes
In the city of Freiburg,Germany,a remarkable transformation has taken place over the past three decades.
What was once a polluted industrial area has become one of the world's most sustainable neighborhoods:
Vauban. This community of about 5,500 people was built on the principles of green living, and its success
offers valuable lessons for cities everywhere.
The story of Vauban began in the 1990s when the city government decided to redevelop a former French
military base.Instead of following traditional urban planning, officials invited residents to participate in
the design process. The result was a neighborhood where cars are largely unnecessary. Most streets are
car-free,and parking is limited to large garages at the edge of the community.Instead of roads, there are
wide pathways for walking and cycling.Children can play safely in the streets, and residents socialize in
public squares.
Energy efficiency is at the heart of Vauban's design. All buildings are constructed to high environmental
standards,using thick insulation,triple-glazed windows,and solar panels.Many homes produce more
energy than they consume, feeding excess electricity back into the grid. The neighborhood's district
heating system uses renewable energy sources, including solar power and biomass.Residents'energy
bills are remarkably low-often less than half of what people pay in conventional neighborhoods
Beyond infrastructure,Vauban has cultivated a strong sense of community.Shared spaces include
community gardens, playgrounds, and meeting rooms.A car-sharing program reduces the need for private
vehicles.Residents organize events together, from street parties to farmers'markets. This social cohesion
is not accidental;,it is the result of deliberate design choices that encourage interaction and cooperation.
However,Vauban is not without its challenges. The high construction standards meant that initial housing
costs were relatively high, though energy savings have offset this over time. Some critics argue that the
model is difficult to replicate on a large scale, especially in existing cities where infrastructure is already
built.Nevertheless,Vauban demonstrates that sustainable urban living is possible when communities and
governments work together. As climate change accelerates, such experiments become not just inspiring
but essential.
1.What is special about transportation in the Vauban neighborhood?
2.How do houses in Vauban achieve energy efficiency?(List two measures mentioned)
3.What social benefits does the Vauban community provide for its residents?
4.According to the passage, what are the limitations or challenges of the Vauban model?
5.What lesson can other cities leam from Vauban's experience?

Dear teachers and fellow students
Our school is launching a "Green Campus"campaign.
Currently,we face serious problems like wasting water and electricity, littering, and excessive use of
disposable items. These behaviors harm our environment and waste valuable resources.
To build a greener campus,I propose the following:First, turn off lights and taps when not in use.
Second, sort waste properly and recycle paper, plastic, and bottles.Third, bring reusable water bottles
and lunch boxes instead of using disposable ones.Fourth, plant more trees and flowers around campus
to create a pleasant environment.
Every small action counts.Don't bother thinking your effort is too small to make a difference.Just as
roots and shoots grow slowly but eventually change the landscape, our collective actions will transform
our school.
Let's take action now for a greener future!
Yours sincerely,
