Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition Opens in Singapore
What is the exhibition about?
Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a large-scale digital art exhibition that brings the Post-Impressionist master’s works to life through projections, sound and interactive technology. It returns to Singapore with a notable new feature.
What is the key new feature?
A dedicated AI Studio has been added. Visitors can type a text prompt, such as “sunflowers under a starry sky,” and an artificial intelligence algorithm will instantly generate a unique digital image in Van Gogh’s distinctive style of brushstrokes and colors. This image can then be projected alongside the artist’s classic works. “It’s about participation, not just observation,” notes a curator (策展人).
What are the main sections of the experience?
·Digital Galleries: Walk through rooms surrounded by animated projections of paintings like The Starry Night and Sunflowers.
·AI Studio: Create and display your own AI-generated Van Gogh-style artwork.
·VR Journey: Use virtual reality headsets to explore the landscapes of Arles, France that inspired Van Gogh. Please note: The VR section has a separate queue and may require additional waiting time.
What are the dates and prices?
·Dates & Venue: 15 November 2025-15 May 2026, Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
·Ticket Price:
Adult (18-64): S$ 32 (Weekdays) /S$ 38 (Weekends)

Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, is famous for its lively summer festival and moody gothic architecture — but a short break here offers plenty more besides. This walkable city packs unforgettable experiences into a single day, from literary trails to fine dining and historic pubs.
8 a.m.: Explore the old town
Craft your own literary trail starting in the Grassmarket. Climb the Miss Jean Brodie Steps to view Edinburgh Castle framed by narrow lanes, and then wander into Greyfriars Kirkyard, a 17th-century cemetery. Sharp-eyed Harry Potter fans will spot familiar names on gravestones, including ones that inspired You-Know-Who.
11 a.m.: Dive into the past
Across from the cemetery is the National Museum of Scotland, whose galleries cover time and continents with a focus on Scottish history and culture. Don’t miss Alexander Graham Bell’s original telephone and a Trainspotting screenplay signed by Ewan McGregor. For a different experience, visit Surgeons’ Hall, which showcases Edinburgh’s medical history.
2 p.m.: Head for the river
After morning culture, take a short tram from Princes Street to Leith, which holds a quarter of Scotland’s Michelin-starred restaurants, including Tom Kitchin’s The Kitchin. Its lunch menu features seasonal Scottish fare, such as the lobster from just three bus stops down the coast, which tastes all the better for it. Little wonder Welsh himself is a regular.
7 p.m.: Drink up

