Parents’ Career Lecture Activity
A special parent career-sharing activity has recently been held in our school, aimed at broadening students’ horizons and helping them learn more about various professions.
Invited parents coming from different fields, such as teachers, firefighters and army soldiers, delivered lectures in classrooms. They introduced practical work content, required professional qualities and future industry development based on their real-life career experience. Teachers and students listened carefully, took notes and exchanged ideas actively.
Through the activity, students have gained brand-new understanding of study. They come to realize that daily learning builds up strength for future career options, and every worthy job requires perseverance and a strong sense of responsibility.

The next morning, I found Penny outside the classroom. Her eyes were swollen, and she froze when I approached. “I... I need to explain,” she stammered, clutching her notebook. “I panicked about creating an original story. When I saw Sunny the Brave, I thought copying was the only way to impress everyone. I just couldn’t come up with ideas.” Her voice shook. I nodded, recalling Mom’s messy spice experiments and Dad’s careful measuring. “You don’t need to copy,” I said gently. “Look, I’m great at coming up with ideas, but you’re amazing at grammar and spelling. We have different strengths. What if we worked on a story together?”
Penny’s eyes widened with hope. She smiled and agreed eagerly. We spent lunchtime brainstorming. She organized sentences while I crafted the plot. By Friday, we presented our story to Miss Lisa. “Remarkable teamwork!” she exclaimed. “The creative ideas and polished writing balance each other perfectly.” Penny smiled at me, and I realized this was what critique truly meant — not just correcting mistakes, but mixing strengths to create magic. As we high-fived, I thought of Dad’s measuring spoons and Mom’s bold spices. Together, we’d made something far better than perfection.

One Saturday in December, Annacarin Elf, the head of operations at Gothenburg City Library, just happened to walk by her workplace. Noticing that the door was open, she entered the library, and was astonished to see the heartwarming scene that people were using it like on a regular day.
It was scheduled to be closed for the New Year holiday. The people in the library behaved as usual. Many were sitting reading newspapers, some families were in the children's section and others were searching for books on the computer.
It seemed that Elf's colleagues had simply forgotten to lock the door, and because this popular library is usually open on Saturdays. visitors just assumed they could walk in. Elf called to check with her staff team, before announcing to the people present that the library was about to close. Then she expressed her regret for what had been done wrong and caused them a problem. It later turns out that 446 locals visited the city library borrowing a total of 246 books during the day. What's remarkable is that people checked out their books through the library's electronic self-service system, and that to date, all the books have been returned!
Many Swedes have reacted positively to this uplifting demonstration of local respect for the library, a center that can be seen as a sign of the community, and what the locals did has strengthened their sense of belonging in their community.
Elf says, “Nothing was destroyed. It's amazing that Gothenburgers entered an empty library and treated and so lovingly.” The city leader has even suggested that this unusual Saturday serve as an accidental experiment to analyse the possibility of operating a totally automated library without staff.

A.People tend to show care for others. B.Life is always full of the unexpected.

