For the next 16 years, he braved freezing cold, thin air, and dangerous mountain roads. He and his team collected more than 40 million seeds — one of the largest seed collections in the world.
Zhong Yang knew it was important to train more people. He started a programme(项目)to find and train local students in field research. Many of them later became scientists themselves. His love for his work and research lives on in his students.

What Makes a Person Inspiring?
In a classroom in Beijing, Ms Wang asked her students a simple question: "Who inspires you and why?" The answers surprised her.
Li Ming was the first to speak. "I admire my father most," he said. "He is not famous or rich. He is just a bus driver. But every day, he gets up at 4:30 in the morning to make sure people can get to work on time. He has never missed a single day of work in 20 years. He always says, 'Every job is important if you do it with all your heart.' That, to me, is true greatness."
Next, Zhang Yue shared her story. "My hero is my older sister. She has a learning disability(学习障碍), so school was always difficult for her. But she never gave up. She stayed up late every night studying, and last year, she finally passed the college entrance exam(大学入学考试). She taught me that nothing is impossible if you work hard enough."
Then Emma spoke. "I look up to my grandmother. When she was 50, she decided to learn English — from zero. Everyone said it was too late for her, but she didn't listen. Now, 15 years later, she can read English novels and even travelled to the UK by herself. She always tells me, 'Age is just a number.'"
After the class, Ms Wang realized something important: inspiring people are not always the ones in history books or on TV. Sometimes, they are right beside us — in our homes, in our classrooms, and in our daily lives.

A. He is a teacher. B. He is a bus driver. C. He is a scientist. D. He is a doctor.

A. Students only admire famous people.
B. Inspiring people can be ordinary people around us.

The Power of One Teacher
When I was 13 years old, I hated school. I came from a poor family and was often laughed at(被嘲笑)by other students. I thought I was not smart enough. I wanted to drop out of school(辍学).
Then I met Ms Chen, my new English teacher. She was different from other teachers. She noticed that I was quiet and unhappy. One day after class, she asked me to stay. "I see something special in you," she said. "You write very well. Have you ever thought about becoming a writer?"
No one had ever said anything like that to me before. Her words gave me hope. Ms Chen started to give me extra(额外的)writing practice after school. She brought me books to read — books about people who overcame(克服)difficulties and achieved great things. She told me stories about Mozi and Amelia Earhart, and how they never gave up even when things were hard.
Slowly, I began to believe in myself. My grades improved(提高), and I even won a writing competition(比赛)in my school. When I graduated from high school, I wrote Ms Chen a letter: "You didn't just teach me English — you taught me to believe in myself. You are the reason I didn't give up."
Now, 15 years later, I am a writer. I have published(出版)three books. Every time I hold a new book in my hands, I think of Ms Chen. She taught me a lesson I will never forget: sometimes, one person who believes in you can change your whole life.

【答案】13.C 14.B 15.A 16.B 17.C 18.B 19.D 20.B
文章紧扣Unit 2主题,8个设空覆盖了动词词义辨析(decided/gave up/returned/encouraged)、It is adj for/of sb to do区分、现在完成时、encourage sb to do、It is amazing that...
C项decided(决定)符合语境。A项refused(拒绝)与"想受教育"矛盾,B项forgot(忘记)无逻辑依据,D项regretted(后悔)不合上下文。故选C。
14.考查"It is + adj + for/of sb to do sth"句型辨析。
A项gave up(放弃)正确。B项picked up(捡起),C项showed up(出现),D项stayed up(熬夜),均不符合"坚持不放弃"的语境。故选A。
A项moved(搬家)不能体现"回去",C项travelled(旅行)目的性不够明确,D项drove(开车)太具体且非核心动作。故选B。
18.考查"It is never too late to do sth"固定表达。祖母说"学习新东西永远不晚",is never too late为正确表达。A项is always too late意思相反,C/D项现在完成时与格言式表达不符。故选B。
A项forced(强迫)带有负面含义,B项allowed(允许)语气不够,C项warned(警告)不合积极语境。encourage sb to do为Unit 2核心短语。故选D。
20.考查"It is amazing that..." A项what引导名词性从句但此处不需要"what+名词"结构,C项who指人,D项whether表"是否"不合语义。故选B。

