心
One of my earliest memories is of my father sitting me down at our kitchen table with canvases,
paints, and brushes. He taught me how to blend colors and use different materials.Whenever we felt
inspired,we set out all our materials and painted what our hearts desired.
My father grew up in a small village in the Dominican Republic.Despite not having many
materials available,he created art with whatever he had.My father saved his money to buy paints
and colored pencils to draw on the walls around his home. When he was 15,he arrived in America
alone and stayed with his aunt in Florida for a while before finishing high school in New York with
another aunt.He studied very hard.Eventually,my father was able to obtain his citizenship.
4
As I got older,he continued to give me lessons, teaching me different brush strokes and how to
take care of my ait supplies. He taught me to find beauty in everything and everyone around me.I
grew to love drawing people,as I could highlight the physical features that make everyone unique
and beautiful.
It wasn't until I began looking carefully into my father's paintings and the work of popular
artists on Instagram that I started to be more critical of my work.I started to worry that I could never
live up to my father's talent. My simple,two-dimensional drawings fell flat compared to his realistic
landscapes.Going through my sketchbooks and portfolios,I found fault in all my drawings.Art was
my favorite thing in the world but I started to believe I wasn't good at it.Instead of working toward
improving,I decided to give up drawing.
My father noticed that I had been drawing and painting less and told me,"Mia,you should
audition for the school.I wish I'd had an opportunity to study art like this when I was a kid."My
father's bravery and strength are things that I desire to have.So over the next few months,I worked
on my portfolio.Looking back at my pictures,I can see how much I have improved since then. The
school must have seen potential in my drawings because I got in!
It was eye-opening to attend a college that specializes in the arts.I learned to embrace my
individuality and my talent.I have become more open about sharing my artworks and receiving
constructive criticism, which raises my self-belief in my art.

Have you grasped the information taught by your teacher in class?Have you understood what
you saw on the screen?Maybe everyone has their own learning style.
Generally speaking,we gather information with our minds and bodies in different ways, such as
seeing, hearing and doing. Then our brains deals with that information, organizing it and connecting
it to things we are already aware. In other words, our brains will deal with the information in
different ways.Sometimes we think in pictures or words.Sometimes we remember details or the big
pictures
For different people, their learning styles are different too.One person may find it hard to make
out the information in written forms but easy to know it immediately in an oral description. However,
another person might find difficulties with the picture but the written message.
Now scientists say there exist seven basic learning styles.
Linguistic:These people learn through listening, reading, speaking and writing
Logica:These people learn with formula(公式)and principles(原理)
Visual:These people learn by seeing what they are studying.
Musical:These people learn well when information is presented through music.
Kinesthetic:These people leamn from movement and physical activities
Intrapersonal:These people learn best by linking new information directly with their own
experiences.
Interpersonal:These people learn well by working with others.
Therefore,if you know what learning style is your strength, you can balance your weakness, and
get a more successful learning experience
28.From the passage,we know that our brains
A.deal with the information in different ways
B.send out the information in the same way
C.organize information with our bodies
D.gather information in the same way
29.A visual learner usually learns
A.through listening and speaking
B.by seeing what he is learning
C.from movement and physical activities D.by linking new information with his experience
30.A musical learner will find it easy to learn
A.with formulas and principles
B.by working with others
C.through reading and writing
D.through music he hears
31.The purpose of the passage is to tell us to_
6
A.learn more successfully
B.gather more information
C.understand more quickly
D.exchange information better

As the planet warms up and oceans rise, extreme weather events are becoming the norm.Getting
notified in time to prepare for a disastrous hurricane or heat wave could be the disparity between life
and death.AI can help. Two studies published in the journal Nature described the benefit of two AI
models that could improve weather forecasting.
The first AI-based system is called Pangu-Weather,which was developed by the Huawei Cloud
team.It was capable of predicting global weather a week in advance.A majority of countries use
numerical ()weather prediction models. These models use math formulas to create computer
models of the atmosphere and oceans for predicting future weather with data from them. What makes
Pangu-Weather different is that the Pangu-Weather model is deeply trained with the help of 39-year
global weather data, preparing it to forecast temperature, pressure, and wind speed. When compared
to the numerical weather prediction method,Pangu-Weather was 10,000 times faster and no less
accurate.Pangu-Weather also contains a 3D model,unlike past AI forecasting systems,that allows it
to record atmospheric states at different pressure levels to further increase its accuracy.
Pangu-Weather can predict weather patterns 5-7 days in advance. However,it can't forecast
precipitation().As precipitation prediction is vital for extreme weather forecasting,a second
Nature model,NowcastNet,fills this gap.It can accurately predict rainfall 6 hours ahead, helping
meteorologists(气象学家)study weather patterns in real-time more effectively.
NowcastNet focuses on detailed, realistic descriptions of extreme rainfall pattemns in local
regions. It uses radar observations from the US and China,as well as deep learning methods,to
predict precipitation rates over a 1.6-million-square-mile region of the eastern and central US up to 3
hours in advance.62 meteorologists from China tested NowcastNet and ranked it first, out of four
other leading weather forecasting methods,in reliably predicting heavy rain, which it did 71 percent
of the time.
While generative AI models have good prospects in weather forecasting, experts point out that
replacing existing systems has many challenges. However,in 5-10 years, these models may
surprise us.
32.What does the underlined word"disparity"in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Difference.B.Decision.
C.Settlement.D.Struggle.
33.What is the advantage of Pangu-Weather compared with the numerical weather prediction
method?
A.It can predict precipitation more accurately.B.It can provide a 3D view of the weather.
C.It is much faster and equally accurate.D.It can record more detailed atmospheric states.
34 What can we learn about NowcastNet from the text?
A.It is mainly used to predict global weather patterns.
B.It was developed by 62 meteorologists from China.
C.It uses radar observations and deep learning to predict precipitation in the US
D.It ranks first among all weather forecasting methods in predicting heavy rain.
35.What is the text mainly about?
A.The impacts of climate change on extreme weather events.
B.The challenges in using generative AI in weather forecasting.
C.The explanation of the traditional numerical weather-prediction method.
D.The introduction of two AI-based weather-forecasting models and their features

