Passage A(人与自然之高空体验)
Fly with the wind
Are you getting tired of visiting similar places on the ground? Why not try a flight (飞) in a hot air balloon? Our hot air balloon will take you high above to enjoy a special view. If you want to give it a try, there are a few things you need to know.
Children under 12 must fly with an adult. People of all ages are welcome. However, all passengers should be fit enough to climb in and out of the basket under the balloon.
Weather conditions (条) are important for a successful flight. Light winds are needed, and a clear sky with no rain is also important. If there is too much cloud cover, we'll cancel (消) the flight and change it to another date.
All our flights take place during the short time after sunrise or before sunset. The flying season starts in March, and the last flights arein October. After that we shut down for the winter.
The temperature in the sky is lower than on the ground, so it's a good idea to wear more clothes. Also, remember to put on your boots, as you may have to walk through wet and muddy (的) fields at the end of the trip. They will protect your feet from dirt.
The wind decides where the balloon goes! The pilot chooses a safe place to land. It might be 5 to 30 km away from the starting point. But don't worry. We'll send a bus to pick you up. You won't have to walk all the way back!
If you'd like to book a flight or get more information, just call us or visit our website.

A. When it has light winds B. When the sky is too cloudy
C. When it is sunny in the morning D. When the temperature is low
2. Which time is suitable for a hot air balloon flight?
A. Noon in December B. After sunrise in April

Passage B(欧洲致命热浪: 天空中的"欧米伽阻塞”)
In June 2026, a record-breaking heatwave swept across Europe, with temperatures reaching 44.3°C in parts of France. Several European countries reported thousands of heat-related deaths, raising serious concerns about public safety under extreme weather conditions. Scientists quickly identified the main cause: a powerful weather
pattern known as an "omega block."
The name comes from the Greek letterΩ(omega), which the high-pressure system resembles on weather maps. As trong high-pressure system becomes trapped between two low-pressure systems, forming a shape like the Greek letter omega. This stable configuration prevents the high-pressure system from moving, allowing it to stay over the same area for days or even weeks.
The omega block acts like a giant heat dome over Europe. First, it pulls hot, dry air from the Sahara Desert in North Africa northward and locks it over western and southern Europe. Second, the sinking air inside the high-pressure system gets compressed and heats up further, while also preventing cloud formation and rainfall. Third, it blocks cool, wet air from the Atlantic Ocean carried by the westerly winds from entering the continent. As a result, heat keeps building up with no way to escape, pushing temperatures higher and higher.
The 2026 European heatwave serves as a powerful warning. With climate change making extreme weather events more frequent, understanding phenomena like the omega block becomes crucial for saving lives.
Governments across Europe are now discussing better heat emergency plans, early warning systems, and long-term strategies to protect their citizens from future heatwaves.
1. What was the highest temperature recorded in France during the 2026 heatwave?
A.43.4°C B.44.3°C C.44.4°C D.43.3°C
1. What can be inferred about the omega block from Paragraph 2?
A. It is a rare but mobile weather pattern.
B. It forms when three low-pressure systems meet.
C. It stays in one place for an extended period.
D. It looks like the Greek letter alpha on maps.
3. Why does the author use the metaphor of a "heat dome" in Paragraph 3?
A. To show that the heatwave only affected a small area.
B. To explain how the omega block traps heat and prevents cooling.
C. To suggest that heatwaves are caused by volcanic activity
D. To describe the shape of the high-pressure system.
4. What does the word "configuration" in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. A type of computer setting. B. An arrangement of parts or elements.
C. A method of cooking. D. A kind of mathematical formula.
· The sun shines brightly and there isn’t a cloud in the sky.
· The wind blows gently, bringing cool air in summer.
· Dark clouds covered the sky, and soon it began to rain heavily.
· Thick fog appeared in the early morning, so we could hardly see far away.
· Snow fell quietly, covering trees and roads with white.
· Temperatures kept rising and reached a record high.