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been making our lives easier in many areas, from automating tasks to extracting information from big data files. However, not everything AI does is in our best interest. AI password cracking has also increased because AI can hack (破解) passwords in seconds.
A recent report led by Rahul Mahna’s team from the University of East London found that an AI password cracker called PassGAN could crack any seven- digit password in less than six minutes — even if the passwords contained symbols, numbers, and capital and lowercase letters. Additionally, the AI cracked 51% of these usual types of passwords within a minute, 65% within an hour, 71% within a day and 81% within a month. After seeing these worrying results, you’ll undoubtedly take online security more seriously.
How can you protect your passwords from these hackers? Mahna suggests the following methods to help you protect yourself against hackers.
Unique passwords everywhere
Mahna emphasizes having different passwords for each website, device or service. Don’t worry about remembering all these passwords, since password managers can not only store your passwords but can also generate unique combinations for you.
Long passwords
Using long passwords that include numbers, capital and lowercase letters and symbols — and are not easily understood or inferred — will enhance the protection element.
Personal privacy
Posting too much information online — like on Facebook or Instagram — about your life is not a good idea if you’re concerned about security. It can provide information about your location, valuables and family.
If you assume you’ve been hacked, don’t scan for viruses or change passwords until you have disconnected from the Internet. The best way to handle an attack is to prepare in advance, like changing your passwords frequently.
1.What do we know about the AI password cracker PassGAN?
A.It secures large data files. B.It attacks passwords quickly.
C.It protects online accounts. D.It generates unique passwords.
2.How can we protect our passwords from being attacked?
A.Remember all of our passwords. B.Limit personal information online.
C.Create passwords related to family. D.Use a password for most websites.
3.What should you do first if you are attacked by a hacker?
A.Scan the device for viruses. B.Change the passwords rapidly.
C.Reset the password manager. D.Cut off the Internet connection.
2.(2026·河北唐山市高三第一次模拟)
Most passwords are still weak. A study by Specops found that 98.5% of real-world passwords are objectively weak. Only 1.5% of passwords made it into the “strong” zone, defined as being at least 15 characters long and using two or more character types. Only 3.3% of passwords were longer than 15 characters. This means that most passwords can be cracked quickly using inexpensive powerful computer tools.
The most common passwords were eight characters long with just two character types, such as “Summer22” or “Office99”. About 8% of all passwords fell into this dangerously basic zone. Close behind were eight-character passwords with only one character type, most often letters alone, and in many cases lowercase letters only. These accounted for another 7.6% of all passwords.
When password length is held constant, security depends largely on the variety of characters used. The table below illustrates this effect.
Character set
Size of set
Total combinations
How long to crack?
15 characters password of lowercase only (a-z)
26
2615~1. 68×1021
Easily cracked with powerful tools in days or weeks
15 characters password of lowercase + uppercase (a-z, A-Z)
52
5215~2. 53×1025
Much harder to crack, but still possible over time
15 characters password of alphanumeric (a-z, A-Z, 0-9)
62
6215~7. 70×1026
Very strong passwords for most practical use cases
15 characters password of all printable characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9, symbols)
94
9415~2. 25×1029
Nearly impossible to crack
In addition to character variety, password length also plays an important role in security. Using passwords of 16 to 20 characters with at least two different character types-letters, numbers, or symbols-pushes the number of possible combinations into the trillions. Even high- end cracking farms would take years or centuries to break them. In reality, however, weak passwords are still very common. As Darren James, Senior Product Manager at Specops, notes, “Many users are still low-hanging fruit for online thieves, who can crack their passwords in seconds.”
21.What percentage of passwords are the most common type?
A.1.5%. B.3.3%. C.7.6%. D.8%.
22.What is the main factor the table compares?
A.The size of set. B.Use of letters.
C.The cracking method. D.Password length.
23.Why does the author quote Darren James?
A.To introduce his company. B.To warn the online thieves.
C.To stress the worrying reality. D.To criticize users for poor choices.

When it comes to choosing a new destination to explore, some travelers are content to pick locations close to home, while others are willing to go to the ends of the earth. Here are some remote destinations that few people will have the chance to experience.
Tristan da Cunha
The island of Tristan da Cunha is set in the south Atlantic Ocean, 1,743 miles east of Cape Town, South Africa. Home to just 246 people, the island is an active volcano and its main town, Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, was nearly destroyed in 1961 following an eruption. Travelers hoping to experience Tristan need to plan in advance, as permission from the Administrator and Island Council is required to visit.
Ittoqqortoormiut, Greenland
The small settlement of Ittoqqortoormiut, Greenland, is set between Northeast Greenland National Park and Scoresby Sund, the world’s largest national park. Its 450 residents live in brightly painted wooden houses that sit on permafrost, locked in nine months of sea ice and total darkness each winter. The village can be accessed only by helicopter or boat. There are varieties of wildlife in this region, including polar bears, narwhals, and walruses.
Longyearbyen, Norway
It is located about halfway between Norway and the North Pole, and has become a destination for travelers hoping to see both the northern lights and polar bears. Longyearbyen, a town of around 2,000 people, is dotted with colorful houses dating back to its heyday(鼎盛期)as a mining town. The region is completely dark for two-and-a-half months every winter, and the sun shines 24/7 in the summer.
Grise Fiord, Nunavut, Canada
Located on Ellesmere Island, Grise Fiord, or Aujuittugin Inuktitut, is the northernmost settlement in Canada. The Inuit village of 141 people is located in the Arctic Cordillera mountain range, and visitors can take in the area’s various wildlife, including narwhals, seals, beluga whales, walruses, musk oxen, and polar bears.

