2025:A Record Year for Global Wind Power
2025 marked a turning point for the global wind power field.According to the World Wind
Energy Association (WWEA),the world added a record 169,014 Megawatts (MW)of new
wind capacity-a 35%increase over 2024.This represents the highest growth rate in recent
years.Today, wind power generates enough electricity to meet over 11%of global demand,
even going beyond nuclear energy for the first time.
This record-breaking expansion was mostly driven by China. In 2025 alone,China
accounted for 77%of global additions. The following chart illustrates the current distribution of
the world's total wind power capacity among major players:

However,outside China,growth remained uneven.While countries like India,Vietnam,
and Chile showed rapid pace of development, many other traditional markets fell short of
expectations.Experts suggest that for the world to meet more ambitious climate targets,
countries outside China must significantly speed up their efforts.
The WWEA's long-term vision is to reach 10,000 GW of wind power by 2050,which
would supply 40%of global electricity demand. To reach this goal, the world must double or
triple its annual installations(装机量).A significant percentage of this growth could come

from"repowering"-the process of replacing aging wind machines with newer, more powerful
ones. However, this will require goverments to establish appropriate frameworks and provide
financial support.
To secure a wind energy future,we need policy reforms to boost investment, enhanced
interational cooperation for a sound supply chain, and targeted education and training to
cultivate skilled workers.

As graduation approaches,I am forced to face the fact that I am getting older. In
particular,I'm now older than my dad's students. My dad is a professor, and I grew up on the
campus where I now study.
The first realization hit me just before I started college.I was helping my dad clean his
small office, which he had occupied longer than I'd been alive. The walls showed childhood
drawings that my sister and I had made.Even though I was looking at my past,I realized I
would soon be starting a new chapter of my future."It's strange,"I thought."Im about to be
the same age as my dad's incoming first-year students."
The next time I reflected on my age was during a summer archaeology (project in
Bermuda,my dad's yearly field school.Walking back to camp one night,I realized that,as a
senior student,I was older than most of the others on the project. This was especially odd
because the last time I visited Bermuda,I was only ten.Back then,I was just a child playing
on the shore, taking students'attention away from their studies.I realized that the student who
used to watch me play was probably younger then than I.
Being a "campus brat"-a child of a teaching staff-has its ups and downs.I enjoyed
the free food at university receptions, but there were downsides too.For example, the piano
lessons I took as a kid showed up on my official college transcript(成绩单).Idon''t think
future employers need to know I got a B+in piano in 2009!
Now,as I prepare to graduate,I've reached another milestone.I am already older than
most undergraduates, and I recently realized I'm even older than some incoming graduate
students. While these observations might seem small, they are part of my unique experience.
Graduation means leaving this familiar world behind, but these memories will stay with me.
4.What can be inferred from paragraph 2?
A.A new life stage was beginning.
B.Her father was unwilling to leave office.
C.The author was anxious about college life.

D.She was the youngest on the project.
6.Why does the author mention the piano lessons?
A.To prove her musical talent.
B.To illustrate her downsides.
C.To show her academic excellence.
D.To explain her college transcript.
7.What is the best title for the text?
A.My Father's Academic Life

Earth's magnetic (field is a major defense against space radiation.Galactic cosmic
(rays, which travel through the universe with incredible power and speed, are a
source of radiation. Thanks to Earth's strong magnetic field, these particles (are usually
blocked,protecting our planet.However,new data from China's Chang'e 4 lunar lander shows
that this field is even stronger than we thought, stretching even beyond the moon.
In a recent study,researchers described a "cavity (something like a hole)"in space
between Earth and the moon..In this area, cosmic rays are deflected(使偏转)by Earth's
magnetism. This suggests that the effects of our planet's magnetic field reach much farther than
anyone expected.Launched in 2018,Chang'e 4 was the first spacecraft to land on the far side of
the moon.Scientists had long assumed the moon lay beyond Earth's protection, but 2019 data
suggested the moon was somewhat protected.
The finding came as "a surprise",according to Robert Wimmer-Schweingruber,a co-
author of the study. He thought it was an error in the data until further testing was conducted.
As he explains, cosmic rays come from stars and black holes with different energy levels. The
highest-energy particles move quickly through the solar system, while some of the weaker
particles linger-and their radiation could affect the skin of astronauts.
Knowing more about radiation between the moon and Earth could help scientists plan safer
missions.Protecting astronauts from radiation is essential for long-term space exploration. For
example,if humans land on the moon in the future, astronauts could schedule activities outside
their shelters while the moon is within the influence of Earth's magnetic field.
"It is a brilliant research, and it just shows us that the more we study phenomena outside
of our planet, the more we discover we don't know,"says Philip Metzger,a professor of space
technology."That's why we need to do space missions."
8.What does the new finding reveal about Earth's magnetic field?
A.It blocks no rays.
B.It's more powerful.
C.It fails to protect the moon.
D.It stays inside the Earth.
9.What does the underlined word "linger"in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Become weaker.
B.Disappear soon.
C.Stay longer.
D.Move quickly.
10.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.The future of space missions.
B.The limitation of magnetic field.
C.The influence of space radiation.
D.The significance of the finding.

