You can go to the open-air souvenir markets to shop for authentic Fijian crafts (工艺品) like wooden kava bowls and visit the Fiji Museum. You can also attend Fire walking ceremony, the traditional practice of fire walking, where men walk barefoot across hot stones. Best Time to Go There is no bad time for Fiji vacations. However, November to April is the wet season, when temperatures and humidity (湿度) are higher and there is a greater risk of hurricanes. August and October are some of the most popular months to visit Fiji’s islands, but this also means you will have to deal with high-season crowds and prices. Brave the heavy but short downpours in the wet season if you want to escape the crowds and get some great deals. Accommodation & Transport & Food Some restaurants are expensive and attract the world’s rich and famous, but you can find much cheaper options with equally beautiful locations. Budget hotels start at around $30 a night for a double room with sea views. If you don’t mind getting about on a bus, you will find this is a cheap and efficient form of transport. Traveling from Suva to Nadi, for example, costs around $25 for a four-hour trip. You can eat for as little as 5insmallrestaurants, and mid—range restaurants start at around 15 for a meal. Many accommodation options include meals, so you can take full advantage of this to save some money. All up, Fiji is a very reasonably priced destination with priceless experiences on offer. So, what are you waiting for? 21. What can tourists do in Fiji? A. Witness a special ceremony. B. Walk on hot stones with shoes. C. Shop in large indoor souvenir markets. D. Make wooden kava bowls by themselves. 22. In which month are people more likely to avoid crowds of tourists? A. May. B. July. C. September. D. December. 23. What can be learned about Fiji? A. It is friendly to budget tourists. B. It takes five hours to get there. C. It can be reached only by bus. D. It offers free meals in any hotel. B Two teachers from Jersey were travelling to Sri Lanka to teach English to children whose lives were deeply affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami. They volunteered their time to help these children during their summer holidays, giving up their own plans of resting or travelling to provide support for children still recovering from the disaster. This project began after Mike Wavell and Anthony Lewis visited Sri Lanka with the charity (慈善机构) Side by Side. During their visit, they learned that many schools in Sri Lanka would not be closing for the summer because there is nowhere else for the children to go. Without school, the children would have no safe place to stay or people to look after them. During their first visit, they met with teachers from a school in Matara, a town that was heavily hit by the tsunami. A quarter of the students in the school had been directly affected by the disaster, either by losing family members or their homes. The teachers were surprised by the ongoing emotional and educational challenges the students faced, like struggling to focus in class or feeling sad when talking about their past lives. Mr Wavell explained that the project was challenging, especially given the difficult conditions in the area. However, he believed the teachers would get valuable experience and skills from the experience. He hoped that their efforts would inspire more teachers to volunteer like him and made a marked difference to the area. “We’ll pilot the project and see how it goes,” said Mr Wavell. The teachers’ work would help children not only improve their English but also offer a sense of community and hope for the future. Through education, they aimed to support the children’s recovering process and help them rebuild their lives after the disaster. 24. What made the two teachers come to Sri Lanka? A. A natural disaster. B. A formal invitation. C. A training project. D. An impressive view. 25. Why were many schools in Sri Lanka open in the summer? A. To attract students to attend camps. B. To house the homeless children. C. To prepare for the new school year. D. To help students continue the school education. 26. What did Mr Wavell expect other teachers to do according to paragraph 3? A. Follow his example. B. Give money to the school. C. Volunteer in other countries. D. Share their teaching experience. 