The International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) is a competition for pre-university students, held in a different country each year since 2003. It challenges participants, both individually and in teams, to solve linguistic (语言学的) puzzles. To compete at the IOL, no special knowledge is required, only basic language concepts, logic, patience, and creative thinking. Try this beginner sample to see if the IOL is right for you.
A PuzzleThe names of some South American countries are written in Georgian (格鲁吉亚语) with their English translations:
Brazil
Peru
Uruguay
Q: What is the English name of this country “”?
The Solution●The Georgian forms of “Peru” and “Uruguay” have the same number of letters as their English names, showing a direct letter match.
●The repeated U in “Uruguay” further confirms Georgian is written left-to-right.
●“Brazil” has fewer letters than the Georgian version, but thanks to the two other names, we already know: →R, →A, →G, →E.
●With these letters, the pattern can be translated as “A R G E _ _ _ _ A, ” which is “Argentina. ”
Contest Rules
● Each individual contestant or team must choose a working language for their problems and solutions, a choice that cannot be changed less than two weeks before the Olympiad begins.
● The individual contest involves solving five problems in six hours, whereas the team contest features one problem with two hours less.
● Unless instructed, giving multiple answers will receive zero marks. Besides, a detailed explanation is required for each answer; failure to provide one will result in a lower score.
Awards
The team contest will award up to one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. In the individual contest, the number of gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded shall be in the ratio 1: 2: 3, with the total number of medals being between one quarter and one third of the contestants. Click here to find out other awards.

How High-Rises Shaped Modern Britain
Eyesores and dangerously unsafe? Or ideal housing for the working classes? Holly Smith tells the stories behind some of the UK’s most revolutionary homes — buildings that have deeply shaped modern Britain, mixing novelty, success and painful debate.
Kensal House (1936, west London)
Co-designed by Maxwell Fry and Elizabeth Denby, it was intended for working-class families between the two World Wars, when modernist homes for the rich were already popular. It offered bright, spacious flats with private balconies, labour-saving kitchens and public gardens. Managed by residents with strict rules, it was a pioneering model that inspired thousands of estates later — completely distinct from the dark, crowded and poor areas people had to live in before.
Ronan Point (1968, east London)
This poorly built tower collapsed just two months after opening: a small gas leak on the 18th floor destroyed a whole wing, killing 5 people and hurting 17. Its concrete panels were piled up without a strong internal frame, and its joints were even filled with old cement (水泥) bags and wrinkled newspapers. The public shock exposed widespread structural faults in high-rises, though hundreds of such blocks still lack proper strengthening today.
Trellick Tower (1972, west London)
In sharp contrast, this high-rise is a masterpiece by Hungarian architect Ernö Goldfinger. It used top materials like marble lobbies and stained glass, as the designer believed high-rises could “free the ground for gardens” and set high standards for public housing — turning homes from just simple shelters into spaces where people could express their lives fully.
Cascades (1988, east London)
This flashy postmodern tower dominates the Thames, mixing ocean liner elegance and old storehouse solidity while taking inspiration from local marine history. Nicknamed “Yuppie Towers,” it was the first private luxury high-rise here, with a pool and a gym. It created a clear contradiction: social housing high-rises are seen as signs of poverty, while new luxury ones stand for success.
1.What can we learn about Ronan Point from the text?
A.Its structural faults led to a tragic accident.
B.Its construction featured sustainable materials.
C.Its design targeted luxury housing for the rich.
D.Its failure helped completely address similar faults.
2.What do Kensal House and Trellick Tower have in common?
A.They served as ideal examples.
B.They provided private gardens.
C.They were built with top materials.
D.They were under strict management.
3.How does Cascades reflect the evolution of British high-rises?
A.Postmodern designs replaced modernist ones.
B.Luxury facilities became standard for high-rises.
C.They shifted from public housing to private luxury.
D.Postmodernism became the mainstream design style.

