It aims to have a system of 49 parks covering 1.1 million km² by 2035, about three times the size of the US National Park System. So far, China has officially established five national parks. Here is a look at them, all of which are worth a visit. Name Area (km2) Features Giant Panda National Park 22,000 Protecting the homes of most of China’s 1,900 wild giant pandas. Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park 14,100 Saving rare animals like the Amur tiger and leopard. It also helps them move and have babies safely. Sanjiangyuan National Park 190,700 Glaciers, high-altitude wetlands, grasslands, deserts, and beautiful lakes. Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park 4,269 China’s largest tropical rainforest. It has many plants and animals, including 33% of China’s reptiles and 38% of its birds. Wuyi Mountain National Park 1,280 Famous Danxia landforms with red cliffs and deep valleys. Mei Zhang, CEO of WildChina, says, “China’s national park system will surpass the US version. The US model, like Yellowstone, was good at protecting wilderness areas, but it also made mistakes. For example, they moved the local people away to create a look of undeveloped wilderness.” “In contrast,” Zhang says, “China can try a new way. By developing a close connection between local people and wild animal protection, China can form a national park system combining culture and environmental management.” Building such a huge park system is a big dream. But China has a history of finishing big projects quickly, like the longest dam and the largest high-speed rail network. Now, China is using its power to show the world its beautiful natural scenery. 1. Which park is famous for various high-altitude natural sights? A. Giant Panda National Park. B. Sanjiangyuan National Park. C. Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park. D. Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park. 2. What was the problem with the Yellowstone model? A. Protecting the vast wilderness with the original people. B. Creating national parks in an isolated place of wilderness. C. Building national parks with rich wildlife in a closed area. D. Resetting the local people to protect undeveloped wilderness. 3. What is the author’s attitude towards China’s national park construction plan? A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Concerned. B 2. D 3. 根据表格中Sanjiangyuan National Park的Features部分“Glaciers, high-altitude wetlands, grasslands, deserts, and beautiful lakes. (冰川、高海拔湿地、草原、沙漠和美丽的湖泊。)”可知,三江源国家公园以各种高海拔自然景观闻名。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“The US model, like Yellowstone, was good at protecting wilderness areas, but it also made mistakes. For example, they moved the local people away to create a look of undeveloped wilderness. (美国以黄石公园为代表的保护模式虽然擅长保护荒野区域,但也存在弊端。举例来说,当地居民被迁走,只为打造一片看似未经开发的荒野。)”可知,黄石公园模式的问题在于将当地居民迁走以保护未开发的荒野。 【3题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Building such a huge park system is a big dream. But China has a history of finishing big projects quickly, like the longest dam and the largest high-speed rail network. Now, China is using its power to show the world its beautiful natural scenery. (建设如此庞大的公园系统是一个宏伟的梦想。但中国有快速完成大型项目的历史,比如最长的大坝和最大的高铁网络。现在,中国正利用其力量向世界展示其美丽的自然风光。)”可知,作者对中国国家公园建设计划持支持态度。 B One summer evening years ago, Melissa Barbanell and her 7-year-old son, Calvin, headed to a park across the street from their home in Salt Lake City. She was on in-line skates, and he was on his bike. As they stood at the crosswalk, Barbanell noticed a pickup truck speeding toward them. Just then, Calvin started to cross the street. “I told my son to stop,” she remembered. But then the unthinkable happened. “The pickup truck hit him, knocking him off the bike and across the road, where I saw him apparently lifeless. And the truck drove away.” Barbanell was unable to move. That’s when her unsung hero appeared: a woman in her 30s with light brown hair. The woman had been jogging in the park, and when she saw what happened, she sprinted across the street. She turned out to be the perfect person to help. “She came to me and she said she was a nurse,” Barbanell said. “And she went to my son... She examined him, and she said the words, ‘He’s breathing. He has a pulse.’” Barbanell felt great relief — here was a competent person who would do everything she could to save her son’s life. “At that moment, she was the person who allowed me to come back into my body, and to go on,” Barbanell said. The woman held Calvin’s head still until emergency vehicles arrived. In the months that followed, the driver of the pickup was identified and prosecuted (起诉) for a hit-and-run. Calvin recovered from his injuries — which included damage to his liver and brain — over the next several years. Today, he’s 21 and recently graduated from his local community college with an electronics technician certificate. In the blur (迷糊) after the accident, Barbanell lost track of her unsung hero. She doesn’t know who the woman was, and she didn’t get her name. “But the woman that day — who allowed me to go on in the face of not knowing if my child was dead or alive — will be with me forever,” she said. 4. What made Barbanell unable to move? A. She was injured in the accident and couldn’t stand up. B. She was at a loss at seeing the pickup truck drive away. C. She was frightened after seeing her son get hit by a truck. D. She was terrified seeing a pickup truck speeding toward them. 5. What does the underlined word “sprinted” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Ran at full speed. B. Stepped over hurriedly. C. Pulled over quickly. D. Offered help voluntarily. 