27. What could be a suitable title for the text? A. Summer Holiday Plans of Teachers in Sri Lanka B. Side by Side Charity’s Help for Homeless Children C. Two Jersey Teachers Teaching English to Tsunami-Affected Children D. The Difficult Conditions of Schools in Matara After the Tsunami C Screens are steadily taking over more and more of our life, leading some researchers to worry about the effect of long-term use on older adults’ brain. It has been suggested that this might lead to so-called “digital dementia” — that depending on digital technology throughout our life might harm cognitive (认知的) functioning in our later years. But new research indicates this view doesn’t appear to be true, at least for the “digital pioneer” generation who first routinely used smartphones, computers and the Internet — and who are now reaching the age when cognitive decline often starts to appear. In a paper published on Monday in Nature Human Behaviour, researchers analyzed 57 studies of digital technology use and cognitive function in more than 400,000 older adults across the world. They found that people in the “digital pioneer” generation who engaged more with digital technology did not have higher rates of cognitive decline. In fact, technology use was associated with lower rates of cognitive decline. One reason some researchers worried about “digital dementia” was previous research that linked television viewing, a passive activity, with negative outcomes such as an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease “On the surface, most computer or smartphone screentime might seem similarly passive,” says the new paper’s co-author Michael Scullin, a neuroscience researcher at Baylor University. “But for this group of middle-aged and older adults, phones and computers have been used for mentally stimulating activities and for social connections, such as solving puzzles, engaging with the news, chatting with friends, or using reminders and alarms to help with daily activities.” “This study provides a strong challenge to the widespread fears about ‘digital dementia’ and highlights the potential of technology as a tool for cognitive enrichment,” says Chiara Scarampi, a neuroscientist at the University of Geneva, who was not involved with the study. “‘Digital dementia’ has always felt like a catchy but overstated concept to me,” she adds. “Cognitive offloading — using tools like reminders or GPS — is not harmful by nature. In fact, it can free up cognitive resources for more complex tasks.” 28. What do we know about the “digital pioneer” generation? A. They are addicted to digital technology. B. They start using digital tools at an old age. C. They are the first to use digital tools regularly. D. They start suffering from sharp cognitive decline. 29. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The widespread use of digital tools. B. The analysis of the new research finding. C. The great complexity of mental activities. D. The implication of the previous research finding. 30. What is Scarampi’s attitude toward “digital dementia”? A. Approving. B. Tolerant. C. Critical. D. Unclear. 31. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text? A. Responsible Technology Use Matters. B. Cognitive Decline Isn’t Just about Aging. C. Digital Tools May Actually Enhance Our Life. D. Tech Use Isn’t Driving Dementia in Older Adults. D Suppose you’re preparing for a tennis match. Your mind wanders, envisioning (预想) every possible outcome. Do you picture yourself in control? Or does your imagination toy with the idea of failure? The answer matters because it could affect your confidence and, ultimately, how well you will perform in the upcoming match. Although people don’t take such moments spent in their imagination as seriously as they should, it can be just as vital as any physical practice, directly impacting your chances of success. This is especially the case in high-pressure situations where what’s happening inside your mind outweighs what’s happening outside. Your imagination shapes how you interpret the world around you and is capable of causing the same physiological (生理的) and emotional responses that are caused by external, real-life events. To take just one example, just as emotional pictures and sounds can cause the pupils to widen, so can emotional mental images in the mind. Another phenomenon highlighting the significance of the imagination is called functional equivalence (相等), which refers to the way the brain doesn’t always distinguish between imagining an action and physically doing it. For instance, when athletes vividly imagine running a race or sinking a basket, their brain scans reveal that the same neural circuits (神经回路) are activated as if they were physically performing the task. Other research with athletes using functional MRI (磁共振成像) has shown that mental practice engages regions of the brain involved in controlling the body and also activates areas linked to focus, motivation and emotional regulation. The principle of functional equivalence extends beyond sports. In one study, pianists were asked to picture moving their fingers across the keys, hearing the tune, and seeing the sheet music. Astonishingly, the same motor areas in their brains lit up as when they actually played. Many studies like this have proved the connection between mental imagery and real-world performance. Whether you’re aiming to build confidence or prepare for a challenge, using your imagination with more intention could make all the difference. The key is to switch your mental channel to an image of capability, control and empowerment. 