The post read: “HELP! My hedgehog abandoned (抛弃) her two babies, and I cannot raise both of them because I have to go to school full-time. Good home with experience needed as soon as possible!” I had no experience with baby hedgehogs. I was an animal person through and through and had raised cats, dogs, birds, and guines pigs. But this tiny animal was new to me, and it touched me that he was abandoned, that maybe I could love him and be the best mom for him. I wrote the most heartfelt email I could. That was how I found my Louie. True to my word, he was my baby. Louie didn’t know he was a hedgehog. He never curled (蜷缩) into a ball, and he liked my two cats, no fear. The cats, however, were afraid of him, as he often moved into the room, running after the cats and blocking my way. By the time he reached old age, Louie had only three feet. However, he still managed to climb the stairs to visit other animals. He helped me realize my dream of hedgehog photography, a hobby that began during childhood with cats and dollhouses. I love showing off his modeling. Life has meaning because of the purpose we have. Louie needed a good home and mom, and in return, I got to be a good mother and be needed. D. It was satisfying and meaningful. C 42. A 43. B 44. D 45. 由文章第一段“One afternoon in 2013, something on the Internet caught my eye: a tiny hedgehog (刺猬) held by a big hand. The post read: “HELP! My hedgehog abandoned (抛弃) her two babies, and I cannot raise both of them because I have to go to school full-time. Good home with experience needed as soon as possible!” (2013年的一个下午,网上的一些东西引起了我的注意:一只大手牵着一只小刺猬。帖子写道:“救命!我的刺猬抛弃了她的两个孩子,我不能同时抚养它们,因为我必须全职上学。急需有经验的好家庭!”)”可知,作者是从一个需要为小刺猬寻找新家的人那里得到Louie的,即一位刺猬主人。故选C。 【42题详解】 主旨大意题。由文章第二段“I had no experience with baby hedgehogs. I was an animal person through and through and had raised cats, dogs, birds, and guines pigs. But this tiny animal was new to me, and it touched me that he was abandoned, that maybe I could love him and be the best mom for him. (我对小刺猬毫无经验。我是一个彻头彻尾的动物爱好者,养过猫、狗、鸟和豚鼠。但这只小动物对我来说是新的,它被遗弃的感觉触动了我,也许我可以爱它,成为它最好的妈妈。)”可知,第二段主要讲述了作者尽管没有照顾小刺猬的经验,但因为深感同情并觉得自己能给予它爱与关怀,所以决定领养Louie。因此,此段主要讨论了为什么作者决定留下Louie。故选A。 根据第三段中的“Louie didn’t know he was a hedgehog. He never curled (蜷缩) into a ball, and he liked my two cats, no fear. The cats, however, were afraid of him, as he often moved into the room, running after the cats and blocking my way. (路易不知道他是一只刺猬。他从不蜷缩成一个球,他喜欢我的两只猫,没有恐惧。然而,猫很怕他,因为他经常跑进房间,追着猫跑,挡住我的路。)”可知,Louie在作者的家中感到很放松,并不害怕,与两只猫相处融洽。故选B。 【44题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“By the time he reached old age, Louie had only three feet. However, he still managed to climb the stairs to visit other animals. (到了老年,Louie只有三脚了。然而,他仍然设法爬上楼梯去看望其他动物。)”可知,尽管Louie行动不便,但它仍然活跃,设法爬楼梯去看望其他动物。故选D。 【45题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Life has meaning because of the purpose we have. Louie needed a good home and mom, and in return, I got to be a good mother and be needed. Hedgehogs require great amounts of patience, trust, and knowledge — but the payoff (回报) is pretty great. (人生之所以有意义,是因为我们有目标。路易需要一个好的家和妈妈,作为回报,我要做一个好妈妈,让他需要我。刺猬需要大量的耐心、信任和知识——但回报相当可观。)”可知,作者认为抚养Louie是令人满足且有意义的,这给了她成为好母亲的机会并且被需要的感觉。故选D。 C In recent years, a growing body of research has shown that our appetite and food intake are influenced by a large number of factors besides our biological need for energy, including our eating environment and our perception(感知) of the food in front of us. Studies have shown, for instance, that eating in front of the TV (or a similar distraction) can increase both hunger and the amount of food consumed. Even simple visual clues, like plate size and lighting, have been shown to affect portion size and consumption. A new study suggested that our short-term memory also may play a role in appetite. Several hours after a meal, people's hunger levels were predicted not by how much they’d eaten but rather by how much food they'd seen in front of them—in other words, how much they remembered eating. This disparity (新旧研究的差异)suggests the memory of our previous meal may have a bigger influence on our appetite than the actual size of the meal, says Jeffrey M. Brunstrom, a professor of experimental psychology at the University of Bristol. "Hunger isn't controlled individually by the physical characteristics of a recent meal. We have identified an independent role for memory for that meal," Brunstrom says. "This shows that the relationship between hunger and food intake is more complex than we thought." These findings echo earlier research that suggests our perception of food can sometimes trick our body’s response to the food itself. In a 2011 study, for instance, people who drank the same 380-calorie milkshake on two separate occasions produced different levels of hunger-related hormones (荷尔蒙),depending on whether the shake’s label said it contained 620 or 140 calories. Moreover, the participants reported feeling more full when they thought they'd consumed a higher-calorie shake. What does this mean for our eating habits? Although it hardly seems practical to trick ourselves into eating less, the new findings do highlight the benefits of focusing on our food and avoiding TV and multitasking while eating. The so-called mindful-eating strategies can fight distractions and help us control our appetite, Brunstrom says. 46. What is said to be a factor affecting our appetite and food intake? A. How we feel the food we eat. B. When we eat our meals. C. What element the food contains. D. How fast we eat our meals. 