Also, tell them that you need some free time to relax, which is also important for your study efficiency.
Best regards.

A
Do you remember the first time you rode a bike? Most people do. Memories like these are stored in our long-term memory. But how does our brain decide what to keep and what to throw away?
Scientists say that emotions (情感) play a big role. We are more likely to remember things that made us feel very happy, very scared, or very 1 . For example, you probably remember your first day at school clearly because you felt nervous and excited. On the other hand, you might 2 what you ate for lunch last Tuesday because it wasn’t very special.
Another factor is repetition (重复). If you hear a piece of information once, it might stay in your short-term memory for a few seconds. But if you review it again and again, it moves into your long-term memory. That’s why 3 the same vocabulary words every day helps you remember them for a test.
Sleep is also important for memory. While we sleep, our brain 4 the day’s events and decides what to keep. Studies show that students who get enough sleep before an exam often get 5 grades than those who stay up late studying. Their brains have had time to “save” the information properly.
Interestingly, our senses can trigger (触发) memories. A certain smell, like freshly baked bread, might suddenly remind you of your grandmother’s kitchen. This is because the parts of the brain that handle smell and memory are closely 6 .
However, memory isn’t perfect. Sometimes we remember things that didn’t actually happen, or we mix up details. This is called a false memory. For example, if someone tells you a story about your childhood often enough, you might start to “remember” it, even if you weren’t really there.
Understanding how memory works can help us improve it. By staying organized, getting enough rest, and connecting new information to things we already know, we can make our memories 7 and more reliable. After all, our memories make us who we are—they are our personal history books.

根据“On the other hand”及“wasn’t very special”可知,此处与前文“remember... clearly”形成对比,表示不特别的事情容易遗忘。
looking up “查阅”、making up“编造”、taking over“接管”均不符合语境。

My First Travel Brochure Project
Last month, our English teacher assigned a group project: design a travel brochure introducing a place with rich traditional culture. At first, I thought it would be an easy task—just print some photos and copy introduction texts online. I never realized how much careful work this small project 8 until our group started to prepare materials together.
Our group chose an ancient water town as our destination. We planned to collect photos, local food stories and handcraft activity guides. At the beginning, we only searched simple short articles online, and our draft brochure looked empty and boring. Our teacher reminded us that a great travel brochure must 9 real personal travel experience instead of copied online words. So we decided to take a one-day trip to the water town to collect first-hand materials ourselves.
When we arrived, we walked along riverside streets, chatted with craft masters and tried local rice cakes. We took photos of old stone bridges and bamboo workshops, and wrote down every warm story villagers told us. Before this project, I always believed travel writing and brochure design only 10 beautiful pictures and fancy words. But this field trip taught me true attractive travel materials come from real communication with local people.
We spent three afternoons organizing all collected information and designing the layout. We drew hand-made maps and divided our brochure into clear parts: general introduction, food recommendations, outdoor activities and transport tips. We did not copy popular online sentences, 11 every paragraph was written by our own group members with our true feelings.
When we finished the first draft, we found many facts were unclear. We 12 the local shop owners online to confirm opening hours and activity prices, and corrected all mistakes carefully. On the presentation day, our brochure won the first prize in the class competition.
This project completely changed my opinion of travel writing and design. I used to think making brochures was just a simple school task, 13 now I understand it is a great way to explore culture and practise English. Beautiful pictures cannot carry real cultural charm. The true value of travel creation lies in the time and heart you put into collecting real stories.
Now whenever I read travel journals or brochures, I will pay more attention to the writer’s personal experience. I no longer ignore small local stories 14 I make travel materials. Those real, warm stories are the most touching parts that readers will 15 for a long time.

