They were locally regarded as the best rock and roll band. The songs resonated greatly with many youths who could identify with their themes of love, world peace and growing up. It is their theme that I like about the band. What’s your favourite singer or band?

Paragraph 1:
He asked me questions about my orchestra and what pieces I liked to play as well. At the end of the tour, seeing my envious look at the instruments, the owner picked up a lower-end, but still worth at least a million dollars’ violin and asked me to have a try while he held it. I played it very carefully. Having enjoyed my performance, he proudly said, “Wonderful! You have such a great gift for it. I hope you can stick to your dream and become a famous violinist in the future.” I listened to his words with a smile, moving tears rolled down my cheeks. Moments later, I left the shop without even remembering his name, my passion for the instrument kindled.
Paragraph 2:
I don’t remember his name at this point, but I am very grateful to him. I’m so glad that he ignored my dad’s bad manners and lack of social awareness and decided to take the time out of his occupied day to show a non-customer without appointment around. His warm behavior inspired me to continue loving and pursuing my instrument after high school! I still play the violin to this day, and I’ve picked up some other instruments along the way, too. I will never forget the violin of the shop owner.

Sheila Metzner: From Life
This exhibition celebrates the artistic skill of the internationally respected American photographer Sheila Metzner. In my ninth-grade writing class last year,I met a cowboy who saved his town,a strict father who demanded his son earn straight A’s,and a modern-day Juliet who died of heartbreak after her parents rejected the love of her young life. More than once,I found myself wondering just how my students, who’d created these people, knew their subjects so well.
But things were different for their first essay, which was about the question: “Why is writing important?” Most of the essays filled less than one page, and few contained a sentence that could be interpreted as a thesis(论点) statement. I was shocked. Then I realized that the problem was the question itself. They could have written pages on the necessity of computers, but writing,in and of itself, simply didn’t strike them as important. This would have to change.
As a new unit started,I asked everyone to write a persuasive piece on a health-related topic of their choice. This time they found the exercise much more interesting. For the next two assignments,a personal-narrative unit followed by a creative-writing workshop,I only required that the piece meet the specifications of its genre(体裁) and that it contain a thesis. The results were staggering. The students took on diverse topics and turned in stories,10 to 20 pages each, with characters that broadened my view and touched my heart.
I walked into class believing that writing is important as a means of communication. However,my students demonstrated something more important to me. When the final bell rang in June,I walked away with a yearbook full of messages about writing’s most powerful significance—the ability to connect people,to put us in another’s skin,to teach us what it means to be human.
24.Who are the people mentioned at the beginning of paragraph 1?
A.Ninth graders. B.Students’ parents.
C.Modern writers. D.Fictional characters.
25.Why did the students perform poorly in writing their first essay?
A.They were not given enough time. B.They had a very limited vocabulary.
C.They misunderstood the question. D.They had little interest in the topic.
26.What does the underlined word “staggering” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Mixed. B.Amazing. C.Similar. D.Disturbing.
27.What does the author’s experience show?
A.Teaching is learning. B.Still waters run deep.
C.Knowledge is power. D.Practice makes perfect.

Festivals are meant for music, dancing, and celebration — not for leaving behind piles of rubbish. While this idea has long been a shared belief among festival-goers, the reality often tells a different story. Festivals like Coachella and Stagecoach produce about 214,000 pounds of waste a day, and only a fifth of it is recycled.
The carefree feeling at festivals — where people try to escape everyday duties — can sometimes lead to careless habits, like throwing things away without thinking. But this also gives us a chance to help people change how they act. If festival-goers learn to take responsibility for their impact on the environment while they’re there, they might keep those good habits when they return home. “That’s why we need festivals that show what a clean, waste-free event can look like,” says Heather White, founder of One Green Thing. “If people’s attitudes don’t change, even strong government rules won’t solve the problem.”
This idea finds its purest expression in Norway’s Oya Festival. As Norway’s largest outdoor music festival, Oya is recognized as Europe’s Greenest Festival. First, nearly all of the 22,000 attendees travel to the festival by public transport or bike, which removes the biggest source of pollution at most festivals-travel. Second, while UK festivals burn about 100 million gallons of diesel fuel every year, Oya runs almost entirely on clean energy. This is possible because more than 90% of Norway’s electricity comes from renewable sources like water and wind. Finally, to reduce plastic waste, Oya forbade single-use plastics in 2019. Nearly all food packaging is turned into a renewable fuel after the festival. About 60% of the festival’s total waste is recycled, which is about three times the rate at Coachella.
Oya proves that it’s possible to have fun while protecting the environment. But one green festival alone can’t fix the planet’s problems. Only when the whole music industry works together can we expect festivals with pure joy and no pollution.
28.Why are the two festivals mentioned in paragraph 1?
A.To compare their musical styles.
B.To show how fun festivals can be.
C.To introduce popular music events.
D.To give examples of wasteful festivals.
29.What’s important for green festivals, according to Heather White?
A.Government measures. B.Festival-goers’ feeling.
C.People’s attitude change. D.Careless environmental habits.
30.How does the author show the effectiveness of Oya’s measures?
A.By giving expert advice. B.By making comparisons.
C.By listing government rules. D.By telling an inspiring story.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Oya is the only green festival in Europe.
B.The music industry needs to join hands.
C.Pure joy is hard to achieve at music festivals.
D.Oya Festival has completely got rid of pollution.

