Dear Bob,
Knowing from your letter that you are interested in robots, I am writing to share my wonderful experience with you.
What attracts me most is a companion robot that is exactly like a human being. It can walk and talk just like a person does. The companion robot is supposed to be a friend for people who live alone, and it could provide people with a lot of comfort and enrich their lives. In addition, the robot could help monitor the health condition of people. Personally, I do see the companion robot as a solution to people’s problems.
I wish I could visit the robot exhibition with you next time.
Yours,
Li Hua
An idea occurred to me right then. I shouted, “We can use the fishing net to rescue them!” My friends agreed immediately. We held one end of the net and threw the other end towards the mother and the child. The mother understood our intention and grabbed the net tightly. We started to pull them slowly towards the bank, but it wasn’t easy as the current was strong. The rain continued to pour down, making the situation even more challenging. But we were determined not to give up.
Finally, shoulder to shoulder, we pulled the mother and child to safety. They were both very weak and scared. We comforted them and wrapped them in blankets to keep them warm. Soon, the rescue team arrived. The mother thanked us with tears in her eyes, saying that we were her heroes. We felt relieved and proud that we could save their lives in such a dangerous situation. This camping trip, which was supposed to be a peaceful and enjoyable getaway, turned into an unforgettable and thrilling adventure for us.

Human’s pursuit of beauty begins at an early age. The fact is perfectly true for young ladies. When Scarlett and her classmates were in fifth grade, they started to worry about getting wrinkles. By the time she turned 14, Scarlett and her friends were spending hours on TikTok and YouTube watching people talk about products to make their skin look nice: a wet, shiny, perfect skin. Scarlett made a big skin care routine with face wash, sprays, hydrating covers and creams.
One night, Scarlett’s skin began to burn intensely and got bubbles. Using too much strong stuff for grown-ups made her skin very bad. Scarlett’s experience is common now, experts say, as young girls go to beauty stores to buy fancy skin care products, a trend seen in popular videos with the hashtag #SephoraKids.
Things like retinol and chemical scrubs like hydroxy acids are very strong. Young or sensitive skin can get red, peel and burn that can cause infections, spots and too much sensitivity if not used right, skin doctors say.
“The focus on skin care is more than just wanting perfect skin. It’s about feeling accepted and belonging to a community that has the lifestyle and look you want,” says 14-year-old Mia Hall. More than the harm to the body, parents and child psychologists worry about how this trend can affect girls’ feelings and thoughts for a long time. A lot of information shows that being too focused on looks can hurt how you feel about yourself and your body and can cause worry, sadness and eating problems.
The amount of detail and information girls get from beauty lessons sends a bad message at a time when they are growing up and finding out who they are, says Charlotte Markey, a body image expert and a teacher at Rutgers University.
24. What was Scarlett’s concern when she was in fifth grade?
A. Getting wrinkles. B. Her skin not being shiny.
C. Her skin’s hydration. D. Being rejected by her friends.
25. What happened to Scarlett’s skin after using adult-strength products?
A. Her skin became flawless. B. Her skin turned red and peel.
C. Her skin became very smooth. D. Her skin started to burn and blister.
26. Why are some skin care products harmful for young or sensitive skin?
A. They are too expensive. B. They are not sold in beauty stores.
C. They are designed for older people. D. They can cause redness, peeling, and burning.
27. What is the possible result of too much focus on skin care?
A. It improves understanding of proper skin care routines.
B. It can lead to anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
C. It helps to build better self-esteem and confidence.
D. It encourages healthy relationships with peers.

