Volleyball became my sport for two reasons. Primarily, my parents wanted me to try out a sport that could make me enjoy workouts. I also knew that my mom loved playing it in Venezuela during her youth. I thought maybe I could feel the same. Indeed, I fell in love with it after just a couple of practices.
Between practices, I would stretch (伸出) my arms out, hold my hands together and push my wrists down to try to build muscle memory of the perfect platform. I would catch the ball, focusing on forming a triangular (三角形的) shape each time, with my right hand guiding the movement. Each time I’d release the ball upwards, I knew I was one try closer to getting it right. I worked tirelessly because I wanted to get better. I wanted to be great one day.
However, I lacked the head start most girls had. I started playing years after many other girls had. I was thrown into the deep end when the club where I practiced placed me on their most competitive team for my age group mid-season. Most of the girls did not welcome me. While this competition within and between teams was sometimes productive, it proved to be unhealthy. It was dangerous when it reached a tipping point. By the end of my freshman year of high school, I’d reached my breaking point.
Over four years, I only touched a volleyball a couple of times and only in casual settings. When the opportunity came to play with one of my best friends in a series of friendly matches, I hesitated. I eventually agreed, making it a point not to be so hard on myself. Volleyball finally brought the same enjoyment that had made me fall in love with it. I look forward to every opportunity I have to play now. I expect there will be more volleyball matches.

25. How is paragraph 2 developed?
A. By telling a story about her teammates. B. By explaining her training purpose.
C. By comparing different training methods. D. By listing specific actions and details.
26. What can be drawn from the author’s team experience?
A. It improved her skills quickly. B. It taught her to handle teammates.
C. It kept her away from volleyball. D. It proved that hard work pays off.
27. What does the text indicate?
A. Early practice guarantees better performance.
B. Joy returns when you ease up on yourself.
C. A strict coach makes a great player.
D. Pressure sometimes breaks a person.

For decades, a strange climate change has confused scientists: while Earth’s surface and lower atmosphere undergo continuous warming, the stratosphere, a layer (层) ranging from 11 to 50 kilometers above the ground, has been gradually cooling. This opposite temperature transformation is regarded as a typical fingerprint of human-caused climate change, yet the specific physical mechanism accounting for this phenomenon has long remained unsolved.
A recent study conducted by Columbia University researchers has thrown light on this core mystery. The root cause lies in carbon dioxide’s unique response to infrared (红外线) wavelengths. Unlike its heat-trapping property near the Earth’s surface, CO2 in the stratosphere has the opposite effect. It absorbs infrared heat rising from lower layers and releases a large amount of it into outer space. Rising CO2 concentrations greatly improve the stratosphere’s heat-reducing efficiency, resulting in steady temperature drops.
Scientists have recognized this general trend since the 1960s. Statistical observations indicate that the stratosphere has cooled by roughly 2℃ since the mid-1980s, a figure over ten times the natural cooling rate without human carbon emissions. Nevertheless, the precise process driving such cooling lacked solid theoretical basis prior to this research.
The research team identified a “Goldilocks zone” of infrared wavelengths. Wavelengths within this narrow spectrum (光谱) are absorbed to a right degree, allowing CO2 to release heat into space most efficiently. As CO2 builds up in the atmosphere, this functional spectrum expands, greatly speeding up stratospheric cooling. This discovery also explains why cooling is gentle at the stratosphere’s bottom but extremely strong near its top.
The study also shows a key atmospheric adjustment. A cooled stratosphere emits (释放) far less infrared energy. Though extra CO2 improves its heat-reducing capability, the lowered overall heat emission reduces Earth’s total heat loss to space, further augmenting the greenhouse warming effect in the lower atmosphere.
Despite minor limitations for ignoring partial atmospheric elements, the new research is of great value. It provides accurate physical evidence for long-term climate change patterns and offers new insights into exploring the atmospheres of other planets.
28. What can we infer from the first two paragraphs?
A. Global warming stops the stratosphere from heating up.
B. CO2 functions differently in various atmospheric layers.
C. The stratospheric cooling is unrelated to human activities.
D. Scientists have fully understood stratospheric changes for long.
29. What do we know about the “Goldilocks zone” of infrared wavelengths?
A. It allows CO2 to absorb heat best.
B. It contributes to stratospheric cooling.
C. It narrows as CO2 builds up in the atmosphere.
D. It demonstrates fixed stratospheric temperature.
30. What does the underlined word “augmenting” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Weakening. B. Balancing. C. Strengthening. D. Removing.
31. What is the scientists’ attitude towards the new study?
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Favorable.
D
In nature, muscles never work alone. They are closely connected with the nervous system, which allows living things to feel the weight and shape of the objects they touch. To copy this amazing ability in robots, however, scientists usually have to fix heavy, separate sensors onto moving parts. This traditional method not only makes robots heavy and slow, but also delays their reactions. Across industries like humanoid (人形的) robotics and medical devices, there has been a continuous demand for a new class of smart driving materials to overcome these challenges.
Recently, a research team has solved this problem by creating a new “smart muscle” that can move and feel at the same time. Inspired by human tendons (肌腱), the team put tiny liquid metal channels directly into a flexible material called liquid crystal elastomer (LCE). This single structure connects two parts with different material properties in series, performing the roles of tendon and muscle respectively. When electricity passes through the liquid metal, heat is generated, causing the material to shrink (收缩) like a real muscle.
More importantly, when the material changes its shape during movement, the paths of the liquid metal channels inside are also changed. This directly changes the electrical resistance of the system. By monitoring these small electrical changes, the system can sense its own strength and movement length immediately, without using any outside sensors. This clever design allows robots to process movement commands and sensory response within one single material, realizing physical intelligence.
During laboratory tests, robotic fingers equipped with these smart muscles gently picked up easily-broken objects without breaking them. Even better, by setting up two artificial muscles as a competing pair operating in opposite directions, the system could automatically determine the hardness and size of different objects based only on the electrical signals from the muscle itself.
This breakthrough is very helpful for making future humanoid robots and artificial limbs (假肢). The next challenge for researchers is to improve the structure and active cooling technologies to pick up the cooling speed of the artificial muscle, making the production process smaller for daily use.
32. What is the main limitation of traditional robots?
A. Complex power supply. B. High production costs.
C. Slower reaction speed. D. Hard structural materials.
33. Why does the author use “More importantly” in paragraph 3?
A. To highlight the sensing process. B. To introduce an up-to-date material.
C. To explain the cause of heat generation. D. To contrast human and robotic tendons.
34. What does the robotic-finger experiment prove?
A. The flexibility of soft materials. B. The clever design of the system.
C. The sensitivity of electric signals. D. The softness of natural objects.
35. What is the immediate challenge for the researchers?
A. Improving the muscle strength. B. Speeding up the heating process.
C. Producing robots for daily use. D. Downsizing the production process.

