It is the year 2050. The dream of enjoying holidays in space has come true. Do you want to become a space traveller? Here, some middle school students share their ideas.
I would love to go to space. From there, I can enjoy the beauty of the Earth. I want to know what it’s like to live without gravity(重力). Maybe it will be fun to play golf in space.
-- Klaudia, Spain
It can be dangerous to travel to space. What will happen if I get lost? Besides, I’m afraid of heights. When you look down upon the Earth from a spaceship, it can be very scary.
-- Emily, the US
I don’t want to be a space traveller. For me, I only care about what I have on this planet, like my family, my school and my pets. I would like to work hard and try to do the best with what I’m doing now.
-- Anna, the US
I’d love to! We learned about the space in science class last week. It will be great to see all kinds of wonderful things that you can’t see on the Earth.
-- Zainab, South Africa
That will be cool. However, I will miss my family. Also, it takes a lot of training to become a space traveller. I don’t think I have time for that. And I don’t have enough money to pay for the trip.

The summer vacation is a time to enjoy a change from the school year. It’s a good chance to work on different activities that you don’t have much time to do during the rest of the year.
We asked about 2,000 people what they would do during the summer vacation. Most of the survey-takers agreed that the summer vacation was a break from homework and they could relax.
Alexis said,“At school,I’m really tired,so during the summer vacation I can read books and do many outdoor activities.”
Amy is in high school. After school, she sometimes works in a cafe. She told us,“It’s a chance to relax after a hard school year—sleep more, and visit my friends more.”
We also asked them if they would be too busy or kind of bored.About half (52%) of the survey-takers said they would be busy during the summer vacation but still have time to relax. And that is exactly how it should be.
But not everyone said their summer vacation would be the right balance(平衡) between being busy and relaxing. Many thought that they would be too bored.

The most basic and powerful way to connect(沟通)with another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our full attention(注意力).
When people are talking, just listen to what they’re saying. Care about it. Most of the time caring about it is even more important than understanding it. It has taken me a long time to believe in the power of saying and meaning “I’m so sorry” when someone is sad.
One of my friends told me that when she tried to tell her story, people often broke in to tell her that something similar happened to them even when she didn’t finish her words. For some reasons, her sadness became a story about them. In the end, she stopped talking to most people. We connect through listening. When we break into what someone is saying to let them know that we understand, we move the focus of attention to ourselves. When we listen, they know we care.
This easy thing isn’t that easy to learn. When I was young, I thought people listened only because they were too shy to speak or did not know the answer. A loving silence(沉默)often has more power to comfort and to connect than the kindest words.
11. In the writer’s eyes, the most important thing we can give people is__________.
A. plenty of money B. lots of freedom C. full attention D. a smile
12. We should__________ when our friends are sad.
A. share our sad stories with them B. listen to their stories and say “I’m so sorry”
C. let them enjoy the silence and not talk about it D. tell them something interesting to make them happy
13. The underlined phrase “broke in” probably means __________in Chinese in the passage.
A. 打断 B. 拒绝 C. 畏惧 D. 同意
14. What can we know from the passage?
A. The only connection between people is listening.
B. Caring about what people say is more important than understanding it.
C. People want others to share their feeling when they are telling their stories.
D. People listen because they are too shy to speak or don’t know the answer.
15. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Being a good listener makes you a good talker.
B. Listening to people isn’t something easy to learn.
C. Most listeners are too shy to show themselves.
D. Sometimes a loving silence does a better job than beautiful words.
D

第三部分 书面表达(共计25分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题,计5分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Body language is an important way people communicate, and we use it every day—even if we don’t think about it much. Some messages are clear to people all over the world without using words. For example, in many countries, people nod their heads to say “yes”, and they put a finger to their mouth to ask others to be quiet.
But body language is not the same in different cultures. In some Western countries, people shrug their shoulders when they don’t understand something or don’t care about it. This gesture is not common in other places. In Asian countries like Japan, people bow to show respect when they meet or say goodbye. People in the West don’t do this.
Sometimes, people think they know about body language in other cultures, but they don’t really. For example, many travelers don’t know how or when to bow in Japan. Kissing is another example. In many European countries, family members and friends kiss women and children on both cheeks when they meet on the street. At parties, Europeans may greet new friends with a kiss on the cheek. Two men usually shake hands and put one hand on each other’s shoulders. In the Middle East, you need to be careful with your feet. It’s very rude to show the bottom of your shoe, or to touch someone with your shoe.
So, body language is just as important as talking when we communicate with people from other cultures.
46. What do people do to show agreement (同意) in many countries?

Dear Li Wen,
I’m sorry to hear that these days you have some problems. I’m willing to help you.
First, don’t be sad about having few friends. Just remember, having a few good friends is much better than having lots of ordinary ones. Try to be more open and share your feelings honestly with others. Second, doing sports is great for you. Why not play volleyball with friends or classmates once a week? It’s fun and keeps you healthy. Lastly, make a study plan and follow it. Plan your week and work hard to make your grades better little by little.
I hope that you can feel better soon.
Yours,
Andy
