Our school is called a “free school”. This means that the pupils are free to choose what and how they want to learn. The school opens at 9:00 am, but the children can arrive whenever they like. Most of them are in school by ten. If you look through the door of that big room you’ll see those children reading and drawing there. Four of the older boys are now on their way to the Car-room to have their driving lessons. Several children are taking turns in the kitchen to help Miss Cabe with lunch. They all enjoy doing this. After lunch it’s someone else’s job to do the washing-up. This job is unpopular. After lunch the children go on with what they’ve been doing until 4:30. A mother, Carrie Cort, 51, from Sussex, and her nine-year-old son were named the UK’s most environmentally friendly family after winning an award for their environmental achievements.
Now every aspect of her life is environmentally friendly, from her son Adam’s birthday parties to her clothing, and she recycles everything from used pens to milk bottle tops. “Changing our family lifestyle to a green one has saved us around £11,000 every year, which has given us more financial stability,” Carrie says. “Living green has made us healthier and I feel younger now. It is fun to see what you can make with unwanted or broken things. Growing your own food is great exercise, which is good for wildlife, and the food is much more nutritious and tastier.”
“My concern for the way we humans are treating the planet was really aroused in 2008 when Adam was born. When he arrived, I suddenly had this huge, greater awareness of the planet we’re bringing our children into though I learnt something about it in university.” She began going to talks, reading books, watching documentaries and attending green meetings in order to educate herself in the details of green living.
Carrie set up the local campaign group — Sussex Green Living six years after her son’s birth. Later, she gave up her high-powered job, as she ran a video company with her brother, to do her job full-time. Today, she organizes talks and workshops. She runs a repair café, where people can bring everything to be fixed. Her recycling program helps people reuse wastes. Toothpaste tubes, for example, are turned into purses by an organization. “My goal is to inspire more people to lead greener, more environmentally friendly lives, to enable us to live in greater harmony with nature, now and for future generations. I achieve this by various Sussex Green Living communication programs and working with other organizations who have the same goals and values.”
24. How did Carrie feel about her environmentally friendly lifestyle?
A. It required too much effort. B. It was economical and beneficial.
C. It was challenging but rewarding. D. It was costly but necessary.
25. What does the underlined word “aroused” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Calmed. B. Frightened. C. Confused. D. Awakened.
26. How did Carrie do to learn more about green living?
A. By turning wastes into useful things by herself.
B. By teaching environmental knowledge at university.
C. By setting up an organization called Sussex Green Living.
D. By studying through different ways like reading and listening.
27. What can we know about Carrie from the text?
A. She focuses mainly on her video company.
B. She works part-time for Sussex Green Living.
C. She devoted herself fully to environmental cause.
D. She started her environmental career right after university.
【答案】24. B 25. D 26. D 27. C

