Blue Lagoon (湖) Malta Preserving Ecosystem with New Booking System
Malta Tourism Authority, in cooperation with the Tourism Ministry and other authorities, launched a new visitor booking system from Thursday, aimed at preserving and protecting the delicate ecosystem of popular tourist spot Blue Lagoon and enhancing visitor experience.
During the summer months, especially peak hours, Blue Lagoon recorded up to 12,000 visitors 2024. The new booking system will reduce traffic by 2/3, limiting access to Blue Lagoon to 4,000 visitors at any one time.
Operating under the motto “Book, Protect, Enjoy,” this initiative is part of a broader two-year sustainability effort. Over the course of 2025, visitors to Blue Lagoon can expect to see:
·Safer, extended swimming zones
·Improved waste management
·Additional cleaning facilities
·Increased enforcement (实施)
The booking system is free and accessible via bluelagooncomino.mt. Visitors arriving by private or commercial ship must reserve a time period to access the area. Three time periods are available each day:
·08:00-13:00
·13:30-17:30
·18:00-22:00
Upon booking, visitors receive a unique QR code and wristband, which must be presented to coastal and land entry point officials. Additional staff will be present during the initial launch to help guide visitors unfamiliar with the new system.
21.What is the primary goal of the new booking system?
A.To increase the financial gains. B.To reduce environmental damage.
C.To raise the working efficiency. D.To attract more international tourists.
22.What can visitors to Blue Lagoon enjoy in 2025?
A.Increased shopping chances. B.Cleaner places for swimming.
C.Enhanced garbage treatment. D.More equipment for recycling.
23.What must visitors do to enter Blue Lagoon under the new system?
A.Book online and present a QR code. B.Arrive before the chosen time periods.
C.Confirm the reservation with the staff. D.Reserve a time period by paying ahead.

Some are taking up knitting (编织). Others are growing flowers or going fishing. These days, such hobbies are no longer old-fashioned. For Gen Z has decided that the pastimes of retired people are rather pleasing.
According to Eventbrite, a global events marketplace, baking and bingo are on the rise. In Britain attendance at flower-arranging classes almost increased four times between 2023 and 2025; in America there were two and a half times more puzzle competitions.
“Grannycore” — as youngsters call the trend as the traditional art taste — is not limited to entertainment. Gen Zers respect their elders’ taste in home decoration and fashion. Some are even holidaying like old people: Gen Z and millennials (千禧一代) are just as enthusiastic about cruises (游轮度假) as retirees, according to the Cruise Lines International Association. On TikTok youngsters were against the idea that “cruises are for old people” and say they are “the most convenient way to travel”
Why do the young seem so old at heart? Gen Z “really embraces the old things” and wants to experience things “they never got to experience”, says Rudi Greenberg, Eventbrite’s head of management and trends. Psychologists call such desiring “anemoia”: in an era of flashy screens and endless apps, youngsters look through rose-colored glasses at such dull things as repairing an old pair of socks, or meeting weekly to craft or embroider (刺绣).
Martina Vintaloro, the founder of London Creative Gals, notes that 90% of attendees come alone to meet “like-minded girls”. On a recent mid-week evening they were longing to get off their phones, gathered to paint pottery, many slowly enjoying soft drinks not wines.
In such environments, socialising can feel “slower, a little more grounded”, argues Mr Greenberg, perhaps a reminder of “conversations with your Grandma”. The hobbies can also improve well-being: “Happiness from One Stitch (针) at a Time”, a course run by psychologists, praises the healing advantages of knitting. As one fan of the old-timey trend recently put it: “Grandmas’ ideas actually make sense.”
24.What is the main idea of paragraph 2?
A.“Grannycore” has become a worldwide fashion trend.
B.Statistical evidence proves the rise of old-style hobbies.
C.Eventbrite is committed to promoting traditional pastimes.
D.British and American youth share the same hobby preferences.
25.What does the underlined word “anemoia” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.A desire for past experiences one has never had.
B.A protest to modern digital technology.
C.A love for traditional handmade activities.
D.A preference for elders’ decoration and fashion.
26.Why do members of London Creative Gals enjoy craft gatherings?
A.To keep up with the latest “Grannycore” fashion.
B.To learn professional crafting skills from experts.
C.To completely stay away from social media pressures.
D.To make like-minded friends and seek mental relaxation.
27.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.Cruises are less appealing to retirees than Gen Z.
B.Gen Z has given up using digital devices entirely.
C.Traditional hobbies help promote Gen Z’s mental well-being.
D.“Grannycore” only covers entertainment and fashion fields.