Recently, the Solvia ED AI Binoculars (双筒望远镜), created by Shenzhen-based Matatalab, is an all-in-one outdoor tool that redefines what a telescope can do. Launched on Kickstarter, it quickly exploded onto global trending lists, celebrated by overseas users as a “game-changer” and “absolute legend” for integrating high-end optics (光学), real-time photography, and instant AI recognition into one portable device and dominating tech discussions across TikTok, Twitter, and international forums.
Unlike common telescopes, this signature product with AI technology solves the age-old problem of “can see but can’t shoot.” It can help users watch clearly, take high-quality photos and videos easily, and recognize different living things at the same time, without switching devices, manual focus or delay. What users see through the telescope is recorded at once without any delay. Besides, built-in AI image stabilization, and low-light enhancement ensure excellent shots even in challenging conditions. Wi-Fi lets you instantly share photos / videos to your phone or social media.
Trained on over 100 GB of wildlife data, the binoculars identifies more than 10,000 species of birds, plants, and wildlife in one second with 98% accuracy. It is very helpful for nature lovers, hikers and students. Even beginners instantly become nature experts, with species information popping up on the connected phone app.
The product is light and easy to carry, and it works well in different outdoor situations. But this isn’t just a small device — it’s a tremendous shift in outdoor exploration. By combining “see + shoot + identify” in one device, it turns casual observers into documentarians and nature lovers into instant experts. As one foreign blogger put it, “This isn’t just a telescope. It’s a pocket naturalist and a high-end camera rolled into one — absolutely legendary.” This creative invention has become a new example of how Chinese products surprise the world.
28. What has made the Shenzhen AI telescope famous abroad?
A. Its low price. B. Its large size.
C. Its multiple functions. D. Its eye-catching appearance.
29. What is an advantage the AI telescope has over the previous ones?
A. It can be easily carried outdoors. B. It can be used only in good weather.
C. It can record the view in real time. D. It can work without Internet access.
30. What does the underlined word “documentarians” mean?
A. Those who enjoy watching documentary. B. Those who are fond of going outdoors.
C. Those who have great passion for nature. D. Those who specialize in recording life.
31. From which is the passage probably taken?
A. A news report. B. A science fiction.
C. A survey paper. D. An academic essay.
D
Decision fatigue (决策疲劳) is a psychological phenomenon where the quality of decisions declines after a long session of decision-making. It is caused by the limited mental energy we have for making choices each day. While many of us believe we are logical beings capable of weighing every option carefully, decision fatigue shows how our mental resources can be used up over time.
One of the key studies on this phenomenon was conducted in the context of parole hearings Researchers found that judges were more likely to approve of parole early in the day or after a meal break. As the day progressed and the judges made more decisions, they were increasingly likely to maintain their previous decisions, denying parole simply because it required less mental effort.
Decision fatigue not only affects major life choices but also everyday decisions. For instance, people often report struggling to decide what to eat for dinner after a long day. Similarly, too many choices, such as when looking through streaming platforms or online stores, can leave individuals feeling confused, leading them to abandon the process entirely or settle for a less satisfying option.
To overcome decision fatigue, some well-known figures have adopted strategies to simplify their daily routines. For example, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is famous for wearing the same style of gray T-shirts to minimize unnecessary choices. Similarly, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert Einstein was known for owing multiple identical suits to avoid wasting energy on deciding what to wear each day. In a different context, author Haruki Murakami has shared that he maintains a strict daily routine, including specific writing hours and exercise, to free up mental capacity for his creative work.
Understanding decision fatigue can help us structure our lives more effectively. Prioritizing important decisions earlier in the day or setting up routines to minimize unnecessary choices are strategies to preserve mental energy. By managing our mental resources wisely, we can make sound decisions and reduce the stress associated with overwhelming choices
32. What leads to decision fatigue according to the text?
A. The lack of time to make decisions.
B. The difficulty of making logical choices.
C. The stress from making important decisions.
D. The limited mental energy for decision-making.
33. What does the study on parole hearings reveal?
A. Judges are much stricter after long breaks.
B. Decision fatigue can lead to unfair outcomes.
C. Fatigue causes judges to avoid complicated cases.
D. External factors have no impact on decision-making.
34. What does the author suggest readers shopping online do?
A. Make quick decisions. B. Compare different products.
C. Limit the number of choices. D. Choose the most popular products.
35. What is the purpose of adopting routines?
A. To reduce the stress of daily work. B. To increase decision-making quality.
C. To enhance overall life satisfaction. D. To create more decision-making chances

Last weekend, my friends Alex and Taylor and I went camping. We had no idea that this experience would lead to a moment we’d never forget.
On that day, we took a pretty road that went through a peaceful countryside, and reached the camping ground after walking for about half an hour from the parking lot. We built the camp next to a small river, and spent our time observing plantation (种植地) and insects. In the afternoon, it was getting a little dark and cold, so we built a campfire. Then we went to the river and caught some fish for supper. Suddenly, a heavy rain started. We had to stay in the camp and waited for the rain to stop.
While I was sitting in the camp, getting bored, I saw something strange—a quick flash of white, then a loud noise. When we looked through the trees, we were shocked to see a white car was partially submerged (淹没) in the river. A scared woman was shouting for help, with her kid crying next to her.
“They are in the water. Help them”, I screamed. We quickly jumped to help, running out of the camp and calling 911.
Fortunately, the woman had managed to escape the car and pulled her kid out. But she was tired and hardly had energy enough to swim out of the water.
“We need to find something to help them!” I said, with my heart beating really fast.
“We have to hurry! The car began to sink,” Taylor said.
I felt scared when I heard the mother’s desperate cry for help. The child’s screams were very sad, and I knew we were their only hope. We must act now, and never give up! When the lightning flashed in the sky, I spotted our fishing net on the ground.

