A bell rings at 7pm every evening in Mohityache Avadgaon village, in India, telling people that it is time for everyone to turn off screen devices (设备), like televisions and mobile phones. At 8:30 pm, the bell rings the second time, telling the 3,000 villagers that screen-free time is over. The leaders of the village introduced it so that young people could focus on their homework and not be affected by funny videos or phone messages. However, some say that a screen simply allows people to get information-it is not harmful in itself. A person can decide for themselves when to put down a device. So should you set limits (限制) on screen time?
Yes-screen time should be limited
Phones, computers and TV are great ways for getting information and lots of fun. However, they can be addictive (使人成瘾的) and some people need help to break from them. Even if people are chatting on their phone or playing online games together, they can still feel lonely. Screen-free time means people can connect with family and friends in the real world. It’s also a great chance for people to go outside and be active, which is good for their health. Too much screen time can lead to other problems, such as not sleeping properly and being short on creativity.
No-people can manage their screen time
Through devices like phones and computers, people can find answers to many questions. Screen time can be productive —you can read great works of literature (文学), discover wonderful facts or read about important things happening in the world. It is great for homework and curious minds. Electronic devices also allow friends and family to stay in touch. Most people naturally take screen breaks, for example when they eat or exercise. People should be free to judge for themselves how much screen time they should have.
Now that you’ve read a lot about it, tell us what you think on the website theweekjunior.co.ukpolis. Choose YES if you think screen time should be limited, or NO if you don’t. We will show the result next week.

Dear Badminton,
I do remember the days before we met. I came back to an empty home with nothing to look forward to. There were many nights when I would lie in bed thinking if I would ever find anything like you. After years of nothing happening, you moved next door in the form of a court (场地) and threw your doors open for me to walk through.
In my life, I never knew I would find such happiness in spending time getting to know you. When I started this journey with you, I was so nervous but you were patient and let me try again and again. That is one thing I like about you — no matter how disappointing I might be in life, you always give me a chance. I fail many times. However, you always let me play again.
___▲___. I wake up early to train. I put the right food into my body so that I stay healthy. I sleep well so that I feel energetic. I want to be a better person than the one I was yesterday. There’s a glow in my face and a light in my life. That happiness is why I want to spend my time with you. I’ll not be able to explain to you how much I love you because you’re a sport. As a sport you don’t believe words or read letters. You only see actions. That is why I’ll walk the talk.
When I’m in the court and I see old people coming in with their inhalers (吸入器) to play, I suddenly have the answer to that question I have been asked so many times —“What do you want to be when you grow up?”I want to be there with you until the end.
Love you always,
Paul

In the deep mountains of Yunnan, there is a wonderful place called the Yuanyang Hani Terraces There are more than 3,700 stone steps along the slopes (斜坡). Now it is known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (世界遗产地), and visitors from all over the world come to visit it every year.
The hills were so steep that rice couldn’t grow on such slopes. However, the Hani people didn’t give up. Over 1,300 years, they thought of a creative idea and worked hard on these mountains generation after generation. They cut the steep slopes into flat steps. They used stones to hold the soil firmly. They also dug small channels (水道) to guide fresh water from the mountain top. Today, water is still brought down through these old channels.
The terraces do more than just grow rice. They also stop the soil from being washed away during storms. Forests cover the top of the mountain. Villages sit in the middle. Water flows through the channels, and the fields receive enough water to grow rice. All these parts work together perfectly like a well-designed ecological (生态的) machine. The Hani people believe that if they take good care of the mountain, the mountain will take care of them.
As the seasons turn, the terraces change their colors. In spring, they are covered with green rice plants. In autumn, they turn golden and wave in the wind. In winter, they are flooded with water and shine like bright mirrors under the sun. This ancient farmland is not just a pretty view. It is a living lesson. It reminds us that with patience, wisdom, and respect, people and nature can live together in harmony.
38.Why do people in Yunnan build the terraces?
A.Because terraces are easy to grow rice on and stop soil loss.
B.Because terraces have many steps and give a fantastic view.
C.Because terraces stop the soil from losing and are flooded with water.
39.What can you infer from the last paragraph?
A.People can change nature as long as they want to.
B.People can live with nature harmoniously with wisdom.
C.The terraces can change colors as they like.
40.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Yuanyang Hani Terraces-Perfect man-made fields
B.Yuanyang Hani Terraces-Perfect natural fields
C.Yuanyang Hani Terraces-Perfect natural sites

