二、阅读理解(共20题,每题2.5分,共50分)
A
Last summer, Tom’s hometown in southern China faced a terrible flood. Heavy rain fell for seven days straight, and the river near the village rose quickly. Soon, water started to enter people’s houses. Tom was 14 years old at that time, and he lived with his parents and little sister, Lily.
One evening, the water became higher and higher. Their house was on the first floor, so the living room was soon under water. Tom’s dad told them to pack some clothes and food, then go to the roof. “Stay here and don’t move,” he said. “I’ll go to help the neighbors.” Tom’s mom held Lily tightly, and Tom felt a little scared, but he knew he had to be brave.
On the roof, they could see many houses were flooded. Some people were shouting for help. Tom remembered what his teacher taught at school: when a flood happens, stay calm and use things that float. He saw a big wooden box in the yard. It was floating on the water. “Mom, let’s take that box!” Tom said. He climbed down carefully with a rope and pulled the box to the house.
Just then, they heard a cry from the next door. It was Mrs. Lee, an old woman who lived alone. Her roof was lower, and water was almost touching it. Tom’s mom wanted to help, but she couldn’t leave Lily. Tom said, “I’ll go, Mom. I’m strong enough.” He took the rope, tied it around his waist, and swam to Mrs. Lee’s house. The water was fast, but he reached her safely. He helped Mrs. Lee climb into the wooden box, then pulled her back to his roof.
After a few hours, the rescue team came by boat. They took everyone to a safe place. Everyone praised Tom for being brave. Tom said, “I just did what I should do. My teacher taught us to help others when disaster strikes.” This experience taught Tom that staying calm and helping each other can get through difficult times.

Skycar
Traffic Jams-A Problem
Traffic jams can happen anywhere. People can get very frustrated if they are stuck in a traffic jam.
If a person is driving a skycar, they wouldn’t have to worry about traffic jams. Drivers could just move over to the side of the road, get their car ready and zoom into the sky. The traffic jam would be far below them.
Inventing a Flying Car
For many years, people have tried to invent a car that could fly. Some were too dangerous. Some were too expensive, and others just did not work.
But one day, an inventor named Gilo Cardozo put a motor onto a sand buggy. The motor had a big propeller and a sail. As Gilo zoomed over the ground, the buggy went up into the air. Gilo had turned the sand buggy into a skycar.
The Skycar
Gilo’s flying car is called a skycar. It has a racing bike engine. The engine moves the skycar along when it is on the ground. The engine uses fuel made from plants. When the car is flying, a parasail helps to move it along. As the car speeds over the ground, the parasail fills up with air.
If the parasail gets damaged or collapses, the skycar uses a parachute. The parachute will unfold so that the skycar can glide safely back to the ground.
Testing the Skycar
The skycar idea couldn’t be sold until it was tested.
People had to see if it was really safe. They had to see if it could fly long distances as well. So Gilo Cardozo and his team went on a long journey to Timbuktu. This was a dangerous journey. They had to cross the sea and travel over a desert. It was hot and dusty in the desert.
They were a long way from anywhere.
A Successful Journey
The most dangerous part of the journey was crossing the sea. The strong winds made the skycar swing around but no one was hurt.
Some people thought that the trip would fail. It didn’t. The skycar was a success. It could drive on motorways. It could go over sand dunes and rocky ground. And, it could fly safely a long way, too.
A Future for Skycars
Skycars aren’t used yet to fly in and out of cities. They are noisy and they need space to take off. Skycars would be useful in many ways. They are easier to fly than a helicopter and not as expensive.
They could get to places where helicopters and other vehicles couldn’t.
Someday soon, skycars could be zooming around in the sky like giant birds.
29. What problem can Skycar help people avoid?
A. Dirty fuel pollution. B. Traffic jams.
C. High travel costs. D. Lack of parachutes.
30. Who tested the Skycar by traveling to Timbuktu?
A. Gilo Cardozo and his team. B. Tom and his dad.
C. Helicopter pilots. D. Car factory workers.
31. What can Skycar do? (Which of the following combinations is correct?)
① Drive on motorways. ② Fly long distances safely.
③ Swim in the sea. ④ Run on train tracks.
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ③④ D. ①④
32. What is the Skycar’s engine fuel made from?
A. Animals. B. Plants. C. Coal. D. Wind.
33. What is true about Skycars according to the text?
A. They are already used in cities. B. They are quieter than helicopters.
C. They can reach places some vehicles can’t. D. They don’t need a parachute for safety.

