二、阅读理解
Learn to Survive Natural Disasters
Our world has beautiful natural views, but nature also has a bad temper and brings terrible natural disasters: typhoons, tsunamis, wildfires, landslides, droughts and snowstorms. If we learn enough knowledge and make full preparations, we can protect ourselves well.
A true story about Tilly Smith shows how school lessons can save lives. In 2004, Tilly was walking on a beach in Thailand when she noticed unusual thick froth on the sea. She remembered her geography teacher’s words: undersea earthquakes can cause tsunamis. She warned her family and the hotel security guard at once. People left the beach in time, so no one there died, though the tsunami caused over 200,000 deaths in other places.
Different disasters need different preparation skills:
1. Typhoon: Before it hits, cover windows, store food and water supplies, move things away from the floor. Stay inside while strong winds are blowing. Do not drive during the storm — landslides may happen along roads.
2. Wildfire: Dry drought and heatwave make wildfires easy to break out. If you see fire smoke, leave the area right away. Firefighters and volunteers work bit by bit to clear fire zones and save villages.
3. Tsunami: When you see seawater draw back suddenly, run to high ground immediately. Do not stay on the coast to watch.
Nature is both a kind mother and a cold-blooded killer. We should stay curious about natural wonders, but also stay alert to natural risks. Learning survival skills can help us survive difficult conditions and stay alive.

书面表达参考范文
An Unlucky Rainstorm Day
Last Friday was terribly unlucky for me. My alarm clock didn’t go off, so I woke up late and rushed to the bus stop.
While I was reviewing my exam notes waiting for the bus, thunder rolled all of a sudden. It began to pour heavily, and I got cold and wet. By the time the bus arrived, there was a landslide on the road, so we were late.
When I ran into the classroom out of breath, my teacher told us we wouldn’t have the test at all. What bad luck I had that day!