11.What does Philip Metzger imply in his statement?
A.Space research matters.
B.We know all space facts.

Childhood obesity has become a serious publie health problem across the US.Official data
indicates that one in five American children and teens met the standard for obesity in 2024.For
decades, people have fought this problem mainly by promoting healthy diets and regular
exercise. However, researchers at Yale now suggest that another important factor should be
added to that list:reducing stress in parents.
Led by psychologist Rajita Sinha, the researeh proves that parental stress can be a big
contributor to the development of childhood obesity. As Sinha puts it,stress relief serves as
“the third leg of the stool(三角凳)”in preventing childhood obesity.Past studies have found
that stressed parents are more likely to depend on fast food and break regular family routines,
which will negatively affect children's eating habits.Regrettably, most current prevention
programs ignore parental stress,so they fail to bring long-lasting effects.
The researchers carried out a 12-week test with 114 parents whose overweight children were
aged 2 to 5.Participants were divided into two groups. The PMH (Parent Mental Health)group
leamed stress-relief skills together with diet and exercise guidance, while the control group only
received advice on nutrition and sports. The researchers kept track of parents'stress levels,
parenting behaviors and children's weight throughout the test and three months afterwards.
The results were surprising.Parents in the PMH group felt less stressed and behaved more
positively.Their children ate fewer unhealthy foods and gained little extra weight later.By
contrast,no obvious improvements appeared in the control group, and their kids were far more
likely to fall into the obesity risk group.
This research is part of Yale Stress Center's ongoing work.It offers a new approach to
handling childhood obesity. The team plans to conduct longer-term studies on the PMH program
with more families, hoping to gain deeper insights into fighting childhood obesity and related
long-term illnesses.
12.What do Yale researchers advise people to do?
A.Collect more official health data.
B.Pay more attention to kids'daily exercise.
C.Help parents relieve their stress.
D.Change children's eating habits gradually.
13.What is Sinha's attitude towards current obesity prevention programs?
A.Doubtful.
B.Confused.
C.Uninterested.
D.Supportive.
14.What change happened to kids in the PMH group?
A.They ate even more junk food.
B.They gain extra weight easily.
C.They became busy doing sports.
D.They almost put on no weight.
15.What will the team do next?
A.End the PMH program.
B.Run longer studies.
C.Cure long-term illnesses.
D.Stop researching obesity

with the plant name and planting date.Keep the soil wet-but not flooded-and place the
trays in a warm spot.Check on your seedlings daily and water them when the surface feels dry.
After the final frost has passed, gradually move your young plants outdoors. This process,
known as "hardening off",involves bringing the seedlings outside for a few hours each day.
19 Once they have adjusted, transplant (them on a mild day and water thoroughly.
Adding cover around each plant can prevent the soil from losing water too quickly.
Growing even a modest amount of your own food is deeply satisfying.20
)It also
develops patience and responsibility.Start small, and do not let mistakes discourage you.Every
failure provides a valuable opportunity to leam.
A.Next comes how to start seeds indoors.
B.Gardening connects you to nature in a beautiful way.
C.It helps them get used to the weather and reduces stress.
D.Testing your soil before planting is always a smart move.
E.Harvest your crops when their moisture content is highest.
F.It connects us to the land and helps us value our food more.

Maya had always dreamed of becoming a writer.Maya always had her head buried in a
worn-out notebook, while her classmates were busy watching short videos or struggling with math
problems. She would spend countless hours creating stories and poems in her notebook, lost in
the world of her imagination.
However, reality often hit harder than any fictional plot Maya had ever written.Maya's
parents believed that a career in writing was uncertain and urged her to pursue a more stable
profession."Writing is a lovely hobby,Maya,"her father would say."But a hobby won't pay
the bills."Her mother would nod along. These conversations always ended the same way:with
Maya escaping to her room, tomn between respecting her parents who had done so much for her
and the quiet, stubborn voice inside her that refused to be silenced.
When college application season arrived, the battle within her reached its breaking point.
Maya would lie awake at night, staring at the ceiling, replaying her parents'words over and
over. What if they're right? She'd think. What if I chase this dream and end up with nothing?
She imagined herself years down the line, struggling to make ends meet, disappointing the two
people who had given her everything. She ended up in business school. To her parents,it was
a moment of relief. To Maya,it was like shutting a door on a room that held all the best parts of
herself.
College was a strange, heavy season of her life. Her schedule was packed with math-heavy
courses she had zero interest in,and while everyone around her seemed to be mapping out their
careers,Maya was still writing poems in the empty spots of her accounting notebook. One day,
while surfing the Internet,Maya noticed a writing competition. The prize was a chance to attend
a dream writing workshop with renowned authors. The opportunity lit a spark within her,and
she couldn't ignore the call of her true passion.