What will our life be like in 50 years? No one knows the answer exactly, but we are sure that it will be very different from the life today. My brother Jill White makes some predictions. Here are some of his ideas.
First, people will have less work to do, and robots will do most work. People will use robots to make cars, do the housework, look after sick people and teach students. People will spend most of their time doing sports and going on vacations. So people will become stronger and healthier, and they will live to be about 200 years old.
Second, cars will become very small and computers will control their speed. So there will be fewer accidents on the road. Planes will be very popular, and most people would like to take them to go on a vacation.
Third, people will be able to live in the sea, on the Moon or on Mars. The Earth won’t be crowded or noisy. So there will be much space for people to plant trees. There will be less pollution, and the air will become much fresher.
Finally, water shortage will become one of the most serious problems. If people don’t save water now, there will be water wars in 50 years.
34. Jill White thinks that in 50 years robots will help to do the following things EXCEPT ________.
A. driving cars B. teaching students
C. doing the housework D. looking after sick people
35. What will most people go on a vacation in 50 years according to the passage?
A. By car. B. By plane. C. By train. D. By bike.
36. What can we know from the passage?
A. People won’t need to work in 50 years.
B. Every family will have a car in 50 years.
C. Computers will control the cars’ speed in 50 years.
D. The earth will become crowded and noisy in 50 years.
37. What’s the passage mainly about?
A. The robots in 50 years. B. The life in 50 years.
C. The schools in 50 years. D. The cars in 50 years.
38. Which of the following is the structure of the passage?
A. ①②③④/⑤ B. ①/②③④/⑤ C. ①②/③④/⑤ D. ①/②③④⑤
D
Our school library is a quiet and cozy place for us to read and study. It has thousands of books, and we all love going there. But to make sure everyone can enjoy the library, there are some simple rules. Following these rules helps us have a good experience and respect other readers.
The first rule is “Keep quiet”. When you enter the library, you must speak in a low voice. You can’t run, shout, or laugh loudly. Last term, my classmate Tom forgot this rule. He was talking with his friend loudly about a football game. The librarian came over and reminded them. “Many students are studying here. Please keep quiet,” she said. Tom apologized and spoke softly after that. Since then, he always remembers to keep the library quiet.
Another rule is “Take care of the books”. You can’t write on the pages, tear the books, or fold the corners. Once, I saw a student drawing pictures on a storybook. I told her it was against the rules. “If everyone writes on the books, they will be damaged and no one can read them again,” I said. She felt sorry and stopped. The librarian also told us to put books back in the right place after reading. This way, other students can find the books easily.
There’s also a rule about borrowing books: you can borrow up to 3 books at a time, and keep them for two weeks. If you need more time, you have to renew them. My friend Lucy once kept a book for three weeks without renewing it. She had to pay a small fine. Now she always sets a reminder on her phone to return books on time.
The library rules are not strict, but they are very important. They help keep the library a good place for reading and studying. When everyone plays by the rules, we can all make the most of the library’s resources. I think following rules in public places is a sign of good manners. It shows we care about others and the things around us.
39. What is the first rule of the school library?
A. Take care of the books. B. Keep quiet.
C. Borrow no more than 3 books. D. Return books on time.
40. Why did the librarian remind Tom?
A. He tore a library book. B. He spoke loudly in the library.
C. He forgot to return a book. D. He drew pictures on a book.
41. What should students do after reading library books?
A. Take them home. B. Hide them in the library.
C. Put them back in the right place. D. Give them to the librarian.
42. What happened to Lucy when she kept a book too long?
A. She couldn’t borrow books again. B. She had to pay a small fine.
C. The librarian took her book away. D. Her teacher criticized her.
43. What does the writer think of following public rules?
A. It’s a sign of good manners. B. It’s too strict and boring.
C. It’s only for young children. D. It’s not important for students.

Journey of Growth: From a Shy Girl to a Confident Traveler
Luna used to be an extremely shy girl. She was afraid to speak in class or make new friends, and even refused to join school activities. Her parents worried about her, so they planned a two-week trip to Yunnan during the summer vacation, hoping it would help her open up.
During the trip, Luna met a group of friendly local kids. They taught her to pick tea leaves and share folk stories. At first, Luna stayed quiet, but their warmth made her feel safe. She started to reply with simple words, then gradually shared her own stories about city life. When they visited a minority village, the kids invited Luna to dance with them. To her surprise, she said “yes” without hesitation.
By the end of the trip, Luna had changed a lot. She became more confident and started to actively talk to people. Back at school, she joined the school’s culture club and even gave a speech about her Yunnan travel experience. Luna says, “Travel isn’t just about seeing beautiful places—it’s about meeting new people and finding a better version of yourself.”

Sam’s Story
Sam’s Bones
Bones are light but strong. They hold a person up and help the person to move. But Sam’s bones don’t do this for him. Sam was born with brittle bone disease. He has never walked. Most people don’t have bones that break very easily. Sometimes bones break when people fall or crash into something.
Sam’s bones are so fragile, that they can break if he just coughs or sneezes.
Learning About Sam
When Sam was young, he was always breaking bones. If he got a fright, he could break some bones or crack a rib. He never liked fireworks. A sudden loud bang would scare him so much that he could break some bones. Sam’s family had to learn how fragile he was. When he was a baby, it was very difficult for them. If he was put down to sleep the wrong way, he could easily break an arm or a leg.
Not Growing, Never Walking
No one knew much about what would happen to Sam. His friends grew taller, but he didn’t. Sam didn’t let how he looked worry him. “How we look on the outside,” he said, “is only a small part of who we are.”
Sam wanted to do everything that his friends did. Doctors put metal pins in his legs to make them stronger, but the pins didn’t help him walk. So Sam needed wheelchairs.
Sam’s Wheelchairs
Sam had wheelchairs to take him to different places. He had a small, folding wheelchair when he went flying in a two-seater plane. He had some wheelchairs for going over sand and others that would take him over muddy, rocky places.
One day, Sam’s wheelchair got stuck in some mud.
There was no one around to help him, so he had to crawl home on his stomach.
Sam’s Idea
Sam has been to many places in the world. He has been down rivers and in rainforests. If he couldn’t get somewhere in his chair, people carried him. One day, when Sam was in the mountains, his wheelchair broke. He knew a lot about chairs, but he couldn’t fix this one. Then, he had an idea. He would invent a new and different wheelchair.
A Big Message
So Sam invented a chair that he can do everything in. Now, people all over the world are using his chair. Sam will always be small.
He will never be able to walk. But he says, “There is always a way to do everything. It may not be the way most people do things. It may take a while to work it out, but there is always a way.”
This is just a little of Sam’s story with a big message.
64. What makes Sam’s bones different from most people’s?
