My hometown has changed a lot in the last few years. In the past, the roads were narrow and dirty. There used to be only a few small shops. People had to go to the big city to buy many things. Now, great changes have taken place. The roads have been widened and new streetlights have been put up. A big supermarket has opened near my home, so shopping has become much easier. A small park was also built last year. Old people like to exercise there in the morning. I feel very happy and proud to see these changes. They have made our lives more convenient and comfortable. I believe my hometown will become even better in the future.
Dear Mike,
I'm happy to tell you about the changes in my hometown. In the past, my hometown used to be a small and quiet village. The roads were narrow and there were no streetlights at night. Most people lived in old houses.
Now, great changes have taken place. Wide roads and a new highway have been built, making travel much easier. A new hospital and a library have also been opened. Many families have moved into new apartments. A big park has been built near the river, and people like to walk there after dinner.
People here are very happy about these changes. Their lives have become much more convenient. I am also very proud of my hometown. I hope you can come and visit someday — I will show you around!
Yours,
Li Hua

A Letter from Kenya
Dear Li Hua,
My name is Kip. I live in Nairobi(内罗毕), Kenya(肯尼亚). I'm writing to tell you about a big change in my country — the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway.
Before 2017, travelling between Mombasa and Nairobi was very difficult. The only ways were rough roads(崎岖的道路)and an old railway line built in 1901. A train journey used to take more than 10 hours! It was hard for farmers to send their fresh food to the city. A lot of food went bad(变质)on the way.
In 2017, a new 480-kilometre railway was opened. It was built with the help of Chinese engineers and workers. Now, the train journey between the two cities takes only about five to six hours. More than two million people use it every year. Local farmers can now easily send their products to markets in the city. Many new businesses have started near the railway stations.
The railway has not only made travel faster — it has also brought our two countries closer together. My father works at one of the new stations. He says, "This railway is a symbol(象征)of friendship between Kenya and China."
I hope one day you can come to Kenya and ride this train yourself!
Your friend,
Kip

A. About five to six hours. B. More than 10 hours. C. About 30 minutes. D. A whole week.
31. Who helped build the new Mombasa-Nairobi Railway?
A. American engineers. B. Japanese workers.
C. Chinese engineers and workers. D. Kenyan farmers.

A. He thinks it is useless. B. He is proud of it and sees it as a symbol of friendship.
C. He doesn't care about it. D. He thinks it has made things worse.
Back to My Hometown
I left my hometown ten years ago to study in a big city. Last month, I went back for the first time. I could not believe my eyes!
When I was young, my hometown was a small, quiet village. The roads were narrow and muddy(泥泞的). There were no streetlights(路灯), so it was very dark at night. Most families lived in old houses made of wood and mud. There was only one small shop in the whole village.
Now, everything has changed. The narrow roads have been replaced by wide, clean streets with bright streetlights. A new highway connects our village to the nearest city, so it now takes only 40 minutes by car — it used to take over two hours! Many families have moved into new brick(砖)houses. There are now several supermarkets, a small hospital, and even a new library.
The biggest change, however, is the people. In the past, most young people left the village to find work in big cities. Now, with the new highway and better living conditions(条件), many have come back. My cousin, who used to work in a factory in Shenzhen, has returned and opened a small restaurant. "Life here is much better than before," he told me. "And I can be with my family."
Seeing all these changes, I felt both surprised and proud. Surprised because the changes are so big, and proud because my hometown has become such a wonderful place. Change is not just about new roads or buildings — it is about people having better lives.

