Listen to the next question. Good morning, everyone. I hope you're all feeling OK after the activities last week. I know you've all been working hard recently, especially with the wedding last weekend and the trade fair straight after that. And now we have only three days to prepare for the birthday party this weekend. At the moment, we don't have exact numbers of guests, and though we usually receive groups of less than fifty, we will have quite a few more than that, but we won't go over the maximum of one hundred. So what time will the event start? Well, the invitation says gas should arrive between seven thirty and seven forty five, but our experiences that there are always a few who like to arrive early, so will expect the first people at seven fifteen. As the numbers are quite large, this will certainly be the case. Food will be served at around eight thirty, and then depending on how long the meal takes, the entertainment will start about two hours later. So let's get started on the preparations. I'll have the detailed assignment set out within an hour. Thanks, everyone, and let's make this another memorable celebration. Good morning, everyone. J. K. Rowling frequently shows there is magic every day. Her Harry Potter series has helped people through times of stress and depression and she is always there to deliver wise words of encouragement.
She is one celebrity who is very active on Twitter. So when a single dad named Matt Burke sent her a message thanking her for the series, she noticed. Her series had helped strengthen his relationship with his 9yearold daughter Bailey.
He included a link to his article titled Being a Broke Parent. He explained how he hadn’t found a level of financial stability that allowed him to pay bills on time and take his daughter on more activities and events. The family also doesn’t have the Internet or TV, which means there’s no “digital babysitter” and he has to rely on his own creative ways to bond with his daughter. Since he received the series, the main thing that has occupied them these days is reading books together.
Burke admits that he thought he was “too cool” for the books when they first came out and he was in his twenties, but he’s loving reading them now. “We switch off chapter by chapter reading them out loud,“Burke explains.” This not only allows her to get more used to reading aloud in front of someone, but it gets me directly involved in something she loves, and it gives me the chance to be very dramatic when I read my chapters and bring myself into the characters in the book, which has proven to be a ton of fun.”
After hearing Burke’s story, Rowling said how honored she was when Harry Potter was a part of his family’s life and offered Burke more books. Besides, people are also offering to send Burke more books as gifts. For Burke, this experience, far more than gifts, will be what he treasures.
24.Why did Burke thank J. K. Rowling according to the text?
A.She guided him how to write a good story.
B.She encouraged him when he was in trouble.
C.Her books helped him through times of confusion.
D.Her books helped him improve his bond with his daughter.
25.What is implied in Burke’s words in paragraph 4?
A.He has found it interesting to read the series. B.He was too old to understand the series better.
C.He has chosen a better way of reading the series. D.He hopes to play a role in the drama in the future.
26.Which word can best describe Burke’s experience according to the text?
A.Useless. B.Normal. C.Valuable. D.Boring.
27.What is the main idea of this text?
A.J. K. Rowling chooses to help improve kids’ health.
B.J. K. Rowling gives a magical gift to a single father.
C.J. K. Rowling has a deep influence on others’ growth.
D.Burke comes to know J. K. Rowling through her series.