32. How does the author start the text? A. By giving a definition. B. By explaining an opinion. C. By sharing an experience. D. By presenting a context. 33. In which aspect is mental imagery the same as actual occurrences according to the text? A. Requiring body movements. B. Causing emotional responses. C. Affecting physical functions. D. Strengthening visual reactions. 34. In which case may functional equivalence occur? A. A doctor envisions the procedure of an operation. B. A learner conducts a discussion with a professor. C. A pianist videos finger movements for perfection. D. A speaker practices a deep breath before a speech. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Positive emotion brightens your life. B. Imagination promotes your creativity. C. Mental imagery increases your success. D. Physical practice unlocks your potential. Overcoming the Fear of the Unknown The first step in overcoming fear is to admit it openly and honestly. Many people ignore their fear of the unknown, hoping it will disappear.____36____Instead, accept the fear: It is natural to feel afraid when facing uncertainty. Admitting your fear lets you take control rather than be controlled by it. ____37____ The unknown feels overwhelming (无法抗拒的) because of unpredictable (难以预料的) factors, but you can always influence some parts of a situation. List these controllable elements, such as your preparation, attitude, and effort when starting something new. That’s why I went hiking (徒步远足) alone on the Green Hill near my city, a place I often visited to escape the busy school life. Along the way, I stopped several times to take photos of the wild flowers blooming (盛开) by the path, and watched a group of squirrels (松鼠) jumping between the trees. I enjoyed the fresh air and the soft wind brushing through my hair, walking slowly along the path while listening to birds singing. About an hour later, when I was approaching the top, I caught a weak, soft cry. I stopped at once, looking around to find where the sound came from. Soon, I spotted a small golden dog hiding in the bushes (灌木丛), its right front leg bleeding badly. It was shivering (颤抖) all over, obviously scared and in pain. When I tried to get close, it backed away nervously, letting out a low whine (哀鸣). Looking at its pale (苍白的) face and the blood staining (沾染) the grass around it, I felt my heart break. I quickly took out the first-aid kit (急救包) I always carried for hiking — my dad had reminded me to take it every time I went out alone, just in case of emergencies (紧急情况). I spoke to it in a soft voice to calm it down, telling it I wouldn’t hurt it. Slowly, it trusted me enough to let me touch its warm fur (皮毛). I cleaned the wound gently with the disinfectant (消毒液) in the kit, wrapped it tightly with a bandage (绷带), and gave it some water and a piece of bread I had prepared for my lunch. But soon, a problem came to my mind. I held it carefully in my arms, feeling its small body breathing lightly. I really wanted to take it home, but my parents had always refused to keep pets, saying they were too busy with their work to take care of one, and worried that keeping a dog would affect my study. What if I took it home and they made me send it away? What if I left it here, it would get hurt again by wild animals or fall off the path? I sat there on the rock, holding the warm little dog in my arms, completely stuck. Paragraph 1: Just as I was hesitating, I heard a worried voice calling from the distance. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: A week later, I deliberately spared some spare time to visit the little dog at its warm home. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $高二英语听力模拟试题八第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。 Hi, mike. He should work out a budget first, rather than choose a location. His budget will determine where he looks, and areas outside the city center are usually more affordable. That makes sense. Anything else? Try to find a place close enough for him to walk to work. If walking is impossible, look for a place near transport links, like a bus stop. Having a subway station within five minutes walk was a big deal for me. Okay, what about furniture? Some houses come with furniture, but some don't. I see. A 22. D 23. 