As the UK government starts dealing with the need for a social media ban (禁令) for under-16s, it is clear we may act too late on chatbots (聊天机器人). AI, like social media before, will greatly affect health and society, such as how young people learn and make friends, yet the government is taking a “wait and see” approach.
At a meeting with social media leaders last week, the authority said current rules for children using social media platforms “can’t continue”. It’s high time to act. Australia started a social media ban for under-16s, with France, Spain and others following. Meta and Google were fined $6 million for promoting habit-forming apps harmful to young users’ mental health. Research clearly connects these apps with some mental problems and self-harm, and many doctors and parents have also spoken out in support of the ban.
Even if acting on social media, the government will fall behind on AI chatbots. These bots take advantage of people’s mental weaknesses quickly and badly, causing wrong ideas or great sadness. For example, they can keep chatting with users all day, making it hard to stop using them. Some say controlling AI limits business, but clear rules are needed. Currently, no one in government is responsible for these rules, which must change.
The UK’s Online Safety Act doesn’t include AI, as it only controls human interactions. The government can fix this by making companies take responsibility for bots’ harm. Big companies will fight against it, but Australia’s example shows they will follow clear, fair laws.
The authority must name who is in charge of AI rules. A team with government and industry experts should issue safety rules regularly. These rules can help stop bots from spreading false information or hurting users. Otherwise, digital managers could control bots’ power over millions like pressing a button, risking our mental health. AI is changing how we learn, think, interact, work and spend free time faster than we know. It is important to act now before it is too late, so it must not hurt national governments or personal health.
28.What problem does the author point out in the first paragraph?
A.AI control may fall behind. B.AI’s value is underestimated.
C.Teens’ mental health worsens. D.Social media are harming teens.
29.Why does the author mention countries like Australia?
A.To suggest the ban is ineffective. B.To illustrate they manage AI well.
C.To prove online apps are harmful. D.To show the ban is widely accepted.
30.What do we learn about the UK’s Online Safety Act?
A.It catches up with AI growth. B.It lacks sufficient control over AI.
C.It follows Australia’s example. D.It fails to protect children online.
31.What does the author suggest on AI management?
A.Security guidelines should be required. B.False information should be limited.
C.Public health should be emphasized. D.Chatbots’ power should be ignored.
D
Our oceans are full of sophisticated (精密的), perfect traps: nets, hooks, fishing lines. Designed to capture animals destined for our dinner tables, they often catch other wildlife too. This accidental harvest is known as “bycatch”, and every year it kills millions of marine (海洋的) animals. It is also a tricky problem for fishermen, since trapped creatures can damage equipment, costing time and money.
“There are not very many conservation (保护) issues where conservationists, consumers, fishermen and resource users all want the same thing,” says marine biologist Matthew Savoca. “Everyone involved wants less bycatch.”
Some bycatch prevention methods have already shown promise in field trials. A study in northern Peru’s Sechura Bay, for example, showed a turtle bycatch reduction of more than 60% thanks to LED-illuminated (照明) nets. Another approach is pingers — devices attached to fishing gear that send sounds to warn echo-locating animals away. In three Norwegian fisheries, pingers reduced bycatch of harbor porpoise (鼠海豚) by 94%.
But these solutions have yet to be carried out on a large scale. The devices can be expensive, and the methods are not without downsides. LED lights may reduce target fish catch. Pingers are also linked with an increase in bycatch of seals, which seem to associate the sound with a potential meal.
A low-tech approach may help small-scale fisheries reduce the bycatch of echo-locating animals: fixing plastic water bottles to their nets. Detecting thin, fine nets is difficult for echo-locators like dolphins, but water bottles are a more easily detectable obstacle (障碍) that could help them avoid the nets.
For a solution to work, policies and regulations need to be put in place and enforced. Just as important, preventive measures need to be practical for fishermen and not add extra time and money to do the job. As marine sustainability scientist Lekelia Jenkins says, the smaller the change, the more likely fishermen are to adopt it.
The human side of the issue also needs to be recognized. “Emotionally, fishermen around the world are beaten up and beaten down,” Jenkins says. “We say, ‘You’re the problem. You’re catching sea turtles and whales.’” She suggests that fishermen should be empowered and included in the discussions and development of solutions.
32.What does Matthew Savoca mean?
A.Fishermen are mainly to blame.
B.Marine conservation unites people.
C.Reduction of bycatch is a shared wish.
D.The current action lacks participation.
33.Why is pinger a less preferred solution?
A.It scares many animals away. B.It works at an extra price.
C.The fishing gear is too costly. D.The fish catch is too small.
34.What makes dolphins benefit from the plastic bottles?
A.A lower technology cost. B.A smaller scale of fishery.
C.A less accessible barrier. D.A more obvious reminder.
35.What would Lekelia Jenkins agree with concerning the solutions?
A.All voices should be heard. B.Fishermen are the main problem.
C.Policies must be enforced. D.Sufficient investment is the key.