A major reason why plastic bags and yogurt containers aren’t recycled is that it’s much more frugal to make these products from the ground up (从头开始) than to recover them. A new recycling technique reported in the journal Science promises a cost-effective way to transform these common plastic waste items into high-quality liquid fuels.
What makes plastics useful, namely their strength and resistance to high temperatures, becomes an annoyance when it comes to recycling the materials. The strong carbon-carbon bonds in these plastics require very high temperatures to break, making the process energy-consuming. Once the bonds break, the smaller molecules (分子) that are created quickly form new bonds, giving unwanted chemicals. These side products then have to be broken down again, adding time and complexity.
Researchers developed a way to turn these plastics into useful fuels at temperatures below 100℃, without creating any side products. They conduct the chemical reaction in the presence of a new type of catalyst (催化剂) in a special acidic solution. In these reaction conditions, as soon as the carbon bonds in the plastic break apart, new bonds form in a controlled way, giving off the chemicals called alkanes. The alkanes can be used either as a fuel or as a raw material for new plastics. The entire reaction takes place in a single reaction container. It takes only three hours and occurs at 70℃. By comparison, existing recycling techniques typically require two stages, take much longer and need temperatures of over 200℃.
The catalyst that the researchers use is already used by some factories. But it will take more research to know whether the technique can be translated to more occasions. If so, such a one-step, low-cost method to turn single-use plastics into chemicals, fuels and high-value materials could go a long way in making the plastic economy sustainable.
28.What does the underlined word “frugal” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Typical. B.Reliable. C.Expensive. D.Economical.
29.What can we know about plastics from Paragraph 2?
A.They stretch easily and quickly. B.They fail to resist heat perfectly.
C.They are chemically stable. D.They produce deadly gases.
30.What is the main feature of the new way of recycling plastics?
A.Keeping new bonds from forming. B.Requiring high-temperature conditions.
C.Stressing cleanliness and speed. D.Extending the functions of plastics.
31.What is the researchers’ attitude toward the technique’s wide application?
A.Unconcerned. B.Cautious. C.Hopeless. D.Opposed.

What do you eat when you need comfort? The answer varies depending on where you’re from, but it’s likely some form of broth (肉汤), served steaming in a bowl.
Across continents, broths are woven into cultural and familial memory. They rarely command attention on their own — yet they form the backbone of countless cuisines.
For Dara Klein, a chef in London, broth connects the threads between her early childhood memories in Italy and her life’s work. In Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region, tortellini in brodo is a Christmas tradition. Families gather to shape the pasta by hand while the broth simmers. “Italians are introduced to broth very early in life,” Klein says. “People connect to it deeply.”
Zoey Xinyi Gong, a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) food therapist, remembers her grandmother’s chicken soup with goji berries. “There’s always a soup for every meal,” Gong says. “A meal is not complete without soup.” In TCM, which dates back to the 2nd century BC, broth-based soups help maintain the body’s yin and yang — a balance essential for health.
Chicken soup, in particular, has long been associated with recovery. Korea’s samgye-tang is eaten during the hottest summer days as a restorative meal. Greece’s avgolemono combines chicken broth with egg, lemon and rice. Mexico’s caldo de pate is a sustaining everyday soup.
Scientific research into broth’s benefits is ongoing. Some studies suggest it may help reduce inflammation and ease cold symptoms. However, many sweeping health claims surrounding bone broth remain contested, and its benefits are often overstated in popular wellness culture.
Gong recalls being shocked when bone broth became a trendy health product in New York. “They were selling it at coffee shops for $10 for little cups,” she says. “But we’ve been drinking that for a very long time in China.”
Whether simmered for survival, wellness or celebration, one thing seems universal: In kitchens everywhere, someone is still tending the pot.
32.What does Dara Klein say about broth in Italian culture?
A.It is a recent cooking invention.
B.It is only served during Christmas.
C.It was first documented in royal courts.
D.It has deep emotional and traditional roots.
33.What can be inferred about soup in Chinese culture from Gong’s words and TCM principles?
A.It is considered essential but primarily for its flavor.
B.It is only consumed when someone is feeling unwell.
C.It is valued as a tool for maintaining physical harmony.
D.It has been replaced by modern medicine in recent years.
34.What is the author’s attitude toward the health claims made in popular wellness culture?
A.Complete rejection. B.Cautious skepticism.
C.Neutral observation. D.Enthusiastic support.
35.Which phrase or idiom most closely reflects the main idea of the passage?
A.There is no place like home.
B.One man’s meat is another man’s poison.
C.The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
D.A spoonful of comfort — across lands and tongues. C.Followed. D.Shaped.
We’re all taught from a young age to say sorry when we make mistakes and to say thank you when someone does something kind. Yet over the years, “I’m sorry” seems to have multiplied, while “thank you” has almost disappeared. We apologize for many silly things. Someone knocks into us — we say sorry. We miss a phone call — we say sorry. This constant apologizing has gotten out of control. 36
Of course, we should still apologize when we truly make a mistake or when we hurt someone. 37 But many apologies are not necessary. They happen automatically, almost without thought. We do it to avoid conflict. We do it because we’ve been taught that politeness matters above all else. We assume that saying sorry will make people feel good.
38 Sometimes unnecessary apologies make everything awkward. They distract us from the real issue and even weaken our relationships. If we are always saying sorry, will our true apologies still sound sincere? Probably not. And when we apologize for things that aren’t our fault, we only make ourselves feel worse.
Yet something changes when we start saying thank you instead and confidence grows. We stop trying to please everyone. 39 It helps us value what we have and judge ourselves less harshly. It reminds us that there is still good in the world — and in ourselves. And soon, the people around us will notice a change in our attitude.
Replacing sorry with thank you is a small change with a big impact. 40 It improves how we feel and how others respond to us. And if everyone took a moment to sincerely express thank you each day, the world might quickly become a kinder place.
A.However, we ignore our own feelings.
B.Gratitude also shifts our perspective.
C.It needs to stop.
D.However, it doesn’t always work that way.
E.This has always been true and will never change.
F.A simple word shapes our mindset and relationships.
G.We try to put ourselves in others’ shoes.