An old saying used for forecasting (预测) the weather says, “Red sky at night, sailors’ delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors (水手) take warning.” Is the saying true? It turns out that it is. A red sky at sunset may mean that there are clear skies to the west, where the sun sets. A red sky at sunrise usually means that the clear weather has already passed, so storms might be coming.
Forecasting the weather has been practiced for thousands of years. In the 5th century BC, the Greeks sent out forecasts to sailors. They used signs in nature to forecast the weather. But today, meteorologists send exact forecasts further in advance (提前). They use scientific instruments to study weather conditions around the world and make forecasts. Pilots, farmers and many other people depend on these forecasts. Luckily, most of us can simply look on the smart phone or turn on the TV to find out what kind of weather is coming.
If you are looking for some signs of the weather, pay attention to nature. There are two basic rules used in weather forecasting: Weather generally moves from west to east, and low air pressure (压力) usually means rain or snow. So pay attention to the signs. If rainbows form in the west at sunrise, the sun is on the way. Smell the flowers—their smells are stronger in wet air. What are the ants doing? Are they moving to higher ground? This could mean a drop in air pressure. Are the birds flying low or high? Falling air pressure may influence birds’ ears, so they fly low. And if the sky is red at sunset, you might plan a picnic for the next day!
5.What is the old saying about?
A.The beauty of sunrise. B.The night sky.
C.The signs of the weather. D.The sailors’ work.
6.What does the underlined word “meteorologists” mean?
A.The persons who give daily weather reports on TV.
B.The persons who carry out research on natural history.
C.The persons who take an interest in plants and animals.
D.The persons who do scientific studies of weather conditions.
7.How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph 2?
A.By listing the reasons for terrible weather.
B.By telling a true story about weather forecasting.
C.By introducing different ways of forecasting the weather.
D.By mentioning the difficulties in forecasting the weather.
8.What do we know from the last paragraph?
A.It’ll be sunny if ants move to higher places.
B.The smells of flowers are stronger in wet air.
C.Birds fly higher because of the low air pressure.
D.It’ll rain if rainbows form in the west at sunrise.
9.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To encourage people to get close to nature.
B.To express the need for weather forecasting.
C.To explain nature can tell us about the weather.
D.To discuss how important weather forecasting is.
Passage 1
Do you know hui nan tian (回南天)? This special weather happens in the south of China. It usually comes in spring when temperatures start to get warm and the air becomes much wetter in a short time.
Usually, before hui nan tian arrives, there are a few cold days with the temperature below 12 ℃. As the cold air goes away, warmer air quickly comes and the temperature goes up. Then there is a lot of water vapor (蒸气) everywhere. It turns into water drops when touching cold windows and walls. Also, wet days help bacteria (细菌) grow quickly and food often goes bad. Clothes are always wet. It can be dangerous when people turn on their televisions in such wet conditions, because electrical appliances (电器) are easy to break down. People will feel tired and sick during this time.
To help people live through hui nan tian, scientists say that people in the south should close their windows in the morning and evening. At the same time, don’t mop (用拖把拖) floors very often. It’s also useful to put newspapers on the floor or at the door to take in water and wet air.
1.How does the writer introduce the topic in Paragraph 1?
A.By telling a story. B.By counting numbers.
C.By asking a question. D.By explaining reasons.
2.According to Paragraph 2, during hui nan tian, which of the following is TRUE?
A.There is little water vapor on windows and walls.
B.People can’t turn off the TV.
C.People might feel uncomfortable.
D.Food hardly goes bad.
3.What does “It” refer to (指代) in Paragraph 2?
A.The weather. B.Water vapor.
C.The temperature. D.The south of China.
4.Which of the following is helpful to people when hui nan tian arrives?
A.Mopping the floor every day. B.Using newspapers to take in wet air.
C.Opening windows in the morning. D.Not leaving for work or school.
5.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Ways to Keep Houses Dry in Spring
B.Hui Nan Tian: Special Weather in South China
C.Different Weather in Southern China
D.Bad Sides of Wet Weather
Passage 2
Winter has come and cold weather covers China. When you go outside, cold wind blows hard and chills your face and other exposed parts. 1
Our skin has special nerve cells that sense temperature. 2 Researchers found this cell in 2002. It can sense cold temperatures from 10℃ to 30℃, and it also reacts to mint. 3 Once this cell is touched by cold, it sends messages to our brain, and we feel cold right away.
4 It slows down muscles and nerves to cut heat loss. Blood flow also becomes slower. The body reduces blood supply to skin, fingers and feet, so these parts turn cold first.
To raise body temperature, we start to shiver. 5 Shivering helps create heat inside our body. However, staying in freezing cold for too long is dangerous. If the body cannot keep normal inner temperature, people may get frostbite and hurt their bodies badly.
A.That’s why mint toothpaste makes our mouth feel cool.
B.A special cell named TRPM8 helps us feel cold.
C.Our body will take action to keep warm.
D.Let’s learn how human bodies feel and deal with cold.
E.Shivering helps create heat inside our body.
F.People often shiver because of coldness.
Passage 3
Scientists in the UK are surprised that so many flowers are in bloom (开花期) this winter. They said that in the usual years, between 20 and 30 kinds of flowers and plants are open. However, on New Year’s Day, scientists found 368 different kinds in bloom.
Scientists believe so many flowers are in bloom because of climate (气候) change. Last year was the warmest year in the UK. A scientist said, “Fifty years ago, it was difficult to find plants in winter. But it seems everything’s becoming different.”And he said some flowers were in bloom five months earlier.
Scientist Rich explained how the weather affects (影响) flowers. The flowers are usually killed by the cold in December. He said, “We are now in our fourth warm winter. Usually flowers go away by December but this year it hasn’t happened.” He added, “Many flowers are still in bloom now, after New Year’s Day.”
Britain’s weather report talked about the climate for last year. It said, “All months except (除……之外) August were warmer than usual years, and this was the warmest year on record for the UK. It was also wetter than usual years for many areas.”