TCM Olfaction Diagnosis Meets Modern Sensing TechnologyTCM Olfaction Diagnosis
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), with a history of thousands of years, uses four main methods for diagnosis. Among them, olfaction diagnosis, diagnosis by smell, known as “Wen Zhen”, plays a vital role. It involves assessing a patient’s health by noticing smells from their breath or body. However, this method has long depended heavily on the doctor’s personal experience, which can lead to inconsistent results and makes it difficult to measure precisely.
Modern Tech’s Transformation
Modern technology is now transforming this long-standing challenge. Scientists have found that human breath contains a variety of minute chemical substances known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These VOCs, when captured and analyzed by modern detecting devices, form a unique digital “breathprint” for each individual — a specific profile of VOCs. This profile can reflect the body’s health conditions, which corresponds with the core principles of TCM olfaction diagnosis. By analyzing the breathprint, the subjective art of traditional olfactory diagnosis can be converted into objective and measurable data, laying a solid foundation for its scientific standardization.
Future prospects
With the help of VOC detection methods and artificial intelligence (AI), TCM smell diagnosis is becoming more scientific. AI can analyze complex VOC data to recognize TCM patterns and even point out possible problems in certain body systems with much greater consistency. Although challenges remain, such as setting standards for breath sample collection and clearly defining TCM patterns, integrating ancient TCM wisdom with modern science keeps the value of traditional TCM while giving it a new scientific foundation. This combination is expected to make TCM diagnosis more standard and open up new opportunities for healthcare development around the world.
1.Why is VOCs analysis adopted in TCM Olfaction Diagnosis?
A.To focus on serious diseases. B.To make diagnosis more objective.
C.To apply artificial intelligence. D.To replace traditional methods.
2.In which step is the “breathprint” formed?
A.Sample Collection. B.VOCs Detection.
C.Data Processing. D.Results Analysis.
3.Where is the text probably taken from?
A.A TCM guidebook. B.A medical exam paper.
C.A patient care brochure. D.A medical technology journal.

AI-powered grids optimize energy use, storing surplus solar power during peak hours and reducing reliance on fossil-fuel backups.
SOLAR PANELS — Rooftop Revolution
Solar energy is the most accessible renewable source for households. Advances in photovoltaic cells have cut costs by 80% since 2010, making them viable in numerous regions.
WIND TURBINES — Community Microgrids
Small-scale turbines (涡轮机) in windy areas can power neighborhoods, though land use debates persist. “The scale of this transition is staggering,” says Dr. Elena Torres, a climate scientist at MIT. Residential renewables like solar and heat pumps could meet 90% of global household demand by 2050 — but only if investments triple within this decade. Recent studies show that every $1 invested in green homes today saves $5 in future climate adaptation costs. This isn’t just an environmental imperative; it’s economically inevitable.
1.Which two categories combined account for over three-quarters of total household emissions?
A.Electricity and Heating. B.Heating and Cooling.
C.Appliances and Lighting. D.Cooling and Appliances.
2.Which technology is highlighted as cost-effective for diverse climates?

Passage 5
【新情境·科普应用文】(2026届福建泉州市高中毕业班质量检测(一))
Composition of E-Waste
Nowadays, e-waste is one of the world’s fastest-growing waste streams. Waste electronics contain harmful substances like lead and mercury, posing serious environmental and health risks.
However, e-waste also represents a valuable “urban mine”. It holds an estimated 31 million tonnes of metals, 17 million tonnes of plastics, and 14 million tonnes of glass. One tonne of circuit boards can contain up to 800 times more gold than a tonne of gold-bearing rocks. Despite this, less than 1% of rare earth elements are recycled.
Recycled e-waste is a valuable resource for sustainable manufacturing (制造业). Its metals, e.g. gold and copper, are reused in electronics, vehicles, and renewable energy systems. Recovered plastics find new life in durable products, while glass is processed into building materials. This circular (循环的) approach cuts energy use, reduces mining demand, and transforms waste into industrial resources, supporting both the economy and the environment.
The e-waste management market is projected to more than double by 2027. While 81 countries have adopted Extended Producer Responsibility laws, collection rates still fall behind policy goals.
To improve recycling, governments should strengthen EPR laws, and invest in facilities. Institutions can promote research and public awareness. Individuals should properly drop off e-waste at collection points, fix items rather than throw them away, and support brands with strong environmental commitments.
1.What percentage do screens and cables account for in all e-waste compositions?
A.12%. B.14%. C.17%. D.60%.
2.What is a key advantage of e-waste compared to natural mines?
A.It contains a greater variety of rare elements.
B.It provides more recoverable non-metals.
C.It can be richer in precious metals.
D.It works better as building materials.
3.What is suggested for individuals to help recycle e-waste?
A.Invest in formal recycling facilities.
B.Launch public awareness campaigns.
C.Set clear personal take-back plans.
D.Choose repair over replacement.