根据第一段中“You can also attend Fire walking ceremony, the traditional practice of fire walking, where men walk barefoot across hot stones. (你也可以参加火走仪式,传统的火走仪式,男人们赤脚走过热石头。)”可知,游客可以见证一个特别的仪式。故选A。 根据 Best Time to Go 部分中“Brave the heavy but short downpours in the wet season if you want to escape the crowds and get some great deals. (如果你想避开拥挤的人群,买到便宜的东西,就勇敢地面对雨季的短时暴雨。)”可知,人们在雨季来斐济岛可以避开大批游客,再结合“However, November to April is the wet season, when temperatures and humidity (湿度) are higher and there is a greater risk of hurricanes. (然而,11月到4月是雨季,温度和湿度较高,飓风的风险也更大。)”可知,12月份属于雨季,此时旅行更有可能避开成群的游客。故选D。 【23题详解】 细节理解题。根据Accommodation &Transport & Food 部分的介绍,特别是最后一段“All up, Fiji is a very reasonably priced destination with priceless experiences on offer. The Difficult Conditions of Schools in Matara After the Tsunami 【答案】24. A 25. B 26. A 27. C 【解析】 【导语】本文为记叙文。文章通过两位泽西岛教师的志愿行动,展现了教育在灾后重建中的关键作用,强调人道主义精神与社区支持对受灾害影响儿童的重要性。 【24题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Two teachers from Jersey were travelling to Sri Lanka to teach English to children whose lives were deeply affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami. They volunteered their time to help these children during their summer holidays, giving up their own plans of resting or travelling to provide support for children still recovering from the disaster.(两位来自泽西岛的教师前往斯里兰卡,为那些生活深受节礼日海啸影响的儿童教授英语。他们利用暑假志愿帮助这些孩子,放弃了休息或旅行的个人计划,为仍在灾后恢复中的儿童提供支持。)”可知,这两位老师前往斯里兰卡的原因是孩子们的生活深受节礼日海啸的影响,老师去为仍在灾后恢复中的儿童提供支持,故其根本原因是一场自然灾害。故选A。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“During their visit, they learned that many schools in Sri Lanka would not be closing for the summer because there is nowhere else for the children to go. Without school, the children would have no safe place to stay or people to look after them. (访问期间,他们了解到斯里兰卡的许多学校暑假期间并不会关闭,因为孩子们无处可去。如果学校关闭,孩子们将没有安全的地方待着,也没有人照顾他们。)”可知,学校暑假开放的原因是孩子无处可去,即是为了给无家可归或缺乏照顾的孩子提供安身之处。故选B。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段“However, he believed the teachers would get valuable experience and skills from the experience. He hoped that their efforts would inspire more teachers to volunteer like him and made a marked difference to the area.(然而,他相信教师们会从这段经历中获得宝贵的经验和技能。他希望他们的努力能激励更多老师像他一样参与志愿服务,并为该地区带来显著改变。)”可知,Mr Wavell希望其他老师可以像他一样参与志愿教学,故希望其他老师能效仿他。故选A。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“Two teachers from Jersey were travelling to Sri Lanka to teach English to children whose lives were deeply affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami.(两位来自泽西岛的教师前往斯里兰卡,为那些生活深受节礼日海啸影响的孩子们教授英语。)”和末段“The teachers’ work would help children not only improve their English but also offer a sense of community and hope for the future. Through education, they aimed to support the children’s recovering process and help them rebuild their lives after the disaster.(老师们的工作不仅帮助孩子们提高英语水平,还为他们带来社区感和对未来的希望。通过教育,他们旨在支持孩子们的恢复进程,帮助他们在灾后重建生活。)”可知,文章通过两位泽西岛教师的志愿行动,展现了教育在灾后重建中的关键作用,强调人道主义精神与社区支持对受灾害影响儿童的重要性,故C项“两位来自泽西岛的教师为海啸受灾儿童教授英语”能概括全文主旨,适合作文章标题。故选C。 C Screens are steadily taking over more and more of our life, leading some researchers to worry about the effect of long-term use on older adults’ brain. One reason some researchers worried about “digital dementia” was previous research that linked television viewing, a passive activity, with negative outcomes such as an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默症). “On the surface, most computer or smartphone screentime might seem similarly passive,” says the new paper’s co-author Michael Scullin, a neuroscience researcher at Baylor University. 【答案】28. C 29. B 30. C 31. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要是关于新的研究表明长期使用数字技术(如智能手机、电脑)的“数字先驱”一代并未出现更高的认知衰退风险,反而可能因技术使用(如解谜、社交)降低认知衰退概率,反驳了“数字痴呆症”的担忧。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“But new research indicates this view doesn’t appear to be true, at least for the “digital pioneer” generation who first routinely used smartphones, computers and the Internet — and who are now reaching the age when cognitive decline often starts to appear. (但新的研究表明,这种观点似乎并不成立,至少对于“数字先驱”一代而言是如此。这一代人是第一批常规使用智能手机、电脑和互联网的群体,如今他们正步入认知衰退通常开始出现的年龄段。)”可知,“数字先驱”一代指的是首批定期使用数字工具的人群。故选C。 【29题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第四段“One reason some researchers worried about “digital dementia” was previous research that linked television viewing, a passive activity, with negative outcomes such as an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默症). “On the surface, most computer or smartphone screentime might seem similarly passive,” says the new paper’s co-author Michael Scullin, a neuroscience researcher at Baylor University. “But for this group of middle-aged and older adults, phones and computers have been used for mentally stimulating activities and for social connections, such as solving puzzles, engaging with the news, chatting with friends, or using reminders and alarms to help with daily activities.” B“The analysis of the new research finding. (对新研究发现的分析。)”