Design Idea
Based on the theme and objectives, this class are divided into two parts: listening and speaking. The listening part is the basis of the speaking part, and students can express their views smoothly and fluently only when they are clear about what they heard.
Due to that, three activities are designed to help students to make out the listening part, and teacher in the process will guide students to pay attention to the key information. Then another three activities follow to encourage students to express their views on the good qualities of Chinese astronauts and what they have to do to realize their space dreams.
In the last part of the class, students will be required to read a sentence prepared by the teacher to make them more confident about their dreams and plans.
Ⅰ.Analysis of the Teaching Materials
This lesson is the period 1 of Unit 4. The theme of the activity is " Talk about how to become an astronaut”. In this period, words related to space exploration will be showed, like astronaut, flight, fighter pilot. Apart from learning these words and expressions, students are expected to realize one thing----the path to achieve your dream is not a straight one; you have to spare no effort to realize your dream.
Ⅱ. Analysis of the Students
This lesson is intended for senior two students ,who have a certain number of vocabularies in this stage. And they can orally express their opinions on some topics. What is difficult for these students is that topic on Space Exploration is not a daily topic, so many students are not familiar with the words and expressions about it, not mention to share their views on it fluently. Therefore, in this class, I must arouse students’ interest first and guide them to explore space through these activities.