Although Pilotti had no Chinese language skills or background in Peking Opera, teachers from the academy helped him 47 the fundamentals of the performing art form through strict teaching.
Traditional Chinese stories 48 Pilotti. He has created two theatre pieces in recent years — a story about the Monkey King, the omnipotent (全能的) character from the novel Journey to the West; and Jingwei, a mythic (神话的) character who turns into a bird, and 49 to fill the sea.
In The Monkey King, Pilotti shows the character’s naughty 50 through Peking Opera movements, 51 his young audience members to be themselves. “The Monkey King is a famous character with many adaptations, so the kids already know a bit about him. But, when they can see the character closely in the show, it can be a 52 .”
“My dream now is to do more cultural exchanges and maybe create a show where Chinese Peking Opera and Swedish actors perform together,” Pilotti says. I’ve always known my mother was creative and kind. Growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, Mom, Janice Goldstein, would always volunteer to make costumes for class plays. And it wasn’t just my costume; she’d make outfits for the entire class, stitching (用针线缝) and knitting late into the night. I’d often find her asleep in her chair, needles still clutched in her hands, surrounded by piles of colorful threads and half-finished masterpieces. I took her dedication to crafting for granted, unaware of the countless hours of love and effort she poured into each creation.
Unfortunately, in 2017, Mom lost the use of the right side of her body and started using a wheelchair because of the sudden illness. The woman who once filled our home with laughter and warmth became a shadow of herself, and the needles and fabrics that were once her constant companions then laid untouched, gathering dust. Two years ago, I sold her place and moved her into a smaller home. While packing, I found three unfinished knitted sweaters. Instantly, I knew who they were for — the blue-and-white one was Mom’s, the all-purple one was mine, and the patterned one was for my daughter.
I took them to a local knitting store, hoping someone could finish them. The staff there connected me with another shop. That’s when a worker asked, “Have you ever heard of Loose Ends?” I shook my head; I’d never been into crafting like Mom.
Curiosity got the better of me, so I visited “Loose Ends”. The cozy shop was filled with colorful yarns and half-done projects. There, I met Mrs. Thompson and her team of kind volunteers. When I told them Mom’s story, my voice catching in my throat, Mrs. Thompson reached out and placed a comforting hand on my arm. Her eyes welled up as she listened intently. “We’d be honored to finish these,” she said gently. “It’s not just a task — it’s about preserving the love in every stitch.”