William Blake once said, “Make the errors of a wise man, not the perfection of a fool.”
Last week, we received an email pointing out a few grammatical errors in our latest issue. It specifically targets a feature written by someone for whom English is a second, possibly even third, language. As a publisher, should we have caught those mistakes? Of course. But we didn’t. We missed them, and that’s on us.
Now, if we had relied on ChatGPT or some other AI tool — those errors would have been eliminated. AI doesn’t make grammatical mistakes, but it does make factual ones. And that’s where the difference lies. AI writes with mechanical fluency, an odd smoothness that, at first glance, might seem impressive. But there’s no soul in it. No human aspect, which is often where the charm and character of a story lie.
When you read Adventure, you’re not consuming an unimaginative, algorithmic mixture of facts and details, woven together from a thousand other sources. What you get is something raw, something real — real people doing real things, telling real stories — experiences lived and shared. That’s a distinction that matters.
In an era where fake news, AI-generated images, and even virtual sports clouds the lines between truth and fake information, we choose reliability over perfection. We own our mistakes. They’re the marks on an organic apple — imperfect but honest. Sure, you could buy a flawless, genetically modified apple, polished and sprayed to maintain perfection. It might look good but how would it taste? Would it nourish you the same way? Would it carry the same depth of flavour that comes from sun, soil and time?
Adventure isn’t about a perfect, polished version of the world. It’s about telling stories that aren’t smoothed to perfection but that pulse with life, with humanity.
So yes, we made a mistake, and we’ll probably make more, but we’ll own them. Because we’re not in the business of chasing perfection. We’re in the business of telling real stories, about real adventures, experienced by real people.
28.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “eliminated” in Paragraph 3?
A.Ignored. B.Removed. C.Resisted. D.Predicted.
29.What can we infer about stories from Adventure?
A.Soulless but honest. B.Imperfect but reliable.
C.Imaginary but charming. D.Artificial but impressive.
30.What is the author’s attitude toward AI tools being used in publishing?
A.Tolerant. B.Favorable. C.Disapproving. D.Unconcerned.
31.Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A.Errors of a Wise Man B.An Apology to Readers
C.Risks of AI in Publishing D.The Pursuit of Perfection
D
People’s views are becoming increasingly polarized, with social bubbles (茧房) deepening existing beliefs and widening opinion gaps. This polarization doesn’t just apply to political opinions; it also touches on factual topics, from climate change to disease prevention. According to a recent study, people use search engines in ways that confirm their existing beliefs, potentially expanding polarization. A simple adjustment to search algorithms (算法), the researchers propose, could help deliver a broader range of perspectives.
Online participants were asked to rate their beliefs on six topics, such as nuclear energy and the health effects of caffeine. They then chose search terms to learn more about each topic. The researchers rated the terms’ scope (范围) and found that between 9 and 34 percent were “narrow”. For example, when researching the health effects of caffeine, one participant used “caffeine negative effects” while others used “benefits of caffeine”. These narrow terms tended to match participants’ existing beliefs, and generally fewer than 10 percent did this knowingly.
“Search algorithms are designed to give the most relevant answers for whatever we type, which ends up strengthening what we already thought,” says Eugina Leung from Tulane University, who led the study. Similar results appeared when participants used ChatGPT. When researchers randomly assigned participants to view different results, they found that the results affected people’s opinions and even behavior. For example, participants who saw results about “caffeine (咖啡因) health benefits”, rather than “risks”, were more likely to choose a caffeinated drink afterward.
Pointing out biases in the search terms had only a small effect on people’s final opinions. However, changing the search algorithm to provide broader results helped reduce the effects of narrow searches. “People are able to bring in different perspectives when they’re exposed to them, which is encouraging,” Leung says. The researchers recommend applying such strategies, possibly as “search broadly” buttons. “This would be really helpful,” Leung says, but whether it will ever happen “is hard to predict.”
32.What phenomenon does the author point out in paragraph 1?
A.Search engines create social bubbles.
B.Public debates on factual topics become heated.
C.Opinions are increasingly divided on political issues.
D.Search habits are unknowingly expanding opinion gaps.
33.What is the feature of “narrow” search terms?
A.They involve broader ideas. B.They follow social trends.
C.They match popular beliefs. D.They strengthen established views.
34.What can we learn from the example given in paragraph 3?
A.Caffeine benefits people’s health.
B.ChatGPT provides objective information.
C.Search results may influence users’ choices.
D.Online searches reflect personal interests.
35.What is the researchers’ suggestion about?
A.Approaches to broadening search results. B.Choice of new research methods.
C.Techniques for identifying search biases. D.Necessity to involve more participants.
Most arguments are not actually about the thing people are arguing about, from unwashed dishes to workplace strategy disagreements. Underneath most conflicts is something much deeper: a need to feel heard, respected, safe, valued, or understood. Many high achievers struggle because they approach conversations the way they approach business: Solve the problem, make the point, and win the outcome.____36____
Because the moment someone feels emotionally cornered, the nervous system stops listening and starts defending. In other words, once people feel attacked, they’re no longer trying to understand you or considering your point of view.____37____That’s why many ordinary arguments always turn into horrible quarrels.
____38____When their confidence from certainty gets threatened, they start to feel unsafe. So their defense mechanism is to overexplain, defend harder, interrupt, and bring up past details. Ironically, the stronger the need to win the argument, the weaker the connection usually becomes. Negative behaviors like criticism and defensiveness are major causes of broken relationships, none of which include active listening.
Human beings are emotional before they are logical. Rising emotions activate the brain’s threat-detecting area, cutting off blood flow to the part responsible for reasoning and empathy, and their nervous systems prioritize survival protection over mutual communication.____39____
Healthy communication differs greatly from competitive arguing. It focuses on mutual understanding rather than one-sided victory. Giving emotional recognition to others does not mean you agree with their views.____40____A calm attitude and sincere listening build emotional safety, which is the foundation for long-term healthy relationships. Ultimately, people always remember the feelings a conversation brings rather than perfect logical arguments.
A.Many people become addicted to certainty.
B.Instead, they’re trying to protect themselves.
C.It does create a bridge and promote effective communication.
D.This is why even intelligent people may say things they regret.
E.People often ignore the importance of self-regulation in conflicts.
F.Tone and facial expressions also matter greatly in daily communication.
G.That strategy works great for negotiations but terribly for human connection.

