Passage1
Have you ever listened to a piece of music that gave you chills? That feeling is not just in your head—it is real and it has a name: “frisson”, a French word that means “a shiver of excitement”.
Scientists have found that music can cause real physical changes in our bodies. When we listen to music that we enjoy, our brains release dopamine, a chemical that makes us feel pleasure and happiness. This is the same chemical that is released when we eat delicious food or spend time with people we love.
Music also helps us connect with others. When people sing together or play instruments in a group, their heartbeats actually begin to beat at the same rhythm. This is one reason why music has been part of human culture for thousands of years—it brings people together in a way that words alone cannot.
Perhaps the most amazing power of music is its ability to reach people who have lost their memories. Studies have shown that patients with Alzheimer’s disease can still remember and sing songs from their youth, even when they cannot remember their own family members. Music seems to be stored in a different part of the brain that is less affected by the disease.
Whether you are a professional musician or just someone who enjoys listening to the radio, music has the power to change your mood, bring back memories, and connect you to others. As the great philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “Without music, life would be a mistake.”

Passage2
Most people enjoy listening to music. But when you ask your classmates what they like listening to, you are likely to get many different answers. Why do different people have different musical tastes? Do you know about the reasons? What do these differences say about us?
Researchers set out to answer these questions. They surveyed 350,000 people from 50 different countries. Then, they detected some connections between musical tastes and personality. Outgoing people preferred music with a fast rhythm (节奏), such as rap. Country music lovers were shown to be more responsible. The researchers guessed worried people might like either sad music or rhythmic music. But it turned out that these people liked neither. Instead, they preferred loud and powerful music.
The researchers also said that climate might influence people’s musical tastes and personality. People in warmer climate preferred rhythmic music. They were more outgoing. This might be a result of longer daylight hours and warmer evenings. They encouraged people to join in social activities.
Of course, we might not divide people simply by their musical tastes. The study just showed us that people from different cultures are more similar than we think. “People are divided by languages and cultures,” said Dr. David Greenberg, “But if an outgoing person in one part of the world likes the same music as outgoing people elsewhere, then we can say that music is really like a powerful bridge.”

As an ancient country with a history of more than 5,000 years, China has hundreds of traditional musical instruments. These musical instruments interest Western people greatly. Here’re four to enjoy!
Erhu is a Chinese folk instrument. It is sometimes known as the “Chinese violin” because it sounds like a violin. The Moon over a Fountain is one of the most famous pieces of erhu music. A blind man, Abing, created it according to a love story between a girl and himself.
It’s amazing that in ancient times, guzheng was used to strike the enemies. Later, it was used as a kind of musical instrument. At first, it had five strings, then seven strings, and then a 13-string guzheng was developed. Now, it usually has 21 strings.
Xun is one of the oldest Chinese musical instruments. It comes in different shapes. The most common one is egg-shaped. Each shape produces a different sound. It can be made of stone, jade (玉) and clay.
The horse-head fiddle (马头琴) is a type of traditional musical instrument of the Mongolian ethnic group (蒙古族). There are two strings on the horse-head fiddle. Mongolians have played it for centuries. It is said that once a boy had a little white horse. He loved it very much. Unluckily, a bad man killed it. The boy finally made a musical instrument out of its body and carried it all the time.

根据第三段“At first, it had five strings”,古筝最初发明时有五根弦。
2.根据第四段“It comes in different shapes. The most common one is egg-shaped”可知提及外形②;再根据第四段“It can be made of stone, jade (玉) and clay”可知提及制作材料③;文中未介绍埙的发明者和知名曲目,因此是②③。
4.根据最后一段“It is said that once a boy had a little white horse. He loved it very much. Unluckily, a bad man killed it. The boy finally made a musical instrument out of its body and carried it all the time.”,完整讲述白马遇害,男孩用白马躯体制作乐器的小故事来介绍马头琴,可知作者通过讲故事的方式介绍马头琴。