Before arriving, I expected crowded cities and food that would be too strange for my taste. However, from the moment I landed in Shanghai, I was surprised by how modern and clean everything was. The high-speed trains were incredibly efficient, making travel between cities effortless. In Beijing, I explored the Forbidden City and was amazed by its rich history spanning hundreds of years. But what impressed me most was something really unexpected. One afternoon, I got lost in a small neighborhood, and a stranger noticed my confusion. Despite the language barrier, she used a translation app to guide me back to my hotel. That small act of kindness meant so much. I also discovered a love for Chinese food — not just famous dishes, but everyday street food that was both delicious and affordable. By the end of my six-day journey, I realized China is a vibrant, modern nation filled with friendly people. That 144-hour policy gave me just enough time to fall in love with this country.

A 25. D 26. D 27. B
根据第一段“When Scarlett and her classmates were in fifth grade, they started to worry about getting wrinkles.(当Scarlett和她的同学们上五年级时,他们开始担心长皱纹。)”
根据第二段“One night, Scarlett’s skin began to burn intensely and got bubbles. Using too much strong stuff for grown-ups made her skin very bad.(一天晚上,思嘉的皮肤开始剧烈地灼烧起来,冒出了泡泡。用了太多成人专用的强力物品,使她的皮肤非常糟糕。)”可知,用了成人护肤产品后,Scarlett的皮肤开始灼烧起水泡。故选D。
26.细节理解题。根据第三段“Things like retinol and chemical scrubs like hydroxy acids are very strong. Young or sensitive skin can get red, peel and burn that can cause infections, spots and too much sensitivity if not used right, skin doctors say.(像视黄醇和像果酸这样的化学擦剂是非常强的。皮肤医生说,如果使用不当,年轻或敏感的皮肤会变红、脱皮和灼伤,从而导致感染、斑点和过度敏感。)”可知,有些护肤品对年轻或敏感皮肤有害是因为它们会导致发红、脱皮和灼烧。故选D。
27.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“A lot of information shows that being too focused on looks can hurt how you feel about yourself and your body and can cause worry, sadness and eating problems.(很多信息表明,过于关注外表会损害你对自己和身体的感觉,还会引发担忧、悲伤和饮食问题。)”
C
C 29. C 30. D 31. A
根据第一段“Launched on Kickstarter, it quickly exploded onto global trending lists, celebrated by overseas users as a “game-changer” and “absolute legend” for integrating high-end optics (光学), real-time photography, and instant AI recognition into one portable device and dominating tech discussions across TikTok, Twitter, and international forums.(它在Kickstarter平台上启动后,迅速登上了全球热门榜单,海外用户将其誉为“游戏规则改变者”和“绝对传奇”,称赞其将高端光学、实时摄影以及即时AI识别功能整合到了一款便携设备中,并在TikTok、推特和国际论坛上主导了科技讨论)”可知,它将高端光学(光学)、实时摄影和即时AI识别整合到一个便携设备中”,正是融合了这三大功能让它走红。故选C。
根据第二段中“Unlike common telescopes, this signature product with AI technology solves the age-old problem of “can see but can’t shoot.”(与普通望远镜不同,这款融合了人工智能技术的特色产品解决了“能看但不能拍摄”的长期难题)”和“What users see through the telescope is recorded at once without any delay.(用户通过望远镜看到的内容会立即被记录下来,没有任何延迟)”可知,它解决传统望远镜的固有缺陷——虽然能清晰观测,却难以拍摄出优质图像,并且用户通过望远镜所见内容可立刻实时记录,无需任何延迟。故选C。
根据全文内容,结合第一段中“Recently, the Solvia ED AI Binoculars (双筒望远镜), created by Shenzhen-based Matatalab, is an all-in-one outdoor tool that redefines what a telescope can do.(最近,由深圳Matatalab公司研发的Solvia ED人工智能双筒望远镜,是一款集多种功能于一体的户外工具,它重新定义了望远镜所能实现的功能)”可知,本文介绍近期火上外网的由深圳Matatalab(玛塔创想)研发的Solvia ED双筒望火爆,并引用了外国网络博主的点评说明该产品的惊艳,所以是一篇新闻报道,故选A。

