Should Teenagers Rely on Smart Devices?
Smart devices bring great convenience to teenagers. They help finish homework quickly and provide easy access to information.
However, over-reliance causes problems. It weakens independent thinking and reduces problem-solving skills. Some students even copy answers directly, hurting their learning.
In my opinion, teenagers can use smart devices properly but not depend on them. We should use them as tools to learn, not replace our own thinking. Also, set time limits and try to solve problems independently first. Only in this way can we benefit from technology.

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon. Ben was at home, feeling bored. His mum suggested, “Why don’t you organize your memory box, Ben? You haven’t looked at it for ages.”
Ben thought it was a good idea. He carried the old box to the living room. Inside, there were many small items: a fossil he found on the beach, a ticket from his first football match, and a photo of him and Grandpa by the lake. He picked up the photo and 1 it carefully. Grandpa had taught him how to fish that day.
Suddenly, Ben noticed something at the bottom of the box—a small, handwritten note. It was from Grandpa. “Dear Ben,” it read, “remember to look at the stars even on cloudy days.” Ben 2 hard. Grandpa used to say that when things were difficult.
Just then, the doorbell rang. It was his best friend, Leo. “Want to play basketball?” Leo asked. Ben almost said yes, but then he looked at the note again. He remembered Grandpa’s words about valuing small moments. “Not now,” Ben said. “I’m sorting out my 3 .”
Leo looked at the photo. “Wow, your grandpa was cool. I miss him too.” They sat down together and Ben told Leo stories about Grandpa. As they talked, Ben realized how much he had 4 about his grandpa’s funny jokes and wise advice.
The rain stopped and the sun came out. Ben felt warm inside. He put the note back in the box 5 . This memory box wasn’t just a box; it was a treasure chest of his life. He decided to add something new to it every month to keep his memories 6 .
“Hey, Leo,” Ben said with a smile. “Let’s go outside and look at the stars later. Grandpa would have liked that.”
“Sounds great,” Leo replied. Ben knew that remembering the past could make the present even 7 .

B
Do you ever wonder why you can still remember the plot of your favorite cartoon from years ago, but you can’t recall where you put your keys five minutes ago? Scientists say this is because our brain has different systems for processing memories.
When we experience something new, our brain decides whether it is important enough to keep. Emotional events, like a surprise birthday party or a scary moment, are usually stored very well. This is because our “emotional brain” pays extra attention to feelings. However, everyday boring tasks, like putting keys down, often don’t get 8 properly.
Another reason is attention. If you are busy thinking about your homework while putting your keys somewhere, your brain might not even 9 the action. It’s like trying to take a photo with your eyes closed—you won’t capture anything clear. To improve memory, we need to be “in the moment”.
Sleep also plays a huge role. During sleep, our brain 10 the day’s events. It moves important information from short-term memory to long-term memory. That’s why students who pull all-nighters often 11 poorly on tests; their brains didn’t have time to “save” the information.
Finally, retrieval(检索)practice helps. Trying to remember something without looking at your notes forces your brain to 12 the pathways to that memory. The more you practice retrieving, the stronger the memory becomes. So, next time you want to check your phone for an answer immediately, try to 13 it first. Your brain will thank you!
Understanding these 14 can help us study smarter. By focusing our attention, getting enough rest, and practicing retrieval, we can make our memories sharper and more 15 . After all, memory is not just a record of the past; it is a tool for the future.

根据上文“Emotional events...are usually stored very well.”
根据本段主题“Another reason is attention.”及下文“like trying to take a photo with your eyes closed”可知,缺乏注意力导致大脑没有“注意到”(notice)动作。
首段原句“our brain has different systems for processing memories(大脑处理记忆)”,原词复现选process。
perform on tests/exams
根据下文“The more you practice retrieving, the stronger the memory becomes.”

