B Body language is the"silence language"of every culture. It is important to know the body language of every country,or we may be misunderstood. In the United States, people greet each other with a handshake in a formal introduction. The handshake must be firm.If the handshake is weak,it is a sign of weakness or unfriendliness.Friends may place a hand on the other's arm or shoulder. Some people, usually women, greet a friend with a hug. Space is important to Americans. When two people talk to each other, they usually stand about two or a half feet away and at an angle,so they are not facing each other directly.Americans get uncomfortable when a person stands too close. They will move back to have their space. If Americans touch another person by accident, they say "Pardon me”or“Excuse me'”. Americans like to look the other person in the eye when they are talking. If you don't do so,it means you are bored, hiding something,or are not interested. But when you stare at someone,it is not polite. Learning a culture's body language is sometimes confusing. If you don't know what to do,the safest thing to do is smile. 4.Suppose you are meeting a customer from United States, how will you greet him? A.Greet him with a hug. B.Stare at him. C.Place a hand on his arm. D.Shake his hand firmly. 5.If you stand too close to Americans, they will A.face you directly B.move back C.say“Pardon me” D.stare at you 6.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the text? A.Americans stand side by side when talking with friends. B.Americans show their respect by shaking hands weakly. 4-2 C.Americans say "Excuse me"to each other when talking. D.Americans like to look the other person in the eye when talking. 7.If you know nothing about a culture's body language, you can A.listen carefully with no expression B.hide your opinions C.smile D.stare at others C If it had not been for Fan Jinshi and her team, the world cultural heritage at Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes in a remote Chinese desert might have long been destroyed by sand, weather or humans. Born and raised in Shanghai,Fan has spent half a century fighting an uphill battle to preserve the ancient Buddhist wall painting at Dunhuang,in Northwest China's Gansu Province. The 1,651-year-old Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes are a huge collection of Buddhist art-more than 2,000 buddha figures and 45,000 square meters of paintings spread among 735 caves. It is China's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Archaeologist Fan was sent to Dunhuang after graduation from Peking University in 1963.While in Dunhuang,a remote village in the desert then,Fan lived in an abandoned temple. At first, she did not even dare to go out to the toilet at night. To protect the treasures from sand and dampness,Fan and other workers put doors on the caves, planted trees and started monitoring temperature and humidity in the caves. They also controlled the number of visitors. In the late 1990s,with tourism booming nationwide since national holidays were extended, the local government planned to go public with Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, but found Fan firmly in their way."The heritage would have been destroyed if it had been listed,”she said. Dunhuang Academy has now photographed and catalogued online all the sculptures and paintings."Despite our efforts to minimize damage,we can't completely stop them from being eroded. But the digital database will last." Fan was grateful when her husband joined her in Dunhuang in 1986 after 19 years of separation. Her two sons grew up in Shanghai with their aunt."I have not been a good mother or wife. With regard to my family,I'm full of guilt,"she said.Fan,79,retired two years ago as the director of Dunhuang Academy but continues her efforts as a national political adviser. 8.Which of the following measures DIDN'T Fan Jinshi take to protect Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes? A.Opening Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes to the public extensively. B.Planting trees and stopping the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes being eroded. 4-3 C.Picturing and classifying all the sculptures and paintings online. D.Putting doors on the caves and monitoring temperature and humidity. 9.When was Fan separated from her husband? A.In1963. B.In1967. C.In1986. D.In the late 1990s. 10.The underlined phrase in their way in Paragraph 4 means A.go to a place B.be in favor of something C.reject something D.give in to something 11.What kind of person do you think Fan is? A.Considerate and easy-going. B.Kind and intelligent. C.Humorous and sweet-tempered. D.Devoted and persistent. D Returning to a book you've read many times can feel like drinks with an old friend. There's a welcome familiarity -but also sometimes a slight suspicion that time has changed you both, and thus the relationship. But books don't change, people do.And that's what makes the act of rereading so rich and transformative. The beauty of rereading lies in the idea that our bond with the work is based on our present mental register. It's true, the older I get,the more I feel time has wings. But with reading,it's all about the present. It's about the now and what one contributes to the now, because reading is a give and take between author and reader. Each has to pull their own weight. There are three books I reread annually. The first, which I take to reading every spring is Emest Hemningway's A Moveable Feast.Published in 1964,it's his classic memoir of 1920s Paris. The language is almost intoxicating(令人p陶醉的),an aging writer looking back on an ambitious yet simpler time.Another is Annie Dillard's Holy the Firm, her poetic 1975 ramble (about everything and nothing. The third book is Julio Cortazar's Save Twilight:Selected Poems, because poetry. And because Cortazar. While I tend to buy a lot of books, these three were given to me as gifs, which might add to the meaning I attach to them. But I imagine that, while money is indeed wonderful and necessary, rereading an author's work is the highest currency a reader can pay them. The best books are the ones that open further as time passes. But remember,it's you that has to grow and read and reread in order to better understand your friends. 12.Why does the author like rereading? A.It evaluates the writer-reader relationship. B.It's a window to a whole new world. C.It's a substitute for drinking with a friend. D.It extends the understanding of oneself. 4-4 13.What do we know about the book A Moveable Feas!? A.It's a brief account of a trip. B.It's about Hemingway's life as a young man. C.It's a record of a historic event. D.It's about Hemingway's friends in Paris. 14.What does the underlined word "currency"in paragraph 4 refer to? A.Debt B.Reward. C.Allowance. D.Face value. 15.What can we infer about the author from the text? A.He loves poetry. B.He's an editor. C.He's very ambitious. D.He teaches reading. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为 多余选项。 I experienced years of loneliness as a child.16 His friends teased him about babysitting his sister and his interests were far different from mine. With no other kids of my age in the neighborhood,I had to spend hours by myself. My sister was there too and she was strongly for my view.We found out we got really mad at my dad and told him not to kill it.After about 10 minutes of complaining we finally convinced my dad not to kill it because we told him that there was no reason for him to kill the goat himself when he could just buy goat meat at a store. My parents know some friends that we visit sometimes and their family really likes animals so we decided to give it to them. For about a month, they had the goat as a pet and they also had the same problems as we had because the dad wanted to kill it and eat it but the rest of the family didn't want it to die. They also were able to persuade him not to do so.They ended up sending the goat to a family member's farm where it would grow up happily. Another thing that has happened to influence my belief is that I have a neighbor that really likes hunting. One day he hunted a deer and brought the body home, but he decided to leave it outside his house for everyone to see.He just left it there as if it were some kind of award that he just won.Sadly little kids started to make fun of the body and pretended to ride on it.They laughed at it and felt no problem with there being a dead deer just laying. Paragraph 1: I felt sick by what was happening and left because of what I had just witnessed. Paragraph 2: It amazes me how we have changed from hunting to survive to hunting for sport. 4-8