You may not consider yourself the patient type. Maybe your first-grade teacher pointed this out when you were pulling the door open before the bell even sounded. As a grown-up, maybe you press the “close door” button in the elevator many times. You’re not alone. ____36____
The time we save to get to our destination faster is not worth the price we pay for our health. As we all know, in traffic making rash decisions can send yourself and others to hell.____37____ A 2011 study, for example, suggests it may even be making us fat. If you want your satisfaction right now regardless of future benefits, you are going to have that extra dessert or that extra ice cream. ____38____ And if you’re constantly anxious, your sleep could be affected, too.
However, it’s not easy to be patient. The first thing to do is to recognize that you have a problem. ____39____ One of them is that your environment isn’t conforming (符合) to your expectations. Another is that you’re not conforming to your expectations of yourself.
There are all kinds of every-day situations that test patience. Once you’ve found that cause, though, it will be a lot easier to break the bad habit. Most importantly, once we understand what makes us impatient isn’t within our control, we can change the way we understand that situation. If you’ve made it, congratulations. ____40____
A. It will help us stay healthy.
B. You’re already on your way.
C. So learning to be patient is important.
D. Besides, being impatient could cause anxiety.
E. Impatience has become a sign of a troubled society.
F. Impatience usually happens during several situations.
G. In addition, there are plenty of links between impatient people and many health issues.

Some dishes, such as braised pork belly, are allowed ____62____ (cook) low and slow to release their full, slow-built depth of flavor, often finishing with a touch of sweetness that balances the heat. Food bloggers, some of ____63____ travel across Italy to review his menu, say that Chinese cuisine has introduced them to new ways of approaching food.
“Chinese cuisine is a powerful way to share our culture,” says Chen. Determined to stay true ____64____ the integrity of traditional flavors, he believes confidence in one’s culture naturally encourages foreign interest. “Authentic Chinese cuisine is more than food — it is a bridge between cultures,” another customer says. “It’s time to showcase more of China’s living traditions, allowing the world to see the true ____65____ (rich) of Chinese culture.”

