From these books, Tom has learned that people everywhere have their own special traditions, foods, and games. Sometimes it was hard to find time to read between his homework and spending time with friends. But he made it a habit to read for 20 minutes before going to bed. Tom now finds that reading is a great way to relax and calm his mind after a long, busy day at school. Now, Tom wants to read even more books. His new goal is to read 30 books by the end of the year! I got up and looked out of the window of our hotel. I listened to the thunder and watched the lightning. It wasn’t scary at that time, but it was exciting!
But then I looked at my phone and saw on the news that a hurricane (飓风) was coming. I asked my dad what a hurricane is and asked him if he knew what to do. He told me not to worry because a hurricane is just a big storm. We stayed in our hotel room and there was even more rain by the afternoon. And the winds were getting stronger and stronger.
In the evening, a hotel worker asked all the visitors to go to the dining hall. When we were all inside, we put tables in front of the doors and then we got down on the floor together in the corner. We waited and waited. The winds got louder, the rain became heavier and then it suddenly went dark. I was so startled that I held my dad’s hand. I was too scared to say a word. World Book and Copyright Day (世界图书与版权日) is on 23rd April every year. On this day, we are encouraged to read more books. Reading is like opening a window to different worlds. Around 130 million books have come out in human history. A reader will read at most 6,000 books in his or her life. Most of them won’t be so much fun or very unforgettable. Books are like people. We meet many but only a few touch our hearts.
Perhaps we will only remember about 30 books. They will be different for each of us, but they affect us in similar ways.
________. When we see a bird flying in the sky, we have a beautiful feeling. But we may find it hard for us to use words to show our feeling and finally we just say, “That’s so nice.” However, a good writer can describe it wonderfully. He or she may show us the angle of the wing, the slow movement of the largest branch of a tree and the angle of the mouth in a smile.
Great writers build bridges for us in order to communicate with each other. They describe our similar experiences, and show us what we can share with each other and how we can help each other.
They also help us to feel. By reading a book, we meet someone. Perhaps she is very beautiful, young, smart but dying, and we feel sad about her pain and the unfairness of the world. Or perhaps she is poor, weak but hard-working, and we find the courage to face the difficulties in life through her story.
47. What can we know from Paragraph 1?
A. About 130 million books have come out in human history.
B. A reader will buy 6,000 books in his or her life.
C. All the books in the world can touch people’s hearts.
48. What can we put into the ________ in Paragraph 3?
A. Books make us become famous writers.
B. Books make us show our feelings better.
C. Books make us become smarter than others.
49. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The bird. B. The feeling. C. The sky.
50. What is the structure (结构) of the passage?
A. B. C.
51. What is the writing purpose of this passage?
A. Reading can affect and change our lives.
B. Reading can make people great and rich.
C. Reading can change people’s feelings.
【答案】47. A 48. B 49. B 50. B 51. A
【解析】
【导语】本文以世界图书与版权日引入阅读,阐述书籍会对人产生深刻影响,并从三个角度说明阅读、优秀文字作品对人的作用。
【47题详解】
根据第一段“Around 130 million books have come out in human history.”可知,人类历史上已经出版了大约1.3亿本书,A 选项表述正确;原文是一生最多读6000 本书而非购买,多数书籍无法触动人心,B、C均错误。
【48题详解】
根据第三段“When we see a bird flying in the sky, we have a beautiful feeling. But we may find it hard for us to use words to show our feeling ...However, a good writer can describe it wonderfully.”可知,普通人很难用语言精准表达自己的感受,而优秀的作者可以通过文字很好地描述这些感受,本段围绕书籍帮助我们更好表达感受展开,选项B“Books make us show our feelings better.”符合段意。
【49题详解】
根据第三段“When we see a bird flying in the sky, we have a beautiful feeling...However, a good writer can describe it wonderfully.”,划线词it指代前文提到的:人们看到飞鸟飞行产生的美好感受。
【50题详解】
根据全文内容,第1段引出读书的话题,提出只有少数书籍能触动我们的内心;第2段总述“Perhaps we will only remember about 30 books. They will be different for each of us, but they affect us in similar ways”,点出本文核心:这些书籍会以相似的方式影响我们;第3、4、5段分别从不同角度阐述书籍对我们的影响。因此文章结构为第1、2段为总说部分,第3、4、5段为分说部分,对应B图中所示结构。
【51题详解】
根据原文第二段“They will be different for each of us, but they affect us in similar ways.”,结合后文从帮助表达感受、搭建沟通桥梁、赋予我们面对困难的勇气多个角度的论述可知,本文的写作目的是告诉读者阅读能够影响和改变我们的生活。B项文中无“make people great and rich”相关表述,C项概括局部段落,不能代表全文主旨,故选A。
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)
根据短文内容, 从选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项, 其中有一项为多余选项。

Symbols of Chinese Culture

Chinese dragons are so popular in China that you can see them in many places, such as buildings, money, clothes, and paintings! The word for “dragon” even appears in names and idioms. In China, people think dragons are so powerful that they call themselves the descendants of the dragon(龙的传人)!
The colour red
In China, red is a powerful colour with special meaning. Many people think it brings good luck to people, so you will see red decorations such as paper cuttings, couplets, and lanterns during festivals like the Chinese New Year. People think red is so lucky that they wear it during celebrations. At traditional Chinese weddings, both the bride and groom wear red. In many other countries, however, red is not the colour of good luck but danger! People use red to show when a place or thing is dangerous.
Lucky numbers
Certain numbers are lucky in China because they sound like other Chinese words with positive meanings. For example, “Six” means things going well. The number “two” is also lucky, because the Chinese believe that good things come in pairs. “Eight” sounds like a word which means “to make a lot of money”. Lastly, “nine” has the same pronunciation as the Chinese character “久”. So “nine” has the meaning of a long life. On the other hand,”four” sounds like “death”. Some people find this number so unlucky that they avoid using it in their phone numbers. But China is not the only place with special numbers. In America, for example, “seven” is a lucky number while “thirteen” is an unlucky number.

We enjoyed the fresh air and would live in the hotel room for another two days. However, I thought it’s one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life! A storm woke me up early.

Symbols of Chinese Culture
Chinese culture is one of the oldest in the world, and it is rich in traditions and beliefs. Many of the things you see, hear, or even taste in China may be symbols with special meanings!
Dragons
In many Western stories, dragons are frightening monsters. However, people in China are not frightened of them! Instead, they think dragons are a symbol of power and good fortune. Chinese dragons are so popular in China that you can see them in many places, such as buildings, money, clothes, and paintings! The word for “dragon” even appears in names and idioms. For example, “to hope that one’s children become dragons” means that parents hope their children will do well in life.
