Last summer, I went on a trip to Ireland, a place full of mystery and charm (魅力). As soon as I arrived on the beautiful island, I felt the fresh sea wind and saw the green sights that seemed to go on forever.
In Dublin, I walked through the narrow streets of Temple Bar. The locals were very friendly and always willing to help. They shared their stories and traditions with me, making me feel like I was part of their community. I visited a local market where I saw all kinds of handmade crafts (手艺) and tasted delicious traditional food. The vendors (小贩) were so kind and told me about the history behind their products. I also explored the beautiful parks and gardens, where I saw many people enjoying the sunshine and the natural beauty.
I also visited a small village in the west of Ireland. There, I experienced the simple and real countryside life. The people in the village were warm and welcoming. I stayed with a local family, and the grandmother taught me how to make traditional Irish soda bread. The kitchen was full of the smell of the freshly baked bread, and when I ate, I felt it was as delicious as I had never tasted. I also helped them with some farm work, like feeding the animals and collecting eggs. It was a great way to experience the Irish way of life.
The Irish culture, with its old traditions and the spirit of togetherness, left a lasting mark on me. It made me understand the importance of protecting our own cultural traditions and the value of friendship. This trip to Ireland was not just a journey to a beautiful country, but a journey into the heart of a culture that will always be special in my memory.
4. What was the author’s first impression on her arrival in Ireland?
A. Friendly locals. B. Natural beauty.
C. Crowded streets. D. Historical buildings.
5. What can we learn about the author’s experience in Dublin?
A. She was treated differently. B. The locals live a busy life.
C. She enjoyed the sense of community. D. The locals keep handcraft skills secret.
6. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The influence of tourism on Irish villages.
B. The difference between new and old farming ways.
C. The role of traditional Irish soda bread in local food.
D. A personal experience of country life and cultural traditions.
7. Which of the following can best describe the author’s trip to Ireland?
A. Tiring. B. Challenging. C. Meaningful. D. Costly.

As artificial intelligence (AI) art generators (生成器) take the world by storm, some people wonder if the works from AI art generators should count as art. The technology is still developing and has some problems to iron out, which means there are indeed flaws to consider alongside the incredible artwork a good AI can produce.
Art is classed as the product of imagination, skill, experience, and emotion, usually meant to represent something for the public to enjoy. Artists spent time and effort putting their inner worlds onto these works. Machine intelligence also puts a lot of work into sorting through tons of data, linking someone’s prompt to datasets, and trying to represent it as best as possible. The difference is that the AI is driven by commands instead of an emotional desire to express itself.
AI painters can produce over 1,000 original works of art with every tap of the enter key on a keyboard. But a mass-produced print of the Mona Lisa is worth less than the actual Leonardo da Vinci’s painting. Why? Scarcity — there’s only one of the original. Should anyone pay for these things? And if an artist puts AI masterpieces up for sale, what should the price be?
AI art involves a program mimicking (模仿) the work of existing artists to create a new piece according to the request of a human. But who made the artwork, the machine or its user? And can the original artists sue for copyright violation Such questions complicate the merging of AI and the art industry, while fueling arguments against recognizing AI-generated art as marketable artistic products.
Once we’ve answered those questions, we can solve the really big one: When an AI-generated painting wins an award, who gets the prize?
8. What does the underlined word “flaws” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Weaknesses. B. Advances. C. Benefits. D. Rules.
9. How is AI art different from human art?
A. It is the product of experience. B. It costs less money to produce.
C. It combines different styles of works. D. It is not a mirror of humans’ emotions.
10. Why does the author mention Mona Lisa in the third paragraph?
A. To prove the popularity of classic artworks.
B. To introduce a new way of preserving art masterpieces.
C. To present the potential trouble with the value of AI art.
D. To show the advantages of AI painters over human artists.
11. What can we infer from paragraph 4?
A. AI art promotes the sale of artistic products.
B. AI art makes copyright issues more complicated.
C. Artists can create more works with the help of AI.
D. There will be less competition in the art industry.

