Ⅰ.阅读理解 A (2026·郑州二模)Duncan Jurman became interested in butterflies when he was around 5 years old.He noticed a couple of caterpillars (毛虫) in his backyard and was attracted by the different ways that caterpillars can disguise (伪装) themselves to stay safe in potentially dangerous surroundings. From there, he started to learn more about caterpillars and butterflies. Jurman believes that butterflies play a crucial role in our ecosystems. They're very low on the food web, so they support a lot of different species that rely on them. They're an indicator species for the health of the environment.Once they disappear, everything else is soon to follow. Jurman's goal is to transform the landscape of Florida's Broward County by turning a weedy suburb into a lively butterfly reserve at a time when insect populations are decreasing quickly worldwide.Jurman believes that every flower planted is a potential home and source of food for caterpillars and butterflies. He eventually developed a butterfly-friendly garden in his backyard by researching the different plants that butterflies prefer. He has already raised and released more than 5,000 butterflies from his garden. Jurman also launched the Bring Butterflies Back campaign to educate people about butterflies and invite them to join his cause of protecting butterflies. He said that a lot of people are surprised to learn that insects are declining at such an alarming rate, largely because the decline has been so gradual. This phenomenon helps to explain why people are unwilling to take meaningful actions to save the environment. In 2018, Jurman helped to build a butterfly garden at his high school. The garden has had a regenerative effect on the surrounding environment—birds, native lizards, and other insects have returned in great numbers.Other schools have been inspired to start gardens.“I don't know if we can ever reach the point that we were once at with butterflies, but I think that if everyone gets involved and starts their own garden, they can make their own impact,” Jurman said. 1.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A.People's unawareness of environmental changes. B.The impact of human activities on insect habitats. C.The rapid decline of butterfly populations worldwide. D.The process of transforming natural landscapes into reserves. 根据第四段中的“He said that a lot of...has been so gradual.” 4.What can be inferred from Jurman's words in the last paragraph? A.More gardens are built to increase the number of other insects. B.Jurman is pessimistic about the future of the butterfly population. C.It's impossible to restore butterflies' population to their previous levels. D.People's joint efforts can have a great impact on the butterfly population. A study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology reveals that citizens in three major northeastern U.S. cities—Boston, New York, and Philadelphia—are walking 15 percent faster than they did in 1980. They also found that fewer people are spending extra time in public spaces, with the number dropping by 14 percent over the past three decades. Co-author Arianna Salazar-Miranda said that the findings suggest a shift in how people use public spaces. She said, “When they start to function more like passageways than gathering spots, we risk losing cities' ability to generate informal encounters that drive creativity, engagement and community.” Ruth Conroy Dalton, a professor of Architecture at Northumbria University in the UK, who was not involved in the study, said, “A rise in walking speed shortens the average street journey by about 13 percent, which means fewer seconds in which passerby interactions, eye contact, or simply ‘being present’ can occur.”Dalton added, “When the street itself gives you less to stop and look around, you tend to hurry through it even faster.” In the study, the researchers used machine learning to analyze the videos taken by urbanist William H. Whyte between 1978 and 1980 in New York City. In 2010, a research team led by sociologist Keith Hampton recreated Whyte's filming conditions, shooting updated videos from the same public locations at the same time of day. Among the findings was a drop in the number of people who joined groups after entering public spaces. As for the reasons, the researchers point to the rise of smartphones, which allow people to make plans digitally before stepping outside. Coffee culture may also be playing a role, drawing people away from sidewalks and into climate-controlled, Wi-Fi-equipped venues. The researchers hope their work will inform how cities design and redesign public areas, especially at a time when digital polarization is reshaping how people connect in real life. “Public spaces are such an important element of city life,” said co-author Salazar-Miranda. “The more we can keep improving public spaces, the more we can make our cities better places for people to come together.” 5.Why does the author mention the numbers in paragraph 1? A.To assess urban planning challenges. B.To demonstrate improved traffic efficiency. C.To highlight reduced social contact. D.To provide evidence for faster lifestyles. 6.What is the impact of faster walking speed according to Dalton? A.It promotes physical exercise. B.It leads to more traffic accidents. C.It limits street social interactions. D.It causes less awareness of surroundings. 根据第三段中的“A rise in walking speed shortens ... eye contact, or simply ‘being present’ can occur.” 7.What method was employed to conduct the study? A.Surveys across multiple cities. B.Computer analysis of videos. C.Tracking walking behaviors. D.Comparing urban architecture. 根据第四段中的“the researchers used machine learning to analyze the videos...public locations at the same time of day”可知,研究人员通过机器学习对不同时期、同一公共地点和时间段拍摄的视频进行分析。 8.What is the study expected to help people do? A.Improve public space design. B.Change modern urban lifestyle. C.Control digital communication. D.Preserve historic buildings. 根据最后一段中的“The researchers hope their work ... redesign public areas”以及“The more we can keep...to come together.”
