A team of about 35 employees (员工) came together for a team building event. They were a young, bright and enthusiastic team. However, one of their problems was that they wouldn’t share information or solutions with each other, and the team leader thought they were too focused on themselves and not on the team. As a result, he brought them into the dining hall. All of the tables and chairs had been moved away, and fun decorations and hundreds of colored balloons were placed around the room.
In the center of the room was a big box of balloons. The team leader let everybody pick a balloon, blow it up, and write their name on it, but they had to be careful not to burst the balloon. They were given a second chance if their first balloon popped (爆裂). In the end, about 30 team members wrote their names without their balloons popping. They were then asked to leave the room. After five minutes, the team leader brought them back in and asked them to find the balloon with their name on it among the hundreds of other balloons in the room. After 15 minutes of searching, no one found their balloons and then the team were told that they were then going to move on to the third round of the activity.
In this round, everyone would find any balloon with a name on it and then give that balloon to the person whose name was on it. Within two minutes, everybody had their own balloon.
The manager explained the lesson of this game: If we share and work together, we can finish work faster and solve problems better. If we only think about our own aims, we will make things hard for the whole team. Everyone should often think about what they can do to help their team.
8. What does the underlined word “burst” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Rise quickly. B. Drop slowly. C. Break suddenly.
9. Which is the right order?
① The leader held a team building activity.

③ They looked for their own balloons for 15 minutes.
④ People blew up balloons and wrote names on them.
A. ①→④→③→② B. ②→①→④→③ C. ④→②→①→③
10. What can we infer from the 15-minute search result?
A. The members were not smart enough.
B. Working alone makes things difficult.
C. The balloons were too small to see clearly.
11. What can we know about the team leader?
A. He is strict and unfriendly to employees.
B. He is good at guiding and educating his team.

An ecosystem (生态系统) includes all the living and non-living things in an area. Ecosystems can be of different sizes, from small ponds to large grasslands. Each ecosystem has a role to play and helps keep the balance among all its members.
____12____ It covers around 71% of the earth’s surface and produces about 70% of the earth’s oxygen. It holds plenty of water, and the water rises to the sky, falls onto the lands and then returns to the ocean. This goes on and on, so the ocean is just like the “heart” of the earth.
Wetlands only cover about 6% of the earth’s land area. ____13____ Plants in wetlands help get rid of pollution and make the water clean. Wetlands can also help prevent floods. During heavy rains, wetlands store water like giant sponges. They act like the “kidneys” of the earth.
Forests make up nearly a third of the earth’s land area. ____14____ They also trap pollution in their leaves and help clean the air. Therefore, people often call forests the “lungs” of the earth.
All different ecosystems on the earth are closely connected. ____15____ We should protect every ecosystem on our planet.
根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入文中空白处的最佳选项,选项中有一项为多余选项。
A. The ocean is a very large ecosystem on earth.
B. People can build more ecosystems to protect our earth.

【15题详解】
最后一段指出:“All different ecosystems on the earth are closely connected.”, 前文点明各类生态系统联系紧密,C项“Small changes in one place may influence the whole ecosystem.”

由上文“shook her head and explained”可知,句子用的是一般过去时,因此that引导的宾语从句也应用一般过去时,提示词can’t应用过去式couldn’t或could not。
afford to do sth.

Imagine a dinosaur in an ancient forest. It is running around looking for its next meal. With an angry cry, it opens its mouth, raises its beautiful feather-covered arms, and…
Wait, feathers on a dinosaur? For hundreds of years, people believed that dinosaurs looked like huge lizards. Just look at all those dinosaurs in books, films and TV shows! However, thanks to a piece of amber, scientists now know that this idea is wrong. In the amber from Southeast Asia, they found the tail of a dinosaur-with feathers.
These beautiful golden stones quietly keep pieces of the past. They can tell us whether dinosaurs had feathers, but that’s not all. They also help us understand that life on earth has always changed. A piece of amber from Northern Europe, for example, holds a flower. This species no longer grows in this area. But the find proves that it did 35 million years ago. In the future, amber may also help us discover if other species have changed over time.
Thanks to amber, more than 300 unknown species have been discovered. In a piece of amber from Africa, scientists found 13 ants. Research shows that they are a completely new species. Scientists used to believe that ants came from the northern half of the earth. The discovery of this African species has changed old beliefs about the history of ants. Who knows whether this piece of amber will tell us more secrets?
As a window on the past, amber has been much studied. However, it’s still not fully understood. We should put more effort into research. Then we can use this key to explore more secrets of nature.
56. What’s the purpose of the writer writing paragraph 1 like this?
To catch/draw readers’ ____________ (填入1个单词).
57. Why does the writer mention the amber from Northern Europe?
To prove that amber helps us understand ______________________ (填入一个句子).
58. What was the old belief about the history of ants?
_____________________________________________________
59. What does the writer compare (比喻) amber to in paragraph 5?
_____________________________________________________
