We all have those moments when bright ideas hit us, but not everyone can develop such moments into the fruits of creative thinking. While we believe creative thinking is the falling apple of Isaac Newton, who was born in 1643, we seldom notice that creative thinking is in fact a process.
Let’s look at what happened in 1666. Sitting in the garden, Newton watched an apple fall from a tree. He began to wonder if the same force that pulled the apple down also kept the moon circling the earth. Newton believed it did. He called it “gravity”.
This story has become one of the most popular examples of “eureka” moments. But when we cheer for the great discovery, the whole process of creative thinking shouldn’t be forgotten. Newton studied mathematics for a long time to have a better understanding of the world. He always enjoyed finding new ways to solve problems.
Newton began to examine “gravity” carefully. He experimented, studied the results, and used what he learned to design new experiments. This process of inquiry (调查) , which began with the falling apple, lasted for many years until he finally published (发表) his groundbreaking work in 1687.
The whole process of creative thinking works the same in our life. In school, we prepare ourselves for the right moment. Once the moment comes, we catch it and then keep on working in the years to come. It takes a lot to get the fruits of creative thinking, but the sweetest fruits will be ready for those who wait the longest.
56. How long did Newton continue to study gravity after the apple fell?
A. For 44 years B. For 33 years C. For 23 years D. For 21 years
57. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The moon. B. The earth. C. The force. D. The apple.
58. The underlined word “eureka” in paragraph 3 probably means ________.
A. I’ve got it B. I give up C. I have no idea D. I believe it
59. What can we learn from Newton’s story?
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
C. The early bird catches the worm. D. Action speaks louder than words.
60. What is the best title for the text?
A. Tips on Becoming a Scientist B. Creative Thinking: A Long Road
C. Newton’s Apple: A Lucky Moment D. The Importance of Patience in Science
D 57. C 58. A 59. B 60. B

第二段划线词it前一句提出疑问:“if the same force that pulled the apple down also kept the moon circling the earth”,后文Newton believed it did,it指代前文提到的the force。
Rome wasn’t built in a day(罗马不是一天建成的,伟业非一日之功)。
Creative Thinking: A Long Road。
D
As humans, we can think about what other people are thinking. Scientists call this “theory of mind”. Humans spend a lot of their time working together, sharing information, and helping each other out. “Theory of mind”— being able to imagine what someone else might be thinking — is an important part of human nature. But can animals do this too?
Some scientists think they can. For example, chimpanzees (黑猩猩) sometimes tell their friends about danger, like a snake, if they think the other chimpanzees didn’t see it. A new experiment shows that bonobos, a kind of ape (猿), can also think about what others are thinking.
Bonobos are smart and kind animals. They can solve problems by working together.
To study how bonobos think, scientists at Johns Hopkins University had an experiment with three bonobos. In the experiment, a scientist named Mr. Townrow sat across from a bonobo. Another scientist hid a grape under one of three cups on the table. The bonobo could see where the grape was. Sometimes, Mr. Townrow could see where the grape went. Other times, he could not. Mr. Townrow looked at the cups and said, “Hmm, where is the grape?” Then he waited for the bonobos to act. The bonobos often pointed to the right cup, but they did it more quickly and more often when Mr. Townrow didn’t see where the grape was. This shows that the bonobos knew Mr. Townrow needed help.
The study wasn’t perfect. It only had three bonobos. Also, these bonobos lived with humans, so wild bonobos might act differently. But the study still shows something special. Bonobos may have a “theory of mind” like people do. They can guess what others know and help them when they need it.
61. What does “theory of mind” help humans do?
A. Help each other out. B. Work well with others.
C. Share important information. D. Understand others’ thoughts.
62. What can we infer (推断) from the chimpanzee example?
A. They often meet danger. B. They are afraid of snakes.
C. They have good eyesight. D. They warn friends of danger.
63. Why did bonobos point faster when Mr. Townrow couldn’t see?
A. They knew his need. B. They followed his look.
C. They enjoyed playing games. D. They wanted the grape quickly.
64. Why does the writer mention the study’s problems?
A. To explain why the results are wrong. B. To show further research is needed.
C. To suggest the bonobos are special. D. To prove the study is hard to do.
65. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To compare humans with animals. B. To introduce a new kind of animal.
C. To show animals can also read minds. D. To teach us how to do a study on animals.
D 62. D 63. A 64. B 65. C
根据第一段“As humans, we can think about what other people are thinking. Scientists call this ‘theory of mind’.”以及“‘Theory of mind’— being able to imagine what someone else might be thinking”可知,“心理理论”指的是思考或想象他人想法的能力,即理解他人的思想。
根据第二段“For example, chimpanzees sometimes tell their friends about danger, like a snake, if they think the other chimpanzees didn’t see it.”
根据第四段“The bonobos often pointed to the right cup, but they did it more quickly and more often when Mr. Townrow didn’t see where the grape was. This shows that the bonobos knew Mr. Townrow needed help.”
根据最后一段“The study wasn’t perfect. It only had three bonobos. Also, these bonobos lived with humans, so wild bonobos might act differently.”