Good morning, everyone. I hope you’re all feeling okay after the activities last week. I know you’ve all been working hard recently, especially with the wedding last weekend and the trade fair straight after that. And now we have only three days to prepare for the birthday party this weekend. At the moment, we don’t have exact numbers of guests. And though we usually receive groups of less than 50, we will have quite a few more than that, but we won’t go over the maximum of 100. So what time will the event start? Well, the invitation says guests should arrive between 7:30 and 7:45. But our experience is that there are always a few who like to arrive early, so we’ll expect the first people at 7:15. As the numbers are quite large, this will certainly be the case. Food will be served at around 8:30. And then depending on how long the meal takes, the entertainment will start about two hours later. So let’s get started on the preparations. I’ll have the detailed assignments sent out within an hour. Thanks, everyone, and let’s make this another memorable celebration.

B.Cautious. C.Hopeless. D.Opposed.
根据第一段中的“A major reason why plastic bags and yogurt containers aren’t recycled is that it’s much more frugal to make these products from the ground up (从头开始) than to recover them.(塑料袋和酸奶盒未被回收的一个主要原因是,从头开始制造这些产品比回收利用它们要frugal得多。)”
根据第二段中的“The strong carbon-carbon bonds in these plastics require very high temperatures to break, making the process energy-consuming.(塑料中牢固的碳碳键需要极高温度才能断裂,这使得回收过程十分耗能。)”
根据第三段中的“Researchers developed a way to turn these plastics into useful fuels at temperatures below 100℃, without creating any side products.(研究人员开发了一种在100℃以下将这些塑料转化为有用燃料的方法,且不产生任何副产物。)”以及“It takes only three hours and occurs at 70℃.(仅需三小时即可完成,且反应温度为 70℃。)”
根据最后一段中的“But it will take more research to know whether the technique can be translated to more occasions.(但要了解这项技术能否推广到更多场合,还需要更多的研究。)”

根据原文第三段“Italians are introduced to broth very early in life,” Klein says. “People connect to it deeply.”(Klein说:“意大利人从小就接触肉汤,人们对它有着深厚的情感。”)
根据原文第四段“In TCM, which dates back to the 2nd century BC, broth-based soups help maintain the body’s yin and yang—a balance essential for health.(追溯至公元前 2 世纪的中医认为,各类汤品有助于维持人体阴阳平衡,而这种平衡是健康的关键。)”
根据原文第六段“However, many sweeping health claims surrounding bone broth remain contested, and its benefits are often overstated in popular wellness culture.(然而,许多关于骨汤的宽泛健康说法仍存有争议,在当下流行的养生文化中,它的功效也常常被夸大。)”
根据原文第一段“What do you eat when you need comfort? The answer varies depending on where you’re from, but it’s likely some form of broth, served steaming in a bowl.(当你想要寻求慰藉时,会吃些什么?答案因人而异,但多半是一碗热气腾腾的肉汤。)”及全文内容可知,文章围绕肉汤展开,讲述它在不同国家、不同文化中都能给人带来慰藉,因此最贴合文章主旨的是 “一勺慰藉,跨越地域与语言”。
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
36.根据上文“We apologize for many silly things. Someone knocks into us—we say sorry. We miss a phone call — we say sorry. This constant apologizing has gotten out of control.(我们会为很多愚蠢的事情道歉。有人撞到我们——我们说对不起。我们错过了一个电话——我们说对不起。这种不断的道歉已经失控了。)”可知,这里描述了人们过度道歉的情况,说明这种过度道歉的现象需要改变。C选项“这需要停止。”承接上文,指出过度道歉这种情况应该停止。
37.根据上文“Of course, we should still apologize when we truly make a mistake or when we hurt someone.(当然,当我们真的犯了错误或伤害了别人时,我们还是应该道歉。)”可知,在真正犯错或伤害他人时应道歉;下文“But many apologies are not necessary.(但很多道歉是不必要的。)”
38.根据上文“We assume that saying sorry will make people feel good.(我们认为说对不起会让人感觉好。)” They distract us from the real issue and even weaken our relationships.(有时不必要的道歉会让一切变得尴尬。它们分散我们对真正问题的注意力,甚至削弱我们的人际关系。)”可知,这里阐述了不必要道歉带来的负面效果,说明道歉并不总是能带来好的结果。D选项“然而,情况并不总是这样。”承上启下,表明道歉并不总是像人们认为的那样能让人感觉好。
39.根据上文“Yet something changes when we start saying thank you instead and confidence grows. We stop trying to please everyone.(然而,当我们开始说“谢谢”而不是道歉时,情况就发生了变化,自信也增强了。我们不再试图取悦每个人。)”可知,这里说明了说“谢谢”带来的积极变化;再结合下文“It helps us value what we have and judge ourselves less harshly. It reminds us that there is still good in the world — and in ourselves. And soon, the people around us will notice a change in our attitude.(它帮助我们珍惜我们所拥有的,并减少对自己的严厉判断。它提醒我们,世界上——以及我们自己身上——仍然有美好的东西。很快,我们周围的人会注意到我们态度的变化。)”可知,这里进一步阐述了说“谢谢”的好处,即,改变我们的观点。B选项“感恩也会改变我们的观点。”同样表示感恩的好处,其中的Gratitude与上文的saying thank you相呼应,shifts our perspective引出了下文关于说谢谢如何改变我们观点的具体内容。
40.根据上文“Replacing sorry with thank you is a small change with a big impact.(用“谢谢”代替“对不起”是一个影响巨大的小变化。)”可知,这里强调了用“谢谢”代替“对不起”这个小变化带来的大影响;再结合下文“It improves how we feel and how others respond to us. And if everyone took a moment to sincerely express gratitude each day, the world might quickly become a kinder place.(它改善了我们的感受以及他人对我们的回应。如果每个人每天都花点时间真诚地表达感激之情,世界可能会很快变得更友善。)”可知,这里进一步阐述了这种小变化带来的具体好处,即,影响我们的心态和人际关系。F选项“一个简单的词塑造了我们的心态和人际关系。”符合语境,其中的A simple word指代上文的thank you和sorry, shapes our mindset and relationships引出了下文关于这种简单词汇如何影响我们心态和人际关系的内容。