Drinking more water is an excellent goal for your health. Water is also a calorie-free choice, so drinking more water can help you to lose weight or keep a healthy weight. 36
Always having water on hand makes it easier to remember to drink it. It’s important to drink more water any time you’ve been sweating, such as when you’re exercising or after spending time in a hot environment. 37
Drinking water before your meals and while you eat can help to reduce your appetite since thirst is often confused with hunger. 38 This will save your money when you eat out and help you cut calories.
39 Try filling up a water bottle and adding a few simple fruit slices such as orange, lemon or some fresh berries such as blueberries, strawberries. Then, let the water sit in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours while it absorbs the flavors.
Tracking the amount of water you drink each day also works. This will help you to determine how much water you’re drinking and figure out if you might need to increase your intake. Remember to set a goal for how much water you want to drink each day. 40 The amount of water you need depends on your weight, sex, activity level, environment, and other factors. Consider how much of your daily fluid intake is water and identify how much of it you’d like to be water.
A.After meals, drinking water is a good choice.
B.The more water you drink, the healthier you are.
C.Here are some tips that can help you drink more water.
D.There’s no “right” amount of water for everyone to drink.
E.Replace your typical drink before and during meals with water.
F.Adding flavor to your water is a simple way to make it more tasty.

Mom and I stood in the hallway, nose to nose. Her hands were on her hips and she looked pretty angry. “I think you’d better go to bed now,” she said. I turned around and stomped (跺着脚走) to my bedroom.
I’d had the worst day at high school. My best friend, Mary Ellen, decided to join forces with the cool girl Regina. So there was no room for me at the lunch table. Of course, this had nothing to do with my mom, except that I’d been terrible to her that day. Years later I’d learn the terminology — misplaced anger — but on that day I’d just been hurt and mad and Mom was the retaliation (报复) target.
I pulled back the comforter (被子)and slid between sheets. As I lay there, I replayed the day’s events through my mind. Mom had baked cookies and they’d been fresh, piled on a plate, when I got home from school. “Couldn’t you have made chocolate chip?” I said. Later that night, when she pulled chicken from the oven, I complained again. Dad was at work but Mom still put a nice meal on the table. But I wanted hamburgers. “No one even likes that kind of chicken, Mom. Why didn’t you make hamburgers?” Mom breathed deep, “I made chicken and I’ve never heard anyone complain about it before.”
And it went downhill from there. I complained until Mom hit her limit, lost her temper, and we had a shouting match in the hall.
I felt pretty bad about the whole thing now. Why had I taken my troubles out on Mom? I knew that if I’d come home and shared what had happened, Mom would’ve listened. She would have offered encouragement and compassion. Then she would’ve said something funny and we’d have ended up laughing. But I hadn’t done that.
The sounds of the night were exaggerated (夸张的) in the dark. The rumble of the heater. The wind outside my window. Then a strange sound. A whirring from the kitchen. The clank (当啷声) of dishes. “What’s going on?” I wondered.

