When people are stressed, they usually turn to what is called “comfort food” — food that makes them feel relaxed, content and connected in a way that maybe nothing else can quite match, like chocolate cake or potato chips. While comfort food can bring a sense of happiness and safety, it’s not without risks. Most comfort foods are highly processed, high-calorie and heavy on salt, fat and sugar. Here’s the breakdown of the nutritional profiles of some comfort foods in 2025.

The research shows that we consume processed comfort foods faster than unprocessed or minimally processed foods, taking in up to twice as many calories per minute. Long-term excessive (过量的) intake of unhealthy comfort foods may have negative effects on our physical health.
Not all comfort foods, though, are unhealthy, as seen in this comparison of healthier comfort foods in chart 2. These healthy comfort foods are significantly lower in fat, sugar and calories, most of which are rich in protein or dietary fiber. They can provide the emotional comfort we need, without bringing excessive burden to our body.

During the rosy years of my early school life, I enjoyed every moment with my friends, laughing and chatting non-stop with us girls. Then came my college. I was flooded with people and social activities almost every waking hour. I viewed connections with others as the main goal of my life. Spending time with them provided me with something I wouldn’t be able to find on my own.
However, among endless social activities and midterm schedules, anxieties were growing to a degree I couldn’t handle. Spending time alone meant coming face to face with the unease deep in my heart. A voice in the back of my mind would pipe up every now and then, questioning whether I was truly doing what was right for me.
It wasn’t until I studied at the Stanford in Washington program that something changed. One afternoon, I was left alone to visit the Botanic Garden. The pleasant air and unusual plants calmed me down. I sat quietly, feeling everything around me. I realized I was enjoying myself alone for the first time.
That experience helped me know where I wanted to go in life. I became more comfortable with travelling, studying or trying new hobbies in my own company. And I began to read books that interested me. As I turned the pages, I made many friends. I cried for Juliet when she awoke to find the love of her life dead. I had a long journey with Captain Nemo, experiencing exciting adventures under the sea. The list was endless. What amazed me most was that I could finally balance social life and me time.
Being alone doesn’t necessarily cause loneliness. Author Amy Morin describes it best when she says: “Loneliness is about understanding that no one is there for you. But being alone is about making a choice to be with your thoughts.” I have made the right choice, and I’ll stay true to it.
24. What can be learned about the author from the first paragraph?
A. She was fond of socializing. B. She longed to go to college.
C. She had a creative mind. D. She was particular about friends.
25. What made the author increasingly anxious?
A. Taking midterm tests. B. Being torn between choices.
C. Answering many questions. D. Losing connection with friends.
26. Who are the people mentioned in paragraph 4?
A. Stanford friends. B. Fictional characters. C. Modern writers. D. Book sellers.
27. What does the author’s experience show?
A. Spending time alone can be rewarding. B. Fewer activities mean fewer life troubles.
C. Too much socializing ruins one’s college life. D. Reading alone is the best way to make friends.

John, a farmer in Kansas, USA, oversees his large family farm, having his father’s dark skin but none of the rough hands like a traditional farmer. He walks to the edge of the 300-hectare field and flies a silver drone (无人机) to map the field and examine from above to check whether the wheat lacks water.
What makes all this possible is Edge AI — a new type that combines IoT (a network of sensors) and AI. Sensors (传感器) collect data on weather, soil, crops and pests, then AI analyzes it to help farmers make scientific decisions. In the past few years, many governments and companies worldwide have been pouring large sums of money into AI and smart farming, achieving precise watering and early disease checks.
Traditional cloud-based AI needs constant Internet and power. Take Carlos, a small farmer in New Mexico who grows wheat on just 2 hectares, for example. He knows smart farming could help, but with poor Internet, no training and high costs, he says, “It’s too expensive and too hard.” Another problem is high energy use. Many sensors need constant power, yet in rural areas like Carlos’s village where there is no stable electricity, farmers have to replace batteries often, creating e-waste, and solar devices work poorly on cloudy days.
Compared with that, Edge AI runs models directly on local devices(sensors, cameras, drones), not on distant clouds. This cuts delays and works well even with poor Internet or unstable power supply. Besides, Edge AI is cheaper. With low-power chips (芯片) and on-device intelligence, it reduces waste and makes smart farming affordable for small farms like Carlos’s.
As the global population rises past 8 billion and food demand grows, Edge AI offers real hope. It can help farmers all over the world produce more food with fewer resources, reduce hunger and finally overcome the world’s food crisis. The future of farming is smart, fair, green and within everyone’s reach.
28. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Flying drones on his family farm. B. Managing his farm with drones.
C. Checking crop water conditions. D. Engaging in traditional agriculture.
29. Why does Carlos refuse smart farming?
A. It is risky and impractical. B. It is costly and demanding.
C. He doesn’t believe in it. D. He has no access to it.
30. Which is one advantage of Edge AI?
A. Stability of water supply. B. Owning powerful sensors.
C. Localization of model operation. D. Requiring no Internet or power.
31. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The issues facing the world. B. The features of smart farming.
C. The promising future of Edge AI. D. The crisis of the population growth.
D
Social media isn’t just a different platform — it’s changing how we find news, and whom we trust to give it to us. A large number of people say they don’t need to look for news from traditional media like newspapers or television. They think news will just find them through social media and its algorithms (算法). This is what researchers already found in 2020.
Recently, a new research published in Social Media + Society has also found that people who wait for news to find them on social media also consider their online networks to be as trustworthy as professional news editors and journalists.
The study was based on an experiment with 244 participants. First, a survey found out how likely they were to wait for social media to bring them the news rather than finding it themselves. Then, they were randomly shown one of three simulated (模拟的) news feeds. The content in each was the same, but one was designed to seem like a news editor was recommending the articles, one seemed like it was coming from friends on social media, and one seemed to come from an algorithm. The participants were then asked how much they trusted the news they’d seen.
People who were more likely to look for news themselves trusted news editors and journalists more than online networks and algorithms. However, people who usually waited for news to be recommended to them trusted what came from online friends and algorithms as much as they trusted professional sources.
The researchers say this could make these people more vulnerable (易受伤害的) to misinformation, as it’s easier to use algorithms and social networks to control the information people see.
This finding is of significance for future public education and online management. Experts can carry out more targeted education to help ordinary users build correct news-judging habits to reduce the risk of being misled by false information. This study also provides practical evidence for future online rule-making.
32. What has the new research found?
A. The majority will read the news on the traditional media.
B. Some people are addicted to the news on social media.
C. Those found by news think online networks reliable as well.
D. Professional news editors and journalists are trustworthy.
33. Why was the content of the news feeds designed to be the same?
A. To test the reliability of the news. B. To treat different media with fairness.
C. To standardize the sources of the news. D. To compare the results of the responses.
34. What does the author think of the experiment?
A. Valuable. B. Dangerous. C. Traditional. D. Complex.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Social Media: the Source of Misinformation B. Social Media: People’s New Go-to for News
C. Social Media Outperforms Traditional Ones D. Social Media Changes Whom We Trust for News