There are many team projects in the school that need to be completed together. For example, when your teacher asks you to do a class project, some of you make the plan, and others prepare the necessary materials. ____66____ However, team activities aren’t always easy because not everyone knows how to work well together. Here are some suggestions to make teamwork easier.
____67____ If you’re doing a class project, you need to check the teacher’s instructions and know the purpose. And ask questions whenever something isn’t clear. As the saying goes, “If you don’t know where you’re going, you probably won’t get there.”
Next, teams work better when people have their roles. ____68____ There might also be a notetaker who writes down the team’s ideas during meetings, and a timekeeper to make sure people don’t waste time chatting.
Divide the work of a large project into small tasks. Team members can choose tasks they can do well or enjoy. Letting people do what they are good at or like may also help them be more efficient. Of course, you shouldn’t always do the same task. ____69____
When you’re working in a team, respect is necessary. ____70____ Don’t cut in. Do your duty, so other members don’t have to do work for you. Finally, try to stay positive and enjoy yourself. Everything is easier when you’re having fun!
A. It’s good to try more new things.
B. Listen carefully when others are speaking.
C. It is easier and faster than doing everything alone.
D. Make sure everyone knows the purpose of the project.
E. There should be a leader who helps everyone make decisions.
C 67. D 68. E 69. A 70. B
前文提到“some of you make the plan, and others prepare the necessary materials”,举例分工完成班级项目,后文用“However”转折说明团队合作并不简单。选项C “It is easier and faster than doing everything alone.”
后文“If you’re doing a class project, you need to check the teacher’s instructions and know the purpose.” D “Make sure everyone knows the purpose of the project.”
前文“teams work better when people have their roles”说明团队需要分工角色,后文列举记录员、计时员两类岗位。选项E “There should be a leader who helps everyone make decisions.”
前文“Of course, you shouldn’t always do the same task.” A “It’s good to try more new things.”
Do your duty...” B “Listen carefully when others are speaking.”

B: ________________________________!
Glad to see you too/Me too
【详解】根据英语交际习惯,当对方说“Glad to see you!” Glad to see you too!“见到你也很高兴”或“Me too!“我见到你也很高兴。”本题为开放性题目,如有其他答案,言之有理即可。
72. — Have a good trip.
— __________________.
Thank you

73. A: I’m afraid of the final exam.
B: _________________________
Don’t worry./Don’t be worried./No need to worry./Take it easy.
“Don’t worry./Don’t be worried./No need to worry./Take it easy.”
74. A: _________________________?
B: My flight is at 5 o’clock.
What time is your flight

B: About 8.9 million.
What’s the population

Lin was born in 1943 in Liancheng, Fujian. He is a scientist of the National Juncao Technology Research Center and a teacher at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. He is called “Father of Juncao”. Juncao, known as “magic grass”, can be used to grow mushrooms (蘑菇). The technology of growing Juncao was invented in the 1980s by Lin Zhanxi. It is helpful in reducing global poverty
However, the research of Juncao is not easy. Professor Lin experienced tens of thousands of failed experiments. To continue the study, he had to borrow money and equipment. But he never gave up. On a day in October 1986, the first mushroom using Juncao technology was grown. Lin’s excitement was beyond words.
So far, Juncao has helped over 20,000 families in Ningxia shake off poverty. The technology has also been introduced into 106 countries around the world. At the age of 54, Juncao was introduced into Papua New Guinea from China. Villagers in the country began to learn the Juncao technology with the help of Chinese scientists. After Juncao was successfully planted, the villagers shouted “Juncao, China!” to express their excitement. Many people in the South Pacific, Latin America and African countries have shaken off poverty through growing Juncao and mushrooms, too.