The bell rang. I grabbed my backpack and headed to the library for my favorite after-school activity: Writing Club.
“Today we will share our stories with a critique (评论) partner. It means to give helpful feedback so someone can tell their best story,” said Miss Lisa, our writing teacher.
My partner was Penny. I handed my story to her, nervous. I had no problem coming up with great story ideas, but I did struggle with spelling and grammar. Penny didn’t look at me or smile as she pushed her story across the table toward me. Why was she worried? She always got perfect scores on her spelling and grammar tests.
I read her story. It was about a dog named Sunny saving a family from a flood.
“Wow, great story,” I told her. “I don’t have any suggestions. It’s perfect!”
“Yours too,” she whispered. She didn’t even look at me as she passed mine back.
When the club ended, Penny rushed out, dropping a book in haste. I picked it up: Sunny the Brave. My heart sank as the plot matched her story exactly. She hadn’t written it — she had copied it. It wasn’t fair. I thought about telling Miss Lisa, but Miss Lisa had already left.
Outside of the school, I spotted Penny sitting on a bench, crying. Instead of accusing her, I simply handed her the book. Seeing her tears, I remembered my job as her critique partner was to give helpful feedback. But what should I say?
I kept thinking about Penny and her story. When I got home, I found Mom in the kitchen making dinner with Dad. Dad chopped (切割) vegetables carefully, while Mom added spices (调料) freely. Their dinners turned out delicious. Mom and Dad had different skills, each using their strengths, making them a great team. That gave me an idea to suggest to Penny.