World Heritage Site,be related to是固定搭配,表“与……

Dear Mr. Zhang,
I am writing to propose a specific activity for the upcoming “Healthy Eating Week.” I suggest we organize a “21-Day Healthy Breakfast Challenge.”
My recommendation is based on three key reasons. Firstly, breakfast is the most commonly skipped meal among students, directly affecting our energy and concentration. This challenge can help us establish a crucial habit. Secondly, by using a simple check-in app or chart, the activity becomes interactive and fosters a supportive community spirit. Finally, participants can share simple, quick recipes, making healthy eating practical and sustainable beyond the event itself.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Para 1: Over the next weeks, I kept returning to the shop.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Para 2: Finally, the day came when the sweaters were done.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Over the next weeks, I kept returning to the shop. Seated beside Mrs. Thompson, I attentively observed her skilled hands maneuvering the knitting needles, absorbing every basic knitting technique she demonstrated. As they worked on Mom’s sweaters, matching stitches and adding details, I was moved by how they treated each stitch with such care. Then I became more involved, helping to choose the right colors of yarn and adding small decorative elements. I felt a deep connection to Mom’s lost passion.
Finally, the day came when the sweaters were done. I rushed to Mom’s place. Her eyes widened with surprise and joy as I presented the finished sweaters, and she ran her trembling left hand over the sweaters. That evening, I put on my purple sweater, and my daughter wore that patterned one. Wrapped in warmth and love, I decided to pay it forward. I began organizing knitting sessions for others with unfinished projects. Through this timeless art of knitting, I hope to keep Mom’s spirit alive and connect hearts, one stitch at a time.

Dear Mr. Zhang,
I am writing to propose a specific activity for the upcoming “Healthy Eating Week.” I suggest we organize a “21-Day Healthy Breakfast Challenge.”
Yours,
Li Hua