D 33. B 34. C 35. B
根据第一段中“It is caused by the limited mental energy we have for making choices each day. (这是由于我们每天用于做选择的精力有限)”可知,决策疲劳是由有限的决策精力导致的。故选D项。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Researchers found that judges were more likely to approve of parole early in the day or after a meal break. As the day progressed and the judges made more decisions, they were increasingly likely to maintain their previous decisions, denying parole simply because it required less mental effort. (研究人员发现,法官在一天早些时候或饭后休息后更有可能批准假释。随着一天的进行,法官做出的决定越多,他们就越有可能维持之前的决定,仅仅因为减少精神努力而拒绝假释)”可知,随着法官做出的决定增多,他们因为决策疲劳而倾向于维持之前的决定,这可能导致不公平的假释结果。由此可推知,关于假释听证会的研究揭示了决策疲劳可能导致不公平的结果。故选B项。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Similarly, too many choices, such as when looking through streaming platforms or online stores, can leave individuals feeling confused, leading them to abandon the process entirely or settle for a less satisfying option. (同样,太多的选择,比如在浏览流媒体平台或网上商店时,会让个人感到困惑,导致他们完全放弃这个过程或选择一个不太满意的选项)”可知,作者提到网上购物时太多的选择会让人困惑。由此可推知,作者建议网上购物的读者限制选择的数量,以避免决策疲劳。故选C项。
35.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Prioritizing important decisions earlier in the day or setting up routines to minimize unnecessary choices are strategies to preserve mental energy. (在一天中较早地优先处理重要决策或制定常规以最小化不必要的选择,是保存精神能量的策略)”可知,制定常规的目的是为了保存精神能量,从而提高决策质量。故选B项。

【答案】36. D 37. G 38. A 39. B 40. C
36.上文“The Internet is a powerful tool that can be used to connect like-minded people and communities.(互联网是一个强大的工具,可以用来连接志同道合的人和社区)”陈述互联网的好处,后文“Research suggests that up to 7 in 10 young people have experienced online abuse at some point.(研究表明,多达7/10的年轻人在某个时候曾经历过网络虐待)”陈述了网络虐待,由此可知空处应填一个过渡句,从好处过度到网络虐待,所以D项“Meanwhile it is also often used as a platform to hurt and abuse people.(同时,它也经常被用作一个平台来伤害和虐待人)”符合文意,其中abuse为同词复现。故选D项。
37.根据后文“Actually, with communication technology being significant in modern living, some young people have very little opportunity to escape the abuse.(事实上,随着通信技术在现代生活中的重要性,一些年轻人几乎没有机会逃避虐待)”可知,随着通信技术在现代生活中起着越来越重要的作用,一些年轻人几乎没有机会逃避虐待。由此推知,上文应是和现代生活相对的情况,所以G项“Traditionally, bullying often existed in the educational environment, with the home being a safe shelter.(传统上,霸凌通常存在于教育环境中,家庭是一个安全的庇护所)”符合文意。故选G项。
38.根据后文“For example, there are no geographical limits to membership or communication; it is now possible for someone to receive abuse beyond their own offline community.(例如,成员资格或交流没有地域限制;现在有可能有人在自己的离线社区之外受到虐待。)” 故选A项。
39.根据前文“Not all cyberbullying is brought about by people who know the recipient and it is often sent anonymously.(并非所有的网络欺凌都是由认识收件人的人造成的,而且通常是匿名发送的)”可知网络欺凌通常是匿名发送的,所以很难确定来源,所以B项“That makes it harder to confirm where the abuse comes from.(这使得确认虐待的来源变得更加困难)”符合文意。故选B项。
40.根据前文“A world that is truly fair and equal requires a culture of respect and mutual understanding. An interconnected world requires communication standards to which all observe.(一个真正公平和平等的世界需要尊重和相互理解的文化。互联世界需要所有人都遵守的通信标准)”可知,真正公平的互联的世界需要所有人都遵守的通信标准,所以C项“With that goal in mind, we still have a long journey ahead of us.(即使有了这个目标,我们还有很长的路要走)”符合文意,选项中的the goal指代上文的“An interconnected world requires communication standards to which all observe.”。

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Before arriving, I expected crowded cities in food that would be too strange for my taste. However, from the moment I landed in shanghai, I was surprised by how modern and clean everything was. The high speed trains were incredibly efficient, making travel between cities effortless. In beijing, I explored the forbidden city and was amazed by its rich history spending hundreds of years. But what impressed me most was something really unexpected. One afternoon, I got lost in a small neighbourhood, and a stranger noticed my confusion. Despite the language barrier, SHE used a translation APP to guide me back to my hotel. That small act of kindness meant so much. I also discovered a love for chinese food, not just famous dishes, but everyday street food, that was both delicious and affordable. By the end of my six day journey, I realized china is a viBrant, modern nation filled with friendly people. That one hundred forty four.