The familiar smell of garlic, soy sauce, and onion spread through the air as I opened my lunch bag to see what my mom had packed for me. On any other occasion, I would have been delighted to eat my mom’s braised pan- fried tofu: a Chinese dish that I often ate for dinner. But not today, the day a nice girl had invited me, the new girl at school, to sit with her friends during lunch.
“Charis, over here!” My new friend was waving her arms, trying to get my attention.
As I prepared to walk over to the table, memories of elementary and middle school lunch times resurfaced. I remembered my embarrassment as my friends would hold their noses, or stay away from me when I brought homemade Chinese food, tofu. I remembered how my embarrassment shifted to anger when I complained about the smell to my mom.
I had argued with my mom that I wanted “normal” food for lunch. I remembered the look on my mom’s face, a mix between disappointment and confusion. But I was determined and she gave in because she worried about my making new friends every time we moved. So for the remainder of middle school, my mom packed odorless (无味的) , non-Chinese fare like ham and cheese sandwiches. However, that day, she was in a rush to get to her new job and packed me leftovers from dinner.
As soon as I got to my new lunch table, I tried to hide my bright lunch bag under my seat before anyone noticed the strong smell. I looked up to see the other girls at the table, opening their normal American lunches. I sat quietly, trying not to be noticed when Katrina, a new acquaintance, asked where my food was.
“I’m not really hungry,” I replied in an insecure voice. But Katrina had already seen me carry my lunch so she said, “Then, I’ll eat it!” The other girls laughed — apparently Katrina was known to be the lunch scavenger.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
I didn’t want to be rude to a new friend, so I reluctantly dragged out my lunch bag and unzipped it.

It took me a second to recognize that my homemade Chinese food was not being rejected.

Good morning, everyone. It’s time for our weekly health class. How many of you feel tired all the time? Raise your hands, please. Wow, there are a lot of hands. Doctors recommend that teens get at least eight to 10 hours of sleep each night. However, in practice, many teens struggle to make it. This is often due to a conflict between nature and modern life. During our teenage years, our body clocks tend to move forward. This natural change makes us want to go to sleep and wake up much later. However, as society usually demands we get up early, the key is finding a way to fall asleep earlier. Later on in the lesson, we’ll be talking about how stress and screen addiction can also impact our sleep. But first we’re going to study the ten, three, two, one sleep rule. This means that 10 hours before bed, you stop drinking tea, coffee and other energy drinks. Your meal of the day should be at least three hours before bed. Homework and other work should be completed at least two hours before bed. One hour before bed, you shut off all screens. These tips will help ready your body for sleep and help you drop off to sleep much more quickly.

