Can You Cook?
(喀什三模改编)Tom can, and his mum's very happy with him. Tom is like any other teenager. He goes to school, does his homework, meets his friends and enjoys doing sport. But between 5:30 and 6:30 from Monday to Friday, Tom does something different. He cooks dinner for all the family—his mum, dad, younger brother Joe and older sister Emma.
Tom's mum says, “I think it's important for teenagers to learn how to cook. Maths and English are important, of course, but they need other skills to help them to survive too. First I taught Tom how to cook easy meals like pizza or egg and chips. Then he started using recipes in my cooking books. Yesterday he made vegetable soup. It was very good!”
Tom says, “I love cooking and I think I'm really good at it. None of my friends can cook. I don't know why. It isn't difficult and it's great fun!”
In the past, Tom didn't help out at home, but today his mum is very pleased with him. He also finds his own purpose of life.
根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)、误(F)。
( )1.Tom does one thing that teenagers don't normally do.
( )2.Tom learned all the meals by himself.
( )3.Tom learned some recipes from his grandmother.
( )4.Tom thinks he does well in cooking.
( )5.Tom's mum thinks learning to cook is good for teenagers.

[热爱劳动](荆州期末改编)One evening last summer, when I asked my 14yearold son, Jack, to help with dinner, his question shocked me. “What is a colander(漏勺)?” he asked.
Nobody else could cook for the family except my own! But that night, as I explained that a colander is the thing with holes in it, I knew what else I should teach Jack. As a mother, while I cared about my son's grades and characters, I always forgot that I should also raise someone's future roommate, boyfriend, husband, or father. I just raised a boy who would always ask his mother, “What's for dinner?” So I came up with a plan—I would open a housework course for Jack. I was glad to find that he didn't say no.
For two hours, three days a week, Jack was all mine. One day, as his tomato sauce reduced on the stove, he washed and seasoned a chicken for roasting. Then he rolled out the piecrust(馅饼皮)and filled it with apples, all while listening to my explanation on the importance of preheating an oven. I knew that he would like to play basketball, but he had to mend socks with his mother—he tried to stop the sewing lessons, but I refused him.
“I appreciate what you do as a mum,” he told me one day.
Now, not only can he make his own dinner, but also he can make a big meal for his family. That's what I call a man. I'm glad that I prepared a great gift for my future daughterinlaw(儿媳).
