-----------The Analects of Confucius (论语)
We often say, “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” But should friends help us even when we’re making bad choices? Confucius gives an answer to this question in The Analects of Confucius.
Everyone has dreams and goals, and it is a great thing to have friends who support us through difficulties. However, it is just as important to see clearly who is helping us.
According to Confucius, we can tell what kind of person someone is by what they encourage us to do. If they guide us toward good things that help us grow, they are true friends. But if they support bad actions, they are not to be trusted.
We often have to decide whether something is truly good for us. Some activities, like playing video games, may bring short-term joy. But they can become a problem if they make you forget important tasks. When thinking about a friend’s influence on you, ask yourself: Are they helping you become a better person, or leading you the wrong way?
24. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning “A friend in need is a friend indeed” at the beginning?
A. To criticize (批判) this saying as being outdated.

Inside the hall, the door was shut, and the key lay on the glass stand. Poor Alice, who was about one foot high after taking some drink, found a cake on the floor. She went up and soon ate all the cake.
“How strange! How tall I am!” said Alice. She looked down at her feet—they seemed so far off. In fact, she was now over nine feet high, which meant she still couldn’t get through the door. She sat down and had a good cry till there was a large pool all round her.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of feet not far off. It was the Rabbit that had come back, with a fan in his hand. Alice felt so in need of help from someone that when he came near, she called out, “If you please, si...” The Rabbit started as if shot, dropped the fan and ran off as fast as possible.
Alice picked up the fan and as the hall was hot, she fanned herself. “Dear, dear! How strange all things are today! I do wish to get out of the hall! ________” she said.
Then she noticed herself in the glass — she was now not more than two feet high and still shrinking quite fast. That was the fan! She realized this and dropped it at once, or she would shrink to the size of an ant soon.
Alice was in a sad fear at the quick change. “Things are worse,” said the poor girl, “I was never so small as this. How can I get out?” As she said these words, she lost her footsteps and was up to her chin (下巴) in salt water—her own tears.
Just then Alice noticed a mouse swimming towards her.
“Will it be useful now to speak to this mouse? All things are so strange here. I should think maybe it can talk. At least there’s no harm to try.” So she swam up.

Among all types of paper, Xuan paper has earned a special place in Chinese culture. The history of Xuan paper dates back to the Tang Dynasty. At that time, paper was produced in Xuancheng, Jingxian, Ningguo and Taiping. They were counties (县) under the jurisdiction (管辖范围) of Xuanzhou. Among them, the paper made in Jingxian was the best for its excellent qualities. Since most paper distribution (分发) centers were in Xuancheng, the paper was then known as Xuan paper.
Xuan paper is made from the bark (树皮) of the blue sandalwood (檀香木) tree and rice straw. The process (过程) of making it includes many procedures like washing, boiling, and drying. Each step needs a lot of time and care. The final product is soft, thin but strong. It doesn’ t tear (扯破) easily and can take in a lot of ink. Because of these qualities, Xuan paper has been loved by painters and calligraphers. It helps them fully express their creative ideas and feelings.
Xuan paper is not only a material for art but also a cultural symbol. It represents the rich heritage (遗产) of the arts in Chinese history. Even in today’s modern world, Xuan paper continues to hold an important position in Chinese art and cultural traditions.
B. To show that friends should only help in emergencies.
C. To argue that we don’t need friends in daily life.
D. To introduce a deeper question about what true help really means.
25. According to Confucius, how can we tell what kind of person someone is?
A. By how much money they have. B. By what they encourage us to do.
C. By how often they play with us. D. By how many friends they have.
26. The passage uses playing video games as an example to show that _______.
A. all entertainment is harmful
B. short-term joy is always bad
C. some things can be enjoyable but may distract us from important tasks
D. friends should stop you from playing any games
27. Which of the following situations BEST shows someone being a “true friend” according to the passage?
A. Your friend always agrees with whatever you want to do.
B. Your friend encourages you to skip class to play basketball.
C. Your friend gives you answers during a test because you don’t study.
D. Your friend advises you to plan your time well before playing games.
28. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Playing video games is bad for students.
B. We should always listen to our friends’ advice.
C. True friends should guide you towards good, not support bad choices.
D. Confucius was a wise man who knew everything about friendship.
D 25. B 26. C 27. D 28. C
根据原文开头部分“We often say...when we’re making bad choices?”
原文倒数第二段“According to Confucius, we can tell what kind of person someone is by what they encourage us to do.”
根据原文最后一段“Some activities, like playing video games, may bring short-term joy. But they can become a problem if they make you forget important tasks.” “some things can be enjoyable but may distract us from important tasks”是相同含义转述。
原文倒数第二段“If they guide us toward good things that help us grow, they are true friends. But if they support bad actions, they are not to be trusted.”
全文核心即原文倒数第二段“If they guide us toward good things that help us grow, they are true friends. But if they support bad actions, they are not to be trusted.”
B
—Adapted from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

按故事的发展顺序:第一段“found a cake on the floor. She went up and soon ate all the cake.”对应事件a;第二段“She sat down, and had a good cry till there was a large pool all round her.”对应事件d;第三段“The Rabbit started as if shot, dropped the fan and ran off as fast as possible.”对应事件b;第五段“she was now not more than two feet high and still shrinking quite fast.”对应事件c;第六段“was up to her chin in salt water—her own tears.”
根据第四段“Alice picked up the fan and as the hall was hot, she fanned herself. ‘Dear, dear! How strange all things are today! I do wish to get out of the hall! ____’ she said.” 可知,爱丽丝此时渴望离开大厅、对现状感到厌烦,因此“I am tired of this place!”
根据第五段“she was now not more than two feet high and still shrinking quite fast. That was the fan! She realized this and dropped it at once, or she would shrink to the size of an ant soon.”
根据第五段“Then she noticed herself in the glass—she was now not more than two feet high and still shrinking quite fast. That was the fan! She realized this and dropped it at once, or she would shrink to the size of an ant soon.”
根据第四段“I do wish to get out of the hall!”、第六段“How can I get out?”和第七段“Will it be useful now to speak to this mouse? ... At least there’s no harm to try.”

Graduation party was a great success! All my friends received wonderful presents: a diamond, a watch, or something else special. I was wondering what surprise my family prepared for me.
And when I got home there was the pink dresser set (梳妆盒)! The one in Mr. Schiller’s store that I always admired! Mama and Papa smiled at my excitement.
The next morning, I showed my wonderful dresser set to my sister Christine. She looked at me and said, “__________________________”
“What? That’ s the only thing her mother left her! If I knew I would never let her...” I started to cry then, and Papa touched my shoulder gently. “Mama wanted you to be happy, more than she wanted the brooch (胸针).”
I knew what I must do. And on my way to the store, I thought of how difficult it was for Mama to ask Mr.Schiller to take the brooch as payment (抵偿).
Mr.Schiller checked the dresser set carefully. Bravely, I asked, if he would give me back the brooch, I would work for him every single day of my summer vacation. He kindly agreed. It was not so hard as I thought.
I left the store not only with Mama’ s brooch, but with a job that started tomorrow. I felt very proud. It seemed that the dresser set suddenly became a childish and silly thing.

Last term I struggled with physics. I didn’t give up but stuck to a daily study plan and turned to others for help. Tired as I was, I reminded myself: if the Red Army marched thousands of miles, I could beat my troubles.