What do you want to be when you grow up? A study shows that more than 80% of children want to choose jobs they often see around them, like doctors and teachers—with teachers topping the list of kids’ dream jobs. But jobs such as cartoonists appear in less than 7% of their answers. This “visibility bias” holds back our imagination—we often overlook (忽视) jobs hidden outside our daily lives.
Choosing a career (职业) is important because it needs to bring both income (收入) and job satisfaction (满足感). If you don’t enjoy your job, your life won’t be as happy as you wish it to be. Try looking into different possibilities! Your dream job might be something you’ve never heard of before.
How can you start? First, think about your interests and strengths. These will help shape your future work. If numbers excite you, maybe you can be a scientist. If storytelling comes naturally, writing or filmmaking could be your path. And remember to talk to teachers, parents and friends. They can share ideas about different jobs.
Also, think about future trends (趋势). Many jobs today, like website builders, weren’t around 50 years ago. New jobs, like AI ethics advisors (伦理顾问) might appear when you grow up. So, besides learning school subjects, you should develop skills like creativity and critical thinking.
You don’t have to wait to plan. Join clubs, read books, or watch videos about different jobs. Remember: big dreams start with small actions. Whether you want to change the world or find happiness, planning today will help you reach your dreams tomorrow!
29.What does the underlined phrase “visibility bias” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.A habit of only choosing jobs that pay a lot of money.
B.A way of only noticing jobs that are often seen in daily life.
C.A problem of forgetting about jobs one has heard of before.
D.A mistake of thinking some jobs are easier than others.
30.Which of the following best describes the structure of the passage?
A.①/②/③④/⑤ B.①/②③/④/⑤
C.①②/③/④/⑤ D.①/②/③/④⑤
31.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Most kids dream of becoming cartoonists because they are creative.
B.Job satisfaction is more important than income when choosing a career.
C.New jobs like website builders will disappear in the near future.
D.We should think about our interests and future trends when planning a career.
【答案】29.B 30.A 31.D
第一段中“want to choose jobs they often see around them”以及后文解释“overlook jobs hidden outside our daily lives”,可知“visibility bias”指的是倾向于只关注日常生活中常见的职业。
根据第三段“think about your interests and strengths”和第四段“think about future trends”可知,规划职业时应综合考虑兴趣和未来趋势。
C
Every Saturday evening growing up, my family and I gathered around my grandmother’s long dining table for delicious homemade food. There were loud conversations and games with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. I loved these nights.
It was always special to spend the night at my grandmother’s house after one of these gatherings. I would stay there alone, without any of my three cousins. My grandmother would pay no attention to the mess. She set up a bed for me on the floor of her bedroom. Both of us read until our eyes wouldn’t stay open any longer.
The next morning, we woke up, ate bread, and got to work. She would spend the morning cleaning after each family party the night before. Some of my earliest memories include her rolling out the big vacuum cleaner (吸尘器) down the long hall. She’d do the dishes while I got to clean the table. And we’d flatten the cans together.
As I’ve entered my thirties and begun hosting friends of my own, I have adopted my grandmother’s cleaning method. I’ll never clean the night of the party. My mind deeply refuses it—only allowing a pile of dirty dishes to sit next to the sink (洗涤槽) after I’ve said goodbye to my guests and locked the gate. Then I go to bed with my partner and our cats, and we lose ourselves in the night of nice talks, close moments, and joy. On Sunday mornings, I roll out the vacuum cleaner, do the dishes, and play some music. It’s relaxing.
This is the type of cleaning that’s just for me—the kind meant to settle and absorb (吸收) the conversations and events of the night. I’m confident it strengthens the memories of the good times, too. A little more partying first and cleaning later. I advise you to try it sometime.
32.What was special to the writer when she was young?
A.Playing games with her cousins. B.Eating with her whole family.
C.Spending the night at her grandma’s. D.Going home without her cousins.
33.What is the writer’s grandmother’s cleaning method?
A.Leaving cleaning to the next day. B.Doing the cleaning with partners.
C.Listening to music while cleaning. D.Cleaning up after the guests leave.
34.What can we infer (推断) about the writer’s cleaning after parties now?
A.It is often done with her guests’ help.
B.It makes her feel stressed about the mess.
C.It takes her much longer than her grandmother’s.
D.It helps her think of the happy time from the party.
35.Which of the following best shows the main idea of the passage?
A.Childhood memories with family are the most valuable treasures in one’s life.
B.Cleaning the day after a party is more relaxing than cleaning on party night.
C.Hosting friends at home can create happy moments and strengthen relationships.
D.A loved one’s daily habit may be passed down, becoming meaningful for you.
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.D 35.D