概括了段落核心。故选B。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“‘Digital dementia’ has always felt like a catchy but overstated concept to me,” she adds. “Cognitive offloading — using tools like reminders or GPS — is not harmful by nature. In fact, it can free up cognitive resources for more complex tasks.” (她补充道:“数字痴呆症”向来是一个吸睛但言过其实的概念”)”可知,斯卡拉皮认对“数字痴呆症”这一说法持批判态度。故选C。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段中“They found that people in the “digital pioneer” generation who engaged more with digital technology did not have higher rates of cognitive decline. In fact, technology use was associated with lower rates of cognitive decline.(他们发现,“数字先驱”一代中更多接触数字技术的人,认知衰退的比例并未更高。 D。 D Suppose you’re preparing for a tennis match. D 33. B 34. A 35. 根据第一段“Suppose you’re preparing for a tennis match. Your mind wanders, envisioning (预想) every possible outcome. 根据第二段中“Your imagination shapes how you interpret the world around you and is capable of causing the same physiological (生理的) and emotional responses that are caused by external, real-life events. 根据第三段中“Another phenomenon highlighting the significance of the imagination is called functional equivalence (相等), which refers to the way the brain doesn’t always distinguish between imagining an action and physically doing it.(另一个突出想象力重要性的现象称为功能等同,指大脑并不总是能区分想象一个动作和实际执行它)”及“Other research with athletes using functional MRI (磁共振成像) has shown that mental practice engages regions of the brain involved in controlling the body and also activates areas linked to focus, motivation and emotional regulation.(其他对运动员使用功能性磁共振成像的研究表明,心理练习会激活大脑中控制身体的区域,也会激活与专注、动机和情绪调节相关的区域)”可知,该理论适用于“想象某动作时大脑激活与实际执行相同神经回路”的场景。 故选A。 Whether you’re aiming to build confidence or prepare for a challenge, using your imagination with more intention could make all the difference. Moving attention from what you cannot change to what you can change can reduce anxiety, making uncertainty feel more manageable. How you see the unknown directly affects your fear. If you only view uncertainty as possible failure, your fear will grow.____38____This shift (改变) in mindset can let you welcome new possibilities. Overcoming fear does not need big steps; small and steady actions work better. Challenge yourself with small daily uncertainties, like trying a new food or taking a different path. Each small step builds confidence, slowly enlarging your comfort zone.____39____ Mindfulness helps calm anxiety and keeps you realistic in uncertainty.____40____ When anxious thoughts appear, focus on the present. Regular mindfulness builds a calm, balanced way to face the unknown, helping you deal with uncertainty gently and effectively. A. Focus on what you can control. B. However, pretending fear does not exist only gives it more power. C. But if you can see it as a chance for learning, everything will change. D. Reflecting on the past good experiences can improve your confidence. E. Techniques like mindful observation pull you back from future worries. F. Seeking support from others can provide you with different perspective. G. These small wins add up, making the unknown less frightening over time. 36. B 37. A 38. C 39. G 40. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just as I was hesitating, I heard a worried voice calling from the distance. I stood up immediately and looked around, seeing a young lady running towards me anxiously. She told me she was the dog’s owner and had been searching for her lost pet for a long time. Noticing the bandaged leg of the little dog, she was deeply grateful for my kindness and careful treatment. She explained that the dog accidentally ran into the bushes and got injured. Knowing the dog would have a safe home, I felt a huge sense of relief. A week later, I deliberately spared some spare time to visit the little dog at its warm home. The dog recognized me at once, wagging its tail happily and jumping gently to greet me. Its leg had recovered greatly. The owner thanked me again warmly and shared lovely photos of the dog. This special experience taught me that small kindness can bring great warmth. It also made my tiring weekend totally worthwhile and unforgettable. 词汇激活 行为类 ①寻找:search for/seek for ②感谢:thank/appreciate ③认出:recognize/identify 情绪类 ①善意:kindness/goodness ②欢快地:happily/merrily 【点睛】[高分句型1] This special experience taught me that small kindness can bring great warmth.