A Food Festival Held in Our School
Aimed at providing an opportunity for students to learn about food and raise their awareness of food culture, our school held the first Food Festival last week.
During the festival, every class set up food stands with food for students to try. Cooking classes were arranged, in which students learned how to cook a variety of local and international cuisines. The highlight was the cooking show where students could cultivate their imagination and creativity.
All the students thought highly of the festival, saying that it was truly a rewarding and enjoyable experience. The festival not only broadened their horizons but also deepened their understanding of food culture.
第二节(满分25分)
Suddenly, my bedroom door creaked open. I held my breath, unsure of what I would say if Mom came in. But instead of turning on the light, she quietly walked inside, carrying something that smelled the thick, juicy scent of hamburgers. She didn’t speak right away. In the dim glow from the hallway, she just set the plate on my bedside table and gently pulled the blanket over my shoulder. The anger on her face from earlier was gone, replaced by something softer. My throat tightened as I realized what she had done for me.
I apologized to Mom while eating the hamburger. The words came out slowly at first, but soon everything I had been holding in spilled out. I told her about school and how hurt I had felt. Mom listened quietly. When I finished, she smiled and squeezed my hand, telling me to let it go because there were new people waiting for me. I learned a lot about grace that night, when I should’ve been served a consequence (承担后果). But instead, my precious mom pulled out the pan, wiped the dust from the blender (搅拌机), and dished up a hearty portion of love.

C

G.Always keep a water bottle into your bag or car and refill it regularly.

We often went for hours like this, 49 a word spoken and yet we were talking in various ways the whole time.
As I grew up, I began to understand why my mother spent so much time in her garden. Her deafness had come during an era of little tolerance for diversity, and much 50 of disability. 51 the world outside was demanding and unforgiving, her garden was full of kindness and 52 . For her it was the only place 53 her control.

The event includes activities of pet medication and training, and offers a number of recreational activities for pets, such as swimming and shows. For Adam Kilani, a visitor from neighboring Alexandria Governorate, the event was an unforgettable experience, as his five-year-old pet dog Gawaher had learnt to swim for the first time. “It is a great chance for me to learn about pet care in an amusing way,” Kilani said. “Holding such events, especially in tourist resorts during the summer, will significantly promote the culture of pet ownership in Egypt.” Lina Kamal, who brought her three-year-old dog to the carnival, said the event was important because it raised the issue of street animals and offered solutions to their sad situation.

【答案】24.B 25.A 26.D 27.C
【导语】文章介绍了当下Z世代流行“奶奶风”,热衷老一辈的传统休闲爱好,并分析了这一潮流兴起的原因及其带来的积极影响。
24.主旨大意题。根据第二段中“According to Eventbrite, a global events marketplace, baking and bingo are on the rise. In Britain attendance at flower-arranging classes almost increased four times between 2023 and 2025; in America there were two and a half times more puzzle competitions.(据全球活动市场Eventbrite称,烘焙和宾果游戏正在兴起。在英国,插花班的参与人数在2023年至2025年间几乎增长了四倍;在美国,拼图比赛的数量增加了两倍半。)”可知,本段列举多项数据,证明传统老式爱好正在兴起。
25.词句猜测题。根据第四段“Gen Z “really embraces the old things” and wants to experience things “they never got to experience”, says Rudi Greenberg, Eventbrite’s head of management and trends. Psychologists call such desiring “ anemoia” (Eventbrite的管理与趋势主管Rudi Greenberg说,Z世代“真的拥抱旧事物”,想要体验“他们从未体验过”的东西。心理学家称这种欲望为“anemoia”。)”可知,anemoia指渴望拥有自己从未有过的过往体验。
26.细节理解题。根据第五段“90% of attendees come alone to meet “like-minded girls”. On a recent mid-week evening they were longing to get off their phones, gathered to paint pottery, many slowly enjoying soft drinks not wines.(90%的参与者都是单独来找“志同道合的女孩”。在最近的一个周中晚上,他们渴望放下手机,聚在一起画陶器,许多人慢慢地喝着软饮料,而不是葡萄酒。)”可知,她们参加手工聚会是为了结交志趣相投的朋友,并获得精神放松。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“The hobbies can also improve well-being: “Happiness from One Stitch at a Time”, a course run by psychologists, praises the healing advantages of knitting. (这些爱好还可以提高幸福感:心理学家开设的“一次一针的快乐”课程,赞扬了编织的治疗优势。)”可推知,传统爱好有助于促进年轻人的心理健康。