47. What would happen at meal time if you remembered eating a lot in the previous meal? A. You would probably be more particular about food. B. You would not feel like eating the same food. C. You would have a good appetite. D. You would not feel so hungry. 48. What do we learn from the 2011 study? A. Food labels may mislead consumers in their purchases. B. Food labels may influence our body’s response to food. C. Hunger levels depend on one's consumption of calories. D. People tend to take in a lot more calories than necessary. 49. What does Brunstrom suggest we do to control our appetite? A. Trick ourselves into eating less. B. Choose food with fewer calories. C. Concentrate on food while eating. D. Pick dishes of the right size. 50. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Eating distractions often affect our food digestion. B. Psychological factors influence our hunger levels. C. Our food intake is determined by our biological needs. D. Good eating habits will contribute to our health. A 47. D 48. B 49. C 50. In recent years, a growing body of research has shown that our appetite and food intake are influenced by a large number of factors besides our biological need for energy, including our eating environment and our perception(感知) of the food in front of us. Several hours after a meal, people's hunger levels were predicted not by how much they’d eaten but rather by how much food they'd seen in front of them—in other words, how much they remembered eating. In a 2011 study, for instance, people who drank the same 380-calorie milkshake on two separate occasions produced different levels of hunger-related hormones (荷尔蒙),depending on whether the shake’s label said it contained 620 or 140 calories. The so-called mindful-eating strategies can fight distractions and help us control our appetite, Brunstrom says. I grew up in a small, remote village in the eastern part of Zimbabwe. My world was very small and I only knew a few professions and as I started my first grade in primary school, the only profession that I knew was teaching. Therefore, at that time, being a teacher was my ambition. A few years later, a young man from my village became a medical doctor. I admired his lifestyle. I was therefore inspired by his achievements and he became my role model. This is the reason why when I started high school, all I wanted to do was be a medical doctor. I hoped to take mostly science subjects in high school and then proceed to university to study medicine. However, things didn’t go the way I expected. I could not take science subjects because they were not offered at my high school. At first I was very disappointed and depressed. I thought that my dreams had been shattered once again, but a little while later, I realized that this was a blessing: I had been given a chance to explore my options a little further than that. As I completed high school and was preparing to go to college, my greatest attention was focused on accounting. Naturally, the subject becomes my best subject now at college. Now I am an accounting major but I wish to declare finance a major as well. I value the importance of business in society very much. I want to be a financial advisor in the future. To make my dream come true, now I am studying hard to gain more knowledge about finance. While I wish to achieve this, I agree that there is room for me to explore other opportunities, too. Our ambitions always change with new circumstances, new environments and as we get to know how big the world really is. 51. Hedgehogs require great amounts of patience, trust, and knowledge — but the payoff (回报) is pretty great. 41. The author got Louie from ______. A. a pet shop B. a family friend C. a hedgehog owner D. a hedgehog rescue center 42. What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. Why the author decided to keep Louie. B. When the author began to keep Louie. C. What deep feelings the author and Louie had. D. How Louie changed the author’s life. 43. How did Louie seem to feel at the author’s home? A. Frightened. B. Relaxed. C. Lonely. D. Tired. 44. What can we learn about Louie from paragraph 4? A. He disliked climbing stairs. B. He enjoyed being left alone. C. He always refused to be in photos. D. C In recent years, a growing body of research has shown that our appetite and food intake are influenced by a large number of factors besides our biological need for energy, including our eating environment and our perception(感知) of the food in front of us. 第Ⅱ卷(非选择题 共35分) 第四部分:写作(共两节,满分35分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 I grew up in a small, remote village in the eastern part of Zimbabwe. 51.
