Governments around the world are pushing for an end to plastic straws (吸管) and bags. More and more businesses are changing to paper products. Using paper is considered to be better than plastic. However, it is harmful to the environment, too.
Firstly, paper bags and straws are made from trees. Trees, as you know, are good for the environment. They can slow down climate change. An increase in the use of paper bags can cause more deforestation (毁林).
Secondly, the production of paper things requires more energy and water. About 10 percent more energy and four times as much water is used to produce a paper bag than a plastic one. You might say that we can use recycled paper to save that energy and water. This seems to be a good idea. However, it takes even more energy and water to go through the recycling process (过程) than to make a paper bag. Products made from recycled paper are also often short-lived.
Furthermore, paper products are heavier than plastic ones. That means they require more fuel to transport. Seven trucks are needed to transport two million paper bags, while only one truck is needed to transport the same number of plastic bags. The increased weight also leads to a larger amount of waste once the bags are thrown away.
Paper products are actually a lose-lose for both the environment and businesses. They are more expensive than plastic products. A paper straw costs about 5 to 12 cents, while a plastic one usually costs only about 2 cents.
The most environment-friendly way is to avoid single-use things altogether. Products like glass water bottles and steel straws can be used over and over again. They are much better than either paper products or plastic products. By increasing the use of these items, you can greatly reduce your throwaway waste and truly make our earth a greener place!
30. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph I refer to?
A. using plastic straws. B. using plastic bags. C. using paper products. D. using single-use things.
31. What does the writer think of the recycled paper?
A. It saves energy and water. B. It seems not to be a good idea.
C. It is better than single-use paper. D. It’s easy to make by recycling process.
32. What is the writer’s main purpose of writing this passage?
A. To introduce the disadvantages of paper products.
B. To call on using products in an environment-friendly way.
C. To compare paper products with plastic products.
D. To explain why paper products are bad for the environment.
33. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
34. What’s the best title for the passage?
A. A greener earth B. Saving energy and water
C. Recycled paper products D. Are paper products better than plastic ones?

The Chinese-made aircraft (国产飞机) are playing an important role in protecting the country’s green mountains. Many models of newly developed large unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs,无人机) are showing their ability to protect the environment. In recent years, they have been used to put out forest fires and do other dangerous tasks (任务).
In mid-March 2024, Yajiang County in Sichuan Province faced a challenging spring when a serious forest fire happened. However, the situation changed quickly as the new aircraft were used to support firefighting (消防). The aircraft played a key role in finding the cause of the fire and understanding its size. The UAVs provided real-time heat pictures and maps, helping to plan the firefighting efforts. At the same time, the fixed-wing (固定翼) aircraft dropped water on certain areas. It stopped the fire and saved more of the forest. This was the first time that we used target UAVs to carry out some tasks, like putting out forest fires. The move showed the advantages of new aircraft and provided a new way to stay away from disasters (灾害).
These new aircraft were also used for other tasks. MA-60 aircraft have been used not only for firefighting, but also for spring drought (干旱). In the spring of 2024, they increased the rounds of rainfall (降雨轮次) in Shaanxi Province. They have also played a key role in facing the challenges of the weather.
Clear waters and green mountains are not only natural wealth but also social wealth. As the technology improves, more Chinese-made aircraft will be developed in the future. They will reduce the influence of natural disasters on the country and protect people’s lives and property.

①forest fires ②technology ③spring drought ④social wealth

A. They provided real-time heat pictures and maps.
B. They sent firefighters (消防员) to the place of the fire.
C. They acted as communication tools among firefighters.
D. They watered the whole place to stop the fire from spreading.
37. How does the writer support (支持) his idea in Paragraph 3?
A. By listing numbers. B. By comparing facts.
C. By giving an example. D. By reporting results.
38. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the passage?
A. To show some models of newly developed large UAVs.
B. To introduce the achievements in our science and technology.
C. To explain how forest fires can be put out with the help of the UAVs.
D. To tell the role of the Chinese-made aircraft in environmental protection.

下文“So I took out the watch and set up a new schedule on it”,应选用watch,后文多次出现watch指代这份礼物,符合上下文物品线索。
后半句“learn to get along with it”(与它相处),拟人化表述,应选用friend, time is your friend“时间是你的朋友”,贴合“相处”的拟人语境。
“It broke big tasks into…”
前文手表记录睡眠,句子“Don’t be a night owl”是手表的提醒内容。应选用reminded,remind sb. to do sth.
pointed to“指向”、knocked down“撞倒”、waited for“等待”不符合动作逻辑。
后半句“planning and taking over chores for us”,有人认为科技包办一切,让人变懒惰;后文转折说手表督促自己勤奋。

C 31. B 32. B 33. A 34. D
第一段提到“More and more businesses are changing to paper products. Using paper is considered to be better than plastic. However, it is harmful to the environment, too.”,这里的“it”指代前文提到的“using paper products”,即使用纸制品。
第三段提到“You might say that we can use recycled paper to save that energy and water. This seems to be a good idea. However, it takes even more energy and water to go through the recycling process...”,作者认为回收纸看似好,但实际上消耗更多能源和水,因此“seems not to be a good idea”符合文意。
C