B
24. Why did the author choose to play volleyball?
A. To find joy in exercise. B. To copy her mother’s experience.
C. To be a great player. D. To prove herself to others.
A 25. D 26. C 27. B
根据第一段中“Primarily, my parents wanted me to try out a sport that could make me enjoy workouts. (首先,我的父母想让我尝试一项能让我享受锻炼的运动)”可知,作者选择打排球是为了从锻炼中找到快乐。
25.推理判断题。第二段“Between practices, I would stretch (伸出) my arms out, hold my hands together and push my wrists down to try to build muscle memory of the perfect platform. I would catch the ball, focusing on forming a triangular (三角形的) shape each time, with my right hand guiding the movement. Each time I’d release the ball upwards, I knew I was one try closer to getting it right. I worked tirelessly because I wanted to get better. (在练习间隙,我会伸出双臂,双手交握,向下压腕,试图建立完美垫球平台所需的肌肉记忆。我会接住球,每次都专注于形成三角形,用右手引导动作。每一次将球向上垫出,我都知道自己离正确更近了一步。我不知疲倦地练习,因为我想变得更好)”可知,作者详细描述了练习排球时的具体动作细节,本段通过列举具体的动作和细节来展开。
26.推理判断题。根据第三段中“I started playing years after many other girls had. (我在其他许多女孩开始打球很多年后才起步。当我训练的俱乐部在赛季中期将我安排在他们同年龄段最具竞争力的队伍时,我就像被抛入了深水区。大多数女孩并不欢迎我。虽然这种队内及队间的竞争有时能带来进步,但结果证明它是不健康的。当这种竞争达到一个临界点时,它就变得危险了。到高一学年结束时,我达到了崩溃的临界点)”以及第四段中“Over four years, I only touched a volleyball a couple of times and only in casual settings. (在四年多的时间里,我只在休闲场合碰过几次排球)”可知,竞争激烈的团队经历让她远离了排球。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“When the opportunity came to play with one of my best friends in a series of friendly matches, I hesitated. I eventually agreed, making it a point not to be so hard on myself. Volleyball finally brought the same enjoyment that had made me fall in love with it.
C
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Favorable.
B 29. B 30. C 31. D
根据第二段“Unlike its heat-trapping property near the Earth’s surface, CO2 in the stratosphere has the opposite effect. (与地球表面附近的吸热特性不同,平流层中的二氧化碳具有相反的效果。)”可知,二氧化碳在不同大气层发挥不同作用。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段“Wavelengths within this narrow spectrum (光谱) are absorbed to a right degree, allowing CO2 to release heat into space most efficiently. As CO2 builds up in the atmosphere, this functional spectrum expands, greatly speeding up stratospheric cooling. (该窄光谱内的红外线能被适度吸收,让二氧化碳最高效地向太空散发热量。大气二氧化碳增多时,这一功能光谱范围扩大,大幅加速平流层降温。)”可知,红外波长的“Goldilocks zone”会促成平流层降温。
30.词句猜测题。根据第五段“Though extra CO2 improves its heat-reducing capability, the lowered overall heat emission reduces Earth’s total heat loss to space, further augmenting the greenhouse warming effect in the lower atmosphere. (尽管额外的二氧化碳提高了其减热能力,但总热量排放的降低减少了地球向太空流失的总热量,进一步augmenting低层大气的温室变暖效应。)”可知,热量散失变少,温室变暖会加剧,因此augmenting含义为“加强、增强”,对应Strengthening。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Despite minor limitations for ignoring partial atmospheric elements, the new research is of great value. It provides accurate physical evidence for long-term climate change patterns and offers new insights into exploring the atmospheres of other planets. (尽管该新研究因忽略部分大气元素而存在微小局限,但极具价值,为长期气候变化模式提供精准物理证据,也为探索其他行星的大气带来新思路。)”可知,科学家对这项新研究持认可、支持的正面态度。

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Para 1: I didn’t want to be rude to a new friend, so I reluctantly dragged out my lunch bag and unzipped it.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Para 2: It took me a second to recognize that my homemade Chinese food was not being rejected.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
I didn’t want to be rude to a new friend, so I reluctantly dragged out my lunch bag and unzipped it. The moment I partially lifted the lid, I could practically taste the garlic and soy sauce. I expected them to turn away — and turn me away. What I did not expect was for Katrina to instantly grab a small piece of tofu and eat it ravenously. And I most certainly did not expect for her to encourage the rest of the table to try my lunch.
It took me a second to recognize that my homemade Chinese food was not being rejected. In fact, it had become a source of personal pride. My new friends were going on about how lucky I was that my mom took the time to prepare a cooked meal for me. They were enchanted by the fact that tofu could actually taste good. While I didn’t get to eat any of my mom’s pan-fried tofu, I was full of pride and gratitude. When I arrived home, my mom noticed that the container was empty, she hesitated before asking, “How was the food?” I paused a moment before I replied, “Perfect.”

Dear Chris,
How’s it going with you? Learning that you are interested in our school’s Science and Technology Festival, I am thrilled to share some details with you.
The festival featured a variety of activities, ranging from science lectures to innovation competitions. The most distinctive part was the drone racing competition. Participants operated small sports drones through obstacle courses at high speed, showing the charm of this technological innovation.
This breathtaking activity left me in amazement. It made me realize the role technology plays in changing and enriching our lives and sparked my passion for exploring science.
Would you like to share some interesting activities held in your school? Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
I didn’t want to be rude to a new friend, so I reluctantly dragged out my lunch bag and unzipped it. The moment I partially lifted the lid, I could practically taste the garlic and soy sauce. And I most certainly did not expect for her to encourage the rest of the table to try my lunch.

Raise your hands, please. Wow, there are a lot of hands. Doctors recommend that teens get at least eight to ten hours of sleep each night. Later on in the lesson will be talking about how stress and screen addiction can also impact our sleep. But first we're going to study the ten, three, two, one sleep role. This means that ten hours before bed, you stop drinking tea, coffee and other energy drinks. Your last meal of the day should be at least three hours before bed. Homework and other work should be completed at least two hours before bed. One hour before bed, you shut off all screens. These tips will help ready your body for sleep and help you drop off to sleep much more quickly. Good morning, everyone. It's time for our weekly health class.
24. Why did the author choose to play volleyball?
A. To find joy in exercise. B. To copy her mother’s experience.

A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Favorable.
