(呼吁报名) The English Club 1 Eddie valued his family’s accordion (手风琴)—a treasure passed down from his grandfather to his father, representing his Mexican-American family’s Tejano music tradition. Raised in San Antonio neighborhood filled with Tejano rhythms, Eddie learned the instrument from his father and formed the band Las Estrellas (“The Stars”) with childhood friends: Luis on drums and Ruben on guitar. 2 Each day, Eddie hurried to Luis’s house for practice, struggling with the heavy accordion case while worrying about Ruben. Though a gifted guitarist who picked up songs quickly and loved playing with the band, Ruben hated practicing alone. He was always late, and his lack of solo (单独的) practice led to constant mistakes—a growing problem for the trio (三重奏). 3 Their lives changed when Luis handed Eddie an envelope from the Tejano Festival: an invitation to perform in just two months. The boys celebrated wildly, but Eddie’s joy was mixed with anxiety, hoping the opportunity would motivate Ruben to practice. That night, Eddie shared the news with his family. His father, a former festival winner, presented atrophy (奖杯) with “First Place” written on it and encouraged him, “You belong there and will shine.” Eddie admitted his worry about Ruben, who was too talented and dear a friend to replace. His father advised, “Find out why he won’t practice alone and help him.” 4 At their next practice, Ruben messed up the festival song at the very beginning. He claimed sore fingers from building a hut (简陋的小屋), but Luis accused him of skipping practice. Ruben got annoyed, and Eddie was angry. Following his father’s advice, Eddie asked Ruben why he didn’t play at home as he should. Ruben admitted, “My guitar sounds lonely alone, and I can’t focus.” 5 Upon learning where Ruben’s problem lay, Eddie decided to take immediate action to make practice fun for Ruben. On the way to Luis’s, Eddie came up with a plan: practice together at Ruben’s house daily. Luis agreed and they ordered Ruben’s favorite pizza for a surprise. With pizza in hand, Eddie and Luis arrived at Ruben’s door. (1) Ruben的反应; (2) 三人一起练琴的过程; (3) Ruben的转变。  Finally the big day came. (1)音乐节演出当天的场景,乐队的表现; (2)最终的结果 (3)主旨。 With pizza in hand, Eddie and Luis arrived at Ruben’s door. Ruben was astonished to see them, his anger melting away at the sight of the pizza and their warm smiles. (彼此见面的反应) They set up their instruments in Ruben’s living room, and the sound of accordion, drums and guitar blending together filled the house. For the first time, Ruben played without hesitation, his fingers dancing lightly on the guitar strings. (练习场景) They laughed and corrected each other’s mistakes, turning practice into a joyful gathering, and Ruben finally found the focus he’d been missing. (Ruben的转变) With pizza in hand, Eddie and Luis arrived at Ruben’s door. Upon seeing his friends with pizza, Ruben could hardly contain his excitement and welcomed them in. After sharing the pizza together, they took out their instruments—the accordion, the drum and the guitar—and began practicing in the living room. At first, Ruben struggled to stay in tune with (合拍) his partners. Yet with Eddie’s heartfelt encouragement, he gradually lost himself in their trio performance. Days turned into weeks. To the three boys’ delight, their band kept improving steadily.  Finally the big day came. Dressed neatly, the trio stepped onto the festival stage, with Eddie holding his family’s accordion tightly. As the first note of their Tejano song rang out, the audience fell silent. Ruben played his solo flawlessly, his guitar no longer lonely but full of passion, matching Eddie’s accordion and Luis’s drums perfectly. (表演场景) When the song ended, cheers and applause filled the venue. They didn’t win first place, but Eddie knew they had achieved something more—they’d kept their friendship and their family’s music tradition alive. (照应前文) The loneliest guitar note had found its chorus (合奏), and together, they’d turned fear into a song that would echo long after the stage lights faded. Ruben no longer saw his guitar as a lonely instrument, but as a bridge connecting him to the two people who’d never let him play alone. To play together is to shine together, and that’s the truest kind of victory. Beaming with pride, he realized true success wasn’t a trophy, but the bond they’d forged together. His father’s words echoed in his mind: “You belong here, and you will shine.” With pizza in hand, Eddie and Luis arrived at Ruben’s door. Excited and expectant, they knocked at the door gently, picturing how Ruben would react when he saw them. The moment Ruben opened the door and saw his friends and the pizza, his eyes widened in surprise, a huge grin spreading over his face.“We’re here to practice—together, every day,” Eddie explained in a soft voice, holding up his accordion case. Hearing this, Ruben was moved to tears, a mixture of warmth and relief flooding into his heart. Hardly had they stepped into Ruben’s house when they sprang into action. They dragged chairs outside, balanced pizza boxes on a bench, and started playing, turning the courtyard into their music studio. Accompanied by Eddie and Luis, Ruben felt his fingers found the right chords naturally, his loneliness giving way to newfound passion. The next few weeks witnessed their success in creating a flawless piece of music. Finally the big day came. The trio exchanged encouraging glances, took a deep breath, and stepped on the stage with confidence. Eddie’s fingers danced across the accordion keys, Luis kept the steady beat and Ruben concluded the music with a perfect solo. No sooner had they finished their performance than thunderous applause broke out with all the audience cheering for them. When the judges announced their first prize, the trio hugged each other tightly, tears of excitement shining in their eyes. Holding the trophy high, Eddie looked at his friends. “We couldn’t have done this without playing together,” he said. At this moment , they realized it was not the trophy but understanding and support that made them shine at the Tejano Festival. 学校英文报正在开展以Learning English Beyond the Classroom为题的讨论。请使用图表中的调查结果写一篇短文投稿,内容包括: 1. 学习活动状况描述; 2. 简单评论; 3. 你的建议。 Learning English Beyond the Classroom Nowadays, with the growing popularity of smartphones and computers, an increasing number of students are choosing to learn English beyond the classroom in various ways. (问题、现象、结果总体描述) It can easily be seen that the percentage of students who choose listening to English songs and watching English movies is respectively 65% and 50%. However, those choosing reading English books and visiting English learning websites only account for 18% and 12%. (归类描述) As far as I’m concerned, it is a disturbing trend. (评价) For students, what benefits their study most is reading English books. Because of their lack of self-discipline, they’re more easily addicted to chatting online or playing games.(简单解释) It’s urgent for students themselves to improve their self-discipline, and it’s also urgent for parents and teachers to strengthen the guidance.