a promising tool for promoting well-being of the elderly.
Music has a great power to cause strong emotions and intense pleasure.37 Singing and
dancing to music with others is not only fun but also improves mood.Musical activities are great
ways to reduce stress because they take our minds off problems. They also help us feel less lonely
and more connected with other people.
38 A song may become a soundtrack for a particular time, such as a delightful party
with fiiends that you had a long time ago.Listening to that song allows you to remember all the
happy memories from that time.
Finally, music contributes to keeping our thinking skills sharp. It makes our brains work hard in
unique ways to understand the rhythm and melody.39 For example, research demonstrates
that listening to classical background music while performing cognitive tasks can enhance specific
mental functions in elderly individuals, particularly processing speed and working memory capacity.
In conclusion, music is a powerful tool to fight against aging-related emotional and cognitive
problems. It is an enjoyable and social activity, available to anyone regardless of their background or
previous musical experience.40

I started reading to myself,as well as out loud to Mother and other family members, between the
ages of three and four.By the time I tumned five,I was reading "chapter books",like The Bobbsey
Twins.I read whenever books came my way, usually by my mother taking me to the town's small
but book-packed library on Saturdays.Along my journey as a reader, there were other helping hands
that develop my love for books-Mrs Eleanor Harrison,my first-grade teacher.
When I started first grade, making friends became a challenge for me.My nich vocabulary made
me easy to be labeled as a bookworm(书呆子),causing other children to shy away from playing with
me.My mother explained that there would be "stuff"I already knew while others didn't.Reading
was one such skill-I could read while none of my classmates were able to.Therefore, when we
moved to a new city, and I found myself in a new school,I decided to pretend that I didn't know
many words either, just to fit in.
On the first day of school,my mother walked me there and introduced herself to Mrs Harrison,
my new teacher After that,I walked to school and back home by myself. However, around a month
later,something significant happened.One afternoon,when I came home from school,my mother
told me that my teacher,Mrs Harrison, had called and wanted to have a meeting with her.I
immediately asked if I was in trouble since I had only heard of teachers calling parents when there
was an issue.
"She didn't say so,responded Mother,as thoughts raced through my mind."She said she
wanted to talk to me about you.Mother pulled me to her-one of her healing hugs.I trusted my
mother.I knew she loved me.I blurted out,"So,you think this will have a 'happily ever after

class,my reading speed was very fast and understanding ability was relatively strong, which suggested my knowledge was
very wide. She could see that there were many books I should be reading. But she found out I was hiding some of my
abilities.Recently, the school wanted to hold a school reading festival, and wanted to find several student representatives to
speak on stage,to tell about their reading experience and introduce the benefits of reading. My mother also introduced my
actual situation to Mrs Harrison, and gladly accepted the task. When she got home, she told me the news immediately.
"I like that idea!"Firmly,I nodded a yes.My mother and I began to actively prepare my speech, the title of which was
the reading story of a little bookworm. In my speech,I introduced that I had been fond of reading since childhood, and
reading enriched my vocabulary,my thoughts, and made me have a broader knowledge and vision.I hoped that I could
continue to maintain my enthusiasm for reading, and that more and more students could actively participate in reading
activities.I also hoped to find more friends who love reading, communicate with each other and make progress together.

I'm pleased to announce the winners of this year's King and Queen of the Senior Class.First, the queen,Camille
Smith has been a straight-A student ever since she joined Freeman High School. But she is much more than just a good
student. She started the community service club. The club matches students with local causes that they care about. She will
leave a lasting impression when she heads for Harvard in the fall.Next,we have Stan Brooks, our Senior Class King.Stan
started the garden program here at Freeman. When the project began,we had a tiny area of dirt and only a few flowers. Now,
we've got a dozen kinds of fruits and vegetables growing at any one time, and we grow food all year round. The garden
program is a great way for students to explore a different kind of learning. They did projects about how to protect nature and
came up with plans for how not to waste any food. With Stan's help, this school has become more beautiful and more
involved with others. He's still trying to choose between Stanford and Yale, but we'll miss him wherever he goes.Let's
wish our King and Queen the best of luck as they finish the school year strong!
