Dinosaurs may have first evolved close to the equator, not in the south of the southern
hemisphere()as previously thought.A modelling study suggests they originated in a region
that covers what is now the Amazon rainforest, the Congo basin and the Sahara desert.
Dinosaurs evolved about 250 million years ago, when all the continents were joined into a
single supercontinent, with its middle straddling()the equator.Though the oldest known
dinosaur fossils are from southern parts of South America and Africa about 230 million years
ago, they are distinct enough to suggest that dinosaurs had already existed on Earth for a few
million years."There must have been a lot going on in terms of dinosaur evolution, but we just
don't have the fossils,"says Joel Heath, leader of the study at University College London.
To learn more,Heath and his colleagues built several dozen versions of computer models to
take into account uncertainties such as gaps in the fossil record, possible geographic barriers and
so forth. Most of these simulations concluded that dinosaurs first appeared near the equator,
with just a minority supporting the southerly origin.
"Palaeontologists have tended to assume that dinosaurs couldn't have originated near the
equator,"says Heath,"partly because there are no early dinosaur fossils from that region.
There are lots of areas in the globe that are quite neglected.Fossils might not be exposed in a
way that we can easily study them.
However,a piece of evidence in support of Heath's idea has recently emerged.Researchers
found the oldest known dinosaur from the northern part of the supercontinent. The fossil dates
back to 230 million years ago."If dinosaurs were already in the north and south that long ago,
the equatorial middle can't have been closed off to them, says Heath."They have to have been
crossing that region.

The integration of AI tools in medical check-ups has reached a key stage.A major study
published in Nature Medicine(2025)shows that doctors using AI tools detected breast cancer in
6.7 cases per 1,000 checks-a 17.6%improvement over old methods.Conducted across 12
German hospitals with 461,818 people, this research provides the strongest proof to date on AI's
real-world value.
Led by Prof.Alexander Katalinic, the study had a special design:doctors could choose
when to use AI during check-ups.In 260,079 Al-assisted checks, the tool not only found more
cases, but also made results more exact.Lab tests following AI-aided checks confirmed
cancerous cells in nearly two-thirds of cases (64.5%),compared to 9.2%without AI-a seven
times higher accuracy."This beats our initial goal of proving AI is not worse than humans,"said
co-author Stefan Bunk, highlighting the success of human-AI teamwork.
However, the study found key problems.Doctors spent 47%less time on scans marked
"normal"by AI (16 seconds vs.30 seconds),raising concerns about trusting AI too much.
"Faster checks might miss underlying issues, warned expert Dr.Lena Muller. The study also
found income-related differences:wealthier patients used AI tools more often, possibly making
healthcare gaps worse.
To address these issues,the team proposes a three-step approach.First,all AI-marked
"normal"scans must be double-checked by medical professionals.Second, governments should
fund AI tools in public hospitals to ensure equal access.Third, doctors are required to complete
yearly training courses on AI's technical limits and bias detection.
As Prof.Ben Glocker notes,"This is about building a partnership-AI finds patterns,while
doctors care for the whole patient."With breast cancer cases expected to rise 42%by 2040,such
tools could redefine preventive care.
5.What made the research special?
A.Doctors decided the timing of using Al.
B.It involved hospitals in different regions.
C.Doctors focused on breast cancer detection.
D.It compared AI performance across age groups.

A.AI has no value in check-ups.
B.AI can replace human doctors.

7.What problem does the study mention about faster scanning with AI?
A.AI use could lead to too many false alarms.
B.Doctors may become too dependent on Al.
C.AI tools may not be as accurate as human doctors.
D.Rushing checks with AI could miss hidden problems.

What is the main purpose of the three-step approach?

选项。
5
Patience is a virtue because it cultivates inner strength and sound judgment. In a world that
6
often feels rushed and demanding, the ability to wait calmly and tolerate delays really empowers
us to make clear-headed decisions.9 Thus it can prevent us from making choices in a hurry
8
that could have negative consequences.
9
With patience,we're able to handle challenges with a level head.It helps us to focus on
10
long-term goals rather than short-term setbacks.Things can't always go according to plan.
11
10 It gives us the strength and determination to remain optimistic.Cultivating patience
12
allows us to appreciate the process of growth and helps us handle difficulties with grace.
13
11 But we can remain calm, peaceful, and happy regardless.Patience plays its most
important role in our interactions with people. With patience,we don't explode at people easily.
We work on gathering more information and looking for a solution instead.
Another important key to patience is gratitude.Instead of focusing on what we want right
now,we focus on being grateful for what we already have. When we are grateful for what we
have,we improve our ability to be patient.12 If you resist this, you suffer. That suffering
creates more impatience. But if you accept that one of the guarantees of life is change, you will
relax.
Patience is being present, examining your options, and working to move forward. If things
work out, then great. But if they don't,then we try something else. It's just that simple. There
is so much good in developing the virtue of patience. It takes work,it takes effort, but there are
so many benefits of developing patience.13
A.It's necessary to make early plans.
B.However,we must realize that life changes.
C.This promotes a great sense of achievement.
D.Patience may not always give us what we want.
