Doctors say you had better use it before you lose it.The more you sit each day,the more chances you have of getting sick.
Richard Rosenkranz of Kansas State University was among the researchers. He said people who sat for long periods were at great risk of diseases when compared with those who sat less.He said that was especially true for some chronic(慢性的) diseases.
Richard Rosenkranz studied the relationship between sitting and chronic diseases in middle-aged Australian men.He worked with researchers from the University of Western Sydney. They examined the health records of more than 63,000 men from New South Wales. The men were between the ages of 45 and 65.The men reported about what diseases they had,or did not have. And they kept records of the amount of time each day that they sat.
The study also showed that exercising every morning for 30 minutes did not reduce the health risk if you spend the next eight hours sitting at the desk.Mr Rosenkranz said it was important to make sure you exercise. But he said it was also important to find ways not to sit so much during the day.
Many jobs today require sitting and working at the desk all day.James Levine works at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. He suggests working while standing at high table some of the time instead of sitting at a desk.Dr.Levine also suggests standing while using the telephone or eating.Or he advises walking with the people you work with for an on-foot meeting. And he notes that if you spend more time on your feet, you may have muscle activity that helps burn fats and sugars in your body.

Ⅴ.七选五
(2026湖南长沙雅礼中学高一月考)
I’ve done my share of stress-eating with ice cream or distracting(干扰)my anxiety by buying something online that I don’t need just to give myself a lift. 1
But when it comes to true self-care,I’ve found what really works for me.It doesn’t cost anything, except for investing in new shoes every eight months—running. 2 It has also been a comfort to know that I can do it when I need to as a way to ground myself and appreciate the good stuff in my life.
How did I begin running? My sister Lorie is an inspiring athlete who introduced me to running almost 5 years ago. 3 About six months later,I ran my first 5K road race and loved it.Racing is fun because you’re part of a group enjoying the outdoors and smiling at people cheering you on.
4 Heading out the door alone for a quick 5K is something I usually do.I’ve always liked setting my own schedule,so running is like self-care I can control.Plus, you can make it as hard as you want it to be.That depends on how fast or how far you want to go.That really works for me.I like to feel energized, and running certainly does that.It has helped me deal with the lows of my depression.
And as I’ve learned over the years, you can’t avoid stress from your life, but you can meet it with relaxation in whatever form works best for you. 5 However, adding in the effort of running makes it an overall self-care win for me.
A.It has helped me deal with difficult emotions.
B.Only in this way can you live a stress-free life.
C.However,I didn’t believe and refused to have a try.
D.Some people get that me-time with a hot bath or a great book.
E.I’m happy, though,to just run by myself in my neighbourhood.
F.The way I “fix” myself isn’t always healthy or well-thought-out.
G.As a beginner,I started out by running five minutes and walking a minute.

Nicole had always struggled with her self-confidence.She didn’t like the way she looked. She thought she was too tall and thin, and she hated how people constantly asked her,“How tall are you?” Although many people would have loved to be tall,Nicole only saw it as a problem. She tried everything to gain weight but never succeeded.
What upset Nicole even more was that she was very shy and found it hard to talk to new people.Making friends felt like a difficult task. She also disliked her voice, thinking it sounded too low and strange. Her lack of confidence began to affect her friendships. Her friends grew tired of always trying to cheer her up.They told her she was fine the way she was,but Nicole refused to believe them.
Her mother encouraged her to try something new—like joining a sports team.At first,Nicole refused. She didn’t want to embarrass herself. But after thinking about it for a few days, she finally agreed to try out for the school basketball team.Nicole had played basketball as a child, but it had been five years since she last touched a ball.Still, her height might help her.
On the day of tryouts,Nicole was nervous. The other girls seemed so confident. She thought they were better than her.But when they started to play,Nicole found that her old skills were still there. She ran fast, passed the ball well, and made a few baskets. She felt excited.Maybe she could do this. When the coach announced the final team list,Nicole was shocked to hear her name. She had made it!
That day,Nicole walked home feeling proud. For the first time in a long while, she felt good about herself. She realized that maybe she wasn’t as weak or awkward as she thought.Maybe she just needed a chance to believe in herself.