Passage2
When I was a teenager, my parents were never interested in the music I preferred. They said to me, “David, the music you like listening to is a lot of noise.” At the same time, my father described the music that he liked as beautiful. As it turns out, they are not alone. As I grow older, I’ve often heard people of my age say, “Today’s music is terrible.” Many older people just don’t like new music. But why is that?
The mere exposure effect (纯粹接触效应) may explain this. It means the more familiar we are with something, the more likely we are to prefer it. When we are in our early teens, we usually spend a lot of time listening to popular music and discussing it with our friends. The new songs and singers during this time become familiar to us. After we turn 30 years old, we are busy working and raising our families. We don’t have so much time to look for new music. Instead, we prefer to listen to our old favourites. According to studies, by the time we turn 33 years old, most of us will completely stop exploring new music.
But I think there is another reason for older people’s dislike of new music. Most new music, after all, is not written for them. It is made for young people. Some types of music began as a rebellion by young people against out-of-date ways of doing things. These types include punk, rap, hip-hop, heavy metal and more. They naturally interest younger listeners.
Do your parents dislike the music you like too? Now, after reading this article, you know there is nothing wrong with that.
1.Which of the following charts correctly shows “the mere exposure effect”? (Preference: 偏爱,Level of familiarity: 熟悉度)
A. B. C. D.
2.Why do many older people dislike new music?
①Because the new music sounds terrible.
②Because they are afraid of noise.
③Because most new music is not written for them.
④Because they are not familiar with the new music.
A.①② B.②③ C.③④ D.②④
3.Which word is closest in meaning to the underlined word “rebellion” in Paragraph 3?
A.Purpose. B.Sense. C.Praise. D.Disagreement.
4.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.New music will become more popular with older people.
B.Older people will try to listen to different kinds of new music.
C.People will know it’s normal that older people dislike new music.
D.More beautiful and simple songs will be written for older people.
5.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Why don’t Your Parents Like the Music You Like?
B.What's the Real Meaning of the Mere Exposure Effect?
C.When do Most Young People Stop Exploring New Music?
D.How do Young People Like Different Types of New Music?
1.A 2.C 3.D 4.C 5.A
文章第二段提到“The mere exposure effect (纯粹接触效应) may explain this. It means the more familiar we are with something, the more likely we are to prefer it.”,“纯粹接触效应”是指:熟悉度越高,偏好度越高,所以正确的图表应该是:横轴为“熟悉度”,纵轴为“偏好”,两者呈正相关(上升曲线)。
2.第三段明确写道“Most new music, after all, is not written for them. It is made for young people.”,大多数新音乐不是为他们写的,是为年轻人创作的。第二段提到“ According to studies, by the time we turn 33 years old, most of us will completely stop exploring new music.”,年轻人到33岁后不再探索新音乐,所以对新音乐不熟悉,而“纯粹接触效应”表明人们偏好熟悉的事物。
3.原文第三段提到“Some types of music began as a rebellion by young people against out-of-date ways of doing things.”,某些音乐类型起初是年轻人对过时做事方式的一种“反抗/叛逆”,rebellion意为“反抗/叛逆”,与disagreement(不认同/反对)意思最接近。
4.最后一段提到“Do your parents dislike the music you like too? Now, after reading this article, you know there is nothing wrong with that.”,读完这篇文章后,你会明白父母不喜欢你的音乐是很正常的,没什么问题。

Passage4
Do you have the experience that you are having a test but the melody (旋律) of “APT, APT…” remains in your head out of control? Although the songs aren’t played now, they can’t get out of your brain. They are known as earworms.
An earworm can be kept in your head after you listen to the music. But it can also happen if something brings back a memory of the song, like visiting the place where you first heard it. 1 That’s why it is seen as a common thing.
Why do we get earworms? 2 They have been doing some research into what makes a particular part of music so catchy. A catchy piece of music means it is very easy to learn, and can be kept in your brain for a long period. They’ve also learned that most earworms have melodies that are easy to remember.
What would cause the human brain to repeat the same song at the very beginning? 3 But long ago, before people used writing to communicate, we passed along information through songs. So, we may have developed ways to keep music in our head in order to remember valuable information.
Whatever the reason, when a song can’t get out of your brain, it can be unpleasant! 4 You can listen to another song or try to do something else, or tell others about your earworm which can change the way your brain forms memories of music. 5 Then perhaps you should just sit back and try to enjoy the earworm!
A.This is still a mystery.
B.There is a song in your mind.
C.What if none of these ways work?
D.Artists make use of it to make up songs.
E.Scientists have studied earworms for years.
F.Luckily, there may be some ways to avoid an earworm.
G.A study shows that 90 percent of people experience earworms.

3.根据前文“What would cause the human brain to repeat the same song at the very beginning?” 后文“But long ago, before people used writing to communicate, we passed along information through songs.”
4.根据后文“You can listen to another song or try to do something else, or tell others about your earworm which can change the way your brain forms memories of music.”

Passage5
The 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala was broadcast around the world on Chinese New Year’s Eve. One wonderful cultural show was called Ode to the Flower Gods (贺花神). It got its idea from the White Jade Twelve-Month Pendants (白玉十二生肖挂件) in the Palace Museum. The show beautifully mixes twelve months, twelve flowers, and twelve famous historical figures into one poetic program. It shows the beauty of traditional Chinese culture and tells us how flowers can stand for great qualities and valuable ideas.
The show is special because each flower is matched with a person who has a similar spirit. Among them are seven great writers, such as Lin Bu, Lu You, Zhou Dunyi, Xu Wei, Tao Yuanming, Li Qingzhao and Bai Juyi. Their good qualities are just like the meanings of plum blossoms (梅花), apricot blossoms (杏花), lotuses (荷花), hollyhocks (蜀葵), chrysanthemums (菊花), sweet osmanthus (桂花) and camellias (山茶花). The show also includes four famous women: Xi Furen, Yang Yuhuan, Wang Zhaojun and LuoShen. They are connected with peach blossoms, peonies, cotton roses and daffodils. Zhang Qian, who brought pomegranates (石榴) to China, shows the brave spirit of the pomegranate flower. In this way, the show changes the old idea that only women can be flower gods. It fully shows the traditional Chinese idea of “finding virtues in flowers”.
With the help of advanced AIGC technology, the show brings real performers and digital pictures together perfectly. On the stage, the twelve jade pendants finally form a full circle, which stands for the cycle of time and the beauty of harmony. Ode to the Flower Gods is more than a great artistic show; it helps people feel closer to their own culture through lively symbols. It keeps traditional culture alive in the digital age and shows the spirit of Chinese civilization with soft but strong cultural confidence.

3.Which word is closest in meaning to the underlined word “rebellion” in Paragraph 3?
A.Purpose. B.Sense. C.Praise. D.Disagreement.

B.There is a song in your mind.