6. What can we infer from the third paragraph? A. Barbanell felt hopeful as her son was still breathing. B. Barbanell felt excited to have a nurse to save her son. C. The woman’s timely help made Barbanell feel at ease. D. The woman was a competent doctor to save the child. 7. Which column of a newspaper does this text belong to? A. Hot news. B. Medical and health care. C. Transportation. D. Good people and good deeds. C 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第二段““I told my son to stop,” she remembered. But then the unthinkable happened. “The pickup truck hit him, knocking him off the bike and across the road, where I saw him apparently lifeless. And the truck drove away.” Barbanell was unable to move.(“我让儿子停下来,”她回忆道。但随后不可思议的事情发生了。“皮卡车撞到了他,将他从自行车上撞飞并甩到马路对面,我看到他当时毫无生命迹象。随后卡车逃逸了。”巴尔巴内尔动弹不得)”可知,看到儿子被卡车撞倒、生命垂危,她受到极大惊吓而无法动弹。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“The woman had been jogging in the park, and when she saw what happened, she sprinted across the street.(这名女子原本在公园慢跑,看到事故发生后,她sprinted到了马路对面)”并结合事故紧急的语境可知,这名女子全速跑到马路对面。 根据第三段“Barbanell felt great relief — here was a competent person who would do everything she could to save her son’s life.(巴尔巴内尔如释重负——有一位专业可靠的人会尽全力挽救儿子的生命)”可知,陌生女子的及时救助让惊慌失措的她安心、镇定下来。 C Oysters (牡蛎) are called “ecosystem engineers”. They build reefs (礁) using living oysters and shells left by past generations. As important parts of ocean environments, oyster reefs offer shelters for hundreds of sea creatures and keep the natural balance of sea waters. Unfortunately, fishing activities and coastal development have caused severe damage, and around 85 percent of oyster reefs across Australia have disappeared so far. To save the fading reefs, researchers have been working hard to create man-made habitats for oysters. They first studied natural oyster reefs carefully and made an important discovery: natural reefs are not just random piles of shells, but well-organized three-dimensional (三维的) structures. The shape of a reef plays a key role in the survival of sea life and the growth speed of the reef itself. To figure out whether this rule can work in man-made reefs, the researchers used 3D imaging technology to examine surviving Sydney rock oyster reefs. Based on the collected data, they built computer models and designed 16 types of concrete units with different heights and shapes. These units were placed in three bays near natural reefs. For a long time, the team kept tracking young oysters to record their settlement, growth and survival conditions. The final results showed that the most effective designs were neither the tallest nor the most difficult ones. The best structures copied features of natural reefs, offering plenty of small hidden spaces. These spaces could protect baby oysters from natural enemies and bad environmental influences. Although total surface area matters, young oysters are tiny and easily affected by outside threats. It is meaningless to attract large numbers of young oysters if the reef cannot keep them alive. This research brings practical advice for the recovery of global oyster reefs. Professor Joshua Madin points out that nature has created perfect designs for reefs. People just need to learn these natural rules and put them into use, so that oyster reefs can grow better and last longer. 8. Why are oysters called “ecosystem engineers”? A. They control reef growth speed. B. They help shape coastal habitats. C. They balance the climate of the sea. D. They show many different kinds of sea life. 9. What is the main purpose of the scientists’ research in Paragraph 3? A. To compare different kinds of wild oysters in Australia. B. To improve the 3D imaging technology for sea research. C. To find out if the reef structure really works as expected. D. To record the total number of oysters in three nearby bays. 10. What did the best design of oyster reefs feature? A. Many difficult designs. B. Fully closed structures. C. Widely spaced structures. D. Plenty of small sheltered spaces. 11. What does the author imply in the last paragraph? A. Destroyed oyster reefs are difficult to rebuild. B. Man-made reefs can fully replace natural ones. C. The recovery of reefs depends on new technical ways. D. Nature gives us a good example for the recovery of oyster reefs. B 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段“They build reefs (礁) using living oysters and shells left by past generations. People just need to learn these natural rules and put them into use, so that oyster reefs can grow better and last longer.(Joshua Madin教授指出,大自然早已演化出礁石的完美构造。人类只需要学习并运用这些自然规律,从而让牡蛎礁长势更佳、存续更久。)”可知,大自然为修复牡蛎礁提供了绝佳范本。 D Joyce Loaiza lives alone in a community for older people in the American state of Florida. When she is home, the retired office worker often talks with a friendly female voice that asks about her day. A few kilometers away, the same voice helped 83-year-old Deanna Dezern when her friend died. In New York State, it plays games and music for 92-year-old Marie Broadbent. And in Washington State, it helps 83-year-old Jan Worrell make new friends. The women are some of the first in the United States to receive the robot ElliQ made by Intuition Robotics. The device looks like a small table light and it has an eyeless, mouthless head that lights up and turns. It remembers each user’s interests and their talks, helping create a special experience with each new discussion. They can be as deep as the meaning of life or as light as a small