C
【答案】28.B 29.B 30.C 31.A
根据第二段中“Last week, we received an email pointing out a few grammatical errors in our latest issue.(上周,我们收到一封电子邮件,指出我们最新一期的一些语法错误。)”可知,最新一期《Adventure》出现语法错误被读者指出;根据第三段中“if we had relied on ChatGPT or some other AI tool — those errors would have been eliminated.(如果我们当时使用ChatGPT 或其他人工智能工具——那些错误就会被eliminated)”以及“AI doesn’t make grammatical mistakes(人工智能不会犯语法错误)”可知,划线词所在句运用了虚拟语气,是对过去情况的假设,指出AI本身不犯语法错误,当时如果使用人工智能工具,就能去掉原本存在的语法错误,eliminated表示“去除、清除”,与Removed意思最接近。
根据第四段中“What you get is something raw, something real — real people doing real things, telling real stories — experiences lived and shared. That’s a distinction that matters.(你得到的是一些原始的、真实的东西——真实的人在做真实的事情,讲真实的故事——生活和分享的经历。这是一个重要的区别。)”以及第六段“Adventure isn’t about a perfect, polished version of the world. It’s about telling stories that aren’t smoothed to perfection but that pulse with life, with humanity.(《Adventure》不是关于一个完美、经过修饰的世界版本。它是关于讲述那些没有被打磨至完美、却充满生命力和人性脉动的故事。)”可知,杂志《Adventure》的故事虽然不完美,但真实可靠。
30.推理判断题。根据第三段中“AI doesn’t make grammatical mistakes, but it does make factual ones. And that’s where the difference lies. AI writes with mechanical fluency, an odd smoothness that, at first glance, might seem impressive. But there’s no soul in it. No human aspect, which is often where the charm and character of a story lie.(人工智能不会犯语法错误,但会犯事实错误。这就是区别所在。人工智能以机械流畅的方式写作,这种奇怪的流畅,乍一看可能令人印象深刻。可文字毫无灵魂,缺少人文气息,而这份人情味,恰恰是故事独特韵味与风骨的来源)”、第四段“What you get is something raw, something real — real people doing real things, telling real stories — experiences lived and shared.(你得到的是一些原始的、真实的东西——真实的人在做真实的事情,讲真实的故事——生活和分享的经历。)”
【答案】32.D 33.D 34.C 35.A
根据第一段“According to a recent study, people use search engines in ways that confirm their existing beliefs, potentially expanding polarization. (根据最近一项研究,人们使用搜索引擎的方式会巩固他们已有的信念,这有可能会扩大观点分化)”可知,作者在第一段指出人们的搜索习惯会在不知不觉中扩大不同观点之间的分歧。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段“The researchers rated the terms’ scope (范围) and found that between 9 and 34 percent were “narrow”. For example, when researching the health effects of caffeine, one participant used “caffeine negative effects” while others used “benefits of caffeine”. These narrow terms tended to match participants’ existing beliefs, and generally fewer than 10 percent did this knowingly.(研究人员对这些搜索词的范围进行了评分,发现9%到34%的范围“狭窄”。例如,在研究咖啡因对健康的影响时,一名参与者使用了“咖啡因的负面影响”,而另一名参与者则使用了“咖啡因的益处”。这些狭窄的搜索词往往与参与者现有的信念相匹配,通常只有不到10%的人是故意这样做的。)”和第三段“Search algorithms are designed to give the most relevant answers for whatever we type, which ends up strengthening what we already thought(搜索算法的设计目的是无论我们输入什么内容,它都会给出最相关的结果,这最终会巩固我们已经固有的想法)”可知,这些狭窄的搜索关键词往往符合参与者已有的信念,会巩固人们已经形成的固有观点。
根据第三段“When researchers randomly assigned participants to view different results, they found that the results affected people’s opinions and even behavior. For example, participants who saw results about “caffeine (咖啡因) health benefits”, rather than “risks”, were more likely to choose a caffeinated drink afterward.(当研究人员随机安排参与者查看不同的搜索结果时,他们发现结果会影响人们的观点甚至行为。例如,看到“咖啡因对健康有益”而非“咖啡因风险”相关结果的参与者,之后更有可能选择含咖啡因的饮品)”可知,看到“咖啡因健康益处”结果的参与者之后更可能选择含咖啡因的饮料,这个例子是为了证明前面的观点,说明搜索结果可能会影响用户的选择。
