Plot
At the Zootenial Gala, a poisonous snake named Gary De’Snake kidnaps family leader Milton Lynxley to access an old journal. Framed as partners in crime, Judy and Nick become runaways. They helped Gary recover the journal, revealing his great-grandmother Agnes as Zootopia’s true founder, wronged by the Lynxley family. In November 2025, as a publicity stunt, three remote-controlled cars with animatronic puppets of the film’s characters appeared in Los Angeles. It is often said that the high school period is one of the most important stages that an individual will experience, and is often seen as a critical and life-shaping time. During this period, people often begin to discover what is meaningful to them and how they plan to continue living their lives. Volunteering at St. Clare’s Hospital has helped me form a positive experience during my high school years.
When I first began volunteering, I was very nervous about meeting new people and being pushed outside of my comfort zone. At the beginning of my volunteering experience, I was rather timid and not very outgoing. Fortunately, as time went by, I discovered how to introduce myself to new volunteers, to go out of my way to make patients feel welcome, and to extend the hand of friendship to others. I learned to respect diversity, which turned out to be particularly helpful in the real world.
My volunteering experience at the hospital has led me to believe that my love and sympathy for the disabled can brighten up the day of those lonely patients. There is another valuable lesson I have learned from the volunteer program: The significance of “service” involves making a difference in the lives of others and contributing to the harmony of the community. Now I feel content each time I finish my shift. This positive feeling has motivated me to continue carrying on this worthwhile cause, and has become something that I view as having irreplaceable importance to my life.
It’s a great pity that many teenagers in my generation have not had experiences similar to mine and therefore missed out on some of the important lessons that can be learned in life. Knowing that I made a positive impact on someone is an emotionally uplifting experience that can never be matched by money or fame. And, to the best of my ability, I will follow this path of service throughout my life.

A. The importance of diversity in the world.
B. The author’s changes brought about by volunteering
C. Friendship between volunteers and patients.
D. Ways to help and respect patients.
6. What does the underlined word “timid” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Confident. B. Shy. C. Brave. D. Calm.
7. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To call on the young to volunteer.
B. To share the author’s volunteering experience.
C. To explain the benefits of volunteering.
D. To introduce suitable community work.
C
Last year, the world lost more forests than ever before, with fires being the biggest cause. Land clearing for farming and other human activities also played major roles. The results are very worrying for the planet, which relies on forests to help fight climate change.
Researchers from the University of Maryland and the World Resources Institute (WRI) reported that the world lost about 25,870 square miles of primary rainforest last year. That’s almost double the amount that was lost in 2023. It wasn’t just rainforest that disappeared more rapidly last year. Due to strong wildfire seasons in Canada and Russia, the total tree cover loss increased by 5% over 2023. In all, the world lost 115,830 square miles of forests last year. That’s an area roughly the size of Italy.
WRI estimates that the world is losing forests at a rate of about 18 soccer fields every minute. In 2021, the leaders of more than 120 countries signed an agreement to stop forest loss and increase forest area by 2030. Sadly, that is not happening. 17 of the 20 countries with the most primary forests are losing more forests now than when they signed the agreement.
Brazil, with the most tropical (热带的) rainforest, suffered the greatest loss, accounting for 42% of the world’s primary forest loss. Brazil has been suffering from its worst drought ever. These dry conditions meant that fires caused 66% of its forest loss. Bolivia saw a 2.5 times increase in forest loss in 2024 compared to 2023, largely due to uncontrolled fires started for land clearing.
However, not all the news is bad. Indonesia reduced its primary forest loss by 11%, partly due to government efforts to prevent fires. Malaysia also saw a 13% drop in forest loss. To meet the goal of ending forest loss by 2030, the world needs to lower its forest loss by 20% every year. Rod Taylor, who works for WRI, says, “It’s time for governments, businesses and individuals to act now, or stopping the loss of forests will be more difficult.”
8. How does the author present the viewpoint in paragraph 2?
A. By offering expert opinions. B. By using vivid descriptions.
C. By sharing personal experiences. D. By providing statistical data.
9. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The signing of the agreement. B. The goal of the agreement.
C. The rate of forest growth. D. The land clearing for farming.
10. What can we learn about Brazil and Bolivia from the text?
A. They are facing severe environmental challenges.
B. Their forest loss is mainly due to human activities.
C. Their forest loss is causing big economic problems.
D. They have successfully controlled their forest loss.
11. What does the author want to say by mentioning Rod Taylor?
A. Ultimate goal is within reach. B. Action is needed without delay.
C. Governments need to do more. D. Joint efforts can solve the problem.
D
Obesity and diabetes (糖尿病) are affecting more young people, with many sharing their experiences of being diagnosed with diabetes at a young age on social media. The hashtag “diabetes affecting young people” has been viewed over 46 million times on Sina Weibo.
Dr. Guo Xiaohui, a senior endocrinologist, said that 20 years ago, none of her diabetic patients were under 30, but now about 20% are. Dr. Yao Qiyuan from a hospital’s obesity department noted there are diabetes patients in middle or even primary school, some of whom are obese and have high blood pressure. It’s surprising that a 12-year-old child can have blood sugar at 20 mmol/L and blood pressure at 200 mmHg.
It’s known that obesity is a major cause of diabetes and heart diseases. A 2020 report showed about 10% of children under 6 and 20% of those aged 6-17 are obese. Dr. Xie Zhuangli explained that young people with chronic diseases like diabetes face a higher risk of complications. For example, diabetes complications (并发症) usually appear 5-10 years after diagnosis, so young patients have more time to develop them, which can affect multiple organs, cause kidney problems, blindness, or even amputation, bringing serious impacts on their lives and families.
Experts say the rise in young diabetics is due to oily and sugary diets, unhealthy daily routines, and lack of knowledge about chronic diseases. Many young people think such diseases only affect the elderly and seek treatment only after severe complications occur. Dr. Yao suggested enhancing health education for teenagers, monitoring their diets, and ensuring enough time for sports.
12. What does the data from Dr. Guo Xiaohui show?
A. There were no diabetic patients 20 years ago.
B. The number of young diabetic patients has increased.
C. Most diabetic patients are now under 30.
D. 20% of people under 30 have diabetes.
13. Why do young people with diabetes have a higher risk of complications?
A. They have more serious symptoms at the beginning.
B. Complications appear earlier in young people.
C. They have a longer time to develop complications after diagnosis.
D. They don’t take medicine on time.
14. Which is NOT a reason for the young diabetics mentioned in the passage?
A. Unhealthy eating habits. B. Lack of exercise.
C. Unhealthy daily schedules. D. Lack of knowledge about chronic diseases.
15. What is Dr. Yao’s suggestion to solve the problem?
A. Controlling the production of sugary drinks.
B. Encouraging young people to drink more water.
C. Providing more health education for teenagers.
D. Making laws to limit young people’s use of social media.