前文“I thought I was helping others”体现情感上的相互治愈,应选用lifted,表示“鼓舞、激励、使振奋”,符合语境。

Do your eyes jump a few times a second over a period of time? A jumping eye can happen to anybody at any time. There are several reasons for a jumping eye. Let’s have a look at it!
Tiredness
Not getting enough sleep or working for too long without rest may cause our eyes to complain. Scientists aren’t sure why, but they’ve found that getting more rest will make our eyes feel better. Remember not to stay up late.
Dry eyes
More and more people work office jobs that require a lot of sitting and starting at a computer screen. This unhealthy way of life can lead to dry eye syndrome (DES干眼症). When our eyes are too dry, they can’t help jumping to keep them wet. To stay away from DES, use eye drops if you use the computer for more than seven hours a day and make sure to look away from the screen once every 20 minutes.
Stress (压力)
This is the number-one reason for a jumping eye. It does harm to our eyes if it lasts for too long. When we’re under a lot of stress, the body gives out stress hormones (荷尔蒙) which leads to a “fight or flight” response (回应). To solve the problem, we can see our friends or relax ourselves in order to reduce the stress that might lead to jumping eyes.
29.How can we stay away from DES according to the passage?
A.Keep staring at the computer screen.
B.Use eye drops as often as possible.
C.Look away from the screen once every 20 minutes.
D.Use the computer for more than seven hours every day.
30.What can stress do to us according to Table (表格)3?
A.Stress is good when we go to see our friends.
B.Too much stress might be harmful to our eyes.
C.A lot of stress helps our body relax.
D.Too much stress is always important to our eyes.
31.What does the writer try to explain in this passage?
A.Three reasons why we have jumping eyes.
B.The number-one reason for a jumping eye.
C.The importance of getting enough sleep.
D.Some useful ways to reduce stress.

根据“When we’re under a lot of stress, the body gives out stress hormones (荷尔蒙) ...”
根据“There are several reasons for a jumping eye. Let’s have a look at it!” 故选A。

One beautiful winter morning, a little boy of 10 years old or so went to a grocery shop to make a telephone call. Clearly, he changed his tone of voice while speaking over the phone. When all this was happening, the store owner observed and listened with great interest to the conversation that followed:
“Madam, I am a poor boy. Can you give me a job cutting grass on your lawn?” the little boy asked.
“Sorry, I already have someone to cut my lawn,” the woman at the other end of the phone line replied.

Everybody knows how important it is for students to get a good night’s sleep every night. You aren’t able to do your best and keep up with all of your tasks unless you sleep well. I’m sure you already know that you should go to bed at a proper hour. Most experts agree that the best number of hours is eight, and this has been accepted as common sense. However, I was young once and I know that most of you get much less sleep than that—and in some cases it will influence your schoolwork.
I read an interesting article in a teacher’s magazine recently. They did a study of 848 students in Wales. Worryingly, the results showed that teenagers are facing a new problem. They may go to bed and get up at suitable times, but a growing number are waking up in the middle of the night, not to use the bathroom or have a snack but because of a new phenomenon (现象): FOMO—Fear Of Missing Out!
According to the article, schoolchildren are suffering because of a growing trend (趋势) to wake up during the night to check their phones. Afraid of missing a reply or chance to join in a chat, teenagers are waking at all times of the night, going online. All this happens when they should be sound asleep.
Experts are worried about this growing trend and the report shows some worrying facts that I’d like to share with you:
»23% of 12 to 15-year-olds wake up nearly every night to use phones. Another 15% wake up at night once a week for the same reason.
»One in three students are always tired and unable to study well.
»Students who use phones during the night are more possible to suffer from depression (抑郁) and anxiety.
So switch off your phones at night. The world won’t end. I give you my word that you won’t miss anything important.
36.From the passage we know that it is very important for students to ________.
A.have too much homework every day B.get a good night’s sleep every night
C.join in an online chat every night D.wake up early every night to use phones
37.Students won’t be able to study well ________.
A.if they don’t sleep well B.if they have phones in class
C.if they don’t use common sense D.if they have a sound sleep
38.The writer is worried by ________.
A.what an expert has told him B.what he is seeing with his pupils
C.what he has read in the magazine D.what other teachers have told him