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Maplewood Elementary’s monthly Field Day was bright as the sun hung high overhead. The highlight of the day, the 100-meter dash, had children in brilliant-colored T-shirts lining up, buzzing with enthusiasm. Among them was 10-year-old Victor, a thin and competitive boy, whose only aim was to win, at any cost.
However, Victor wasn’t the quickest runner in his class. Grace, a cheerful, kind-hearted and popular girl with lightning-fast legs had that title. Still, Victor remained determined. He had practiced hard for weeks, picturing the applause of the audience as he passed the finish line first. It would be his day today, he told himself.
The whistle blew, and the youngsters ran off like wild horses. As Victor ran, he caught sight of Grace pulling several steps ahead from the corner of his eye. His heart pounded with fear. He couldn’t miss. NOT AGAIN! Then Victor decided in a single second to do something he would soon regret. He turned suddenly and slightly to Grace’s side as they approached the last curve, which isolated (隔离) Grace. Grace tripped and fell.
Finally, Victor became the first to cross the finish line, and he got the applause he had been longing for.
However, Victor stayed awake that evening, unable to fall asleep. Grace’s tearful eyes kept playing in his head. He turned over, the medal shining on his bedside table in the moonlight. It felt more like a reminder of what he had done than like a prize now. The school was having a sportsmanship award ceremony the following day. Both Victor and Grace were invited to give a speech. He understood he didn’t deserve (值得) it. He was too guilty and scared to expect what would follow.
Then came the day. Mrs. White, the P.E. teacher, looked around and began her speech in a gentle but powerful voice, “Competition is not about who is strongest or fastest, but it’s about who exhibits the most sportsmanship...” Unexpectedly, Victor’s secret was not exposed. However, he didn’t feel relieved.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;

Together, they have planted over 1.5 million trees. To protect the newly planted trees, the local government has introduced strict rules. When people fail to obey the rules, the government will prevent them from entering local tourist attractions. The project has brought real benefits.

Chart 2: Based on a 100g serving
Therefore, for the world’s stressed eaters, the good news is that you don’t necessarily have to reach for that pint of ice cream in order to get comfort. You can almost certainly find relief in another way. Choose healthier comfort food, which will not only lift your mood but also keep you fit.
21. How much sugar do you get from 200g chocolate cake?
A. 29.16g. B. 40.23g. C. 80.46g. D. 122.90g.
22. Which of the following is a smarter choice for a stressed eater?
A. Ice cream. B. Potato chips.
C. Macaroni and cheese. D. Baked sweet potatoes.
23. Where is this passage most likely from?
A. A health magazine. B. A cooking guide. C. A physics textbook. D. A food advertisement.
【答案】21. C 22. D 23. A
【解析】
【导语】文章主要对比高热量安慰食品与健康替代品的数据,倡导选择健康食物兼顾情绪调节与身体健康。
【21题详解】
细节理解题。根据“Chart 1: Based on a 100g serving(图表1:以100克份量为计算基准)”中“Chocolate cake,Sugar(g),40.23(巧克力蛋糕,糖分(克),40.23)”可知,每100克巧克力蛋糕含糖40.23克,200克则含糖80.46克。
【22题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Not all comfort foods, though, are unhealthy, as seen in this comparison of healthier comfort foods in chart 2. These healthy comfort foods are significantly lower in fat, sugar and calories, most of which are rich in protein or dietary fiber. They can provide the emotional comfort we need, without bringing excessive burden to our body.(然而,并非所有安慰食品都对健康有害,如表2中对比的更健康的安慰食品所示。