For centuries, what makes human creativity so precious is not only the final products it yields, but also the effort behind their creation. But in a world where AI can generate anything with the click of a button, how do we distinguish what truly matters? How does human-made art survive?
Throughout history, the most famous works of art, literature, and music have carried a sense of labor, dedication, and mastery. We don’t just admire the end product; we admire how it came to be. Masterpieces like Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” sustain not simply for their artistic beauty, but for the human stories they carry. They remind us that art is not just about beauty or skill — it is about intention, persistence, and what makes us human.
As AI floods the world with instant beauty, we’re entering an era of “aesthetic inflation”, where perfectly composed images, poetic style, and movie-like storytelling are available to anyone, instantly and at no cost. This makes us think about when beauty is effortless and endless, does human creations still have value?
But human imperfection isn’t a weakness — it’s part of who we are, shaping our understanding of humanity. Our struggles, mistakes, and limitations aren’t just difficulties to overcome — they’re part of what gives life meaning. In this light, AI’s ability to create perfect art feels almost unnatural—a rejection of the struggle that gives creativity its weight. It may achieve technical perfection — but at the cost of the original energy that makes art stir feelings within people. Even at its most impressive, AI-generated art often feels empty. It has no real emotions or experiences, and no clear creator, failing to create unexpected surprises and arouse shared emotion with audience.
Therefore, to preserve meaning, selection and context become more crucial. As AI can produce endless content, the human elements like context, narrative and the reasoning behind art become the true value source. Also, AI can be a creative collaborator rather than a replacement, refining ideas while keeping human imperfection and feeling, and acting as an amplifier (放大镜) of human vision.
32.Why do masterpieces like “Starry Night” remain valuable in the AI era?
A.They represent unique human characteristics.
B.They showcase brilliant artistic creation skill.
C.They are created through long production processes.
D.They contain human emotional depth and creative effort.
33.Why does the author mention “aesthetic inflation” in paragraph 3?
A.To demonstrate AI’s efficiency in art creation.
B.To prove that AI-generated art is more affordable.
C.To criticize the overuse of technology in art creation.
D.To stress the devaluation of beauty due to mass production.
34.How does the author develop the argument in the passage?
A.By giving examples. B.By giving definitions.
C.By making comparisons. D.By making classifications.
35.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.A Guide to Perfect Art with AI
B.How to Create Art in the Age of AI
C.Why Human Art Still Matters in the AI Age
D.A New Revolution in Art Creation brought by AI

How do you feel about exams? 36 On the contrary, is it an experience you enjoy because it’ s your time to shine? Every year, many young people sit exams and whether they love or hate them, most of them will face some anxiety before the big day.
If you’ re anxious about your exams, don’ t worry. You’ re not alone. 37 When the pressure is on to pass that all-important test, take a deep breath and absorb some good advice from people who’ve been through the same experience as you.
38 Nutritional therapist Kerry Torrens recommends making breakfast the most important meal of the day. She recommends eating energy-giving oats and eggs. Some research even suggests students who take water into the exam hall may even improve their grades.
One thing I know I always need is a good night’s sleep to help me work and think better the next day. 39 If you get good sleep your memory is better and that means you can retain the information you have revised.
According to Lisa Artis from the Sleep Council, sitting on your bed when you’re cramming is not a good idea because then you associate that place with stress. Revising for exams can also sometimes seem cruel, so it’s good to take breaks and reward yourself with a small treat, like a cake or a quick run around the block. There comes a point when your brain can’t absorb any more information. 40
A. However, your brain is free of tiredness.
B. Is it the one thing you are frightened of?
C. Thus, you’ll also need to know when to stop.
D. Is it the only thing that you are really keen on?
E. Eating the right food can feed your brain and keep you energetic.
F. It might seem like a stressful time for everyone in the same situation.
G. And that’s what’s recommended for anyone preparing for their exams.