In June 2026, a record-breaking heatwave swept across Europe, with temperatures reaching 44.3°C in parts of France.
This stable configuration prevents the high-pressure system from moving, allowing it to stay over the same area for days or even weeks.
4. 原句:This stable configuration prevents the high-pressure system from moving. A(电脑设置)、C(烹饪方法)、D(数学公式)均和气象语境无关。

Good evening and welcome to the evening weather report. I’m Jack White. Well, we’ll have quite mixed weather across our country tomorrow. Different parts of the country will experience quite different weather conditions.
A cold front (冷锋) is moving towards the north of the country. It may cause snowfall in that area tomorrow. In the evening, the wind might get stronger. There’s a strong chance that the snow will continue for a few days, so it’s time to get out your thick coats and gloves!
Another cold front is moving south-west across the country. It should arrive on the west coast during the day tomorrow. If this happens, we might see some cold winds and rain reaching the western and southern parts late tomorrow afternoon. The rain may last till Sunday.
On the east coast, we could see a slight rise in temperature tomorrow, from today’s high of 16℃ to as high as 18℃. But don’t get too excited! I’m afraid the mild weather won’t last very long. The cold weather may get to the east part on Sunday or next Monday.
Well, that’s all from me. I’ll see you at the same time tomorrow evening. Have a pleasant evening from all of us here!
1.What time is Jack White probably speaking?
A.7:00 a.m. B.12:00 a.m. C.4:00 p.m. D.8:00 p.m.
2.Which part of the country may be snowy tomorrow?
A.Northern. B.Western. C.Southern. D.Eastern.
3.How may the underlined words “mild weather” in Paragraph 4 make people feel?
A.Terrible. B.Comfortable. C.Sleepy. D.Cold.
4.What does Jack White do?
A.A guide. B.An actor. C.A host. D.A volunteer.
【答案】1.D 2.A 3.B 4.C
根据第一段“Good evening and welcome to the evening weather report.”
根据第二段“A cold front (冷锋) is moving towards the north of the country. It may cause snowfall in that area tomorrow.” 故选A。
根据第四段“On the east coast, we could see a slight rise in temperature tomorrow, from today’s high of 16℃ to as high as 18℃. But don’t get too excited! I’m afraid the mild weather won’t last very long.”
文中Jack White以“Good evening and welcome to the evening weather report. I’m Jack White.”
根据“A red sky at sunset may mean that there are clear skies to the west, where the sun sets. A red sky at sunrise usually means that the clear weather has already passed, so storms might be coming.”
根据“But today, meteorologists send exact forecasts further in advance (提前).”
根据“In the 5th century BC, the Greeks sent out forecasts to sailors. ... Luckily, most of us can simply look on the smart phone or turn on the TV to find out what kind of weather is coming.”
根据“Smell the flowers—their smells are stronger in wet air.”

【答案】1.D 2.B 3.A 4.C 5.E