After an exhausting day, Jack wandered in the street, smiling while thinking of his students. Jack was a considerate and respectable teacher and his students took good care of him, too.
Suddenly, a familiar figure flashed into Jack’s eyes. It was Mark, his junior high school teacher. With a thrill. Jack dashed forward, greeted him enthusiastically, and said, “Mark, how are you?” Taking off his presbyopic glasses, Mark studied the passionate young man in front of him, hesitated for a moment and got confused, “Sorry? Have we met before?"
Not disappointed at all, Jack introduced himself in delight, “Sorry, Mark. I'm Jack Smith, from Class 2, Grade 8, graduating from Kevin Junior High School in 2001. Now I’m a teacher.” Hearing the words, Mark was puzzled but also delighted, asking a series of questions. “Why can’t I remember you? Are you a teacher now?” In spite of poor eyesight, Mark did have such a brilliant memory that he could even remember almost all his students.
“Well, in fact, you were in charge of our class for only one day, and something happened that day. I became a teacher because of your inspiration.”
Old Mark, curious, kept raising questions such as when they met and how he had inspired him to be a teacher.
“One day, a friend of mine came in with a nice new watch. I was so crazy about it that I decided to take it and I did. After a short while, my friend found it had disappeared and immediately reported it to the teacher, you, who happened to be in charge of our class that day because our teacher was ill.”
A mixture of emotions floated into Jack’s eyes when he recalled the shameful history. That day, Mark came and told the whole class that someone in the class could not find his watch and required that whoever took it return it quickly. Jack was too frightened to hand it in.
Then, Mark closed the door and told all the students to get up. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

【答案】12. B 13. C 14. B 15. C

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
But Mark kept searching other students’ pockets. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Then, Mark closed the door and told all the students to get up. He asked the students to face the wall and cover their eyes with handkerchiefs. Then he searched the students’ pockets one by one. When Mark found the watch from Jack’s pocket, Jack was afraid and ashamed, with no place to hide himself. He thought that he would be condemned and punished by Mark, despised by his classmates and branded with a bad mark that would never be erased in his life.
But Mark kept searching everyone’s pockets. Until he finished searching all the students’ pockets, Jack realized it was not what he thought. Mark returned the watch that was found in Jack’s pocket to the owner and then told the students to sit back and continue with his class. Until Jack left school after graduation, the theft of the watch was never mentioned or passed on. It was not only compassion and wisdom, but also a kind of selfless help. Jack would never forget and would be grateful for it.
