C Rivers have always been important for human civilizations. Two famous examples are the Nile and the Yellow River. The Nile, the longest river in Africa (about 6,671 km), played a key role in ancient Egypt. It provided water for farming and transportation. Every year, it flooded, leaving rich soil for crops. This helped ancient Egyptians develop their civilization, building pyramids and creating a writing system. The Yellow River, often called China’s “mother river,” is 5,464 km long. It’s the second longest river in China. Like the Nile, it also flooded, bringing fertile earth. This allowed ancient Chinese to grow crops and develop their own civilization, with inventions like paper and gunpowder. Both rivers are not just long; they are symbols of human progress. Compared with traditional long-form videos, they are more convenient. However, some Chinese researchers have some worries. They have recently studied how short-form videos reshape(重塑) our brains and influence our genes (基因). The new study found that watching short-form videos can increase brain activity in regions connected to reward processing(奖励处理) and emotion regulation (情绪调节). This may lead to various biological and neurological (神经系统的) problems. For the study, the researchers selected 111 college students between the ages of 17 and 30 who liked to use social media. Besides, the study focused on the use of short-form video apps rather than general smartphone use. Researchers collected their brain imaging data using MRI scans (磁共振扫描) to see the neurological effects of short-form videos, especially in terms of structural changes and functional activity in the brain. The results were surprising. Participants who were more addicted(成瘾的) to short-form videos showed functional and structural brain differences compared with others. There was an increase in gray matter volume (灰质体积) in the cerebellum and orbitofrontal cortex, which are important to decision-making, information processing, and emotional control. This makes the brain more sensitive(敏感的) to the quick rewards that one gets from watching one video after another, making it harder to stop. Moreover, the researchers found nearly 500 genes linked to changes in the brain resulting from short-form video addiction. Interestingly, most of these genes are expressed during the teenage years, suggesting that these years are a vulnerable(易受影响的)period during which individuals may be more likely to get addicted to short-form videos. ( )13. What did the research mainly study? A. Teenage behaviors. B. Influence of short-form videos on our body. C. Brain structure. D. Short-form videos’ popularity among the young. ( )14. What does more brain sensitivity lead to? A. Easier addiction. B. Faster learning. C. Better decisions. D. Calmer emotions. ( )15. Why might teenagers be more easily addicted to short-form videos? A. They use phones more. B. They have more free time. C. Some genes are more active at their age. D. Brain development is largely complete by their age. ( )16. Where is this text probably from? A. A health magazine. B. A fitness blog. C. An ad for social media. D. A report on school education. 第二节 还原句子 阅读短文,从方框内所给的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并将其代表字母填写在题前的括号内。其中有一个多余的选项。 Do you often laugh?
