Grammar Practice 1: Summarize the Rules
Analyze the Sentence Patterns

Use: To express a result caused by the degree of a noun.

1.目的状语从句
如果从句表示的是主句行为的目的,该从句就是目的状语从句。目的状语从句可以由so that引导。例如:
Mulan dressed like a man so that she could join the army.
I got up very early so that I could get to school on time.
从以上句子中我们可以看出,目的状语从句有一个特点:从句中一般都含有表示可能性的词语,比如上面两句中的could。其他可以表示可能性的词语还有will,would,can等。
2.结果状语从句
结果状语从句主要由such...that,so...that等引导,表示由于某个行为而导致的结果。例如:
He came to such a sudden stop that I almost hit him.
他突然停下来,我差点撞上他。
He worked so hard that he won the first prize.
他学习如此努力, 获得了一等奖。
such...that,so...that用法区别
一、核心区别:修饰对象与结构不同
1. such...that 的核心用法
修饰对象:后接名词短语(形容词+ 名词),强调 “事物的程度 / 性质”
基本结构:such + (a/an) + 形容词 + 名词 + that 从句
可数名词单数:such + a/an + 形容词 + 名词 + that...
可数名词复数/ 不可数名词:such + 形容词 + 名词 + that...
2. so...that 的核心用法
修饰对象:后接形容词/ 副词,强调 “动作 / 状态的程度”
基本结构:so + 形容词 / 副词 + that 从句
特殊情况(修饰名词):so + many/much/few/little(表数量) + 名词 + that...
(注:此处little 表 “数量少”,而非 “性质小”)
修饰 “形容词 + 可数名词单数”

so much + 不可数名词:
She has so much housework to do that she can't go out.
so few + 可数名词复数(表 “少”):

so little + 不可数名词(表 “少”):