( ) 1. — Have you ever ____ to the new library?
— Yes, I ____ there last weekend.
A. been; went B. gone; went C. been; have gone D. gone; have been
【答案】A
【解析】考查have been to与一般过去时的搭配。have been to表示"去过某地(已返回)";答语中"last weekend"为具体的过去时间,用一般过去时went。A项been; went正确。 故选A。
( ) 2. My grandfather ____ in a factory, but now he is retired and ____ gardening every day.
A. used to work; enjoys B. used to working; enjoys C. used to work; enjoyed D. was used to work; enjoys
【答案】A
【解析】考查used to do sth. B项used to working为错误搭配(be used to doing意为"习惯于做");C项第二空用过去式不合"now"的语境;D项was used to work搭配错误。故选A。
( ) 3. Great changes ____ in my hometown over the past ten years.
A. took place B. have taken place C. take place D. will take place
over the past ten years"(在过去十年里)是现在完成时的标志性时间状语,表示从过去持续到现在的变化,应用have taken place。A项took place为一般过去时,不能与over the past...
( ) 4. The new railway ____ in 2017, and it ____ many people's lives since then.
A. opened; has improved B. was opened; has improved C. has opened; improved D. was opened; improved
第二空:since then(自那以后)为现在完成时标志,用has improved。
( ) 5. — ____ have you worked in this hospital?
— For about eight years.
A. How long B. How often C. How soon D. How far
【答案】A
答语"For about eight years"为一段时间,对时间段提问应用How long(多久)。B项How often问频率,C项How soon问"多久以后",D项How far问距离。故选A。
( ) 6. I ____ reading the book yet. I ____ it this weekend.
A. haven't finished; will finish B. didn't finish; finish C. haven't finished; finished D. don't finish; will finish
【答案】A
第一空:yet为现在完成时标志,否定用haven't finished;第二空:this weekend为将来时间,用will finish。 故选A。
( ) 7. The ____ allows farmers to grow vegetables even in cold winter.
A. highway B. greenhouse C. railway D. sandstorm
根据"即使在寒冷的冬天也能种蔬菜",应选greenhouse(温室)。A项highway(公路),C项railway(铁路),D项sandstorm(沙尘暴),均不能实现在冬天种蔬菜的功能。故选B。
( ) 8. — Where is Lisa?
— She ____ to the supermarket. She ____ about ten minutes ago.
A. has gone; left B. has been; has left C. went; left D. has gone; has left
【答案】A
故选A。
( ) 9. The villagers' lives ____ greatly since the new road ____.
A. have improved; was built B. improved; has been built C. have improved; has been built D. improved; was built
【答案】A
故选A。
( ) 10. In the past, there ____ no hospital in our town. Now a big one ____ near the square.
A. is; is built B. used to be; has been built C. used to be; built D. was; has built
【答案】B
【解析】考查used to be与现在完成时被动语态。第一空:In the past提示"过去有(现在没了)",用used to be;第二空:Now提示医院"已经被建好",用现在完成时被动has been built。A项is不合"In the past";D项has built为主动语态,不合"被建"的语义。故选B。
( ) 11. So far, the government ____ more than 2,000 new houses for the villagers.
A. builds B. has built C. built D. is building
( ) 12. These changes ____ a lot of tourists to our village and ____ our lives much better.
A. has brought; made B. have brought; made C. have brought; have made D. brought; have made
主语These changes为复数,助动词用have。

18. A. move B. moved C. have moved D. are moving
19. A. start B. started C. have started D. will start
20. A. runs B. ran C. has run D. is running
13.A 14.B 15.A 16.C 17.A 18.B 19.C 20.A
B项take off意为"起飞、脱下",C项take away意为"带走",D项take up意为"占据、开始从事",均不合语境。故选A。
A项is为现在时,C项has been为现在完成时,D项will be为将来时。故选B。
15.考查used to do的用法。 B项are used to doing意为"习惯于做",C项use to语法错误,D项were used to与主语People搭配不当。故选A。
A项builds为一般现在时(表习惯),B项built为一般过去时(缺少与now的对比感),D项was building为过去进行时。故选C。
A项takes正确。B项took为过去时,C项has taken为现在完成时(不适用于描述"现在一般情况"),D项will take为将来时。故选A。
A项start"现在开始"不表达已完成,B项started为单纯过去,D项will start为将来时。故选C。
故选A。

