However, there was something special about this one. You see, this was a green festival! From the food to the stalls (摊位), everything was as environmentally friendly as possible. The festival was powered by solar energy. There were specially labelled bins so that the waste could be recycled properly after the festival. Free fresh water was available to everyone so that guests didn’t need to buy drinks in plastic bottles which would create a lot of waste. I found the experience really interesting. Having never been to a music festival before, I was unsure of what to expect. However, I was happy to find myself sitting in a chair eating a healthy, home-made fruit cake while drinking tasty juice. There were many stalls for everyone, from small children to the elderly! This seems like such a great idea, to make something very fun and not cause great pollution to the environment, I have since discovered that there are more events similar to this across the world! I think it shows people’s growing awareness of environmental protection, I really hope that there will be more events like We Love Green. These environmentally friendly practices tell people being green does not mean being boring. It can be quite fun. As a result, more people may be encouraged to consider the influence they have on the environment. 24. What did the writer do recently in Paris? A. He ran a food stall. B. He helped clean a park. C. He travelled across the city. D. He went to a music festival. 25. Why did We Love Green provide fresh water for free? A. To help people save money. B. To encourage healthy eating. C. To help reduce plastic waste. D. To show the importance of water. 26. What does the writer think of We Love Green? A. Noisy and boring. B. Interesting but noisy. C. Environmentally friendly but boring. D. Interesting and environmentally friendly. 27. What’s the best title for the passage? A. A Great Green Experience B. A Special Park in Paris C. Advice on How to Be Green D. Environmental Protection Practices C With the recent discussion about the question of how much exercise is best. The answer often depends on your goals. For heart health, sessions four to five times weekly might be perfect. For mental health? As The Independent reports, scientists believe there’s a pretty specific prescription (处方): Exercising for 45 minutes three to five times a week. Researchers at Yale University and the University of Oxford made the study. They examined 1.2 million subjects who filled out the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey at two-year intervals (间隔时间) between 2011 and 2015. Subjects who didn’t exercise at all had an average of three-and-a-half days per month when they felt mentally unwell — stressed, depressed, or suffering from emotional problems — while those who exercised regularly reported an average of just two days. The study found that having three to five 45-minute sessions of exercise a week was best for reducing the reported problems of feeling stressed or depressed. Exercising for longer periods — some subjects reported more than 90 minutes in the gym — was connected with a drop-off in mental health benefits. Subjects who spent three hours at a time exercising actually reported an increase in depressive symptoms (症状). Researchers also found that the kind of exercise undertaken made a difference. While all kinds of exercise helped, people who took part in team sports promoting social communication described greater self-satisfaction with mental health. Because the study included self-reported outcomes and exercise wasn’t monitored, it’s possible that the subjects could have misread the amount of exercise performed. The study, however, makes a convincing case for a popular opinion: If exercise were a pill, doctors everywhere would be prescribing it. 28. The perfect amount of exercise for a person is usually decided by _______. A. his exercise routine B. what he wants to improve C. his physical condition D. what sports he prefers most 29. What do the numbers in paragraphs 3 show? A. The health benefits of exercise. B. People’s response to hard exercise. C. How exercise influences one’s mental health. D. Why positive attitudes promote one’s exercise. 30. Which of the following sports may bring people more pleasure? A. Tai chi. B. Volleyball. C. Climbing. D. Diving. 31. What may be the reason for the disadvantage of the study? A. Too few participants. B. Its researchers’ personal interests. C. The subjects’ personal judgments. D. Its failure to consider doctors’ suggestions. D “If you’re running a race and you pass the person in second place, what place are you in?” The quiz is deceivingly simple, but the answer isn’t obvious. The reason for this question design is not to cheat people, but to figure out natural differences in their thinking styles. After reading the question, an intuitive (直觉的) answer is likely to be: Since only one place is better than second place, if passing the person in second place, surely you’d be first. In comparison, a slower, more reflective thinker might realize that by passing the person in second place, one person is still in front of you. System 1 is a fast and intuitive approach, which is often ruled by emotional responses, habits or instincts (本能). It has the advantage of creating fast solutions but typically tends to make common reasoning errors. System 2 describes a slow and careful approach, which includes more measured reflection on different choices. It has the advantage of leading to more purposeful results but is also connected with the cost of higher mental effort. The test question intended to measure people’s preferences of one thinking style over the other. However, in fact, most people use a mixture of System 1 and System 2 approaches, with the context determining which system is more influential. The relative importance of a task and the amount of time available to make a choice can both influence how you think. With this in mind, we may have to look back on our first question. Rather than trying to identify the better thinking style, the challenge appears to be one of finding balance. Knowing when to think fast and when to think slow might be the real game changer for lifting productivity and success. 32. What does the underlined word “deceivingly” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Seemingly. B. Heavily. C. Extremely. D. Strangely. 33. What do we know about reflective thinkers? A. They are worse at running races. B. They are more likely to make mistakes. C. They are easily influenced by emotions. D. They often think twice about everything. 34. What can be inferred from paragraph 4? A. It’s difficult to change one’s thinking style. B. Reflective thinking outweighs intuitive thinking. C. One’s thinking style is decided by certain factors. D. People usually prefer one thinking style to the other. 35. What may be the key to success according to the text? A. Ignoring intuitive responses. B. Figuring out the better thinking style. C. Changing the game rules to your advantage. D. Finding balance between fast and slow thinking. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面的短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Every time you’re online, you are showered by pictures, articles, links and videos trying to tell their stories. 36 There is a range of fake (假的) news. Look to see if the story is on other news sites that you know and trust. 40 then it probably isn’t fake (although there are some exceptions), as many big news organizations try to check their sources before they publish a story. Even the class was very open during reading discussions. Jace’s honesty surprised me. What was even more eye-opening was the fact that the boy had lived ten years and never experienced the joy and surprise of receiving a present. I tried to search for a reason why he might be saying this. Then I remembered his story. He lived alone with his father, who had a hard time holding down a job. I didn’t see his father at enrollment (注册) or parent-teacher conferences. A couple of weeks after Jace’s comment, he was absent from school. This happened to be the day to plan for the classroom Christmas gift exchange. Traditionally, each child was to bring a gift for another child in the three-dollar range. As we were discussing the specifics, a girl raised her hand and suggested that we do away with our traditional policy, and that each buy a gift for Jace instead. We took a quick vote and unanimously (全体一致地) agreed to go ahead with this wonderful idea. With great excitement, the students began bringing gifts to school. They would eagerly tell me how they found the “perfect gift” and how their parents spent more than three dollars on Jace’s gifts! As the gifts poured in, I felt so proud of my thoughtful, selfless students who were truly showing the spirit of Christmas. After several days of Jace’s absence, you can imagine our disappointment when we learned that his absence was due to the fact that he had moved away! I was sure of one thing: I couldn’t let my students or Jace down. I found my information sheet and called every number listed. Apparently, Jace’s father had lost his job, causing them to relocate. No one knew where they were, and the cellphone number I had would ring with no response despite my continuous efforts. Even into our Christmas vacation, I constantly gave the phone number a shot. Finally, at 9: 30 pm on Christmas Eve, I decided to try one last time. As I drove down the road to Jace’s house, I saw the porch light of his father’s trailer (拖车式房屋) signaling which home was his. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
