A Media literacy (is finally getting some late-arriving attention.Whether it's the increasing awareness of political disinformation or the threat of Al,discussions about media literacy are on the rise. The adoption of media literacy in the classroom, however, stagnates. The driving force for providing kids with media literacy skills often gets lost in the moral panic over technology and kids.Fear has overrun reason, and people can't decide whether to blame social media, mobile devices, tech companies,or the Internet. They are concerned with claims that technology and social media are the causes of teenage mental health issues despite the weak associations. In response, too many solutions are“ostrich policies(鸵鸟政策)”that want to ban devices and shut down social media but don't address more fundamental issues. Policies that set age limits on social media access and restrict devices during school to minimize disturbance can be helpful but are incomplete solutions.Social media didn't invent bullies()or the enormous effect of peer pressure.Social media platforms may be a new battleground, but they are not the source.Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges. There is frighteningly little attention paid to preparing kids to make good decisions when they will, unavoidably, get online. On the bright side, the rapid development of AI and increasing attention to the amount of misinformation online have helped normalize the acceptance of media literacy as a core skill. While suggestions to limit inappropriate device use, increase face-to-face socialization, and engage in outdoor play are beneficial, they do not build the core skills that will keep kids safe offline and are fundamental to well-being and life success:good citizenship,self-awareness and self-control.Those things take teaching, whether you are online or outside. Media literacy is an essential life skill that, once learned, can be applied to any content. While waiting for public education to catch up,parents and educators can build media literacy skills at home with numerous resources, ranging from family technology contracts and discussion guides to easy activities that can be done at home with kids. 1.What does the underlined word "stagnates"in the first paragraph probably mean? A.Advances significantly. B.Initiates officially. C.Underperforms substantially. D.Collapses suddenly. 英语·周测卷(九)第1页(共4页) 9 广鱼跃龙中秦 2.What causes people's moral panic over technology and kids? A.Belief in the rapid growth of new technologies. B.Concern over cutting kids off from the Internet. C.Inability to balance the use of social media and health. D.Fear of technology causing mental health issues in teenagers. 3.What does paragraph 3 focus on? A.The sources of peer pressure. B.The problems of current policies. C.The benefits of minimizing disturbance. D.The disadvantages of social media platforms 4.Which of the following belongs to media literacy? A.Reducing social media exposure. B.Evaluating media content critically. C.Increasing face-to-face interactions. D.Creating the dangers of social media. B Like other cities in New Jersey's Rust Belt(铁锈地带),Paterson has fallen on hard times, with its once-famous textile()industry in disrepair and its schools abandoned. Strickland,an expert in school design and instructor at MIT in Boston, had been hired as a consultant to help Paterson find sites for new schools. The architect hatched a grand plan to help revitalize()Paterson's schools and the city itself. Six career academies are holding classes at old sites. These small changes have not gone unnoticed. The city,as the residents expected, has the potential to shine. A nearly unoccupied three-story shopping mall houses two schools, one focused on medical careers, the other on media arts and urban planning.English and math teachers for the two schools lead classes in storefronts that were empty just a year ago.Across town, under the thick wooden beams()of an old textile factory and a train engine plant, students with disabilities will learn about careers with the region's transportation systems. Strickland requires his graduate students at MIT to help Paterson construct models for new building projects in the city.Jane Riesman, one of Strickland's students, has been working with her kids on an educational park that would replace a wasteland of lifeless asphalt()and grass that stretches between two downtown schools. The surrounding neighborhood is hardly inspiring;pulling-down of a high-rise housing project is underway, showering dust everywhere. But Strickland's students envision a very different place. One of the student models includes a swimming pool, skating court, climbing wall, sandbox, and a pond with a fountain and lots of trees."It's fun,and it makes us feel like we're in charge and helping the community,"says 15- year-old Marilyn Medina, one of the model's creators. Strickland says it's important for the students to dream."They're setting a tone for the town,"he says."The kids can push the envelope and change the culture." 5.What was Paterson like in the past according to paragraph 1? A.It fell into severe disrepair. B.It rarely produced any iron. C.Its textile industry was well-known. D.Its schools were completely deserted. 英语·周测卷(九)第2页(共4页) 班级 6.What was the residents'attitude towards Strickland's plan? A.Opposed. B.Favorable. C.Dismissive. D.Uncaring. 7. What can we infer about Strickland's students? 姓名 A.Diligent and innocent. B.Funny and responsible. C.Honest and adaptable. D.Imaginative and helpful. 得分 8. What does the text mainly talk about? A.Transforming old buildings to shine. B.Revitalizing the city's shopping mall. C.Developing students'logical thinking. D.Witnessing the rise and fall of Paterson. 第二节(共5小题;每小题6分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选择题 答题栏 选项。 Copenhagen is a beautiful city that attracts a large number of tourists, especially during the 1 summer. While tourism is great for the economy,it also has an impact on environment. In order to change that, tourists can participate in green activities like picking up litter, using public 3 transport,or biking around the city.9 4 This project is called CopenPay and it is being trialed this summer.10 The project was 5 introduced by Copenhagen's official tourism organization to get tourists to act more sustainably. 6 While many tourists express the desire for eco-friendly travel, very few have changed their 7 behavior. 8 11 It will reward green actions including taking part in clean-ups or volunteering at an 9 urban farm. The project is trust-based,so it is unlikely that the venues will ask for proof but 10 some may request a photo of you doing a green activity or a train ticket. 11 There are 24 participants in the pilot program, including museums and urban experiences for 12 tourists to participate in.There are several places offering free ice cream or coffee for taking 13 public transport.Visitors to the National Gallery who bring plastic waste can participate in a workshop to turn the trash into a piece of art.12 There are free tours at the Cisternerne underground art hall if you walk or bike to the venue. Maybe none of these small activities will make a huge impact on the environment. However, small things do make a difference.13 Besides, tourists can bring an important souvenir home from their vacation. A.They will change people's attitudes. B.Few tourists show interest in this project. C.Tourists can choose to take public transport. D.CopenPay hopes to help bridge the gap in this way.