35.细节理解题。根据最后一段“However, changing the search algorithm to provide broader results helped reduce the effects of narrow searches...The researchers recommend applying such strategies, possibly as “search broadly” buttons.(然而,改变搜索算法来提供更广泛的结果有助于降低窄搜索的影响……研究人员建议应用这类策略,可能可以做成“广泛搜索”按钮的形式)”可知,研究人员的建议围绕拓宽搜索结果的方法展开。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
【答案】36.G 37.B 38.A 39.D 40.C
上文“Many high achievers struggle because they approach conversations the way they approach business: Solve the problem, make the point, and win the outcome. (许多高成就者之所以挣扎,因为他们用处理工作事务的方式与人交谈:解决问题、亮出观点、争取赢下争论。)”介绍了成功者的沟通策略。后文“Because the moment someone feels emotionally cornered, the nervous system stops listening and starts defending. (因为当有人感到情绪走投无路时,神经系统就会停止倾听并开始防御。)”用Because引出原因,阐述这种沟通模式会让对方产生情绪防备,带来负面效果。G选项“That strategy works great for negotiations but terribly for human connection. (这种策略在商务谈判中十分奏效,但是对于人际交往却收效极差。)”中That strategy指代前文以输赢为目标的沟通方式,既肯定该方法在商业场景的价值,又引出人际交往中的弊端,自然衔接下文的原因解释,起到承上启下的过渡作用。
37.上文“In other words, once people feel attacked, they’re no longer trying to understand you or considering your point of view. (换句话说,一旦人们感受到攻击,就不会再试着理解你,也不会再顾及你的想法。)”写明人受到攻击后会放弃理性沟通。下文“That’s why many ordinary arguments always turn into horrible quarrels. (这就是日常口角常常升级为激烈争吵的缘由。)”点明最终结果。B选项“Instead, they’re trying to protect themselves. (相反,他们只会一心保护自己。)”形成语义转折,精准解释人们放弃理性思考后的本能行为,搭建起“放弃理解”与“争吵爆发”之间的逻辑链条。
38.下文“When their confidence from certainty gets threatened, they start to feel unsafe. So their defense mechanism is to overexplain, defend harder, interrupt, and bring up past details. (当他们对自己观点的确信受到挑战时,内心就会失去安全感,进而开启防御模式:反复辩解、强行反驳、打断对方、翻旧账。)”分析人们执着于确定性所产生的一系列过激行为。A选项“Many people become addicted to certainty. (许多人执着于自己观点的绝对正确性。)”是本段的主题句,能够统领整段内容,与下文核心词汇certainty前后呼应。
39.上文“Rising emotions activate the brain’s threat-detecting area, cutting off blood flow to the part responsible for reasoning and empathy, and their nervous systems prioritize survival protection over mutual communication. (情绪激动会激活大脑的危险预警区域,让负责理性思考与换位思考的大脑区域供血不足,人的神经系统会优先自保,不再进行双向沟通。)”从生理学角度解释情绪失控会让人丧失理智。D选项“This is why even intelligent people may say things they regret. (这就是即便是聪明人,也会说出让自己后悔的话的原因。)”中This指代前面大脑生理变化的原理,由生理原因推导出情绪失控导致言语失当这一结果,逻辑闭环完整。
40.上文“Giving emotional recognition to others does not mean you agree with their views. (给予对方情感上的理解与认可,并不等同于你认同对方的观点。)”先理清一个认知误区。下文“A calm attitude and sincere listening build emotional safety, which is the foundation for long-term healthy relationships. (平和的态度与真诚倾听能够营造情绪安全感,这是长久健康人际关系的基石)”讲述良性沟通的价值。C选项“It does create a bridge and promote effective communication. (但这种情感认可能够搭建沟通桥梁,推动有效交流。)”,前后两句形成转折关系,先说明情感认可不等于妥协,再点明它在沟通中的积极作用,完美衔接上下文语义。

【答案】
56.where 57.it 58.existed 59.remaining 60.adjusting 61.was referred 62.symbolically 63.by 64.recognition 65.to reconstruct
故填where。
故填it。
故填was referred。
故填by。
故填to reconstruct。

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
The next morning, I found Penny outside the classroom.

Penny’s eyes widened with hope.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

24.Why did Elf feel surprised after entering the library?

C.People came in without permission. D.It was used though supposed to be closed.

27.What does the author want to convey through the story?

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
The next morning, I found Penny outside the classroom.