【答案】28.A 29.D 30.B 31.A
【导语】本文主要指出英国政府在应对人工智能聊天机器人监管方面存在滞后性,呼吁及时采取行动。
28.细节理解题。根据第一段“As the UK government starts dealing with the need for a social media ban (禁令) for under-16s, it is clear we may act too late on chatbots (聊天机器人).(英国政府刚刚开始处理16岁以下青少年社交媒体禁令事宜,但显而易见,我们在管控聊天机器人这件事上可能行动太迟。)”可知,第一段作者指出的问题是对人工智能的监管将会滞后。
29.推理判断题。根据第二段“Australia started a social media ban for under-16s, with France, Spain and others following.(澳大利亚率先推出16岁以下青少年社交媒体禁令,法国、西班牙等国纷纷跟进。)”可知,作者提到澳大利亚等国是为了说明这项禁令已经得到广泛认可。
30.细节理解题。根据第四段“The UK’s Online Safety Act doesn’t include AI, as it only controls human interactions.(英国的《网络安全法案》并未涵盖人工智能,该法案只管控人与人之间的线上交往行为。)”可知,英国的《网络安全法案》对人工智能缺少足够的管控。
31.细节理解题。根据最后一段“A team with government and industry experts should issue safety rules regularly. These rules can help stop bots from spreading false information or hurting users.(应由政府与行业专家组成团队,定期出台安全监管条例。这些规范能够遏制机器人传播虚假信息、伤害使用者。)”可知,作者建议必须制定安全监管准则。

【答案】32.C 33.B 34.D 35.A
根据文章第二段“‘There are not very many conservation issues where conservationists, consumers, fishermen and resource users all want the same thing,’ says marine biologist Matthew Savoca. ‘Everyone involved wants less bycatch.’(海洋生物学家马修·萨沃卡表示:“在环保问题中,很少有环保主义者、消费者、渔民和资源使用者诉求一致的情况。所有相关方都希望减少兼捕。)”可知,马修·萨沃卡想表达减少兼捕是所有人共同的愿望。
33.细节理解题。根据文章第四段中“The devices can be expensive, and the methods are not without downsides. LED lights may reduce target fish catch. Pingers are also linked with an increase in bycatch of seals, which seem to associate the sound with a potential meal. (这些设备价格较高,而且这类方法也存在缺点:LED灯光可能会减少目标鱼类的捕捞量;声波发射器还会导致海豹兼捕量增加,因为海豹会把这种声音和潜在食物联系起来。)”可知,声波发射器存在成本高、增加其他物种兼捕的额外代价,因此不是首选方案。
34.细节理解题。根据文章第五段中“Detecting thin, fine nets is difficult for echo-locators like dolphins, but water bottles are a more easily detectable obstacle that could help them avoid the nets. (对于海豚这类依靠回声定位的动物来说,很难探测到纤细的渔网,但塑料水瓶是更容易探测到的障碍物,可以帮助它们避开渔网。)”可知,塑料水瓶对海豚来说是更明显的提醒,帮助其避开渔网,因此让海豚受益。
35.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中“She suggests that fishermen should be empowered and included in the discussions and development of solutions. (她建议,应当赋予渔民权力,让他们参与到解决方案的讨论和开发当中。)”可知,莱克莉亚·詹金斯主张让渔民参与讨论、共同制定解决方案,也就是各方声音都应被听取。

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:续写词数为150左右。
Suddenly, my bedroom door creaked open.

I apologized to Mom while eating the hamburger.

【范文】