B
【答案】24. A 25. B 26. B 27. A
【解析】
【导语】文章主要讲述作者从热衷社交到学会享受独处,最终平衡社交与独处时光的成长经历。
【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中“I viewed connections with others as the main goal of my life. Spending time with them provided me with something I wouldn’t be able to find on my own.(我把与他人建立联系视为人生的主要目标。和他们共度的时光让我获得了独自无法找到的东西)”可知,作者喜爱社交。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“However, among endless social activities and midterm schedules, anxieties were growing to a degree I couldn’t handle. Spending time alone meant coming face to face with the unease deep in my heart. A voice in the back of my mind would pipe up every now and then, questioning whether I was truly doing what was right for me.(然而,在无休止的社交活动和期中考试安排中,焦虑感加剧到了我难以承受的地步。独处就意味着要直面内心深处的惶恐不安。脑海深处总有个声音不时冒出来,质疑我是否真的在做对自己正确的事)”可知,作者在社交与独处的选择间挣扎导致焦虑加剧。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“I cried for Juliet when she awoke to find the love of her life dead. I had a long journey with Captain Nemo, experiencing exciting adventures under the sea.(朱丽叶醒来发现毕生挚爱离世时我为之落泪。我与尼摩船长一同远航,体验了海底惊心动魄的冒险)”可知,Juliet和Captain Nemo均为文学作品中的虚构角色。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Being alone doesn’t necessarily cause loneliness.(独处并不一定会带来孤独)”及第四段中“What amazed me most was that I could finally balance social life and me time.(最令我惊讶的是,我终于能在社交生活与自我时间之间取得平衡)”可知,作者的经历表明独处能带来积极收获。
C
【答案】28. B 29. B 30. C 31. C

【答案】32. C 33. D 34. A 35. D

Many people give up learning a foreign language because they hold some wrong ideas about it. These wrong beliefs prevent them from stepping out of their comfort zone and experiencing the joy of language learning. ____36____ Language experts have summed up several common misunderstandings and explained the truth behind them.
The first misunderstanding links language learning only to grammar and vocabulary. There is no doubt that grammar and vocabulary lay a solid foundation for language learning, yet language is essentially a tool for daily communication. When picking up a new language, we can get a chance to explore diverse histories, cultures and lifestyles. ____37____
The second one holds that mistakes in language learning are embarrassing and should be avoided. Traditional classroom learning always stresses accuracy (精确度) above everything else. ____38____ Even native speakers make errors in daily talks, and small mistakes will not prevent effective communication at all. So we should focus more on expressing ourselves rather than fearing mistakes.
Thirdly, some people believe it is tough to learn one new language, let alone two. ____39____ Actually, school-taught languages may not suit your life needs as an adult. So, choosing a language based on personal interest helps maintain motivation and persistence through learning difficulties.
____40____ Group learning brings better progress and experience. You can join conversation groups, chat on online forums or learn together with your family members. Modern learning apps also make group study easy and enjoyable. With flexible learning schedules and clear goals, language learning can become a relaxing and rewarding experience.
A. But things are quite different in real-life communication.
B. Luckily, it is never too late to correct these false views.
C. Learners tend to prefer fluency to accuracy in daily study.
D. Besides, language learning is wrongly seen as an individual task.
E. People often ignore the cultural value behind language learning.

第二节(满分25分)
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Now it was Victor’s turn and he decided to do what was right.

After the ceremony, Grace found Victor and offered to train with him.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Now it was Victor’s turn and he decided to do what was right. Taking a deep breath, Victor gathered his courage and stepped onto the stage, trembling slightly. Hanging his head low to avoid the audience’s eyes, he honestly admitted what he had done to Grace. “I don’t deserve this.” Guilty tears welling up in his eyes, Victor took off his medal, held it out respectfully, and apologized sincerely to Grace for his unfair and unsportsmanlike behavior. There was a moment of dead silence. Then the whole room burst into applause. Half shocked and half disbelieving, Victor raised his head, and was greeted by everyone’s encouraging smile, including Grace. Grace smiled gently, and refused to take the medal, “Keep it as a reminder.”
After the ceremony, Grace found Victor and offered to train with him. Victor never expected Grace would make such an offer. He froze, unable to utter a word. Grace smiled warmly, “Maybe we can make progress together.” Deeply touched by her extraordinary generosity, Victor nodded his head repeatedly. From that day on, the two trained together every afternoon. Grace coached Victor on timing himself, and Victor coached Grace on how to maintain her balance. The following Field Day arrived. Victor made great progress, second to Grace. However, this time, he felt proud, because he finally understood true competition meant cooperation and mutual progress, and only by learning from each other could both sides achieve win-win growth.