Changing everyday habits, such as how people shower, report leaks, and flush (冲) toilets, could help reduce England’s projected daily water shortfall of five billion liters, according to a new report led by University of Surrey. However, the study stresses that success depends on building a stronger evidence base within the water department.
Professor Benjamin Gardner, lead author of the study, said, “The water department knows that behavior change matters, but it needs to do more to connect with what we know around how people use water. Most initiatives so far have focused on increasing motivation to save water. That approach has its limits. People do not consciously decide how long to shower, for example. They simply do it, the same way, every day. Telling people how many liters of water they are using is unlikely to change that.”
Experts identified fixing or reporting household leaks, showering, and toilet flushing as the top priorities for behavior change. Showers typically use between six and 15 liters per minute, and roughly one quarter of drinking water used in UK homes goes toward flushing toilets. Four of the six highest-priority behaviors take place in the bathroom.
Dr Pablo Pereira-Doel, co-author of the study, said, “We know from our own research that real-time feedback (反馈) during a shower, delivered at the moment the behavior is happening, can meaningfully reduce how long people spend under the water. That kind of intervention (干预) works precisely because it does not rely on people remembering to act differently. It meets them in the moment. What this report shows is that the department needs to invest in understanding those moments far more systematically, across all the behaviors that matter, before it can design solutions that will actually stick.”
The study also points to a broader issue. Many water companies have carried out relevant behavior change research but do not share their findings, often for commercial reasons. The authors of the study suggest that standardized behavioral science tools could allow companies to share insights with each other without revealing sensitive information.
12. Why does Professor Benjamin Gardner think increasing motivation less effective?
A. The water department puts less emphasis.
B. Rewards often turn out insufficient.
C. People are unaware of such initiatives.
D. Many water-use behaviors are habitual.
13. What does Dr Pablo Pereira-Doel say about designing workable interventions?
A. It involves providing a quiet setting.
B. It should rely on repeated reminders.
C. It should be based on further research.
D. It demands water users’ real- time feedback.
14. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Companies often exchange sensitive findings.
B. Doing research is tough for water companies.
C. Behavioral science tools have been standardized.
D. Existing research hasn’t been made full use of.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Monitor Systems in the bathroom
B. Change Household Habits of Water Use
C. Limits of Motivation- Based Saving Water
D. Challenges Facing the UK’s Government

When I was in high school, my passion for art was often seen as a distraction (干扰) from “serious” subjects. My parents, both engineers, hoped I would follow a more traditional path. It was in this climate of doubt that I met Mr. Anderson, my art teacher.
Mr. Anderson was different. His classroom was a safe place of creativity, filled with the smell of paint and possibility. While others saw my painting as a hobby, he saw potential. He would spend extra hours after school, not just teaching me techniques, but discussing the stories behind great artworks and the emotions they showed. He once told me, “True art isn’t about perfection; it’s about voice. It’s about having the courage to show the world how you see it.”
Encouraged by his words, I decided to pour my heart into a piece for the annual Provincial Youth Art Competition. I spent weeks on a painting titled The Crossroads, showing a young figure standing at a crossroads, with one path brightly lit and well-trodden, and the other, darker and overgrown, but leading towards a distant, shimmering (闪烁的) light. It was a metaphor (隐喻) for my own struggle.
The day the results were announced, I rushed to the school notice board, my heart pounding. I looked through the list of winners from the bottom up. Third place... not me. Second place... not me. First place... still not my name. A weight settled on my chest. I failed. I wasn’t as good as I thought. Maybe my parents were right. I turned away, feeling the dream inside me seeming to break into a million pieces.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
As I was about to leave, I felt a hand on my shoulder.

A 9. D 10. C 11. B
根据第一段“The technology is still developing and has some problems to iron out, which means there are indeed flaws to consider alongside the incredible artwork a good AI can produce. (这项技术仍在发展,存在一些亟待解决的问题,这意味着即便优质AI能产出绝妙作品,也确实存在一些flaws需要考量)”可知,即便AI生成的作品优秀,也存在一些需要考虑的短板,flaws与“Weaknesses(弱点,短板)”含义接近。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“The difference is that the AI is driven by commands instead of an emotional desire to express itself. (二者区别在于AI受指令驱动,而非源于抒发自我的情感诉求)”可知,AI艺术无法承载、映照人类的情感。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段 “But a mass-produced print of the Mona Lisa is worth less than the actual Leonardo da Vinci’s painting. Why? Scarcity — there’s only one of the original. Should anyone pay for these things? And if an artist puts AI masterpieces up for sale, what should the price be? (但批量印刷的《蒙娜丽莎》远不如达·芬奇本人的原作珍贵,为什么?因为稀有性——原作仅有一幅。人们应该为这些作品付费吗?如果一位艺术家将AI杰作出售,那么价格该定多少?)”可知,作者借名画稀缺价值的对比,引出AI艺术品价值评判的潜在难题。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“But who made the artwork, the machine or its user? And can the original artists sue for copyright violation (侵犯版权)? Such questions complicate the merging of AI and the art industry (艺术品创作者到底是机器还是使用者?原作艺术家能否起诉侵权?这类问题让AI与艺术行业的融合变得复杂)”可知,AI艺术让版权相关问题更加繁杂。