【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段Carrie所说的话““Changing our family lifestyle to a green one has saved us around £11,000 every year, which has given us more financial stability,” Carrie says. “Living green has made us healthier and I feel younger now. It is fun to see what you can make with unwanted or broken things. Growing your own food is great exercise, which is good for wildlife, and the food is much more nutritious and tastier.”(“将我们的家庭生活方式转变为绿色模式,每年为我们节省了约1.1万英镑,这让我们的经济状况更加稳定,”卡丽说道,“践行绿色生活不仅让我们更加健康,我现在也感觉更年轻了。用废弃或破损的物品进行改造,看看能做出什么,这本身就充满乐趣。亲自种植食物是绝佳的锻炼方式,既有益于野生动物,而且产出的食物营养更丰富,味道也更可口。”)”可知,Carrie认为环保生活方式既省钱又健康有益。
【25题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段划线单词所在句子“My concern for the way we humans are treating the planet was really … in 2008 when Adam was born. Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing technology — but the field still needs humans. Marcus Fontoura, a vice president at Microsoft and author of a book about using AI and technology to advantage, recently shared his thoughts about the future of computer science jobs.
Over the past several decades, the technology industry has offered American workers high wages and job security. But recent uncertainty has made people question the value of tech jobs and skills. AI is already replacing some entry-level tech positions, and major companies like Intel, Meta, and Microsoft have laid off thousands of workers this year.
These are significant challenges. However, Fontoura still believes that pursuing a degree in computer science and related disciplines is one of the best choices students can make. Many people don’t understand what computer science really involves. The most important concept students learn is creative problem-solving. Computer programming is just a tool to help with this process.
When Fontoura got his computer engineering degree in 1995, the world was very different. The worldwide web was just starting, with no big search engines, cloud computing, or widespread cell phones. But he learned the basics of computer science and was trained in problem-solving. That training allowed him to work successfully in many fields over the past 20 years, including Google Search and Microsoft Azure.
Many people think AI will affect software development more than other fields. In fact, AI will impact every worker, not only software developers. We’ll see AI tools for graphic designers, lawyers, accountants and healthcare workers — new tools in every profession where knowledge can be organized by AI systems.
Yes, software development will be affected by AI, but this won’t reduce the need for human developers. What AI can do really well is automate the mechanical aspects of a job. However, we’re still far from the day when AI will decide what software systems need to be built and which products should be developed. We need people for these jobs, and we’ll continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
28. What has caused people to question tech careers recently?
A. AI’s impact and job cuts. B. Low wages in the industry.
C. Lack of job skills. D. Difficulty of computer science.
29. According to Fontoura, what is the core of computer science education?
A. Mastering technical tools. B. Understanding AI technology.
C. Learning programming languages. D. The ability to solve problems creatively.
30. What can we infer about Fontoura’s career experience?
A. He faced great difficulties in career changes.
B. His skills adapted to technological changes.
C. He only worked for Microsoft.
D. He centered his career on computer programming.
31. What is Fontoura’s attitude towards the future of computer science jobs?
A. Optimistic. B. Uncertain. C. Indifferent. D. Pessimistic.
【答案】28. A 29. D 30. B 31. A
【解析】

You may find comfort in the North Star’s role as a guiding light through hardship. For countless travelers throughout history, Polaris has provided direction when paths seem unclear. In moments of despair, it becomes a reminder that there’s always a guiding star to follow. Many cultures emphasize its importance during difficult times, encouraging people to seek out their own “North Star” to navigate through life’s challenges.

根据上文“Parents often imagine a certain future for their children.(父母往往会为子女设想一个特定的未来)”以及下文“— whether in career, relationships, or lifestyle — it builds trust and confidence.(无论是在事业、人际关系还是生活方式上——这都能建立信任和信心)”可知,空格处需体现父母从“设想特定未来”到“接受子女独特选择”的转折。F选项“But when they openly accept and support their child’s unique choices(但当他们公开接受并支持子女独特的选择时)”承接上文,与前文形成转折,引出下文支持子女带来的积极影响,符合语境。故选F项。
【37题详解】
根据上文“Saying “I am here for you” and then truly listening without interrupting or fixing things can mean more than advice.(说出“我在这儿陪你”,然后真正倾听,不打断、不急于解决问题,这比建议更有意义)”可知,空格处需强调“陪伴和耐心”的意义。A选项“Presence and patience show love in a quiet but strong way (陪伴和耐心以一种沉默却有力的方式表达爱)”承接上文,解释了“我在这儿陪你”这句话的深层内涵,符合语境。故选A项。
【38题详解】
根据上文“An honest apology for past actions or unmet emotional needs can be powerful.(对过去的行为或未满足的情感需求真诚道歉,效果会很显著)”可知,空格处需说明道歉的意义——体现父母的认知。E选项“It shows a parent’s awareness that their choices have caused pain(这体现了父母意识到自己的选择曾带来伤害)”承接上文,符合语境。故选E项。
【39题详解】
根据下文“This question prevents misunderstandings. Instead of assuming what an adult child needs during tough times, asking directly shows care and respect.(这个问题能避免误解。与其猜测成年子女在困境中需要什么,直接询问更能体现关心和尊重)可知,空格处需是一个问句,且围绕“询问子女需求”展开。B选项“Are you looking for advice, or would you like me to listen(你是需要建议,还是希望我倾听)”是直接询问子女需求的问句,符合段落主旨,与下文衔接流畅。故选B项。
【40题详解】
根据下文“When used with sincerity, they can strengthen family ties, encourage honesty, and create a safe space for both parents and adult children to grow together.(如果真诚地运用,它们能够增进家庭纽带,鼓励坦诚相待,并为父母和成年子女创造一个共同成长的安全空间)”可知,空格处需总起下文,强调这些话语的意义。C选项“These phrases may seem simple, but they carry deep meaning(这些话语看似简单,却蕴含深刻意义)”承上启下,总结前文提到的四句短语,引出下文它们带来的积极影响,符合语境。故选C项。