Do you have any hobbies? If not, please take up some now. 41 A Canadian study found that long-term hobbies can improve the brain’s structure
The research studied 58 people who love bird-watching. 42 Both groups included people of different ages, from the 20s to the 70s, and were similar in education.
During brain scans (扫描), volunteers saw a bird photo for less than four seconds. 43 This test was done 72 times, with 18 different kinds of birds.
The expert group successfully picked out 83 percent of local birds and 61 percent of non-local ones. 44 The scans also showed differences in brain structure: the areas responsible for attention and working memory are more compact (紧密的) in the experts, no matter the age. These areas also “lit up” when the experts tried to pick non-local birds-something that did not happen in the beginners’ brains.
45 A 2025 study found that the brains of dancers appeared over seven years younger than their actual age. AI models also showed that even short-term creative learning, like 30 hours, can “turn back time” for the brain. “Creativity shapes not only culture but biology,” the scientists wrote on The Conversation.
A.Different people have different hobbies.
B.Half were experts, while the other half were beginners.
C.However, the beginners only got 44 percent right for both.
D.Then, they had to pick the bird from four different pictures.
E.Hobbies not only make us happy, but also keep our brains healthy.
F.Creative hobbies, like music and dancing, are also good for the brain.

Dear Dr. Lin,
I’m really helpless recently. My son Jack is 15 years old. I find that the older he grows, the less we talk. He refuses to communicate with me. I feel very sad and I really need help.
My first problem is about his hobby. He spends almost all his spare time on computer games. When he gets home, he always turns on the computer and closes the door. I’m getting worried about him, especially when his English teacher tells me he always gets low marks in the English exams.
Second, he is crazy about electronic products (电子产品), but I don’t have enough money and I can’t afford all the things he wants. Yesterday, he asked me for a new iPhone, but I refused. We then had an argument.
Recently, I’ve found that he is always alone. I’ve never seen him talking to his friends on the phone or going out with anyone on weekends. He seems to have few friends. This is really abnormal for a teenager. I don’t know what to do now. Sometimes I can only cry alone. I need your help. Can you talk with him?

38.根据第二段原句“rice couldn’t grow on such slopes”,以及第三段原句“The terraces do more than just grow rice. They also stop the soil from being washed away”可知,建造梯田的目的是:改造陡坡适合种植水稻,同时防止水土流失。
39.最后一段结尾“It reminds us that with patience, wisdom, and respect, people and nature can live together in harmony”表明它提醒我们,只要有耐心、智慧和尊重,人与自然就能和谐相处,对应B选项“People can live with nature harmoniously with wisdom”。

B“Half were experts, while the other half were beginners.”
D“Then, they had to pick the bird from four different pictures.”
C“However, the beginners only got 44 percent right for both.”
F“Creative hobbies, like music and dancing, are also good for the brain.”

Dear Dr. Lin,
I’m really helpless recently.
Yours,
May

例文
Dear Peter,
I’m very glad to hear that you’re coming to China next week. I hope to see you soon. Let me tell you about Chinese customs.
First, when you meet someone for the first time, you should shake hands. It’s polite and friendly. Second, when you talk with others, try not to ask personal questions like someone’s salary or age—it’s better to talk about hobbies or travel. What’s more, at meals, you should use chopsticks. Don’t point at others with your chopsticks, and never stick them upright into your food—that’s considered impolite.
I’m sure you will enjoy your visit! Let me know if you have more questions.
Yours,
Li Hua.