D 13. C 14. D 15. B
根据第二段中“People do not consciously decide how long to shower, for example. They simply do it, the same way, every day. Telling people how many liters of water they are using is unlikely to change that.(例如,人们不会自觉地决定淋浴多长时间。他们只是每天以同样的方式去做。告诉人们他们用了多少升水不太可能改变这一点)”可知,许多用水行为是习惯性的,所以增加动力效果不佳。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“What this report shows is that the department needs to invest in understanding those moments far more systematically, across all the behaviors that matter, before it can design solutions that will actually stick.(这份报告表明,该部门需要更有系统地投资于了解所有重要行为中的这些时刻,然后才能设计出真正可行的解决方案)”可知,设计可行的干预措施应该基于进一步的研究。
根据最后一段中“Many water companies have carried out relevant behavior change research but do not share their findings, often for commercial reasons. The authors of the study suggest that standardized behavioral science tools could allow companies to share insights with each other without revealing sensitive information.(许多水务公司已经开展了相关的行为改变研究,但出于商业原因,它们并不分享研究成果。该研究的作者建议,标准化的行为科学工具可以让公司在不泄露敏感信息的情况下相互分享见解)”可推知,现有的研究还没有得到充分利用。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段中“Changing everyday habits, such as how people shower, report leaks, and flush (冲) toilets, could help reduce England’s projected daily water shortfall of five billion liters, according to a new report led by University of Surrey.(根据萨里大学领导的一项新报告,改变日常习惯,比如人们如何洗澡、报告漏水以及冲厕所,可以帮助减少英格兰预计的每日50亿升的水资源短缺)”以及下文内容可知,文章主要讲述了改变日常用水习惯可帮助减少英格兰每日预计的水资源短缺,且强调了进一步研究的重要性。

下文“There are so many different types of humor, and each type appeals to specific demographics (人群). For a humorous marketing campaign to kick off, you must have a complete understanding of the demographics you sell products to.(幽默有很多不同的类型,每种类型都吸引了特定的人群。为了启动一个幽默的营销活动,你必须完全了解你销售产品的人群)” 说明要了解对应人群、研究适合他们的幽默,核心是知晓目标受众。空处为本段的主旨句,统领该段内容。所以A项“了解你的目标受众”符合语境。A选项中的“target audience”与下文中的“demographics you sell products to”相呼应。故选 A。
上文“Study the humor that works for them with all your heart. Look through forums, newspapers, and social media comments.(全心全意地研究对他们有效的幽默。浏览论坛、报纸和社交媒体评论)”说明要用心研究适合受众的幽默,可通过论坛、报纸、社媒评论搜集信息。空处和前文为顺接关系,说明搜集这些信息后的下一步作用。所以G项“然后找到能帮你构思如何开启趣味营销活动的灵感”符合语境。G选项中的“start your funny campaign”与上文中的“a humorous marketing campaign to kick off”相呼应,故选G。
上文“If you sell software solutions, which is a serious service that’s generally used by professionals and companies, you must approach funny angles (角度) that relate to your brand, products and services.(如果你销售软件解决方案,这是一项专业人士和公司通常使用的严肃服务,你必须从与你的品牌、产品和服务相关的有趣角度入手)”说明幽默要贴合品牌和产品服务,下文“But they’d better contain at least several significant links that’ll allow people to figure out the connections on their own!(但它们最好至少包含几个重要的链接,让人们自己找出联系!)” D 选项中的“content or ads”,“related to your offers”与上文中的“funny angles that relate to your brand, products and services”相呼应,故选D。
上文“Simplicity is always appreciated, especially in humor.(简单总是被欣赏的,尤其是在幽默中)”点明本段核心是幽默要简洁,下文“they’d rather laugh without paying too much thought!(他们宁愿不费太多心思就笑!)” E选项中的“too complicated to understand”与上文中的“simplicity”、下文中的“without paying too much thought”相呼应,故选E。
上文“Diversify jokes and explore new angles(多样化笑话,探索新角度)”点明本段核心是要丰富笑话形式、挖掘新角度,下文“You’ll need to diversify your jokes and explore new angles of humor on a constant basis. Know when to stop pushing your ads by observing people’s reactions. Even if your ad has been extremely appreciated for one month, its performance might significantly drop due to people getting tired. When your feedback keeps decreasing, it’s time to think of something new!(你需要使你的笑话多样化,并不断探索新的幽默角度。通过观察人们的反应,知道什么时候停止推送你的广告。即使你的广告在一个月内受到了极大的赞赏,但由于人们感到疲倦,它的表现也可能会大幅下降。当你的反馈不断减少时,是时候想想新的东西了!)”说明要持续创新,因为受众会厌烦重复的笑话。空处与后文为因果关系,解释为何要丰富笑话、挖掘新角度。所以F项“笑话很容易过时,一旦过时就会让人反感”符合语境。F选项中的“get old very quickly”,“become annoying”与下文中的“people getting tired”,“feedback keeps decreasing” 相呼应。

As I was about to leave, I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Mr. Anderson. “I know what you’re feeling,” he said softly, leading me away from the crowd. “But did you pour your heart into that painting?” I nodded tearfully. “Then it’s a success,” he declared. “The judges’ opinion was just one perspective,” he continued. “You must walk towards that shimmering light in your painting yourself, even if no one else sees it at first. This is just the beginning of finding your own unique voice.” His words, like a beacon, began to remove the shadows of my doubt.
Twenty years later, standing in my own art studio, that moment remains vivid. My painting The Crossroads now hangs on the wall as a reminder of the day when I almost gave up. The shimmering light I once painted now floods the room. Success, I’ve learned, isn’t defined by a single award but by the resilience to keep creating. I often think of Mr. Anderson, the teacher who saw the light in my work when I myself could not. His belief became the foundation upon which I built my career.