No one knows when the first kite was made. The first record of a kite was more than 2,000 years ago in China. Han Xin, the leader of an army, wanted to bring down a king. He decided to dig a tunnel (隧道) into the king’s palace. He flew a kite over the wall of the palace to make sure the length of its string (线). In this way, he could determine how long the tunnel should be. His men in the tunnel took the kite string with them. When they reached the end of the string, they knew to dig up.
Kites have been flown in Japan for hundreds of years. In the 1700s, kites were flown in autumn to give thanks for a good harvest. They were also flown to send good wishes to couples who had their first son. Today in Japan, kites are often flown as part of a celebration, such as the beginning of a new year. And kite festivals are held each year in many parts of the country.
Kites have been used for scientific purposes in the Western world. In 1752, Benjamin Franklin tied a key to a kite and flew it in a storm to find out that lightning was a form of electricity.
Look! Growing up is often seen as a journey with different stages (阶段). As we pass through each one, our understanding of “making it” changes. Here’s a look at each stage and the surprising lessons they teach us about life and growth.
Primary School: “Almost Done”
In primary school, life is simple. With praise from teachers and small achievements, children are often led to believe that they have almost mastered (掌握) what they need for the future. “Almost done” perfectly expresses this sense, since each year they achieve something new, like learning to spell or completing a book.
Children may feel great at this stage, but it’s only the start of their journey, preparing them for future challenges and learning.
High School: “Very Close (接近)”
High school brings a new level of responsibility and choice. Students face more important tests, begin thinking about careers, and learn to be on their own. At this stage, many believe they’re “very close” to adulthood.
In fact, high school is for trying new things, not being perfect at them. Students are introduced to many sides of life but still have much to learn.
University: “Yes!”
University or college is a great achievement, and completing a degree (学位) often feels like climbing to the top. With specialized knowledge and skills, many students believe they're fully prepared to face the world.
The “Yes!” moment of graduation soon gives way to the reality that a degree is just one part of the bigger picture in building a wonderful career and life.
Life: “What!”
Upon entering the “real world”, young people often feel the challenges of life hard to deal with. Grown-up life doesn’t come with a guidebook. Responsibilities like managing your money, keeping friendships, balancing work and life and staying well require skills not fully taught in school.
This stage teaches us that life is about never stopping learning. To do it well, we must be ready to adjust our courses (调整航线), understand our own hearts, and know when to change directions.
The truth about growing up is that each stage brings new lessons and challenges, from the ABCs and 123s to the discovery that success is a lifelong journey. Take this journey with an open mind, enjoy the ride, and be ready to learn from everything that happens.
What growing up really 56 us

31.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Most kids dream of becoming cartoonists because they are creative.
B.Job satisfaction is more important than income when choosing a career.
C.New jobs like website builders will disappear in the near future.
D.We should think about our interests and future trends when planning a career.

The Wright brothers also experimented (试验) with kites. What they learnt helped them make the first airplane flight in 1903.

What growing up really 56 us
Growing up isn’t a straight path to success. Each stage of life brings new challenges and 57 our understanding of success.
Different stages
Primary School
Children often come to believe they have well 58 for the future. But that’s far from the full picture.
High School
Students get more responsibility and choice by taking exams, thinking about careers, and learning to depend on 59 . Although they think it is close to adult life, the stage is only about trying.
University
Many students feel like 60 the top when graduating. However, they soon realize that a degree is not 61 for a wonderful career and life.
Life
It’s natural to feel unprepared for real life challenges. And this reminds you to 62 learning outside the classroom.
There is no end to growing up. Stay open to what is to come, find 63 from it and know there will always be more to learn and experience.
Do you think you are close to success? Please share at least one reason.