Liu Wenwen, 33, is the first suona (唢呐) player to study for a doctor’s degree. On China’s social media platforms, her name is often followed by a video of her live 41 at a concert in Sydney, Australia.
Born into a suona family, Liu Wenwen was 42 to play it at a very early age. In the 1990s, China’s reform and opening-up drive was in full swing, and people admired things that were modern and international. Suona, 43 , was considered an art of the hillbilly (乡巴佬). Her classmates at primary school 44 her, saying her whole family was engaged only in “weddings and funerals (丧礼)”. Indeed, these are the two major 45 where suona is played in the countryside. I took a trip to visit New York with my dad after graduating from high school. One of the places on his list for us to visit was a “rare violin shop” since I played the violin all four years and participated in the honor orchestra as well. We made our way down the crowded streets and eventually stopped in front of a tall building.
This building was not what I pictured when I heard “rare violin shop”. I’d been imagining a street-level shop, open to the public, with some interesting and old violins on display, maybe with a luthier(拨弦乐器制作匠)in the back. As we walked inside, took the elevator to the sixth floor, and stood in front of what appeared to be a private condo(公寓的套房),I knew something felt off. I voiced my concern to my dad as he rang the doorbell but was ignored. My dad had never been great at interpreting(解读)social standards.
We were greeted by a receptionist who asked if we had an appointment, since they were by appointment only. I wanted the ground to swallow me whole and I was instantly aware of the sweaty, summer tourist clothes we had on. My dad eagerly told them that no, we didn’t but, “my daughter plays the violin with her high school orche- stra and isn’t that great? And we would love to just go inside and browse! Don’t mind us!”
The receptionist gave him a strange look but took it in stride (泰然处之) and excused herself to talk to someone behind a door. She came back with the owner, a well-dressed man, who told us that since he had no other appointments right now, he would love to give us a tour!
The starting price for a violin here, we found out, was 10k. He showed us around a very private feeling and swanky(时髦且豪华的)looking condo, pointed out a room where he casually mentioned he would chat with Joshua Bell when he came by, and opened the most interesting two person safe I’ve ever seen to show me several multi-million dollar violins.

Sheila Metzner: From Life
This exhibition celebrates the artistic skill of the internationally respected American photographer Sheila Metzner. Her unique style integrates aspects of Pictorialism and Modernism to create an aesthetic (美感), which not only stands out in the history of photography but also becomes very closely associated with the best of 1980’s fashion, beauty and decorative arts trends.
William Blake: Visionary
A remarkable printmaker, painter, and poet, William Blake (1757 — 1827) developed a very wildly unconventional world view. Eugène Atget: Highlights from the Mary & Dan Solomon Collection
Acclaimed as the most important 20th-century photographer, Eugène Atget took new artistic ground. Walking at dawn with his heavy camera, he photographed the old Paris and its surrounding areas by focusing on its old alleyways, shop fronts, architectural details, staircases and street sellers.

A
Influential Art
Sheila Metzner: From Life
This exhibition celebrates the artistic skill of the internationally respected American photographer Sheila Metzner. Her unique style integrates aspects of Pictorialism and Modernism to create an aesthetic (美感), which not only stands out in the history of photography but also becomes very closely associated with the best of 1980’s fashion, beauty and decorative arts trends.
William Blake: Visionary
A remarkable printmaker, painter, and poet, William Blake (1757 — 1827) developed a very wildly unconventional world view. By combining his poetry and images on the page through unique drawing techniques, Blake created some of British art’s most striking and lasting imagery. This major international loan exhibition explores the artist-poet’s imaginative world through his most celebrated works.
Alfredo Boulton: Looking at Venezuela (1928 — 1978)
Alfredo Boulton was one of the most important intellectuals of the 20th century in Latin America and an influential photographer of the modern period. Through his large collection of works, Boulton generated a new cultural definition of Venezuela. This exhibition explores Boulton’s wonderful photography, his relationships with modern artists and his influence on the formalization of art history in his country.
This focused exhibition features highlights from the artist’s work, which continues to influence quite a few photographers today.