1.【2021年全国乙卷】The Biggest Stadiums in the World
People have been pouring into stadiums since the days of ancient Greece. In around 80 A.D., the Romans built the Colosseum, which remains the world’s best known stadium and continues to inform contemporary design. Rome’s Colosseum was 157 feet tall and had 80 entrances, seating 50,000 people. However, that was small fry compared with the city’s Circus Maximus, which accommodated around 250,000 people.
These days, safety regulations-not to mention the modern sports fan’s desire for a good view and comfortable seat—tend to keep stadium capacities(容量) slightly lower. Even soccer fans tend to have a seat each; gone are the days of thousands standing to watch the match.
For the biggest stadiums in the world, we have used data supplied by the World Atlas list so far, which ranks them by their stated permanent capacity, as well as updated information from official stadium websites.
All these stadiums are still funtiona1, still open and still hosting the biggest events in world sport.

·Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, Michigan, U. S. Capacity: 107,601. Opened: October 1, 1927.
·Beaver Stadium, State College, Pennsylvania, U. S. Capacity: 106,572. Opened: September 17, 1960.
·Ohio Stadium, Columbus, Ohio, U. S. Capacity: 104,944. Opened: October 7,1922.
·Kyle Field, College Station, Texas, U. S. Capacity: 102,512. Opened: September 24, 1927.

2.【2021年天津卷第二次】When starting college, most students enjoy a week's stay on campus before classes actually begin. What should you do with that time? Below are several tips to ease(使熟悉) yourself into college life.
Participating in Campus Welcome Activities
Most universities host welcome events before the academic year officially begins, including freshmen orientations (迎新会),campus picnics, and entertainments like concerts.
Participating in such events is a great way to learn about school facilities and understand campus culture: What do students do for fiin? What are their favorite classes? What is the history of your university? It can help you observe campus life outside the classroom.
Exploring Campus
Getting to know where essential campus resources are—such as the student advising center, psychological services, and the tutoring center~~will make your first few weeks on campus a lot easier, because you won't have to look for them while still getting used to your classes.
Take some time to check out the buildings where your classes will be held. This will prevent you from getting lost in the first few days of classes, and familiarize you with how long it takes to get from place to place. If you're worried about taking classes one after another in different buildings, a quick test run won't hurt. That way, you will avoid potential time delays in getting to your classes.
Starting a Routine
Before getting too excited about all of the fun things you will be able to do during the week, remember that you do have a pretty big schedule change coming up. Starting classes means being in different places at different times, so it’s a great idea to start getting used to that routine right this week.
What helps you most is to schedule your sleep. Following the planned time will ensure you have enough sleep to get to those early classes and stay wide awake.
If you have other daily routines, such as exercising or talking on the phone with family, work those into your day-to-day life before classes start so that you get a better idea of how they fit in with your schedule.

Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition Opens in Singapore

7 p.m.: Drink up
No Edinburgh day is complete without a pub stop, and the New Town has great options. Sherlock Holmes fans should seek out The Conan Doyle, a historic pub near the author’s birthplace. Step inside and enjoy a refreshing local ale or whisky to wind down after a busy day of exploration.
1.Which place will fantasy fiction lovers want to visit?
A.Princes Street. B.Surgeons’ Hall.
C.Greyfriars Kirkyard. D.The New Town.

【答案】1.B 2.B 3.D

【答案】21.D 22.A 23.C

【答案】1.A 2.A 3.C

故选A项。
3.细节理解题。根据Cascades部分“This flashy postmodern tower dominates the Thames, mixing ocean liner elegance and old storehouse solidity while taking inspiration from local marine history. Nicknamed “Yuppie Towers,” it was the first private luxury high-rise here, with a pool and a gym. It created a clear contradiction: social housing high-rises are seen as signs of poverty, while new luxury ones stand for success.

【答案】1.B 2.B 3.D

Four Books Worth Recommending
Driving the Green Book
From 1936 to 1967, the Green Book served as an annual travel guide for African Americans. Award-winning broadcaster Alvin Hall first learned about the Green Book in 2015, and he was immediately attracted. Several years later, he set out on a 2,000-plus-mile cross-country road trip from New York to New Orleans. The result, Driving the Green Book, is a 288-page journey along America's open roads, exploring the country's racial past and detailing the Green Book's life-saving history.
The Last Ride of the Pony Express
In 2019, American journalist Will Grant went on a 5-month, 2,000-mile journey on horseback from Missouri to California. His goal was to follow the historic route of the Pony Express. Grant records his 142-day adventure in The Last Ride of the Pony Express, describing his trip in the company of his two horses, Badger and Chicken Fry.

【答案】1.B 2.C 3.D
