I concentrated on steadying my elbows, gently applying pressure to the clay, and slowly pulling up the walls to form a bowl. The quiet rhythmic sound of the spinning wheel had a calming effect. To my surprise, by the end of that class, I had created my first real piece — a small, imperfect, yet completely handmade bowl.