A Pioneer of the Sky
Amelia Earhart was born in 1897 in Kansas, the USA. As a child, she was full of courage(勇气). Her parents supported her and encouraged her to be herself. After taking her first flight in a plane at the age of 23, she knew immediately that she wanted to become a pilot(飞行员).
At that time, very few women became pilots. It was difficult for a woman to be taken seriously in the world of flying. But Earhart did not let that stop her. In 1928, she became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean as a passenger(乘客). Four years later, in 1932, she made history again by flying across the Atlantic alone — the first woman ever to do so.
Earhart set many other records. She became the first person to fly alone from Hawaii to California. She also wrote books about her flying experiences and gave speeches to encourage women to follow their dreams.
In 1937, Earhart tried to fly around the world. Sadly, her plane disappeared(消失)over the Pacific Ocean, and she was never found. But her spirit lives on. She once said, "The most difficult thing is the decision to act. The rest is just tenacity(毅力)." Today, people still look up to her as a symbol(象征)of courage and determination.
24. When did Earhart first fly in a plane?
A. In 1897. B. At the age of 23. C. In 1928. D. In 1932.
25. What did Earhart achieve in 1932?
A. She flew across the Atlantic as a passenger(乘客).
B. She became the first woman to fly alone across the Atlantic.
C. She flew from Hawaii to California.
D. She started writing books.
26. What can we learn from Earhart's story?
A. Flying is very dangerous and should be avoided.
B. Only men can become great pilots.
C. Courage and determination can help us achieve our dreams.
D. Writing books is more important than flying.
After taking her first flight...at the age of 23"明确指出23岁首次坐飞机。
第二段"in 1932, she made history again by flying across the Atlantic alone"表明1932年成为首位独自飞越大西洋的女性。
A项与全文积极基调相反,B项与"few women became pilots...she did not let that stop her"矛盾,D项以偏概全(写作只是她的辅助活动)。故选C。

The Man Who Loved Seeds
On 25 September 2017, the scientific world was shaken by the news that Chinese professor Zhong Yang had died in a car accident at the age of 53. The well-respected biologist(生物学家)had spent his whole life researching plants and collecting seeds.
Zhong Yang was born in 1964. When he was young, he showed a deep love for science. He was an excellent student, entering university at the early age of 15. There, he studied radio electronics before later turning to biology.
Zhong Yang believed that seed banks(种子库)are very important for the future. When he discovered that there was not enough research on the seeds from Xizang, he decided to go there and collect seeds himself. In 2001, he began his work in Xizang.
27. How old was Zhong Yang when he entered university?
A. 15 years old. B. 18 years old. C. 20 years old. D. 53 years old.
28. Why did Zhong Yang go to Xizang?
A. He wanted to climb mountains.
B. There was not enough research on seeds from Xizang.
C. He was looking for a new job.
D. The government sent him there.
29. What makes Zhong Yang's work continue even after his death?
A. He collected more than 40 million seeds.
B. He wrote many books about seeds.
C. The students he trained have become scientists themselves.
D. He built a big seed bank in Beijing.
【答案】27.A 28.B 29.C
第二段"entering university at the early age of 15"直接给出答案——15岁上大学。 故选A。
When he discovered that there was not enough research on the seeds from Xizang, he decided to go there"明确说明他去西藏的原因——因为对西藏种子的研究不足。
His love for his work and research lives on in his students"点明——他培养的学生已成为科学家,钟扬的事业通过学生得以延续。
30. What does Li Ming's father do?
A. He is a teacher. B. He is a bus driver. C. He is a scientist. D. He is a doctor.
31. Why does Zhang Yue admire her sister?
A. Because she is very beautiful.
B. Because she travels around the world.
C. Because she never gave up and finally passed the college entrance exam(大学入学考试).
D. Because she helps Zhang Yue with homework.
32. What did Emma's grandmother do at the age of 50?
A. She started learning English from zero. B. She became a teacher.
C. She travelled to the UK. D. She wrote an English novel.
33. What did Ms Wang realize after the class?
A. Students only admire famous people.
B. Inspiring people can be ordinary people around us.
C. Bus drivers are the most inspiring people.
D. Old people should not learn new things.
【答案】30.B 31.C 32.A 33.B
He is just a bus driver."。A/C/D项文中未提及。故选B。
第三段"she never gave up...finally passed the college entrance exam"说明姐姐令人敬佩的原因——不放弃并最终考上大学。
When she was 50, she decided to learn English — from zero"直接给出答案。 故选A。
末段Ms Wang的感悟"inspiring people are not always the ones in history books...they are right beside us"点明了中心思想——榜样也可以是身边平凡的人。
34. Why did the writer want to drop out of school at first?
________________________________________________________________________________________
35. What did Ms Chen do to help the writer? (Give at least two examples.)
________________________________________________________________________________________
36. What does the writer do now?
________________________________________________________________________________________
37. Do you agree that "one person who believes in you can change your whole life"? Why or why not? (Give at least 2 reasons)
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
34.Because he/she came from a poor family, was laughed at by other students, and thought he/she was not smart enough.
35.Ms Chen gave the writer extra writing practice after school, brought books about inspiring people to read, and told stories about Mozi and Amelia Earhart.
36.He/She is now a writer and has published(出版)three books.
Yes, I agree. First, the writer's story shows this clearly — without Ms Chen's encouragement, the writer might have dropped out of school and never become a writer. One person's belief changed the writer's whole life. Second, in my own life, my art teacher believed in me when I thought I couldn't draw well. She spent extra time teaching me, and now art is my favourite subject. So I truly believe that one person who believes in you can make a huge difference.
I came from a poor family and was often laughed at by other students. I thought I was not smart enough. I wanted to drop out of school"可提取三个原因。
根据第三段可提取Ms Chen帮助作者的三件事:①gave extra writing practice after school ②brought books about inspiring people to read ③told stories about Mozi and Amelia Earhart。
Now, 15 years later, I am a writer. I have published(出版)three books."