根据Sheila Metzner: From Life部分“Her unique style integrates aspects of Pictorialism and Modernism to create an aesthetic”以及Alfredo Boulton: Looking at Venezuela (1928 — 1978)部分“Through his large collection of works, Boulton generated a new cultural definition of Venezuela”,可知,两人都在各自领域塑造了独特的艺术表达方式。
Eugène Atget: Highlights from the Mary & Dan Solomon Collection部分“Walking at dawn with his heavy camera, he photographed the old Paris and its surrounding areas by focusing on its old alleyways, shop fronts, architectural details, staircases and street sellers”,可知,他的摄影主要聚焦于巴黎的古老街巷、店面、楼梯和街头商贩等城市街景。
根据William Blake: Visionary部分“By combining his poetry and images on the page through unique drawing techniques”,可知,他将诗歌(文字)与图像结合在同一页面上,因此适合研究文字与图像关系的人参观。
B
【答案】24.D 25.D 26.B 27.A
根据第一段内容尤其是“More than once,I found myself wondering just how my students, who’d created these people, knew their subjects so well. ”可知,第一段中提到的牛仔、严厉的父亲和现代版的朱丽叶都是作者的学生在写作中创造出来的虚构人物。故选D项。
25.推理判断题。根据第二段中“They could have written pages on the necessity of computers, but writing,in and of itself, simply didn’t strike them as important. ”并且结合第三段中“This time they found the exercise much more interesting. ”可推知,学生们在写第一篇作文时表现不佳,是因为他们认为写作不重要,即对写作这个话题本身不感兴趣。故选D项。
26.词义猜测题。根据画线词下文“The students took on diverse topics and turned in stories,10 to 20 pages each, with characters that broadened my view and touched my heart. ”可知,学生们选取了各种不同的话题,写出了内容丰富、打动人心的故事,这与最初的表现形成强烈对比。由此可知,画线词“staggering”意为“令人惊叹的,惊人的”,与B选项意思一致。故选B项。
27.推理判断题。通读全文,并根据最后一段中“However,my students demonstrated something more important to me. . . the ability to connect people,to put us in another’s skin,to teach us what it means to be human. ”可知,作者在教导学生的同时,自己也领悟到写作的真正意义,这一过程体现了“教学相长”的理念。故选A项。
C
根据第二段 Heather White 的原话 “If people’s attitudes don’t change, even strong government rules won’t solve the problem”,足以说明在她看来,游客自身观念与态度的转变才是关键。
根据尾段 “Only when the whole music industry works together can we expect festivals with pure joy and no pollution” 可推知,打造绿色音乐节需要全音乐行业携手合作。
D
根据第二段“Masterpieces like Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” sustain not simply for their artistic beauty, but for the human stories they carry...it is about intention, persistence, and what makes us human”可知,经典艺术杰作经久不衰,不仅在于技艺与美感,更源于背后的创作付出、人文故事与情感内核。
根据第三段“aesthetic inflation, where perfectly composed images...are available to anyone, instantly and at no cost”可知,AI可以批量、免费、快速产出完美艺术作品,让美感变得唾手可得,造成审美价值贬值,这也是作者提出“审美通胀”的核心用意。

I still remember the first time I came across a sunmao structure. Standing before a magnificently crafted ancient wooden building, I was told that it contained no nails — a fact that seemed almost impossible (believe). How, I wondered, could such a structure hold together any metal nails?
The answer lies in sunmao, a technique (originate) about 7,000 years ago, with the earliest examples uncovered at the Hemudu site in Zhejiang. At its core, sunmao involves shaping two pieces of wood so that one slides precisely into other, creating a joint of remarkable strength. (astonishing), many sunmao structures prove stronger than those built with metal bolts. Shanxi’s Pagoda of Fogong Temple, for instance, (survive) for the past nine centuries over 40 earthquakes and 200 bombardments, standing today as the world’s oldest and tallest wooden structure.
Far from being a relic of the past, sunmao continues to inspire modern innovation. From phone cases designed for easy disassembly to packaging reducing plastic waste, new expressions of this ancient wisdom (present) before people’s eyes. Scientists are even exploring its potential for lunar base construction — a project that would undoubtedly make those ancient craftsmen proud.
Perhaps what strikes me most, however, is not how incredible and exquisite the technique itself, the spirit hidden behind it: a commitment to precision, patience, and the quiet (pursue) of perfection that transcends time. It is a reminder that true craftsmanship lives on in every generation, the spirit finds new carriers willing to carry it forward.