joke. ElliQ also plays music and provides creative and spiritual sayings. On a video screen that comes with it, it shows different cities and places of interest. The device leads exercises, asks about the owner’s health, and gives reminders to take medicines and drink water. It can also support video calls and contact family, friends, or doctors in an emergency. The robots are mostly sent out by state agencies in New York, Florida, Michigan, Nevada and Washington. But they can also be bought individually for $600 a year plus $250 to set it up. Brigham Young University professor Julianne Holt-Lunstad studies the effects of loneliness on health. Holt-Lunstad worries that a device like ElliQ might have short-term helpful effects but it could make people less likely to seek human contact. She said that the unpleasant feeling of loneliness should motivate people to reconnect socially. Charlotte Mather-Taylor is director of the Broward County, Florida, Area Agency on Aging. She believes these ElliQs help senior people out of loneliness. She said, “We’ve seen very positive results from them. People generally like them and they make them smile and bring joy.” 12. How does the author make ElliQ impressive in Paragraph 1? A. By interviewing experts. B. By giving instructions for use. C. By giving examples of user experience. D. By providing the sales of ElliQ among the elderly. 13. Why does ElliQ attract senior people? A. It leads them to work out to keep fit. B. It works as a considerate companion. C. It makes them feel isolated and lonely. D. It shares the meaning of life with them. 14. What can we infer from Professor Julianne Holt-Lunstad’s opinion? A. Senior people enjoy living a social life. B. ElliQ can’t take the place of human contact. C. ElliQ is not effective in handling loneliness. D. People can be addicted to talking to the robot ElliQ. 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage? A. To report the new use of AI. B. To stress the importance of human contact. C. To research on how to deal with loneliness. D. To promote the sales of a new product of AI. 12. C 13. B 14. B 15. And two dogs were walking slowly through the snowy road, looking for a place to stay. One of them, Pepper, was tired because she was going to give birth to little dogs soon. Her husband, Cooper, kept looking around for a warm. and safe place where they could rest. The cold wind was blowing hard, and they needed to find shelter before it got even colder. They were not just homeless animals— they had owners once, but somehow, they had been left on their own. Gus, a man who worked to protect animals, was driving home when he saw the two dogs on the road. It was snowing so heavily, and Gus could hardly see through his car’s headlights, but he noticed the dogs were wearing collars (项圈) with name tags. He parked his truck and walked to them slowly. To his joy, the dogs didn’t run away. Instead, they looked up at him with tired eyes. “Let’s get you into the truck first,” he said softly, gently lifting them inside. By the time he settled into the driver’s seat, Pepper and Cooper had curled up (蜷曲) together on the passenger seat, grateful for the warmth. Gus dialed the number on the tags, his heart dropping when a man answered impatiently. “I gave those dogs away. They’ re not mine anymore.” “Who did you give them to?” Gus asked, concern shading his voice. “I don’t know their names.” “Do you want them back?” “No. I can’t take care of them.” The man hung up, leaving Gus with the cold reality: these dogs were given up with no home at all in this world. “What could I do to help them?” Gus was lost in thought. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】“What could I do to help them?” Gus was lost in thought. Feeling both sad and determined, he sighed, deciding to take the poor dogs to his home without hesitation. Once there, he carefully placed them in a soft blanket near the fireplace, where Cooper sat with Pepper together gently, ensuring she was comfortable. The warmth of the fire wrapped around the homeless dogs like a comforting embrace, melting away their tiredness and fear, as well as the sadness that had settled in Gus’s eyes. A wave of pity and compassion washed over him. Gus realized that the loyal companions needed more than just a temporary shelter. It was a warm Christmas and the permanent love and care that they truly deserved! Outside the window, snow continued to fall quietly, enveloping the world in a soft white stillness, while inside, the crackling fire and the gentle breathing of the dogs created a haven of warmth and peace. 词汇激活 行为类 ①决定:decide /determine ②放置:place/put ③确保:ensure /make sure 情绪类 ①悲伤的:sad/unhappy ②害怕:fear/fright 【点睛】[高分句型1]  Once there, he carefully placed them in a soft blanket near the fireplace, where Cooper sat with Pepper together gently, ensuring she was comfortable.(运用了where引导的宾语从句和现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] It was a warm Christmas and the permanent love and care that they truly deserved!. B. Resetting the local people to protect undeveloped wilderness. 3. What is the author’s attitude towards China’s national park construction plan? A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Concerned. B One summer evening years ago, Melissa Barbanell and her 7-year-old son, Calvin, headed to a park across the street from their home in Salt Lake City. C Oysters (牡蛎) are called “ecosystem engineers”. D Joyce Loaiza lives alone in a community for older people in the American state of Florida. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