“Madam, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now”
“I’m very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn. He is doing a good job.”
“Madam, I’ll even sweep your curb, so on Sunday you will have the prettiest lawn in all of Palm beach, Florida.”
“No, thank you.”
Instead of getting angry, the little boy smiled and put back the receiver gently.
The store owner, who was listening to the conversation, walked over to the boy and said, “Son, I like your attitude (态度) and I would like to offer you a job.”
“No, thanks. But I appreciate your offer.”
“But you were really pleading for a job when you were talking to the lady over the phone.”
“No sir, I was just checking my performance on the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!” the little boy replied.

C.what he has read in the magazine D.what other teachers have told him
39.Research shows that schoolchildren are tired because they ________.
A.are going to bed very late B.are eating snacks at night
C.are getting up too early in the morning D.are waking up in the middle of the night
40.Fear Of Missing Out is ________.
A.a feeling of not going out at night B.a fear of missing the newest phones
C.a feeling of not keeping up with your tasks D.a fear of missing chances of chatting online

A simple way to relax each day is by curling up with a book in a comfortable zone. Having a space free of distractions (干扰) such as electronic tools and noise can make it easier to focus, and a place that’s comfortable and personalized can make reading feel more like an enjoyable activity than a task. You don’t need a huge amount of space at home to set up a reading nook (角落). Here’s how you can get started.
Find a comfortable place
Your reading nook could be a corner, a comfortable chair, a bean bag, or your bed. With an adult’s help, borrow something from around your home that would make your area comfortable. You can add a throw pillow or a soft blanket and your favorite stuffy. Other personal things to help you feel relaxed might be a photo of your family or pet, or a small piece of artwork that you make or admire.
Get the right light
You’ll want enough lighting for your reading corner so you don’t need to keep your eyes open wide to see the words clearly on the page. With an adult’s help, you can move a floor lamp beside or behind the area where you’ll be curled up with a book. Or place a lamp with an adjustable arm over your reading area. If you’re reading in bed, you can set up a simple book light or use a flashlight to read under the covers.
Prepare your books
The most important item you need for your reading nook, of course, is a book! You can keep a book within reach on a nightstand or a small table. Or make it a small pile of books so you can choose one according to your mood. One of the titles could be a fantasy novel, another might be a detective novel, while another could be a travel story filled with amazing experiences.
Read anywhere
You can create a “book nook” almost anywhere. Put a book and a blanket in a backpack to bring to a park, or bring a book and a comfortable pillow on a long trip. You can also talk to your family about downloading an audiobook you can all enjoy together on car rides.

Do you ever feel like you are just running from one activity to another? When things happen so fast, it is important for you to s 65 yourself from time to time and then to think about what you’ve been doing or learning.
Self-reflection means slowing down and calming yourself. In this way, you can give your mind a c 66 to look at the things that it has already received. Some people prefer to do the self-reflection only in their mind. O 67 would rather write notes. It is decided by your own learning and thinking habits. Here are some tips on self-reflection in your study.
Use natural periods in your textbooks to help reflect. School textbooks are often d 68 into units and it makes your self-reflection easier. A 69 finishing a unit, write down some notes on the new things that you have learnt in the unit. Let your mind think deeply about the notes and make some connections. This will allow you to quickly get the information back.
Next, think about things that you are unsure of. For example may be you learned about a certain body part, but you’re not sure how it w 70 together with the other body parts. P 71 you learned a new way to solve a maths problem, but you’re not sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help remind you to look for answers by studying further.

A.what an expert has told him B.what he is seeing with his pupils
C.what he has read in the magazine D.what other teachers have told him
39.Research shows that schoolchildren are tired because they ________.
A.are going to bed very late B.are eating snacks at night
C.are getting up too early in the morning D.are waking up in the middle of the night
40.Fear Of Missing Out is ________.
