I have a great interest in cooking, because it brings me a lot of joy and a feeling of achievement.
When I first started my cooking journey, I was nervous. My hands were shaking, and I was afraid I would make the kitchen be in a mess. However, with my mom there guiding me step by step, I slowly got confidence and learned a lot.
One sunny day, I decided to try stir-fried eggs. I carefully picked up the eggs and broke them one by one into a clean bowl. Using a fork, I mixed them together. Next, I placed the pan on the stove, turned up the heat, and poured some oil into it. As the oil heated up, I poured the egg mixture into the pan. After a short time, the egg mixture began to change right before my eyes. I carefully moved the eggs around, making sure they cooked well. In no time, they turned into a beautiful, sunny yellow color. Finally, I added some salt and pepper to make it taste nice.
Cooking is far more than just preparing food. It’s a way to show my love for my family. Whenever I see the smiles on their faces as they enjoy the dishes I make, I have a warm feeling.
I would like to keep learning new recipes, looking forward to making even more delicious meals in the future!

① A good plan makes a good ending, so you should try your best to make a good plan before you do anything. Take a writing exam as an example. Before you start writing, you must know exactly how much time you have to finish the writing. So make sure you have a watch or can see a clock in the exam.
② Then, how much time should you spend on each part of a writing exam? Here is my plan. If I have forty minutes to finish a writing exam, I will divide it this way.
③Planning—twenty minutes. During this time, I will carefully analyze (分析) the topic. For example, if it’s an essay about a memorable trip, I’ ll think about the places I visited, the people I met, and the most interesting things that happened. I’ll make a simple outline to organize my thoughts.
④ Writing—fifteen minutes. With a clear plan in mind, I can write smoothly (顺利地). I’ll use proper words and sentences to express my ideas, and try to make my writing lively and attractive.
⑤ Checking—five minutes. In this period, I’ll check for spelling and grammar mistakes, and make sure my sentences flow (流畅) well.
⑥ Although I spend too much time in planning, a good plan is truly useful because it’s the key to success. It gives me enough time to know what I am going to write before I begin.
49. What is a must when you’re taking a writing exam according to Paragraph 1?
A. A clear mind. B. A good feeling. C. A watch or a clock. D. A mobile phone.

A. 7.5minutes. B. 15minutes. C. 22.5minutes. D. 30 minutes.
51. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Planning is not important in a writing exam.
B. Spending more time on writing is always better.
C. Checking for a long time can correct all mistakes.
D. A well-planned writing is more possible to succeed.
52. Which of the following shows the structure of the text?
A. ①/②③④/⑤/⑥ B. ①/②/③④⑤/⑥ C. ①/②③④⑤⑥ D. ①/②③④⑤/⑥
53. What is the main idea of the text?
A. How to wear a watch in an exam. B. How to divide time in a writing exam.

Hey, Captain Lim,
First of all, I would like to say that it is a great pleasure to be able to speak to an experienced pilot who knows what life is like in the sky.
I am a 13-year-old girl and for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a pilot. I would spend hours watching the planes at the airport take off from the runway. I love the feeling of packing my bags, traveling to some places that I have never explored (探索) before.
I just love airplanes and flying. The idea to fly people around the world always makes me excited. I’m just not sure if it’s the right job for me. My dad says I need to make a quick decision because now is the right time to start training. It’s true. I want to start early. It sounds funny, but I want to be young and energetic when I’m flying a Qantas Boeing 737, or even an A380!
I have so many questions about it—do you get paid well? I want to have a pretty good income (收入). I want to have a big family and house when I grow up. And it will need a lot of money. Is it fun? Is it safer than being a doctor or a teacher? Will I regret (后悔) it? I hate regretting things I’ve done. Is it really hard? I’m also a girl, so will I be looked down upon (轻视)?
And I would also like to know, if I definitely (明确地) want to become a pilot, where and when I should start training if I want to start early.
Thanks so much, Captain!

Mary Anne