第二节 (满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Mommy, I’m hungry,” my 7-year-old son, Nathan, complained from the back seat. 10-year-old Julia agreed. I had just picked them up from school, and we were heading to the hospital to visit their grandpa, Larry, who had suffered another stroke (中风) a week earlier. That morning, he had been moved from the ICU into a regular room.
Nearly a year ago, Larry had his first stroke. We had been caring for him at home. Though my husband helped daily despite his demanding job, the responsibility still weighed heavily on me.
I sighed, trying to shake off the constant sense of being overwhelmed (不堪重负的). “I know you’re hungry. We’ll get something at the hospital cafeteria,” I said. More protests came from the back seat.
When we walked into Larry’s room, Amy, a nurse who had long cared for Larry, greeted us before she stepped out. The kids hugged their grandpa but soon continued to complain about being hungry. Nathan said I packed the wrong lunch because I forgot it was pizza day. Julia added, “Mom was late picking me up, and she missed two mistakes in my math homework.”
My face burned with embarrassment. Larry said, “Take it easy on your mom. She’s doing her best.” I smiled at him, appreciating his efforts to defend me. It wasn’t his fault that even my best wasn’t very good.
Before the kids could continue, Amy called us out, holding a package of biscuits. She gave the food to the kids, and then said, “Enjoy the biscuits inside. I’ll be in the hall with your mom.” Then she quickly closed the door behind us.
Seeing my surprised look, Amy laughed, “I had to rescue you from them. Kids can be too hard on moms, expecting them to be superwomen. They don’t know moms sometimes need help.” My heart sank as I realized she had overheard my kids complaining about my many recent parenting failures.
注意.1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Before I could say anything, Amy shook her head.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Inspired by Amy’s words, I had a serious talk with my kids that night.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Before I could say anything, Amy shook her head. “Don’t blame yourself for not being a superwoman,” she said seriously. “Larry and I chat often, so I know you’ve been caring for him at home for the past year. Caregiving can be overwhelming.” I admitted feeling overwhelmed from juggling too much. “You can’t add a huge responsibility like caregiving and expect to do everything else perfectly. It’s impossible,” she continued. “Your kids are old enough to help. Why not let them know you need their help?”
Inspired by Amy’s words, I had a serious talk with my kids that night. “Grandpa needs my help, and that means I need yours,” I told them. To my surprise, they nodded eagerly. We brainstormed ways to lighten my load: Nathan would remind me of pizza days, and Julia would double-check her own homework. Their support made me feel a weight lift off my shoulders. Thinking of Amy, I realized that sometimes we just need someone to see our struggles and give us permission to slow down and take care of ourselves.

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and spotted the North Star? It’s not merely a bright point of light; it’s a symbol that has guided countless travelers and dreamers throughout history. Understanding what the North Star represents can deepen your appreciation for its significance.
The North Star, or Polaris, holds deep historical significance as an incredibly important guide for navigation (航行) and a symbol of hope across cultures. Ancient civilizations relied heavily on it for navigation, using its fixed position in the night sky to find their way at sea. Ancient Greeks and Romans used Polaris to chart their courses during long voyages. In North America, indigenous tribes (土著部落) used the star for navigation, helping them travel vast landscapes.
The North Star has special meanings in many cultures. In Native American traditions, it symbolizes guidance and protection and is often associated with spiritual journeys. In Celtic mythology, the North Star represents the center of the universe, grounding travelers as they journey through life. In various belief systems, it means hope, reminding individuals that even in darkness, there is light to follow.
The North Star symbolizes guidance, hope and constancy in literature and art. Poets frequently use it to express themes of hope and reliable guidance. In works from classical to modern poetry, the North Star represents a guide through life’s uncertainties.
32. What was the primary practical use of the North Star in ancient times?
A. Religious ceremonies. B. Artistic inspiration.
C. Navigation. D. Agricultural planning.
33. What do different cultures view the North Star as?

第二节 (满分25分)
注意.1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Before I could say anything, Amy shook her head.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Inspired by Amy’s words, I had a serious talk with my kids that night.