23. Zhang Mei says, "I want to see how people turned a desert into a forest. I'd like to know the story of the workers who made this happen."
【答案】21.D 22.A 23.B
选项以展览简介的形式呈现,考查学生快速定位关键信息(farming/transport/environment)并排除干扰项的能力。
故选A。
张梅的兴趣关键词:desert into a forest(沙漠变森林)、workers who spent 60 years planting trees(种树60年的工人)→ B选项"The Green Miracle"完全匹配——讲述塞罕坝沙漠变森林的故事。
The Green Miracle of Saihanba
In 1962, Wang Shanghai moved with his family from their house in Chengde to Saihanba. At that time, there were few trees. Strong winds and sandstorms(沙尘暴)often hit the area. Life was very hard. Temperatures were below freezing(冰点以下)during the long winter.
But Wang Shanghai and his team of 369 workers were determined(有决心的)to change Saihanba. They wanted to make the environment better by planting trees. It was not easy. Many trees died in the first few years because of the cold and poor soil(土壤). But they never gave up.
Over the next 60 years, one generation(一代人)after another continued the work. They planted millions of trees. Slowly, the land changed. Trees grew taller. More animals came back. Today, Saihanba is known as "the green miracle(绿色奇迹)". The land that was once a desert is now covered with green forests.
The story of Saihanba shows that when people work together and never give up, they can create amazing changes. It is not just a story about trees — it is a story about hope and hard work.
24. What was Saihanba like when Wang Shanghai first arrived?
A. Full of trees and animals. B. Cold with sandstorms. C. Warm and comfortable. D. A big modern city.
25. Why did many trees die in the first few years?
A. Because the workers didn't work hard enough.
B. Because the government didn't support the project.
C. Because of the cold weather and poor soil.
D. Because there were too many animals.
26. What can we learn from the story of Saihanba?
A. Planting trees is very easy.
B. One person can change the whole world.
C. Working together and never giving up can create miracles.
D. Deserts should be left as they are.
B项"Cold with sandstorms"准确概括。
Many trees died...because of the cold and poor soil"——寒冷天气和贫瘠土壤是早期树木死亡的原因。A项与"never gave up"矛盾,B项文中未提,D项错误(动物少而非多)。故选C。
末段总结"when people work together and never give up, they can create amazing changes"——合作与不放弃可以创造奇迹。
Two Changes, One World
Change 1: The Digital Classroom
Ten years ago, Liu Fang's school had old blackboards and chalk. Students carried heavy backpacks full of books. "We only saw computers once a week in the computer room," she says. Today, every classroom has a smart whiteboard(智能白板). Students use tablets(平板电脑)to read digital books and do homework online. "Learning has become much more interesting," Liu Fang says. "We can watch videos, do interactive(互动的)exercises, and even talk to students in other countries through the Internet."
Change 2: A Bridge to the World
Zhang Wei lives in a mountain village in Guizhou. Ten years ago, the only way to reach the nearest town was a narrow(狭窄的)dirt road. It took over three hours on foot. Farmers could not easily sell their products. Now, a wide highway and a concrete bridge(混凝土桥)connect the village to the outside world. The journey to town now takes only 30 minutes by bus. "We can now sell our fruit and vegetables to big cities. Tourists also come to visit our village," Zhang Wei says happily.
27. What did Liu Fang's school use ten years ago?
A. Tablets and smart whiteboards. B. Blackboards and chalk.
C. Digital books. D. Computers in every classroom.
28. How has the bridge changed Zhang Wei's village?
A. It has made the villagers poorer. B. It has made the journey to town longer.
C. It has helped villagers sell products to big cities. D. It has stopped tourists from coming.
29. What do the two changes have in common(共同点)?
A. Both are about transport changes.
B. Both happened in the same province.
C. Both have made people's lives better.
D. Both took over 50 years to happen.
Ten years ago, Liu Fang's school had old blackboards and chalk."。
We can now sell our fruit and vegetables to big cities. Tourists also come to visit our village."——桥和公路让村民能把产品卖到城市、吸引游客。
Your friend,
Kip
30. How long did a train journey from Mombasa to Nairobi use to take?
A. About five to six hours. B. More than 10 hours. C. About 30 minutes. D. A whole week.
31. Who helped build the new Mombasa-Nairobi Railway?
A. American engineers. B. Japanese workers.
C. Chinese engineers and workers. D. Kenyan farmers.
32. How has the railway helped local farmers?
A. They can now grow more food. B. They can easily send products to city markets.
C. They no longer need to work. D. They have moved to big cities.
33. What is Kip's attitude(态度)towards the railway?
A. He thinks it is useless. B. He is proud of it and sees it as a symbol of friendship.
C. He doesn't care about it. D. He thinks it has made things worse.
A train journey used to take more than 10 hours!" A项是现在的时间(five to six hours)。故选B。
It was built with the help of Chinese engineers and workers."
Local farmers can now easily send their products to markets in the city."
Kip的父亲说铁路是"a symbol of friendship between Kenya and China",信的结尾Kip邀请李华来坐火车,全文语气积极自豪。
34. How long did it use to take to reach the nearest city from the writer's hometown?
________________________________________________________________________________________
35. What new facilities(设施)does the village now have? (Give at least two examples.)
________________________________________________________________________________________
36. Why have many young people come back to the village?
________________________________________________________________________________________
37. Do you think the changes in the writer's hometown are positive(积极的)? Why or why not? (Give at least 2 reasons)
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
34.It used to take over two hours. / Over two hours.
35.The village now has wide clean streets, streetlights, a highway, supermarkets, a small hospital, and a new library.
36.Because of the new highway and better living conditions. / With the new highway and better living conditions, many young people have come back.
Yes, I think the changes are positive. First, the new roads and highway have made travel much easier and faster — it now takes only 40 minutes instead of over two hours. Second, people's lives have improved — they live in new brick houses, have more shops and a hospital, and young people can come back to start businesses while staying with their families. These changes show that the village has developed in a good way.
根据第三段"it used to take over two hours"可直接获取答案。注意使用used to结构或直接答over two hours均可得分。
根据第三段描述——wide clean streets, streetlights, new highway, supermarkets, small hospital, new library。
根据第四段"with the new highway and better living conditions, many have come back"可直接获取答案。关键词:new highway + better living conditions。

Your friend,
Kip
